I don't know alot, but I know that Ooltewah will not be a #1 seed after losing tonight. Also Indy will be a 7 or 8 due to being a wild card. I also agree with randy that I don't see MJ anywhere but Quad 2 with the Rutherford Co teams. Who knows what they'll do, but that is the way it looks like it will set up.

  2. 27 qualified

5 Wildcards (Ranking via latest http://www.tssaa.org/footballplayoffs/wildcard.cfm?class=6A web page)

    1) D4-WC Bearden (7-2) - has 5-4 Knoxville Catholic left

    2) D11-WC Independence (6-3) - has 4-5 Ravenwood left

    3) D10-WC Rossview (6-3) - has 8-1 Henry Co left

    4) D12-WC McGavock (6-3) - has 7-2 Hunters Lane left

    5) D14-WC Cordova (5-4) - has 4-5 Bolton left

    ---------------------------------------------

    6) D7-WC Smyrna (5-4) - has 7-2 Oakland left

    7) D11-WC Ravenwood (4-5) - has 6-3 Independence left

    8) D5-WC Bradley Central (4-5) - has 1-8 Walker Valley left

    9) D9-WC Lebanon (4-5) - has 2-7 Station Camp left

    10) D2-WC Jefferson County (4-5) - has 0-9 South Doyle left

    11) D4-WC Heritage (4-5) - has 3-6 Knoxville West left

    12) D6-WC Warren Co (4-5) - has 1-8 Rhea Co left

    13) D5-WC Soddy Daisy (4-5) - has 3-6 Cleveland left

    14) D7-WC Siegel (4-5) - has 3-6 Lavergne left

    15) D14-WC Bolton (4-5) - has 5-4 Cordova left

Some caveats: I am guessing that McGavock loses to Hunters Lane and Overton beats Hillwood so Overton finishes second due to win head-to-head over McGavock.

What happens to above rankings if Cordova and Smyrna lose and all the 4-5 teams win?

Some big ramifications - for example Bolton winning over Cordova doesn't help them with the wins over winning teams because Cordova will drop to 5-5. Ravenwood will get a win over a winning team (Independence) and no other 4-5 team has that chance.

First off it does help if Bolton beats Cordova. The tiebreaker is .500 "OR" better not above .500. If this plays out, it will be interesting, but here is how "I think" it will play out.

In my opinion, it looks like the only 3 teams left with a shot are Cordova, Smyrna and Ravenwood. All of the other tie-breakers just don't add up for the others.

So, if Cordova wins, they are in.

If Cordova loses, it comes down to Smyrna or Ravenwood (believe it or not).

If Siegel wins, Smyrna is in. This would give Smyrna a 2nd (Siegel) and 3rd (Ravenwood) victory over teams .500 or better. Ravenwood would have 3 as well, but the tiebreaker after that would more than likely go to Smyrna. The head-to-head advantage Smyrna has would not matter since there are 3 teams tied.

If Siegel loses, Ravenwood appears to be the team in. They would have 3 victories over teams .500 or better to Smyrna's 2 and Cordova's 1.

Smyrna could end the speculating tomorrow night with a win, giving Oakland a wild card spot and opening up another can of worms for that last spot for teams with 6 wins.

  3. awesome breakdown. We know what you've been doing all weekend. The only other thing I would point out concerning Ravenwood.... If Smyrna loses and Cordova loses and Ravenwood wins they would all be tied with 5 wins. Ravenwood would have 3 wins over teams .500 or better. Smyrna would then have 2 since they beat Ravenwood last week. If Siegel beats Lavergne (very likely), then that would give Smyrna the 3rd win over a team with .500 or better. This would mean Smyrna gets the wildcard.

  4. Smyrna's playoff hopes come down to this game and a loss by another team or two. Oakland thinks they are gonna be on easy street playing them Dawgs, but they best remember that a cornered Dawg is the worst kind of Dawg there is. Another hard fought district game this will be for sure, and my money goes on them cornered Dawgs to pull the upset and keep there dreams alive. No matter what happens this Smyrna team shows why there is still some tweaking to do with this new playoff system TSSAA has set forth. When a team that is 3-5 in a weak District gets a shoe in for playoffs and Smyrna is looking at getting left out coming from the hardest District in 6A and a better record than 3-5. Something is messed up there for sure. Any way go Dawgs show them Pats that ya can never under estimate a Division Team.

Smyrna doesn't need any help to get in if they win this game. This game is for 3rd place in the district.

If Riverdale / Oakland win..... Riverdale, Oakland, Blackman - 1,2,3

If Riverdale / Smyrna win..... Riverdale, Blackman, Smyrna - 1,2,3

If Blackman / Oakland win..... Blackman, Riverdale, Oakland - 1,2,3

If Blackman / Smyrna win..... Blackman, Riverdale, Smyrna - 1,2,3

    So, Blackman could finish 1 2 or 3..... Riverdale, 1 or 2..... Oakland, 2 3 or 4.....Smyrna 2 or 3.

Gonna be a wild 2 nights of District 7AAA football.

  5. The problem with your scnerio is that there are 5 District Champions (Ooltewah, Maryville, Oak Ridge, Sevier and D-:thumb: for 4 home seeds. While I want Ooltewah to play in this bracket because of old rivalrys, I think they are going to face the middle east bracket (Pod) which will be a tough one. As someone state Oakland maybe the #8 seed in that bracket and you talk about a hard 1st round game. That's ok to be the state champion you should have to beat the best teams. So far the Owls have been stopped by those Murfreesboro teams and we are going to have to learn to beat them. Hopefully this will be the year the Owls get over the hump. First we have to get by Cleveland and McMinn.

    Go Owls

There are only 3 district champions there right now. Ooltewah, Maryville, and Sevier County, and if Oak Ridge beats Clinton that would make a fourth. I'm not sure where anybody can be getting a 5th district champion. DB is currently 4th, Farragut and McMinn are 2nd, and Bearden is 3rd.

  6. I did this for 3A and 4A, so I figured I would let you guys discuss some of these match-ups. Remember geography and no 1st round district rematches.

    Quad 1

    1. Ooltewah

    8. Bearden

    4. Oak Ridge

    5. Dobyns-Bennett

    3. Maryville

    7. McMinn County

    2. Sevier Co.

    7. Farragut

    What about this:

    1. Ooletwah (8-0) 1st place in district, tiebreakers over Sevier County and Maryville

    8 Bearden (WC)

4 Farragut (6-2) 2nd place in district, has a tiebreaker over both McMinn County and Oak Ridge

    5. McMinn Co. (6-2) 2nd in district, has a tiebreaker over Oak Ridge

    3 Maryville (7-1) 1st place in district

6 Oak Ridge (6-2) 2nd place in district

    2. Sevier County (8-0) 1st place in district, tiebreaker over Maryville

    7. Dobyns-Bennett (3-5) currently in the top half of their subdivision and has priority of Bearden

This bracket is incorrect. Oak Ridge is the #1 6A team in their district and that makes them a #1 seed and that is the same for Dobyns Bennett. Not to sound like a pompous jerk, but my bracket is right. I know this stuff pretty well, maybe better than the TSSAA.

I hate to tell you Gerry, but he is right.

"After teams from the same district have been separated, placements are then arranged with priorities given to automatic qualifiers. Teams finishing 1st in their district will receive highest priority. Teams finishing 2nd in their district will receive second priority. Teams not finishing 1st or 2nd in their district but finishing in the top half of their subdivision will be given third priority, followed by wild card qualifiers."

Depending on how it shakes out... Ooltewah, Sevier Co, and Maryville would be the first 3 seeds in some order. Then, looking at 2nd place teams, Oak Ridge, McMinn Co, and Farragut would be seeds 4-6 in some order. Then, DB would be 7th by being the top half of 6A in their district and Bearden would be 8th as a wild card.

This is where it could get scary for some teams. Take 7AAA for example. There is a good chance that either Smyrna or Oakland will get a wild card likely making them a 7 or 8 seed. Would you like that draw if you were a 1 or 2?

  7. Why do you guys keep putting MJ going west? My understanding districts 1-8 will go east and districts 9-16 will go west. If either side has an opening, then wild cards will be placed in those slots. Funny, but tht is what we are getting. Last, why is Oakland a 8th seed? The worst team in the Quad is coffee co. If there is going to be seeds (then seed them correctly).

You are incorrect. The 32 teams will be decided first. Once the 32 teams are decided they will start in the East and put the field into 4 eight team quads. So no one is promised to go one way or the other it depends on who makes it from where. Once they divide the quads, they will be begin ranking the teams. They will start with # 1 district seeds and rank them, they will then move onto # 2 district seeds, then any # 3 district seeds, then the wildcards.

The reason Oakland is the # 8 team is that they are the # 3 seed from their district in a quad with no wildcards. They don't go by record until they divide them by their seed.

I think both of you are not quite right.....but I'm not sure anybody (TSSAA included) knows exactly what is going on. Here's my attempt. You are right (I think) that seeding will be done geographically. MJ, we are actually putting the Bears going East. It's just the way they fall on the map.

Gerry, we disagree on the seeding process. It was my understanding that only district winners were "guaranteed" a home game. In your scenario, I don't think there is a snowballs chance that Franklin County gets a home game. They are going to finish 5th in their district. There is no way they are getting a 3 seed and a home game while Oakland goes on the road with an 8 seed.

  8. Smyrna wins a close one! Good luck to both! :roflol:

"Close one" don't think so. 32-8....2 safeties and Lavergne scored their td in the 4th qtr I believe.

It was great to see the defense get back on track after two slipups giving up a 14 point lead and a 20 point lead against Ensworth and Riverdale. Take care of business against Ravenwood, and gear up for a playoff game in week 10.

  9. A friend point out my error in my ways

    Right now it is

    Riverdale 4-0

    Blackman 3-1

    Oakland 3-1

    Smyrna 2-2

    Lavergne 0-4

    Siegel 0-4

in week 10 Riverdale plays Blackman, Oakland plays Smyrna and Siegel plays Lavergne

    What happens if

    a) Riverdale beats Blackman

    :roflol: Smyrna beats Oakland

    then you have

    1) Riverdale 5-0

    2) Blackman 3-2 or Oakland 3-2 or Smyrna 3-2

3 teams tied for 2 spots!

and each went 1-1 against the others

overall record? Oakland and Smyrna both lost to Ensworth in OT. Blackman didn't play Ensworth

    Blackman's out of district games:

    (5A) Tullahoma (4-4) W 52-0

    Lincoln Co (1-7) W 41-0

    (5A) Cane Ridge (0-8) W 48-0

    (5A) Station Camp (2-6) W 45-10

    Brentwood (7-1)

Blackman played 3 of 5 games against 5A schools - teams have a combined record of 14-26 (.350)

    Brentwood game huge!

    Oakland's:

    Ensworth (7-0) L 20-22 OT

    Independence (5-3) W 27-9

    Brentwood (7-1) W 27-7

    Lincoln Co (1-7) W 52-7

    Christian (6-2) Co KY

Oakland has given Brentwood their only loss - Blackman could give Brentwood their second this week.

Teams have combined record of 26-13 (.667)

    Smyrna's:

    (5A) Beech (6-2) W 21-0

    Brentwood (7-1) L 6-27

    Centennial (1-7) W 48-0

    Ensworth (7-0) L 34-36 OT

    Ravenwood (4-4)

Smyrna lost to Brentwood - Played 1 5A team - teams have combined record of 25-14 (.641)

So IF Blackman beats Brentwood, Oakland beats Christian Co and Smyrna beats Ravenwood they finish:

Blackman 5-0 - win over 2-loss Brentwood but overall losing record of opponents

Oakland 4-1 - win over 2-loss Brentwood and a narrow loss to 7-0 Ensworth

Smyrna 3-2 - loss to 2-loss Brentwood and narrow loss to 7-0 Ensworth

    So WHO finishes 2nd, 3rd and 4th????

If your scenario plays out it would be Blackman 2nd, Smyrna 3rd, and Oakland 4th. First tiebraker would be total victories. Blackman would have 8, Oakland 7, Smyrna 6. That would decide 2nd place. Then you start all over with Oakland and Smyrna. In this scenario Smyrna has the head-to-head giving them 3rd and Oakland 4th.

Not to fret Oakland fans, if they win this week, they will get a wild card if they finish 4th in the district. 7-3 will almost be guaranteed a wild card spot. This would give District 7 4 teams in the playoffs and the other 28 teams headaches. I think they would rather see a wild card spot be given to a Warren or Bradley County -type team (no offense) instead of an Oakland or Smyrna.

Smyrna's offense has looked like it has found some rythym and just in the nick of time. Should be an interesting 2 weeks, and more importantly week 10.

  10. How is Soddy-Daisy out of 5-AAA left out instead of Bradley Central? SD is 2-1 in district play versus BC's 2-2 and lost to SD head-to-head?

District 5 only has 2 spots and "right now" Ooltewah and McMinn currently hold those spots. Everything else is subject to wildcards. Bradley has 4 wins versus Soddy Daisy's 3. Overall victories is the first criteria they are looking at in determining wild cards. 3 weeks of football left to sort everything out.

Being a Memphis guy naturally my focus was on quad 4. I couldn't help but notice that you entered White Station twice and left out Germantown. Just thought I'd point that out and let you redo quad 4.

Also ... Millington and Arlington are both in District 14. I wouldn't think that Kirby would be listed because of their current record. Perhaps you meant to put somebody else?

Actually, right now, Kirby is in. District 15 has 6 6A teams giving them 3 in. Germantown and Wooddale are the obvious first 2. The next two (Kirby and Southwind) are 2-2 in district and the last two are 1-3 in district. Kirby's win over Southwind gives them the edge right now. The last 3 games are all district games for all 4 teams, so lots can happen.

I could be wrong, but the way I read it as it stands right now, Soddy Daisy and Bradley Central are not in. You left out Nashville Overton and Lebanon who should be in those 2 wild card spots. 3 weeks to play so a lot of football and position flipping left.

  13. If I'm wrong it wouldn't be the 1st time. Not really that big of a deal. I'm just going by what has been released to the press after the TSSAA figure out that the way they originally had it they had more qualifiers than playoff spots in 5-A and I think 3-A as well.

If that scenario plays out (which it probably won't) they take the 2nd place teams from those districts and apply the tiebreaker rules in order to get the 32 teams.... Bottom line is if you finish in the top half of your division in your district, you go to the playoffs. If you finish 2nd, you are more than likely in.

  14. I hope I am not right because 7AAA deserves 4 teams in, but I hope scheduling Ensworth doesn't hurt Oakland and/or Smyrna. That would be ashame. You would think overtime losses would account for something in this system.

Afraid that may be the case - no halfpoints or credit like hockey gets. In the NFL, NCAA and High School, a loss is a loss, OT or not - just ask the Cleveland Browns after last week.....

Oakland has Blackman and Smyrna left

Smyrna has Lavergne and Oakland left

It may come down to the Oakland-Smyrna game deciding a playoff spot?

Blackman has games with Oakland and Riverdale left

    Riverdale has siegel and Blackman

    What happens if

    a) Riverdale beats Blackman and finishes 5-0 or 4-1 and Oakland, Blackman and Smyrna all finish 3-2 ???

All that has to happen is that Blackman loses to Oakland, Riverdale beats Blackman and Smyrna

    beats Lavergne and Oakland

(the reason I didn't pick Riverdale for this exercise is that if we finish 3-2 we will still have wins over both a 3-2 Oakland and a 3-2 Smyrna)

Oakland will have beaten Blackman but lost to Smyrna

Smyrna will have lost to Blackman but beaten Oakland

Blackman will have beaten Smyrna and lost to Oakland

The overall records may be the factor - and those Overtime losses may come back to haunt.....

I am pretty sure some other districts are in this same situation...

With that scenario playing out, Smyrna would be the odd man out due to overall record. The best way I see it is for Blackman to beat either Riverdale or Oakland making Riverdale - Blackman 1,2. Then, assuming Smyrna takes care of Lavergne, the Smyrna/Oakland game is for the 3rd spot.

Best case for region 7 is for Smyrna to beat Oakland, likely giving 7-3 Oakland a wildcard making it 4 teams from the region in. If Smyrna loses, they would be 5-5 with no shot at a wildcard.

  15. That's my thought exactly, a 3 way tie for 2nd would be crazy. And overall record is not a very good way to break that tie. Ensworth > Tullahoma, Brentwood > Cane Ridge....I'll start paying more attention after week 8

That is the main problem with this. You have teams that tie for 2nd in the district when 3rd place goes, and somebody is sitting home. To think that losing in overtime to the #70 team in the nation makes you sit at home and a team that NEVER got tested out of district could go over them. You will see this blueprint followed from now on. The stronger teams will not be able to fill out their schedule due to people wanting to schedule creampuffs to pad their win/loss totals.

For that to happen, Smyrna has to win out and Blackman has to lose out in district. We'll know more after next Friday, but probably won't be decided until week 10.

  16. I don't think it is even close. I'm sure the other kids are good, but the Darkwa kid from Ensworth is an absolute beast. He goes for 350 against MBA, 250 against McAllie, and another 300 against Smyrna (he didn't play the entire 3rd quarter). That's pretty good competition. He's pretty much the main weapon they have, and people key on him, but he still makes them look silly. Good size, good speed, great back. Others that we have seen are the Coffey(sp) kid from Brentwood, and the Howse kid from Siegel....both big backs that run behind their pads and churn yards.

  17. I dont believe this for a second. This just reeks of ego. There may not be a guy who does things more by the book than Coach A, . It just so happens that these supposed allegiations coincide with the end of DeVinner's association with Riverdale, or however that you want to put it. I have not exactly kept up with who Mr. DeVinner associates himself with, but it is obvious that any program associating themselves with this man will become a target in this inquiry as well.

I would like to see the charges, in detail, brought against Riverdale. DeVinner is a pretty gullible fella if it took him 3 years to put together kids he was talking to and their skill level as it pertains to the football field, and obviously, he isnt very good at his job, given Riverdale's slow decline from 2006 to 2008.

I obviously do not go to bat for Riverdale too often, but unless these allegations are proved to be true, Ill never belief that Coach A and his staff willingly made a deliberate attempt to recruit kids for the sole purpose of the success for their program.

I hate to tell you, but he is now associated with Oakland football. This whole story just stinks of sour grapes and egos gone wild.

  18. I don't have a dog in the race, but it seems to me that if you have a freshmen starting on varsity that is the furthest thing to "treating him like garbage." It sounds like you have a prima donna who thinks they are better and bigger than the team. You guys have played one game. Relax and let the coach do the coaching.

  19. Can someone give me a scouting report on #74 Antonio Richardson...I am former MP graduate and I try to keep up with some of the guys that played for Mt. Pleasant...Richardson is a transfer from MP to Ensworth...Does he play LT/RT on offense and DT on defense or just one or the other? Was he dominant in this game? Could anyone get around him? I remember seeing this kid play as a freshman for a good MP team and there was nobody who could block him! I think his stock is going to go nowhere but up the more people see him play...I would almost bet you are going to see him rated as a 4 or 5 * guy on these recruiting boards!

    Thanks to any who reply!

He lined up at RT on offense I believe. With his frame and now higher profiled school and coach he will definately get a look from colleges. He needs to learn a little leverage and hit the weight room to be an elite prospect next year. I think Coach Bowers can get that done.

"Now one thing I do think Coach Mc does need to do that he does have control of.....is to restrain his antics on the sidelines a bit."

I couldn't agree more. I know he's a young guy, but you have to know time and place. I understand he was upset, but he looked like a little tazmanian devil over there. You have to realize that #1 you are on tv (not that it is ok any other time) and #2 - you are a representative for your school. Acting like a 3 year old that had his lollipop taken from him is not the best way to represent a State Championship program. On a side note, I was kinda hoping that they wouldn't convert for the 1st down in order to see the complete melt down.

  20. KCHS is taking their entire team and staff out of state for padded scrimmages and practices. Is that even legal?

If they are doing it now, I wouldn't see how that is legal. If it is after full pad practice opens at the end of July, then yes it is legal.

  21. I met him when he was working at a pizza place near StoneCrest and thought he was a nice kid. I couldn't believe the charges when I heard them. However...didn't that bust happen because of not only the bad judgement of playing around with things like gunpower in front of little kids present...but put a photo of those type things on a "my space" page for the world to see??? If that's how it went down (as some reports indicated) - there was no way anybody could stop it from hitting the news even if they had wanted to.

    On the other hand...

This article doesn't say contact the police with information of the vandalism. It says THE SCHOOL is looking for information about it.

    As does this one.

    http://www.tennessean.com/article/20090509...ield+vandalized

This one says no security camera in the area. Lots at other parts of the school though. Doesn't say to contact the police with information either.

Murder cases have been solved faster.

They tried to steal the athletic "gator" utility vehicle. Would that not have left fingerprints? They tried to break into the concession stands. That would leave additional evidence, would it not? With all the things they did, look at the amount of time the vandals must have been out there. And five weeks later - nothing.

When the mugshots are on 2, 4, 5, 17 and in the Tennessean and DNJ - then the public will know beyond any doubt that the effort was really made to solve this fairly simple, uncomplicated crime.

I did some inquiring to a couple of people and here is what is going around. The administration had some strong suspicions on who was responsible. Authorities were called and there was an investigation. Apparantly, nobody was talking and no concrete evidence was uncovered. They said that the alibis given were good enough to not be able to do anything further. Somebody will slip up and talk eventually, but until then it appears that nothing is going to happen. It's ridiculous that these punks are apparantly going to get away with it...for now.
