Wow! That's a big half time score.
Not really surprised by the 28 points from Grace, but 24 from CCS??
Has CCS thrown a pass yet?
-
Grace by 28.
CCS has never been able to stop their passing game.

No Jefferey Watkins or Jacob Brigman.....
Booger just sayin
Selection process is a joke.
Watkins was the best RB in the EAST and Brigman the best O-Lineman.
I assume the team record had something to do with it.

I would never bet against DeAngelo Hardy (McCallie QB) ... he is a winner!
It's my opinion that he will find a way to win one more.
... and he certainly did!
MVP!!
The whole team played great ... especially the D-Line.
Congrats to McCallie!

DeAngelo's effectiveness will be helped tremendously if BJ Harris is able to play. Also, DeAngelo needs to value the football a little better.
The hardest thing is beating the same team twice in the same season.
Watch out for Eric Rivers in the passing game. He has become quite a weapon.
The fact that McCallie beat Ensworth without their main running back speaks volumes about the kid who lead them to victory. Do you actually think they would have won if DeAngelo missed the game and Harris played?
I don't think McCallie has played MBA this season so beating them twice is not an issue.
Eric Rivers has certainly been an added benefit this season, but the main man in McCallie's offense has been DeAngelo Hardy.
Delo showed everybody last week why he should have been a finalist for the Mr Football award ... and he's not through proving that fact.

I agree with your initial assessment that the CCS O line was the biggest difference. It is counter intuitive when you look at the stats in the two games, but CAK was actually able to move the ball somewhat. It didn't translate to points, and the CCS D line was superior, but the real difference (IMO) was that CCS was able to enforce their will on CAK's D line. CAK would make a play or two, and then it didn't matter as CCS would go for 20. Generally CAK was a very physical team this year, but CCS was substantially stronger on the lines. They were flat out the better team. Perhaps some of that may relate to the fact that CAK only had 5 seniors (one was a great kicker but not on the field on every play) and another missed the season except 2 plays that I counted. Not sure how many older kids were on the CCS team, but just giving the eye test, CCS was visibly bigger and stonger in the lines.
CCS is losing 12 seniors.
6 starters on defense - 5 starters on offense.
4 of the 5 starters on offense is on the line - plus the tall receiver #19 ... all of the offensive backs will return except #10, who is the 4th back on offense and is probably our most aggressive player on defense.

We only had about 8 seniors but most were major contributors. I think we have 21 rising freshmen. The future is bright. Thanks for the kind words. Looking forward to playing you guys again next season.
The future is definitely bright at Boyd-Buchanan.
I've never met the Boyd coach, but I love what he is doing there. He got the kids to believe in themselves ... then he set the schedule up in a way that they could get a few easy wins ... by then, the confidence rolled over into region play ... he provided positive reinforcement the entire way - and still is by promoting his QB for the Mr football award.
I plan on attending several Boyd games next year.

Congratulations to CCS. They were truly the better team. This was my least favorite match up for CAK in round 1. CCS is a very good team, and it will take a good team to knock them out.
For CAK, congratulations on a fine season and especially to the 5 seniors on this year's team. You've made Friday nights a lot of fun for many of us! Best wishes with your future plans.
Next year looks bright with CAK only losing 5 players, and a LOT of playmakers coming back. On paper at least, next year is more likely to make a run than this year. I'm very proud of what the Warriors achieved this year. Only one game did they lose that I believe they should have won. The other two losses were to a better team (both CCS). Just too strong on the O and D lines.
Best of luck to CCS the rest of the way. They played with class and represented their school very well in their play and their sportsmanship.
CCS played their best game of the year against CAK Friday night. They ran for over 400 yards and just about everything went the CCS way.
Congratulations to CAK on a very successful season. I think you were right all along when you said that CCS was not a good matchup for CAK.
For whatever reason (honestly, I don't know why), CAK only scored a total of 13 points in 2 games against CCS, which is way below the CAK average on the season. Based on that, one would think that the CCS defense was what CAK struggled with ... on the surface, I would have thought the offensive line would be where the CCS advantage was.
For CCS, it's now on to CPA, where they will be big underdogs.

Very interesting that GCA (Knox Grace), who beat Boyd Buchanan 50-7 last Friday, would rematch with Boyd if both advance to the quarterfinals.
First Round
E1 Knox Grace over M5 Goodpasture
E3 Boyd Buchanan over M4 Lipscomb
M1 CPA over E5 Knox Webb
E4 CAK over E2 Chattanooga Christian
-
W1 ECS over W6 Harding Academy
M3 BGA over W3 FACS (home game for BGA)
M2 FRA over W5 Northpoint Christian
W2 Lausanne over W4 St. George's
Quarterfinals
E1 Knox Grace over E3 Boyd Buchanan
E4 CAK over M1 CPA
-
W1 ECS over M3 BGA
M2 FRA over W2 Lausanne
Semifinals
E1 Knox Grace over E4 CAK (avenging CAK's regular-season win)
W1 ECS over M2 FRA
Championship Game
W1 ECS 24, E1 Knox Grace 10So you must think Knox Grace would beat Lipscomb by worse than 50-7

I agree to a point but keep on mind CCS hasn't been in the arms race that long . Where do you think McCallie's star QB and DE come from ? Definitely not from any of the mountains surrounding our lovely city . It all boils down to inner city recruiting.
They are both good examples of what I'm talking about.
The QB chose McCallie and the DE chose Baylor and when Baylor didn't work out, he finished the school year at Tyner then ended up at McCallie the next year.
Do you think either of them considered any other private school besides Baylor or McCallie? They were in the cream of the crop group I referred to.

While CCS lacks the prestige of Baylor or McCallie (whatever that's worth) they can recruit inner city Chattanooga and be just as competitive.
Uh ... have you been to any of the CCS vs. Baylor/McCallie games the last 3 years?
One word ... Brutal.

Wish them all the best after next season. They’re going to need it when they make the jump to DII-AAA. That will take a while to get up to speed with those schools from where they are now. No disrespect intended with those comments. It would be hard for any school in DII-AA East Region to make that move up.
Bottom line ... CCS will never be able to compete with Baylor & McCallie in football.
Both of those schools get the cream of the crop in the Chattanooga area. They have the facilities and prestige that every parent wants for their kid. And if the kid is good enough, they won't have to pay very much at all - if anything.
Then when you add the fact that they have border athletes and can get players from all over the place ... how is CCS supposed to compete with that? I could be wrong, but I don't believe it will ever happen.
Now in other sports ... maybe CCS can occasionally win. For example, the CCS basketball team beat a very good Baylor team last year, but it only takes about 7-8 good basketball players to be competitive ... unlike football, which requires many more.

Did #6 make it back for you guys? He left on crutches during the 1st half of the GCA game.
He did not play, but probably could have. I think he'll be ready next week.

I can see why people MIGHT think CCS is favored in this game:
- CCS has home field advantage
- CCS has a 3 game winning steak over CAK
- CCS is the 2 seed & CAK is the 4 seed
BUT ... had CAK not blown a 31 point lead over Boyd, CAK would be the #1 seed, would have a home field advantage over Goodpasture, and be favored to win in the 1st round.
As I said after about week 4, Grace is a lot better than everyone else in the East and the other 4 teams are about even.
This game could go either way.

Nice article in the Chattanooga paper today on the Boyd football team. It really has been an amazing turnaround over last year.
They have had some real easy games on their schedule, but you have to give them credit, they've beat some solid teams in Webb & CAK.
But starting tonight, every game remaining will be tough. The 3 seed in the East is going to have a hard game in the 1st round ... most likely, it will be the loser of this game (with a small chance it could be CCS).
Boyd will have to put pressure on the Grace QB ... how successful they are at that will determine if this game is close or not.
Pulling for the Boyd seniors ... you guys are champions either way.

3 way tie at the top of the region with the Bucs, Grace, and CCS all tied. Week 10 is massive. Who wins?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only way Boyd gets the #1 is if:
- Boyd beats Grace
- Silverdale beats CCS
Since I know you guys would never pull for Silverdale, I guess you're playing for the #2?

I don't fully understand all of the tie breakers, but I know CCS wins a head-to-head tie break against both Boyd & CAK ... not sure about a 3 way tie.
Webb would have to beat CCS AND CAK in order to pass CCS (assuming CCS can beat Silverdale).

If "MP" is who I think it is, isn't he the one who hired the coach directly AFTER Reynolds left?
I believe they went 0-10 and got mercy ruled in every game.
