  1. I was going to get on here and put in my two cents about all of the Rebels problems, then I read this post and thought, It's pretty easy to point fingers and make excuses when times are tough. Just give the kids and the coaches a chance. Yea, things looks pretty bad right now, but dang we've only played two games. Let's see how this thing plays out.

  2. I think it is very important to remember that these are 16-17 year old young men that you are talking about. I know they have made mistakes and believe me THEY know it too. As a parent I have the utmost respect for each of the players and coaches. The number of hours they put into playing football is unbelievable and until I was a football parent I had NO idea.

The coaches at South are wonderful roll models for the players. I was fortunate enough to listen to Coach Haynie talk about "faith, family and football" in that order. I for one consider us to be lucky to have a good leader.

I know that this weekend these boys have watched and rewatched the game film, and hopefully are seeing what they can do to correct their mistakes. If you think about last year most of players on the field were SR and they are not there anymore. This is the first time playing for some of them.

So before you start calling names and numbers please consider what this does to them.

I for one say GO REBELS!!! I will be in the stands each Friday night pulling for my team and feel lucky to have that oppurtunity...

  3. UPDATE..........

Beedle commited today to Tennessee Tech. Full Ride. He had full offers from Austin Peay and UT Chattanooga as well.

    Ghetto,

I miss high school football! /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> When will the '09 season be here! As of right now, I am wallowing in this downtime. The '08 Rebs will soooo be missed. I miss especially miss seeing the Spin Doctor juke and then run over somebody. I've seen the top RB's in our area since the early 80's, played against "Little Man", Rocky Clay, Gary Dandridge, and Mike Faulkerson. But Taylor Fletcher has been 10X the joy to watch. If you love football, you love seeing him with the rock. Some college is going to get a STEAL!

What's the latest on this year's seniors? Beedle decided? KK, Bradley, and Fletcher getting closer? I'm so outta da loop, I havent heard anything. I hope as the recruiting period draws to an end, they will all find happy 4-year homes. There's other young men that could play at the next level as well, like "I'll run through you like a paper towel" Chuck Columbo. Things will heat up and hopefully doors will open as we get into February. No matter what pans out, the Senior parents and the Reb Coaches have guided them towards a successful life. Good boys.

Next years Rebels are indeed hard at it in the offseason. Better be, the schedule is killer. Logue has emerged as a force and should be on the college coaches' watch list. Garvin has always been D1. Hammonds stepped in for Beedle and also stepped up. Solt has impressed me. Ethan long will step in nicely. #10 will be healthy and back to true form. #2 working his tail off and has a real FOCUS (I wish I had a mama that would help me like that...say 60 lbs to drop or so). #1 has put on about 10lbs of muscle so far and I swear I think he's picked up speed. He's been working with the linemen some to use comparable weights. I miss seeing him on the roundball court, but football and track are his passion. Track season will hopefully be a bit of an appetizer before football 2009 hits. Coach Hilton is certainly my hero for stepping in with T&F program. Ghetto, come find us at the meets. Hope JC doesn't depart, right as he is about to step up to the plate. You don't wanna miss your opportunity in the spotlight!

BTW, what's the sidekick rumor you refer to?

    Rebel Nation

  4. it will be a good ballgame and the Rebels will have to be at their best to beat the devils. Open receivers are going to have to do a better job than they did against ME. South also has more than one good running back and if the devils start keying on fletcher no. 2 will wear them out.

Nailed it. The Rebs receiving corps gets spoiled running wild in the MLC all season, but struggles to get open in the playoffs. This appears to be holding true again this year. The thunder (2) and lightning (15) looked really good against the Canes, I was really surprised we didn't stay with it. We only had 65 yards passing, but probably dropped more balls than we did all year combined. Ellis was a pleasant surprise, who I hope to see more of this week.

  5. One of my sons is a starter(jr.) #40 LB Matt Helton. My other is #58 Luke Helton(so.) DE.

My observation of the game is bitter. Both teams made mistakes but I can not help but feel that we could have and maybe should have won that game. 4th and 1 with JUMBO in and we sweep with our larger starting qb out and Howell in at qb? We ran that earlier in the game and I think we telegraphed that one. Give it to the big boys and let them falll forward for a yard and then worry about a TD to win. Get the yard first!!!!!!!

When we blitzed on passing downs, we pressured him but we did not do it enough. I knew when we had the bad snap saftey that we had lost the game. Sad to say but based on me following this team, I knew it in my soul that we had blanked it away. We lost the part of the game played between the ears. Not every member of our team or coaching staff, just a few and that few was enough to equal a loss.

I agree with you on this 72. Stopping the Canes on 4 and 1, and the safety were the two biggest plays of the game. It was like the air was knocked of yall. I do believe this was one of most physical games the Rebs had played all year. Your Canes are to be commended for bringing it to the Rebs. The way I see it, if everything stays together for them, theres a category 5 Hurricane brewing in Hamblen County for '09.

  6. Seriously, if you all take posts from coacht and use them as bulletin board material then that is truly sad. Is there nothing else to do in Morristown (other than listen to the latino music station)? It's not like one of south's players is telling the newspaper how we are going to thump you. Beginning to think you all are crazy down there. I don't even know who KR is. Is he/she a South fan? Give us some background, please.

That's funny right there, I don't care who you are.

  7. Comp, realize you're talking to Mr. Carr himself. You're fast, son, with good instincts...too good to be on here tooting your own horn. That job belongs to us fans. Good luck in your preparation.

And since this is a South thread, I have to admit that you've got me very curious as to what 'running' oriented offense you have seen signs of, Comp. Great teams adjust to the strengths of their personel. Great programs train their players to fit their system. Are we on the verge of seeing a comprimise from the Rebels?

You stole my thunder....With all this talk about being a running team, has anyone been to a game in the last 3 years? The Rebs kind a like to throw it around....have you notice?

  8. In some ways the 2004 team was better than this years team. I think some area's this years team is better at is Receivers and defensive backs. As great as Cade Thompson was I think Brent Burnett is even better.Burnett has a much stronger arm. Another thing the 2004 team didn't have that this team has is Aaron Douglas.

If Maryville gets about 125yds rushing a game their offense will be unstoppable. Their passing game is the best in the state. I mentioned earlier in this thread about Aaron Douglas,Steven Shiver,Tyler Clendenen and Caleb Clement. One kid I forgot to mention was Chris Jordan. Jordan has the best set of hands on the team. Jordan is about 5'10 160lbs but has 4.65 speed and is quick as a cat. I wouldn't trade Maryville's receivers for anyone elses.

Tim Rodrigues and Thomas Shuler have stepped up. Tim is around 6'1 190lbs. He runs hard and he is tough. Thomas Shuler is around 5'9 175lbs and runs a 4.5 He is the fastest kid on the team.

Maryville's offensive line is small but quick and athletic. They average 210lbs a man. They are well coached and disciplined. David Ellis does a masterful job with them.

Maryville's defensive line is very good. Justin Smith is a stellar defensive end. He is 6' 250lbs and can run well. Todd Hollingsworth is 6'1 245lbs and runs under a 4.7 He is quick as a cat. I haven't seen anyone be able to block him. Josh Cantwell is 5'10 235lbs and he is a tough guy. Cantwell is a lunch bucket type of guy. Brett Wadham and Zack Mobius split time at the other end spot. Wadham is 6'210 pounds. He is a rock. Mobius is around 190 lbs but he is very quick. Brad Heath has played a lot at DT lately. He is 6'220 lbs.

Secondary is awesome. Clement,Shiver,Clendenen,Jordan usually start. Because Jordan and Clement had some injuries other kids have stepped up. Tyler Martin,Jamal Brazen and Will Lairmore have stepped up.

Linebacker was a concern before the season started. All those guys except Jordan Halsne weigh less than 200 lbs. But! All of them except Halsne can run a 4.7 or better. Cody McCoy runs a 4.5 They are small but tough as nails.

Sullivan South will definately he a much harder challenge than TN High was in 2004. TN High got shell shocked and never recovered. TN High didn't have anyone like Phillips either. Watching highlights of Phillips he reminds me a lot of Tim Tebow.

RR, nice breakdown. Someone mentioned today that Shiver and Douglas were banged up from last friday. What's their status?

  9. I have seen COCKE COUNTY a few times over the past 3 or 4 years. They have really big kids and decent speed. Why cant they win ??? It can't all be about the HEAD COACH. How is the administration, the students, and the community ? What will it take to win in NEWPORT ????

    That's an easy one....attitude.

  10. Blazer...I'm not one to normally jump into this sort of argument. And yes, the IMAC was overall superior this year and I normally hate it when somebody uses this as an excuse BUT how many teams in the IMAC will move up in classification? At least half the conference and maybe 75%. Meanwhile, half the MLC is a 3A conference waiting to happen. I think that says alot for teams like Johnson County. It also says why the rest of the state feels the NET sector is weak. It is also crucial to why teams like the Vikings, the Trailblazers, the Huricanes, the Trojans, the Greendevils, and the Rebels must power their way through to the finals. We will never get respect until we do. I don't care which one of us does it but the rest must support the effort and get behind the one who is going. We need everybody behind us right now. We need you to voice your support. I know you are with us but admonish others to say so. We are NET.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Johnson County would be the smallest 3A team in the State if they were actually in 3A.

  11. So...Who is the best players in this conference?!? /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

LB from M-East #36 is very good. Barner-G'ville, Masters-Boone, Cradic-Vol, LB from Vol. is very good too.

  12. Or the fact that next year they will have a redshirt junior QB, a redshirt soph, and a redshirt freshman at the position under scholarship and nearly all of UT's recruiting focus this year is on linemen. And the redshirt-freshman is a kid from TN that the coaching staff seems really excited about.

Funny though, the biggest trouble-makers in the programs recently have been the golden-boy in-state kids that everyone clamored for UT to recruit.

Good luck to Curt in Wisconsin.

Agree. There is alot of talk about the Coleman kid challenging for the job. The instate kids do seem to be the cancers, however this wouldn't have been the case with Curt. He's a classy kid, well spoken and brought up right. I only wish we would have had the opportunity to watch him in orange, instead of red.

  13. Phillips is a running QB an UT is a passing O, so he would not do much help there. He is like Tebow. If he was bigger he would do good down in FL with that kind of O

UT was going to offer him as an "athlete" , which meant a move to WR or DB. This kids a QB, Wisconsin, Duke, Stanford, MTSU, VT all knew it. If he was from Texas, California or Oregon, UT probably would have offered him.

  14. Not much meat and potatoes yet on this thread. Just a bunch of loud mouthin' and a few sermons and maybe a little bit of motivating. Greenway has another year to perfect his trade. The difference between Curt's Junior and Senior year was night and day. Greenway will be the complete package in '08. Against South he was an avid runner with no hesitation when oportunity arose. He is not blazing fast but still is a handful. He has an accurate arm with a quick and sure release. No hesitation in his passing game as well. Barner hits the hole as fast as anyone I've seen and that is his claim to fame. He can change direction on a dime and has the quickness to disappear between linemen and reappear in LB'r territory preparing to shift gears. A RB like Barner is virtually impossible to stop. He is so slippery if allowed into LB'r range he will be gone sooner or later from a percentage point of view. Therefore, to stop a RB with his skill set the D must get into the backfield on a regular basis. Ty Garvin has come a long way at LB'r since our first meeting and Barner will have a rough evening coming into contact with him. South's D MUST play as they played against Science Hill. A performance they have yet to repeat. The South D will decide the flavor of this game.

The Greenville D was purely coaching genius. Nothing special about their D other than the fact that it worked.

The kicking games will be a key factor again. The game will not be decided by the kicking game as before but it will be crucial.

The South O was hit and miss in September at the Rock and that was Coaching stubborness. Taylor Fletcher took the ball on the ground the length of the field and once in the red zone the passing game, once again failed. Look for a much more mature and complete offensive performance along with mature coaching decisions as icing on the cake. Stacy was not so much out coached the first time around as he just would not accept that the "Gun" would not work. Sometimes it's easier to give the dog a treat than to beat him with a stick. The South O will be firing on all cylinders. Fletcher is probably the most underrated RB in NET and Greenville might possibly bear witness to that fact. They must play cool for MoWest keyed on Fletcher only to allow Curt to go on a rampage. Can Greenville stop them both? That is the price of admission. Hunter Beedle is playing his best football right now so I would look for some "Spin Doctorin'". Curt, as Greenville well knows, is much faster than anything Greenville can muster against him. Stacy continues to hold a couple of trump cards and whether he plays them or not will be seen. I look for a high scoring affair and an edge of the seat experience. If the situation calls for a screwdriver and Stacy insists on using a hammer then look for a long evening. If he opens the toolbox then Greenville doesn't have a chance. Curt, Fletcher and Rasnake were ready the first time around. Everyone will be ready this time. Ty Garvin will be the diference maker on D. Look for the South recieving corp to be ready for the double team.

On paper South is the better team. On the field so far Greenville has been the better team. The last meeting was dominated by Greenville. However, when South broke loose Greenville could not contain it. Can South contain both Greenway and Barner? Can Greenville contain both Phillips and Fletcher? The answer will be at Death Valley on Pactolus Rd. at 7pm Friday. The THS game was huge...this game is MONUMENTAL! Rebel Nation.

Compusatman, you are quite the wordsmith...Your breakdown is right on minus one thing. G'ville dominated our LB's, they looked confused and couldn't find Barner behing those big lineman. If the LB's don't show up this week, same results will be the outcome. Keep in mind though, Rasnake went off on a stretcher and Blanken was a lame duck hobbling on one foot after the opening kickoff which may have allowed the lineman to get to the 'backers. This should be a good one. I anticapate a slobber knocker similar to the THS game.

  15. Great job this year seniors! All year you showed class and the Indian tradition. Your heart and drive made this year succesful, hope to hear about some of you on Saturday's. Good luck in your future endeavors.

For next year, this goes against what everybody assumes, but from an adult insider who appears to be in the loop with the coaches and the Quarterback Club...Jordan Roop appears to be the quarterback for next year. I do not have much knowledge about players from the junior varsity, I know of a few players from the freshman team that might be included next year, but from last night's starting lineup, these are the positions to be filled:

    Offense

    QB

    RB #32 Chris Sensabaugh (Fr.)

    FB

    TE #9 James Templeton (Jr.)

    WR #10 Jamie Crawford (Jr.)

    WR

    RT

    RG

    C #67 Ryan Church (Jr.)

    LG

    LT

Included: #2 Justin Sylvester (Jr.), position for next year unknown, #45 Jordan Lawson (Jr.), will most likely be at fullback

    Defense

    DE #66 Zack Fleming (Jr.)

    N

    DE #65 Will Bateman (Jr.)

    LB

    LB

    LB #47 Jason Michael (So.)

    OLB

    OLB

    CB #2 Justin Sylvester (Jr.)

    FS

    CB

    Punter #28 Joe Doran (Jr.)

    Kicker #16 Craig Mitcham (Jr.)

Included: #45 Jordan Lawson (Jr.), #9 James Templeton (Jr.), and #8 Brad Hoover (Jr.) will most likely accompany Jason Michael in the linebacker spots.

    Any help is appreciated.

What happened to the Crawford kid at QB?

  16. Great posts to stir things up which is what we all log on here to do.

Correct my history if it is wrong. I know of only one QB from Knoxville area the last 30 years to get a D-I offer and take it. That was Pennington to Marshall. In NET, I have to go back to David Bibee from THS's National Title team in the early 70's. Bibee never played much at UT after he got there. If we really talk ancient history we could go back to Spurrier. Am I overlooking other Knoxville or NET QB's?

    Joey Mathews - Sevier County

Randy Sanders - Mo' West (I think)

  17. Excellent analysis as always pudding. Spot on about the sign. I asked a buddy of mine in the stands how long he thought that sign would stay up. The word "mouth" was removed before the second half. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> As far as the refs, man I am never one to criticize what they do, however they were horrid last night. I my eyes they also missed a fumble right before the half. A Rebel defender, didn't catch who, stripped the ball away from the West back before he hit the ground and the line judge must have had his eyes shut. The personal fouls were obvious and there should have been some ejections, thanks to TrojanOT50 for offering an apology. Rebels it's time to prepare for the GDevils. Make a statement!

I totally agree. The redneck sign was just the beginning of the low class crap that followed. The refs let it get out of hand. I agree they did miss the strip right before the half, South should of had the ball around the 50 with a minute on the clock. The defender clearly had the ball, and was still standing up when he had it. Like the sign said, "All you do is run your mouth", its easy to do when you put 41 on someone.

  18. Best post on this thread.

Two very true statements - the "Curt quote" was only about the regular season and the comment that M-E is a tough 4 seed. In fact, I think M-E is the toughest 4 seed in the 4A playoffs, statewide.

I have to agree, very well stated. What's the word on the street about ME's stud middle linebacker making a comeback this week?

  19. Ladarius Verge of Riverdale just keeps convincing me...a PLAYMAKER, simply put. this guy doesnt dissapoint.

keep in mind this is a guy whose one of my better friends, i played 2 years with him and he's been starting for 3 years. i honestly couldnt throw his name out there if i didnt think he was a beyond worthy candidate. with 2 years under him, people expected him to just maintain, he's gone above and beyond. he is MUCH more athletic this year dropping some weight and gaining some speed. like i said if he's in the game, count on him to make a play

David Spurlock also of Riverdale has to be the best lineman in the state.

  20. The guy that sits across the hall from me at work is a JC S-H grad. In fact he played ball with Spurrier. He was telling me of all the potential that exists in JC. He and I were wondering (he is not too internet savvy) how is the movement to restore football to ETSU coming. Is there any possibility that a new stadium for ETSU and S-H could be worked out. Just wondering?

There is a movement to bring the program back. There is plenty of talk going around, and a push for private funds etc. Word is, that if it comes back it will be in a much smaller capacity. (Not that it was in a big one to start with) Most people I have spoke with believe it would be comarable to what happened at Austin Peay, revived in a D-II status. In addition, there are natural opponents at this level in Tusculum and Carson Newman. It is possible that it could come back at an even smaller level, such as a NAIA. You never know what the thinking is over there, look at the 'power conference' they put the basketball team in, and basketball was supposed to be the marquee sport after the demise of football.

  21. Michael Crowder and Ryan Lovelace got on the first team as linemen. Morgan Winchell got on the second team as a DE. Benji Farmer got on the 2nd team as a WR. Robbie Hobbs got on the second team as a DT and Josh Bowman as a Guard. Then a few honorable mentions.

Earlier someone left Matt Dickerson off the first team at DE,I think he deserves it,with prolly Bible at the other end. Collier can double up so put him at DT and Coleman from THS at the other DT. Those kids are tough to block.

Promising underclassmen, that QB from East could be pretty good,as could the Fletcher running back from South.

Next year is a little too far away to predict,it oughta be alot of fun again though.

South had 5 Soph's pick up 2nd team and Honorable Mention.
