  1. Pigeon Forge will be much improved but to say AAA is top to bottom the toughest division in the state is laughable. AA and AAAA are much tougher top to bottom than AAA ever wanted to be. There are several good teams in AAA but not top to bottom.

Tough is relative. He/she may be trying to say that there is more parity. Who knows?

  2. East has the power to be good, but that antiquated offensive scheme will keep them from moving past round 3 usually. East and West need to ditch the veer or wang t either one. You have to be balanced to get by the Red Rebels of the world these days....

East has one of the best LB's in East TN returning.

West hasn't ran the veer since Chrisman left, and I am pretty sure they haven't ran the Wing-t since Bragg stopped coaching.

I am just not sure what you are talking about.

  3. DZ you might better check your source at the Tribune. I would hate for you to lose your creditability on this forum.

Why wouldn't he apply? How does that effect DZ's credibility?

He would be a great fit, and he seems to be as good a teacher as he is a coach. And, according to former players he is a good man. It would be a great catch for JC.

  4. As a coach, it's the dad that wants to talk to his kid right at the beginning of half-time over the fence or the guy I hardly know that sits behind my wife and discusses where he think I should go.

As a fan, it is the guy that wants to talk to me as the ball is being snapped, or the parents that drop their kids off and drive away.

As a parent, it is the parent that wants to call plays from the bleachers.

I love the quiet dads that shake their sons' hands at the end of the game (or dads who give a hug...either way....) Those sons can't hear a word I say at the end of a game. They are wondering where their dad is.

  5. QUOTE(wiseguy @ Mar 17 2007 - 09:58 PM) 826415771[/snapback]I agree with most of what u r saying. 40 coverage people get work daily and should know what to do as do DE's keep contain, don't get kicked, squeeze when tackle scoops, rush the QB. Not so with the 50 ends. Now ya gotta spend what little practice time u have coaching em to play the flats, play man, etc. while teaching the tackles what the ends should already know about technique and blitzes with LB's + remember their own techs. Compound that with motion and a kid has to move and communication breaks down. Not saying people don't already do it well, just think ya get more bang 4 your buck with the 40 when playing a spread team that is balanced. Side note, wonder what the average GPA is for high school kids?

With the right personel, almost any front is successful.

    I like a 50 myself.

  6. IVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH SOME AMAZING COACHES BUT I THINK SOME OF THE BEST WOULD HAVE TO BE:

    JEFF PRICE-SCIENCE HILL

    GREG FOREMAN-PIGEON FORGE

    BILL BRIMER-GREENEVILLE

NOT ONLY DO THESE GUYS GIVE AMAZING TECHINICAL INSTRUCTION BUT ARE ALSO GREAT PEOPLE.

When I read the thread title, those are the three names that came to mind.

    Good people.

  7. Knox West, Morr. East.

I think both of those schools are overlooked because of schools like Central, Powell, and M. West.

I honestly think some of the best football in the country runs from Chattanooga to Bristol.

When I moved to Atlanta, I expected to football to be superior to TN football, but it is not. All I saw was a lot of wishbones and wing-ts.

  8. Thanks coachc... but they are 12-1 this year after tonights win. They may play Northside Warner Robbins for the title in two weeks. Northside Warner Robbins is ranked 25th in prep nations poll right behind Maryville.

Thanks for the correction. I have no idea why my fingers typed that. I attended the Pebblebrook game that they lost.

    East Paulding Schedule and Results

  9. John Reid... Back to Back Titles with Alcoa, And the 3-peat is a forgone conclusion. Alcoa was in shambles when he arrived broken windows in the weight room, ect ... Currently he is Head Coach In Georgia @ East Paulding High school. East Paulding has never had a winning season or even sniffed a playoff game until this years 11-1 team which is one of the" Elite Eight" left in the State 4AAAA playoffs

He also has another Title in The Hoosier Dome from his Indiana coaching days!!!!

    ENUFF SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He and the Raiders at East Pauldng advance to the semi finals with 35-28 defeat of Starr's Mill. They are 14-0.

  10. If you are not doing anything, we are wrestling at Morristown East tonight at 6:30. Come on up and see us.

Thanks. I enjoyed it. I haven't been in that gym in a while.

It looks as though SH and DB faired pretty well.

Thanks for the invite. I hope to see more.

  11. For those of ya'll that don't know, Coach Collins gives one of the best looking free haircuts south of Kentucky. How are you doing? Are you still in Georgia? You need to come up to the Hill and visit, you know everybody on the coaching staff. It would be like a reunion. E-mail us at topperwrestling@hotmail.com.

No, we moved to Knoxville in October. I plan on getting up that way.

I am excited to get to see some TN wrestling. You all will have to help me catch up.

  12. I think SH would be the best team if they had a good Asst. Coach. I don't know who that guy is but they must have gotten him from the Nut farm in New Mexico???

Just kidding TDArtist!! Hope you have a great year.

I'll always have to root for GHS since they're my alma mater but SH is my #2 since your there.

    See ya soon.

I know for a fact that the assistant coach at SH is from a Nut farm.

I wonder what his opinion would be about the poster who says East hasn't had a coach in decades. East's coach from the fall of '99 to the Spring of '01 was from the same nut farm.

Do you ever wonder what he is doing now?

On a serious note, Kiki Ramos was one of the toughest kids I have coached. He was only in the sixth grade at the time, but won the middle school conference(Hamblen, Greeneville, and Jeff county) championship at around 119. He is the kicker for M. West and a stand out soccer player, but I do not think he wrestles anymore.

  13. It's almost comical that all the comments and speculation about the SHHS football coaching job is coming from people who don't have an vested intrested in the program. The thing that pulls my goat is how all these "great" men are at the center of it, this is high school these coaches are going to have a lil input into these young men's lives but they still live at home where they have someone that's going to have an whole lot more to do with the boy becoming an man.

I am not sure why it is comical. What exactly is a vested interest? I am much more interested in the wrestling program, but I have followed SH football for about 22 years. I have competed against them, watched, clicked on TSSAA.org more times than I can count trying to find out the score. I just hope they improve and I happen to know Nelson and would like for him to have a shot at it.

I would like to think that all teenagers have great role models at home. A coach that genuinely cares about the guys he coaches and the program in which he coaches, is special and rare. I would hesitate to underestimate the influence that a coach can have, but then again I have had some really special coaches.

It doesn't have to be a powerful influence, but it certainly can be.

  14. I did drive down from Gray. My mapquest directions got me a little off where I think I was supposed to turn onto Lamar Alexander. I got to there around 6:30 and drove around until the game started and gave up. I kept hoping to see stadium lights while I was on 321 but never did. I've used mapquest to drive from Florida to California before and never got lost before until last night. Like I said I did get to listen to the game all the way home so it was no big deal. I just hope I have better luck next week in Murfreesboro.

I got lost too, but I accidently turned on Broadway and found it. MApquest had me going 321 N, then Houston, then Cedar.

  15. I'm not saying he is not a swell guy, but when was the last time East beat a team with a winning record? What would be the point of Science Hill firing a coach that wins more games than he loses and has gotten his team to the playoffs 4 of the last 6 years and replacing him with a coach that has had 1 winning season?

I guess it depends on what you use to measure a coach's effectiveness. Is the present coach taking them a little bit further than they should have gone? Is four of the last six years what SH should be doing?

As far as East goes, Is Nelson taking them a little bit further than they should have gone? Of course he has. East should only win a couple of games a season.

One also has to take into consideration what kind of impact a coach can make on the lives of young people aside from winning and going to the playoffs. I am thinking that Nelson can garner a couple of wins a season that SH would not otherwise win, and he will make the kind of committment that might change a young man's life.
