  1. All this Siegel bashing needs to stop. No booster club officer or parent had ANYTHING to do with the selection of this coach. The AD did not ask for names or suggestions from any parents regarding this coach. This coach sought the job, along with other qualified candidates and the administration saw something in her that they liked as a new teacher and coach and hired her. End of story. The parents were notified of her name on Friday before the try out on Monday. Siegel was not an " Alliance" team this year. There were two players, a sophomore and a freshman, who played for Alliance. Numerous players played for Club West and numerous players played for RC Jrs., so it was not a specific club affiliation that brought this young coach to Siegel. Phargis is certainly not a representative of Siegel and BruinBabe is certainly a hater of Jay Golstyn. Clifford 20 knows exactly how the situation unfolded. My concern is for a young woman who has taken on a huge challenge and is being bashed and judged prior to the season even starting. She will make mistakes because the learning curve is huge as were each of our own learning curves when we started our own first jobs. Luckily our mistakes weren't scrutinized and posted on a ridiculous public forum such as this has become. I suggest that anyone who wants the true story should contact the AD at Siegel. Otherwise, quit posting lies. Let the coach have her success and mistakes. Her successes and mistakes will mold her to be the great coach she will ultimately become. If you have a problem with the hire then bash the AD. He made the hire solely. Just admire this young coach for taking on a huge challenge!

  2. Let me clarify what I meant by going back to pool play. I was thinking back several years to when after pool play, all 8 teams were placed into a single elimination tournament, before the first round was taken back out. However, I do certainly understand why this was scrapped as it did create more matches. The current format will almost certainly create a final between the two best teams, but not necessarily that the best team wins. The AA tournament a couple years ago comes to mind. Page beats Red Bank in the winners bracket, then Red Bank beats Page in the final. Both teams lost once to each other in tight matches, so who was the better team? I would like to see a true double elimination format in that case. That being said, I have to agree with the previous poster in that I would be very surprised if Ravenwood even drops a game. So, its probably all a moot point anyways.

On another note, let me give kuddos to the TSSAA for finally seeing the light and not forcing teams to have to play Siegel at Siegel in the state tournament. While I know the venues are limited and they did a great job hosting, no team should be given the advantage of a state match at home. The AAA site could easily be switched depending on whether Siegel or Blackman makes the state field.

The venue rotates each year between Blackman and Siegrl. It will be back at Siegel next year.

  3. MURFREESBORO — It wasn’t a typical regular season for Siegel’s volleyball team.

However, the postseason has gotten back to normal for the Lady Stars.

Siegel defeated Ooltewah 3-1, winning 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18 Thursday night in a Class AAA sectional to reach its third consecutive state tournament.

“You don’t realize until you are a senior how much it means to go to state,†said Addison Rogers, one of four seniors on this year’s team. “We’ve been working so hard this season. We really struggled early this year. But to come out the way we played (in the postseason) is just an amazing feeling.â€

The TSSAA state tournament tips off Wednesday at three locations — Blackman High, MTSU and Siegel High. The tournament is a double-elimination format. All of Wednesday’s Class AAA matches will be held at MTSU’s Murphy Center.

Siegel (34-16) improved to 5-0 in postseason play, winning both the District 7-AAA tournament and Region 4-AAA tournament.

Siegel’s 16 losses are the most in the three-year run. But few care now about the regular season.

THAT GAME FIVE YEARS AGO WAS AGAINST RED BANK NOT OOLTEWAH

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Siegel played Ooltewah this evening befor a fine crowd. This matchup was very similiar to a matchup that was held in the same arena with the only difference being the players and one of the Coaches. The Coach from Ooltewah was the same and the Coach at Siegel is Ann Mullins. The earlier matchup 5 years ago is still being talked about as to the play and intensity and some of the same officals officiating then still make their way to the Nations arena and sit down with some of the sisters who play now of those who played then. There is three-Two generation player on theis squad and three 3rd generation players playing on this current squad this year. Just to make it to the State three years in a row is a record for the current group.

This matchup went 4 games and lasted over 90 minutes and points lasted forever with great play on both sides. This was more than a regular match between two great schools, this is the match that could have happened at the end of the first day which happened two years ago when these two played till 1:00 in the morning of that State Tournament. Both schools played as if there was no tomorrow last night in the typical, Ooltewah/Siegel fashion and both knew what was in store for them when they walked in the gym. Siegel out willed Ooltewah. And for 90 minutes it was outstanding volleyball. And now Siegel is in the State the third year in a row and the Sister of up to 3 generations af three generations of players can say I did it too.

Stats of this match will come from another direction but all that matters now, they earned a Chance and now they have a chance to see what they can do in the State.

  5. I happened upon this topic today, and curiosity got the best of me. I viewed the U Tube video, and it was even more blatant that I imagined. I too think Coach Fryer is one of the hardest working coaches and continually produces good teams and a successful program. Successful programs also become targets for haters. On the other hand, sometimes with success comes more pressure to be successful, and even great coaches break rules. This board, IMO, is not a press agency, but a public forum, as is U Tube, where we have the privilege of expressing our views. I do not understand how someone is a "snotty nosed slanderous high schooler" for posting this. It is very concerning and I appreciate CoachT for maturely forwarding this to TSSAA. IF it is what it appears, action should be taken. It is not now for us to judge, but for them to investigate.

  6. This whole matter is very concerning. In Rutherford Couty, the zoning allegations start at the political level which was recently evidenced with zoning allegations against a State Representative. These allegations filter down into the high schools (not JUST Riverdale) and are rumored at the middle school level in that county. I do wish that parents would take a good, long look at the ethics involved in these situations. WHY WOULD PARENTS EVER PLACE THEIR CHILDREN IN THE POSITION TO LIE ABOUT ZONE AND RESIDENCE? The lesson they seem to be teaching is that rules do not apply to them . . . they are just made for others. As a result of these infractions, if proven true, many high school and middle school players can be adversely affected, and their hard work for the season could possibly be forfeited. Wake up parents and coaches who know their players are out of zone. Play by the rules, and do what is right for the sake of the kids and the team's future. Riverdale is a great school and has a great basketball tradition. Hopefully, for the sake of the players, they will be cleared and the team will continue their success. GO WARRIORS!!!

  7. Congrats to Nicole after her being shunned at last years TSSAA semifinals! Much as our players were... and I include Jess & Becca in that group! No sour grapes just truth....

    Way to go Nicole!

    Mark.

    (a.k.a. Jess' dad)

Sounds like from most of your prior posts, there are a lot of sour grapes. Let it go. Have a Merry Christmas.

  8. Good luck to the Lady Stars!!!!! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

They will need it. You know they are very unselfish this year and PRETTY smart!

  9. 1. Riverdale

    2. Cookeville

    3. Lebanon

    4. Blackman

    5. Siegel

    6. White Co.

    7. Oakland

    8. Warren Co.

I think Riverdale and Cookeville are the class of the league and probably split during season. I see Riverdale probably getting the edge in the tournament.

I agree with the top four, but who knows about the bottom four. Could be close amongst them all. Will be close between Riverdale and Cookeville, but Riverdale will pull it out.

  10. Whats this RC and Moon Pies. I thought Hargis knew everything that goes on this board. Guess I was wrong. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Again? Nothing better to post about?

  11. And to top it off, it appears that Hargis is furnishing moon pies. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Phargis should be so flattered that he's all you have to post about. Get a life!!!!!

  12. well see here's the thing, just to make this clear....not ONE of these girls was picked to be on the all tournament team because of her parents' "political connections"

They were all very deserving. Obviously the twins are amazing hitters, Jenn Holbert just a great all around player, and Rebekah Williams an excellent passer and setter.

The other 2 starters were also very deserving and equally amazing but were not put on the team.

Sorry to be blunt but get over it....the focus should be put back on WINNING another state tournament!!!

Girls play your hearts out...but not for some award, for each other!

Weren't there only so many awards that could be given from that team? From what I have read on this website, Greenbrier must be more special than any other team. They say their girls are ALL so talented and so sweet. I guess they were just supposed to have an All Greenbrier Tournament Team. Sometimes life is not fair. The girls should play for the love of the game and their teammates....NOT JUST AWARDS.

  13. Hats off to Red Bank on a job well done! No wonder Red Bank won - the coach makes the whole team feel like an entire unit; not only does she commend the team on a job well done - she challenges them making them want to win for themselves and their coach. How awesome is this?!? Coach Helton provides stats on all of her girls who played giving everyone one of them a pat on the back.

Too bad Siegel does not have the same luxury of seeing their entire teams stats; it looks as if there are only 2 players on the team - sometimes 3. No wonder the girls feel like they have been beating their heads against a wall all season - it has been nothing but mental games. Remember, it takes an "entire" team to win and lose games.

Well see which Coach can rise to the challenge in having their girls prepared Thursday when Siegel and Red Bank hit the court.

Impressive Challenger1. Way to support your team!!!!

  14. I will probably have to agree with that, since thats all of their scoring will come from. I think Siegel wins the district with only one or two losses. They have just too much fire power and will have balanced scoring. My only question is with a new coach and new point guard how will they do in the post season...and who is their pt. guard?????

I recall a few years ago a Siegel team having this caliber of players. The question is will they play team ball or will their egos get in the way of playing for the team, not themselves. They definately have the talent and a lot will be determined by how they are coached. Riverdale is young and will be inconsistent initially, but may surprise many.

  15. Riverdale should certainly be at the top and they have the coach to take them there. You are giving Siegel way too much credit. If the coach could not do more with the team he had last year, I am not expecting much this year. Don't forget Icelyn Elie from Lebanon who has committed to MTSU. She should elevate her team this year for some great games in 7AAA.

  16. Lipscomb and Belmont both have great facilities for hosting such an event. It seems somewhat anti-climactic to play the state tournament in a high school gym. Although, Siegel and Blackman both have wonderful facilities and certainly know how to host a great tournament.

  17. Knivaball2 - You are taking simple question and blowing it way out of context and bringing the posters family into the conversation - that is not necessary. I am asking you to please stop. If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say it at all. KINDNESS IS THE KEY!!!

BTW - next time you may want to log off your 2nd log in name before you respond to a post. In the first post you wrote in as minervajones and then responded to the question as knivball2.

These silly kids!! Some of them just can't move on and leave high school behind!

CONGRATULATIONS RIVERDALE ON A GREAT WIN AGAINST BLACKMAN!!!! How does that change the standings in 7AAA.

  18. I think Stone Memorial has the best fans! When they get all of those football and basketball boys in that tiny gym of theirs it makes for a great volleyball atmosphere.

    Best food?

Best uniforms...I like Cookeville and Anderson Co. uniforms, but there are a lot of nice ones out there.

Best Tradition.. I think Anderson Co. has a lot of tradition in their program, as well as, Greenbrier and Brentwood.

Best food definately goes to Brentwood!!!

  19. I believe everyone has seen the stats if they have been reading the threads. I would suggest not to put any undo stress and expectations on the Lady Stars. You really should not talk smack - its like karma it will come back and hit you directly between the eyes. Not only does Siegel need to get through their district, but then you are talking regionals and sectionals before state. You are thinking too far down the road when there is a lot of vb left to play. So take a deep breath and just think about the next game!

Great post!!!! If your team is good or your "baby girl" is good, you don't have to talk smack or boast. It only lessens YOUR credibility. Your record and stats will always speak for themselves. Why give any teams "bulletin board marerial" to motive them? Why do you want to add undue pressure to Siegel? One match does not mean anything - you must consisitently play at that level. COOL YOUR JETS and let your Siegel Nation and your team's stats and record do the talking.

  20. Great post. The topic is players to watch, not players who are being recruited. There is nothing wrong with giving players, and in this case many players, recognition for their hard work. These players put in many, many hours just to be able to be competitive in high school. Also, being part of a team is so much bigger than the ball and builds a strong work ethic in these young ladies.

  21. Have not seen this posted yet, I apologize if I missed it. Just wanted to take a moment to give a congratulations to Holli for signing with Roane State. A great chance to further her education, and play some competitive ball. Good job Holli.

Congrats to Holli. Where did she attend high school?
