  1. I know at Halls we always had the 8 graders come and lift after school from Janruary till spring practice started. They did not practice just lifted. Maybe they were allowed because we were all together - the middle school sit next to the high school only divided by a little alley.

  2. Don Ward did a great job with the offense for the past 3 years. A good coach and even better man. Does anyone know if it is health related? I remember back a few years ago he had some type of health problem. I certainly hope it is just wanted to sit back and enjoy life and not something that is serious.

  3. Leon Daugherty taught Historey at Halls HS in the late 90's unless I am totally off base and their are 2 Leon Daugherty's that coached in Knox Co. Left and went to Bearden with Coach Young. I did not mean to question anyone's character particular any of these 3 men. I'm not that old but I have heard many good things about Coaches Young and Maynard. I know both of them had HC experience. I don't think Coach Daugherty had ever been a HC, and I have not heard any negative comments about him.

My "good old boy" comment stems from coaches in this system that seem to reappear and take a job and hire older experienced coaches to come and coach with them, then suddenly retire. More often then not they go to a private school and draw retirement and a full salary from the privates and coach with a good old boy that has dune the same thing. You have to admit a lot of this has happened over the years. AND NOT ALL OF IT HAS BEEN BAD EITHER!!!!

  4. Is the Leon Daugherty you were talking about the same one that coached and taught at Halls back in the 90's? What qualifications would he have over this new guy? Has he ever been a Head Coach? Sounds to me like the "good old boys" took a beating on this hire! Give this man time to prove he is worth his salt. Sounds like he is young enough to provide energy for a new program.

    Good luck coach!

  5. I have heard the folks from Maryville and Sevier County talking. I can't say that these things are definitely going to take place but it seems the controlling bosses of T$$AA are moving in that direction.

I then asked if they were talking about Ronnie Carter and his brotherhood of screw-ups? I was told it was the people that were Ronnis Carter 's boss. Some kind of Board and Council. Sorry that I dont really remember. I will try to find out Monday.

  6. What are you hearing about this urban and rural deal the T$$AA are talking about? From what people have told me Anderson County, Kingston and Loudon will be 2A. AE, Gibbs, Carter, Alcoa, Catholic, Fulton will be 3A. All of the rest in the Knoxville area will be 4A.

If that is true then the Red Devils will be playing Maryville, Farragut, Oak Ridge, etc. Don't know bout ya'll, but in my opinion that stinks a big one.

  7. I just can't understand why the T$$AA would want to go back to 3 classes or even go to 4 classes. The means less money for their wallet.

If the T$$AA is really for the kids...go 5 classes in every sport. Maybe you couldn't do it in every sport, but I would be willing to bet you could do it in basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and keeping it in football. You could do it in all sports if you really wanted to. Doesn't Alabama and Georgia do the same thing?

  8. Runkle,

Who gives a poot about Maryville (in another county) or Catholic (private school). Farragut does what they want anyway with all of there high pocket money people.

    jjwsiv,

I luv what you said. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a Red Devil thru and thru, but I like hearing someone with some guts (sp) telling people what they can do with there mouth!!

  9. kevb1990,

Like I said earlier, "I have nothing against Coach Conley". When I said the good old boys, I was talking about takin so dang much time and then hiring someone right down the hall! You look at and interview a number of candidates, this hire could have been done long before Christmas allowing Coach Conley all of January and February to work with his team and all of them knowing who the HC was going to be!

  10. I've waited a while before posting my comments. I wait no longer...some things just never change, the good old boys are at it again. Nothing against Coach Conley, but if he is the best choice, why in heavens name did it take so long to name him as the head man?

Personally, I think Coach Qualls or Hassell would have been a better choice than staying in house.

  11. I like your idea, but the Maryville person that is tight with Ronnie Carter would never let Maryville go to 5A.

Here is a thought to ponder...TN. has 320+/- football playing schools AND 370+/- schools that play basketball and or baseball. My question is why in the heck do we have 5 classes in football and NOT have 5 classes in the other sports such as basketball, baseball, softball and soccer? I'll even go a step furthur, WHY CAN WE HAVE 5 CLASSES IN EVERY SPORT IN THE T$$AA?

  12. As I understand the new rules TSSAA put in last year, football coaches can't do anything with there players during the whole month of June except lift and condition. They can't do passing leagues or practice running pass plays nothing involving a football. In the spring they can't have open facilities casue if they do the TSSAA will contact them and tell them they just started spring practice.

Baseball coaches and basketball caoches can take there kids to the gym or the batting cage and watch them practice there shots or swings.

I don't think a football coach can take his players outside in full gear and watch them practice there tackling.

Now I aint the brightest light in the chandalier but that is fair to me!

  13. CoachF,

As I'm not from Middle Tenn and I don't know about a lot of the goings on, I do remember a post prolly 3-4 weeks ago about comparing two coaches from the Nashville area. I think one of them was Coach Anderson. I only say that because I think the post said something about him closing in on 1000 w's. Can't remember the other coaches name, but is he still in the tournament?
