  1. Though SBA has some talented individuals in their lineup which should make for interesting matches this evening, my money is on the team that has won the last 12 region titles.

I think your bet is well placed. I SBA has some good wrestlers, my favorite being Lamer, but the Brothers have a strong group.

  4. What tournaments are open to people who have graduated???

You should try one of the NAGA events. It is submission wrestling and Jujitsu. I saw several high school wrestlers at the one that was held in Nashville last fall. http://nagafighter.com/

In Memphis Urban Kickboxing host the MAGC grappling tournament usually about twice per year.

EGO Extreme Grappling Open http://extremegrapplingopen.com/ has tournaments in Nashville and throughout the middle US.

Living Defense Martial Arts host BJJ/grappling tournaments in Little Rock Ark.

  5. NAGA just held a submission wrestling/BJJ meet in Nashville. I saw a number of HS wrestlers competing. It as almost as safe as wrestling for HS athletes.

MMA is different. Getting punched in the face while trying to set up a wrestling move changes the equation drastically. Also, some of the injuries, cuts, and broken bones would be unacceptable to parents. I personally don't think MMA is a sport for minors. There's plenty of time after they turn 18 if they are interested.

  6. The two west tn preseasons have concluded and i think that they went fairly well. There were a lot of great matchups in both DI and DII. Lets hear some things you saw and liked about it and who you see going far and who you see dropping like flies!!!

There were many good matches this weekend. It thought Cordova looked good. You did a good job in the finals lots of slick moves against a quick strong opponent. You going to Black Horse?

  7. On the issue of second place state finishers not getting in to Premier League, I think the real truth of rule changes every year is the state organization was favoring teams and the rules a modified to benefit the favored teams. The real disservice is to the kids on the the teams did not get a chance to play in front of the college coaches that attend the premier league games. Looking at both Lobo teams that were excluded they have defeated numerous state champions and teams that play in the Premier League. Why TSSA refused to step up to the plate and either send three teams or the top two finishers to the Premier League is beyond me.

  8. Coach David Wolff at Houston High. He was a first year head coach. He revamped the style of play and the team made a great leap in quality of play from the start to the end of the year. If not for a Siegel goal with 4.9 second left in the quarter finals Houston may have had the Cinderella year that Siegel had.
