Yes, what an accomplishment- Congratulations to Trent Dilfer and his team of mercenary players, who represent 35 of the 50 states, on defeating CPA.

Man....just some message board banter.  Do I think PC is afraid of Lipscomb?  No.  Do I wonder why they said no to a game this Friday?  Yep.

As far as a team full of multi state mercenaries, I count 4 and that includes QB who's been at LA since he was a sophomore.  Happy to go position by position with names and backgrounds if you would like.

Go ahead and do that. List where each player attended Middle School too while you're at it...

    You ran from Lipscomb

There isn't a single person in Tennessee who thinks PC is afraid of Lipscomb.

If we're using this logic, Dilfer and Lipscomb ran away from all of AAA by not moving up last off season.  You'd think with a team full of multi state mercenaries he'd want the best competition around...

Not trying to stir the pot because Ernie is a great guy but what was his record the past few years against good competition.  Yes, Lipscomb could beat up on the MNPS  and a few county schools but D2 is a different ballgame.  It's all about winning games and Lipscomb has really struggled against good competition.

Lipscomb's girls team is 7-7 overall and 1-5 in region.  Roller really has them going in the right direction...

Firing him was their choice, although it appears they are no better off. The issue is the administration issued a press release saying he was stepping down, trying to make it seem as if it was his decision.

So, if you're going to ride the fence I'll ask the question... hypothetically, if you had the power to do the hiring, would you have hired him?

Fair question, although it's kind of impossible for me to say without knowing who else they interviewed and who else would have accepted the job. I didn't see the press conference, but didn't Glenn say they interviewed a large number of candidates?

My preference would have been a coach with previous Head coaching experience at the high school level, preferably at a private school. It is possible, and even probable, thats exactly what they wanted in a candidate (Ingle Martin for example), but could not get any of them to accept the job. Maybe Dilfer was the best option of what they could get, we'll never know. I do know that if I were a coach, I'd be leery of accepting a job at Lipscomb after the way they have treated some coaches and athletic programs.

Yes I admitted there is risk in hiring him, but there would be risk in any hire.  Even proven coaches go to other programs and dont work out i.e. Potter at BA. No guarantees!

Not confused.   Your last paragraph summed up what I was arguing which is...... AS OF TODAY, this isn’t a bad decision by the administration.  This is a great decision based on the information and facts.  A little unfair to the administration to throw them under the bus re. their past decision making and not acknowledge the decision they made today to hire Dilfer is a great decision today.   It will be proven in later years whether it was or was not a good decision but the decision made AS OF TODAY, is a great one.   Only those administrations/organizations who have a crystal ball make great hiring decisions 100% of the time.  It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize while you have the luxury of watching it all unfold and then at some point in the future point fingers at bad decision making when THiS decision, as of today, is the right decision and I doubt anyone, including you, would’ve walked away from hiring Dilfer.

Yes this decision won the press conference, but it wasn’t based on that. It was based on a Christian man who grew up as the son of a HS football coach and played at the highest level of his sport and the belief is that he can coach HS football players. He has been around some of the greatest coaches in football so I would assume he has learned a few coaching tips along the way.   Also, I would say being a career QB gives him a leg up on most pros who want to coach. His football IQ is built on extensive offensive knowledge with a great understanding of defenses.   Most head coaches in HS specialize on one side of the ball or the other. Not both.

None of the above guarantees success, but I wouldn’t bet against him being successful and I would bet you wouldn’t either.

    OK, cool.

So what I understand you are saying is that this was a bad decision by the administration to hire Dilfer.   Is that correct?  So the only hire you would make is someone who has HS Head coaching experience?  Really??  I think this hire is a great coaching hire decision!   Is there risk?  YES.   Are there questions whether Dilfer can translate his football knowledge to 15-17 year olds and get them to perform?  Yes!   Do you walk away from hiring a guy like this when the opportunity presents itself?  NO!!   Dilfer may be great or he may fail, but no coach they would hire is a 100% fail proof.  Why not take a chance on someone with a resume this strong?    BTW, news flash......Bowers and Martin were both 1st year coaches at one point, and someone had to “take a chance” on these guys.   I’m sure there were people like you saying, what are they doing, he’s never been a head coach before.   I think it’s crazy and foolish  to forecast “failure” for a guy that comes into this with an extreme amount of football knowledge as compared to most first year HS football coaches.

I didn't ever say hiring him was a bad decision. I said he was unproven and has zero high school coaching experience, which is true. You just acknowledged hiring him is a risk and their are questions about whether or not he can translate football knowledge to high school players... which are exactly the points I made.

My comment about how if he didn't succeed as a coach, his hire wouldn't have been the first terrible decision the LA administration made was a shot at the admin, not at Dilfer. Sorry if that confused you.

May not have game coaching experience? Let’s see, was a favorite of Tom Dungy, played 4 years HS, played College, was a first round NFL pick, NFL starter, super bowl winner, played the most important position on the field in QB and my guess is if he wanted to coach at the NFL level, a team would hire him. He would be hard pressed to get out coached by any coach around here and if you’re an elite player, I’d assume you’d be smart enough to want to play for coach of this caliber. Where did Bowers or Martin or for that fact any of these HS coaches get their experience and can you honestly say any of these coaches carry a resume like Dilfer? LA has been humbled over the last couple of years and will face adversity while they retool the program but it’s only a matter of time. They now have the foundation down to build upon.

No one disputes he had a successful career as a player. Playing experience alone doesn't automatically translate to success as a coach, much less as a head coach. You are assuming that because he played in the NFL, somehow he automatically is destined to have success as a coach. It just doesn't work that way. No matter how much Tony Dungy  likes him,  the fact is he is completely unproven as a high school football coach.

Bowers or Martin don't have a resume like his?  Correct. No super bowls for either of them. Just multiple state championships as high school football coaches. Which is the job we are talking about. So,  yea, I think I'll go with Bowers and Martin's resumes.

From all accounts he is a good man, and has been successful working with QBs in camps. I wish him well, but this seems like a hire designed to win a press conference, with little forethought about his experience or ability to do the job. It wouldn't be the first terrible decision made by this administration.

The name alone will attract athletes to their program. Also have you ever heard of the Elite 11 camp for QBs? That's a really big deal as well. Anytime someone hires a Super Bowl winning QB it's a big deal. Again, I'm not a Lipscomb fan, but I realize a big hire when I see it.

I have heard of Elite 11, but his association with a QB camp doesn't change the fact that he has zero high school coaching experience. Being a head coach involves a lot more than coaching qb mechanics at a camp.

Trent Dilfer is the new head coach. Trust me.. what a huge hire for this program.

Why is this a huge hire? NFL experience does not translate automatically to being a good coach, and he has zero experience as a high school coach. He's totally unproven.

Looks like you fired a pretty good coach... Should of had a replacement already lined up! Now you're scrambling to save face!

Maybe they can give the job to Ryan Roller like they did after Ernie Smith "resigned" as the girls basketball coach.

They just don't know! They're about to find out.

I don't know anything about pc or fairview, but I do know you are making me uncomfortable with your man crush and desperation for attention from pearl posters. Trying just a little too hard bud.

If you are waiting on someone to compliment Springfield, good luck... Biggest compliment I can give that crap hole is at least you aren't portland...

  13. OK, since the senate hearings are not over and I have to provide you with confidential information, I will! Mr. Benji Cunningham lives within walking distance to Goodpasture. The current Quarterback lives in the Ezel Harding (I hope I spelled that right) school area. Only 4 existing players to my knowledge live more than 10 miles from the school. Is it ok if I leave the witness stand now? I do understand officer that I am still under oath and I can still be called back to the stand!

um, yea....... you didn't at all answer what he was asking...

  14. Good one Big Reid....somebody sounds GUILTY!!!

All goodpasture fans are guilty of something, mainly being trash. Bet they keep metro cops busy in the stands. I heard they need 5 or 6 officers at most home games to control the parents.

    Wow, you have no class!

gpcougar fan, crawl back into your dumpster.

It's laughable for a goodpasture fan to accuse ANYONE else of not having class. Get ready for late hits on the field, and fools in the parking lot, York!

  15. Just ignore this clown. I'm pretty sure he as a Scottsboro fan that was on the board last season causing trouble. He had the audacity to call out Goodpasture's AD for not scheduling them for a game after the season had already started!

Hey RidinRough, can we "BOOK IT!" that SCA is on their way to an Alabama state title? /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Scootsboro actually has quite a bit of talent this season, and would whip dbcs or lcs fairly easily in my opinion.

  16. I was a bit premature, that always happens. Apparantly Booker played last year in a couple of semi-pro games with the Memphis Bust or Cordova. TSSAA is looking into whether or not this violates any league policies. I thought it was all because of transfer or grades but the saga continues.

    "BOOKER 08"

Listen hoss, I'm not going to sit here and listen to you mock Marcus and his elegibility situation. He is a great kid from a great family, and would give anything to get all this paperwork finished and get out on the field. Your posts insult him and his family, and I would prefer you not speak about things that you know nothing about from now on.
