  1. I was just ready to start this topic myself, and you beat me to it. It should be a good game. Lipscomb is playing more consistently on offense, and the ground game is starting to come around. I know PC has some athletic talent, but they have played very inconsistently. I saw the PC game earlier this year vs BGA, and thought PC would pull that one out. However, mistakes by PC sealed their fate. I think the keys are, turnovers by either team (or the lack thereof), can PC control Lipscomb's ground game, or if Lipscomb can actually achieve a balanced offensive attack, then I think they'll win.
  2. I don't really understand the "If Lipscomb losses to White Creek" statement above. Is that a prediction, wish or what? Anyway, District 10 AA is down, including the Mustangs. However, I don't know that CPA is as strong as last year either. Although they opened their schedule against Goodpasture, I think this has been a strange, and perhaps a down year for them as well. Therefore, it's hard to make much of a judgement from that game. The rest of CPA's schedule to-date has been fairly easy, so we'll have to see them play some stronger teams to get a better read on the Lions.
  3. Well I do hope they drill Greenbrier and Whites Creek, but they're at a point they need to take ALL opponents seriously as the season is slipping away. The bad thing is that 3 of their tough opponents that they face early each season were all down this year (Overton, Maplewood and Goodpasture). Therefore, the Mustangs missed a good opportunity for a win in each case. I don't know if they'll split with Pearl-Cohn and CPA or not, but a split, along with wins against. Greenbrier, Whites Creek and Stratford, would give the Mustangs a chance at making the playoffs. Otherwise, they're missing a second straight playoff.
  4. Just curious bigchief. How many players have been serving this suspension? I've seen posts saying everything from 2 or 3 up to 12 or 13. Also, I've heard the suspension would last from a few games to they're out for the entire season. If the number of players is 12 to 13 (of which I heard most were starters), then I would expect GP to be quite good upon their return. I agree Lipscomb didn't look good. The running game has looked decent at times, but inconsistent. They should have been able to win last night for sure. I don't know if the kids took GP lightly, or not. It doesn't appear to be a lack of effort, but again inconsistency in many areas.
  5. There's always a few kids leaving any football team each year for a variety of reasons. However, I don't know of any mass exodus, or news-worthy event involving this years sophomores quitting. I believe there were two sophomores from last year (juniors this year) who left the team this spring/summer that would have impacted this years team. Both were multisport athletes, and I believe one had an injury in the spring that may have factored into his decision. I think coach McCadams is like most of us would be in his circumstances. He probably thinks of retirement at times, and has even joked about when he'll retire, but I've not heard anything this year, that makes me believe he's close to making that decision. For sure winning is more fun for everybody, players, fans, and coaches as well. I agree they (Lipscomb) are not where they used to be as a team, but they are improving.
  6. I'm surprised there's been little to no mention of this game. Both teams bring a single win, and Goodpasture has lost a several players to suspensions. Let's talk about the teams, and hear everyone's predictions on which team will come away with their second win of the season.
  7. Overton appears to down a bit this year! as is Lipscomb. Who will prevail in this matchup tonight?
  8. Bump....How good will East Lit be compared to last years team?
  9. Were the Cubs that good, or the Mustangs that bad?
  10. Does any one know the results from day one, or any observations? Which local teams showed well, and which did not. Thanks!
  11. Is CPA participating in any of the 7-on-7 tournaments?
  12. David Lipscomb is now Lipscomb Academy. Any updates from people attending this event would be appreciated.
  13. Boski - Would like to hear your take on MHS this year. Strengths, weaknesses and impact players.
  14. Well where to start? I only commented one area of your post for a reason, but have opinions on more than that. First of all, I know a fair number of CPA parents and kids. Some I think are wonderful, but there's a fair number of pompous jerks like yourself. (By answering my first post, you've given me a good idea who you are.) First of all, I like what CPA's coaches have done with their team. It's obvious Ellson and Martin have done well putting the program on a good footing. I was very impressed with their O-line and D-line, and believe they have the raw materials (kids), and coaching to be very good. I agree their QB is a proven, and talented kid also. I reserve judgement on receivers and running backs, as I've not seen these players yet, and you did not mention names. I'll also reserve judgement on the defense for now, but a know a few kids who are good players who'll be "in the mix". I believe the linebackers mentioned are good players, but I'll stand by my earlier statements on size and potential at the "next level". As for your smite about "CouchT", and the sedentary nature and lack of athletic experience/knowledge of most posters, I have nothing to prove to you. I feel quite secure in my past athletic endeavors, and each of my "brood" wear state championship rings, and have done well competing also. I also complete understand the various the levels of athletic competition available in college. and think you're probably the one who lacks expereince and success on the field. P.S. I also agree with BIGPURPLEMACHINE. Have a nice day.
  15. So, are the 3 senior linebackers: Landers at 5-10 and 185 lbs, Charles at 5-10 and 150 lbs, and Fleenor at 5-9 and 175 lbs? If so, they have "college potential" written all over them. I mean they're like small cornerbacks in college.
  16. A team can finish 5-5 and make the playoffs. I believe most of your opinion on the Mustangs is based on reputation, and the coaching staff. It has little to do with knowing their players, the team, etc.. We'll see. I certainly hope they're better, but I would like to see a return to the level they've played at for most of past 10 or so year, minus last year of course.
  17. CPA has lost more than Vic Wharton. They also lost other good players: Jackson Cothren, Sam Cranford, Winston Williams, and Hunter Thurley. How much will losing these seniors and Vic Wharton affect the team?
  18. Glimps and Jackson were playing hurt last year, but not 50% all year (an exaggeration). I would not call the 2011 Mustangs a young team at all. I would call a "young" player a freshman or sophomore player. On the average, the Mustangs started 7 seniors on offense, and 9 seniors on defense last year. On offense only 2 "young" players started (Jackson and Simpson), and on defense only 3 "young" players started (Jackson, Runion and Elkins). This was not a young team. The team suffered through one of the weakest senior classes in a long time. A few good players, but very, very weak athletically overall. The class behind them (this years seniors) is below average in overall football talent as well, but may be a bit better than last years class. The O-line really fell short, but was all seniors. The D-line, may have been a bit better, but was not very strong either. I wondered all year if they should have "bit the bullet" like Goodpasture, and plugged-in some of the better young players on the OL/DL. GP did this and started slow, but after a few games they improved, and now have a good young group of players on the O-line. Lipscomb on the other hand has a totally new/unproven O-line this year. They may have better talent, but will start off with no varsity experience. Simpson is now gone from QB and football to focus on basketball as well. Overall team speed is also down. The junior class next year is a good class athletically, but several of the good athletes have left football to focus on other sports. The sophomore class next year is pretty good, but may not have but one or two players who are "varsity ready". The team may be better, but it could be another rough year in the tough district 10 AA for the Mustangs.
  19. Can you explain why you think Lipscomb will be worthy of that rating?
  20. Cool. Sounds like the Mountain Troll (and perhaps others on the "mountain") have been studying the TSSAA rules closely as of late.
  21. Doesn't "working out with" a particular team commit you to that team? I mean where does he live? Is his family in a motorhome, so he can check-out all potential schools? It would seem if you leave a private school, then you could only attend and/or participate in school-related athletic practices with a public school you're zoned for until you establish a new residence and partition the TSSAA for a legitimate transfer of residence approval. You could probably visit other schools, but not participate in a workout or practice. Besides if this kid lands on a good team (possibly with playoff and championship aspirations), and is later ruled ineligible, the team could have to forfeit games. He could be a "stink bomb" disguised as a good athlete. I would like to see how TSSAA handles this case.
  22. "Nobody cares what he did to not be at CPA" (interpretation - "I don't care") "but we all care to know - is Wharton eligible to walk right into another high school and play on the varsity level?" (interpretation - "I want to know is he eligible and available?") It's like what Jim Rome says: "If someone says - It's not about the money, then It's about the money".
  23. What so he can continue to terrorize Lipscomb? Wharton and Vanlier both exposed Lipscomb's defense pretty badly last year.
  24. So could CPA's forgiveness or "grace" (remember there were "multiple mistakes") extend during a potential champsionship season, and end once it is over? Remember, "Coach Wharton also did a few things that were inappropriate" also. Multiple incidents involving both father and son......a timeline for the events stated above would be most interesting.
  25. I also heard that there was some incident involving his father (football and track coach). If true, perhaps this was a factor also. Anyway, 4 or 5 different schools in the last 4 or 5 years. That alone should raise flags. It should be interesting where he lands. You've got to wonder if colleges might start to wonder if they can keep this kid, in school or at their school for more than a year.
