What's up Big Bunn??????
-
My, my, my. We have definitely got some ruffled feathers in this thread. I know testosterone can be a dangerous thing for some people, so some of you better let off some steam before this weekend or someone will shoot their eye out!

I hate to say it, but with that new stadium on the river, we will still take the 'ol backseat when it comes to football.
-
Most of our state placers were seniors last year. We still have Brugal, Leavy Davis of Westside, and a couple of others. Why do you say that's sad, soddydad? Because we haven't had the feeder programs like you've had? When our guys make it to the state tournament (16 man bracket, unlike yours) they only have between 3-5 years of experience, as Chattanooga area wrestlers often double that. We are working very hard to develop our feeder programs and in the very near future you will be eating those words.
-
Brugal has had mono for the past few weeks. I do believe that he will be at Regions.
-
I was the assistant coach for Warren County when they qualified the first girl for TN state tournament. Her name is Andi Jones and she now wrestles for Missouri Valley. It was in the 96-97 season when she placed 4th in Region 5. She would have had a good showing at state if it were not for her draw. She had Matt McCarty in the first round and Shawn Weller (Baylor) in the second. That's some pretty tough competition, especially for a "girl." And yes, she was the homecoming queen and also played soccer.
-
Zach Borneman no longer wrestles for Rutgers.
-
Too bad I taught you everything you know! Good to see you on here!
-
Castleman supposedly went to West Virginia, but did not wrestle.

Kyle James got pinned....so what? Nobody on this message board can say that they haven't been pinned. The kid is a great wrestler and he got put on his back, what's the big deal? Did anyone see the NCAA's when Josh Lambrecht was KILLING his guy in the finals and then got pinned with the 'ol cement mixer. Good wrestlers get pinned, so why is everyone harping about this young man losing? Do you not think that he has heard about it enough or went through the match a million times in his head? Leave the kid alone and let him put it behind him.

Dist 15: Westside, Bartlett, or Bolton
Dist 16: Collierville, Ridgeway, or Houston
-
I have BEGGED to get in the tournament and it is said to be always full.
-
Luke, my boy, not a chance. Collierville has a lot of good wrestlers, but Hammond, Claney, and Hunt can only score so many points. It will be surprising how things will stack up this year.
-
D2 is CBHS by far. D1 region 8 will be up for grabs between Collierville, Ridgeway, Houston, Westside, and Bartlett.
-
Jonas Gibbs of Ridgeway will be one to watch in the future. He held his own with Manson and Dunning in middle school and is working extremely hard as a freshman. He's not yet in the class of Manson, Dunning, or the Cleveland kid, but could very well be on his way!
-
I saw Manson as a soon to be 8th grader at UTC camp and you could tell then that this kid has what it takes to be great. Manson, Dunning, and Coleman are all great, but I would give Manson the edge.
-
Anthony Evans of Westside has been wrestling like a beast!
-
Yes, the Bradley kid is tough as nails. Tim Freel isn't bad, either. People are blowing him off because of state last year.
Also, don't forget about Leavy Davis. He's already a 2 time placer and has something to prove after last year's loss to Breck Still. Other surprises at 189 will be Denver Moore of Ridgeway and Stewart Schay of Houston. 189 is not as weak as it seems, e.g. 171 last year.
-
Wow! Great post by Tom Marable! The crazy thing is....he's right. West Tennessee has just begun to develop a good middle school program and Walt Holmes, Mike Simpson, Jose Delgado, Tony Bradley, and others are making sure that our guys keep up well with the freestyle competition. In D1, Region 8 has finished fourth the past two years in state placers per region. Obviously the lack of feeder programs has caused the gap between west TN and the rest of the state. But be rest assured, it is changing in a hurry. We are developing the youngsters and they ARE developing top notch technique skills.
-
Congrats on your state championship! Which ones did you meet? We had graduation last night, so a couple of them are done.
-
How can you call Giansante a no namer? I bet Casey Cothron remembers his name! Giansante controlled the whole match. He placed 3rd his sophomore year and won it his senior, far from being a no namer. He currently is doing very well at MTSU and has a lot to do with some of the recent success of Smyrna.

Brian Larimer and Ethan Elzen from Overton weren't bad.
Most memorable match
in Wrestling Mat
Posted
Empro, you hit the nail right on the head! The ref (Jack Gallagher) did everything he could to keep Anthony Evans from winning the match. The offensive ratio was actually 16-2. Evans took 16 shots and got called for stalling? You've got to be kidding me. The warning for stalling was a joke and to award a point with 5 seconds left and Evans being more aggressive than Bonham, was ridiculous! Evans kept his composure and began the overtime period. He ran Bonham around the mat and nothing was done to Bonham. Evans locks up the side-cradle and the ref awards two points. Evans again gets a raw deal when the ref said he didn't have control. Why would you award two points if there was no control? Why not wait until you are absolutely sure (being that he has a cradle locked up.) And guess what? Evans had the cradle voided out and start again on his feet. At the start of double OT, Evans gets his escape for the win. What an act of composure by a high school student! Evans never complained or questioned any of the calls, he just kept wrestling hard and got what he deserved....a state championship.
