  1. True! I've been keeping eye out, nobody's said anything from GCA. I remember one guy who ended every one of his posts with " The Grace Christian Academy, Commitment To Excellence". BARF
  2. Yeah, Ned was the point guard on the last team to do it, back in 92. Really, that fourth quarter was gut-check time, and they got it done. South Greene really played well up until that fourth quarter, but HHS toughened up. It's so hard to beat the same team 4 times in a season, and I was really dreading this one.
  3. No, Coach VanHuss died several years back. He was a great coach, winning the state title at Hampton (when there was only one to win) then going to Kingsport Dobyns Bennett. I got to meet the man, very polite, he knew my dad and mom from back in the day, and I was amazed at how nice he was. There'll never be another like him.
  4. The Dogs looked sharp tonight, they didn't take Hancock lightly. If they keep that mind-set, they'll do well. It's always hard to beat a team 4 times, but they can do it.
  5. Game day! Let's go Dogs! Let's get back to the Sub-State!
  6. I hope we do! A home sub-state has a magic feeling to it, an excitement in the air you don't feel anywhere else other than State! Plus, VanHuss-White Gym is AWESOME packed to the rafters!
  7. Okay, that tells me something! Our game tuesday should be fun, good to see the guys taking it one game at a time, they took care of business saturday night. One more win and they're in the sub-state!
  8. I haven't really heard anything about Hancock on here, anybody got anything on them?
  9. Well it's official, we play Tennessee School for the Deaf. Does anybody know anything about them other than their nickname is the Vikings? They have a 15-11 record, so what can we expect?
  10. Has anybody heard how the other semi between South Greene and North Greene turned out?
  11. I heard because we play a game there each year, so THAT gives us an advantage. Go figure.
  12. The District was gonna be at Elizabethton, but Unaka nixed that idea. They said it gave Hampton too much of an advantage.
  13. The T$$AA has a requirement that Region Tournaments have to be somewhat centrally located in the Region. So no more Milligan tourneys or going up to Lincoln Memorial. I hate Chuckey Doak too, but it's a dang sight better than going all the way to Lincoln Memorial.
  14. The boys game is at 5:30, right after the HHS girls play North Greene.
  15. Yeah Unoit, that GC defense was tough! They had big guys unside that were also very fast! The whole team was fast. That was probably the toughest team they've faced since Science Hill. Some people may look and see a two game losing streak and say they're done, but those games could have gone either way, and were against TOUGH competition. I think they'll get it going again.
  16. That's very true, Pujo. In fact I mentioned those missed free throws to you on the way out that night. I realize we really should have won the game based on the free throws alone, but that was a sorry ref-exhibition.
  17. There were certainly a BUNCH in the stands! Mine included. I hope the guys use it as a motivational thing, not to mention the write-up in the Press today about the District Tourney. We're still the fav, but we've dropped back to the back some. That fired ME up!
  18. Odds are that one possession could have really turned the tide in the game. Certainly Stanley would have dunked it, there was no one around to impede him, and that would have given the Dogs all sorts of momentum. That ref was clearly biased all night.
  19. Yeah, I thought I was gonna blow my top off on that one! That one ref was HORRIBLE. Gang tackling Jones and McClain and getting the ball after every tackle. SIGH> I HATE going to Erwin. If anything, this sort of game just shows the guys that yes, they can be beaten if they don't cover on defense, hit free throws, and hit the boards hard. Unicoi has a bunch of big guys, so they had better ability to rebound, but the free throws are important. I hope Ned has been addressing that in practice.
  20. For the Jr. High question, being Sectional Champs is the equal of being State Champs in High School. VERY big deal for the guys and for the basketball program in Hampton in general, it means there's some SERIOUS talent moving up the pipeline! And to answer an earlier question, yes HHS has won in that gym, but it's been a while! With the calls they get in that place, it's very hard for anybody to go in there and pull out a win. I was a bit surprised by the partying going on myself, I know it was a big game and all, but the two are in different classes and conferences. I guess they knew how lucky they were to pull that one out.
  21. Looks like we're in the midst of a great run of talent in Hampton. GREAT to see!
  22. Yeah, that second half wasn't much fun, but the first half was good enough to cruise on. They're gonna have to work on that. Valentine played a monster first half, he had 21 ppoints at halftime. The main thing is,they got out of Brooks with the W. Last year they lost in a foul-fest when several starters fouled out in there, so I'm pretty pleased.
  23. I'd love to know how many points McClain and Jones had tonight, they really did the dirty work, esp in that third quarter. That was just WOW.
  24. Personally I've never liked rubbing it in. I don't do it, myself, and don't like hearing it. The civility that was there for the longest time between these two is disappearing. I've seen Cloudland fans cheer wildly when Hampton loses, something that never used to happen. I know Hampton has had Cloudland's number for a bit now, but we used to pull for each other against other schools, and that seems to be going away. I've had family at Cloudland, so I've had to endure A LOT of crap and Lander this and Lander that just to keep peace. But still, I don't indulge in rubbing it in.
  25. Only the girls played at Gate City last night. The boys play'em later in the year. From what I could gather, it was a mistake printed on the schedule.
