  1. Thanks ANIMAL for posting it. SH could have just as easily had 8 champions as opposed to 6 but you know how it goes ... you win some ... you lose some. Additionally, there were a few who didn't make the wrestle-offs that could probably have earned their way to state too if given the opportunity.

Good luck to all 13 Toppers at State!

  2. Jeff County took 13 in 1997-had Scott Fandetti lived, it would have been fourteen as he would have gone 119 and pushed Waylon Lowe down to 112. We had a really good 112 pounder that year in Nathan Cate. He would have placed, but it was just too difficult for him to hold the weight. He wrestled 130 the next year; in today's erea there would have been no way he would have been allowed to go 112. He would never have passed hydration or the fat test.

Science Hill took 12 in 2002 and 2003.

As large as the region has become, SHHS qualifying all 14 will take a great effort and a bit of luck.

Unless Farrace, Brimer, Hollowell, or Hooban had a team that took 14, I don't think it has been done, especially in the new configuration.

By the way, congratulations to Tony Farrace who on Saturday was inducted into the Science Hill Sports Hall of Fame.

Was anything written anywhere about Ferrace's induction? I didn't see anything in the paper nor on the website.

  3. By and large the NC folks have been very complimentary of the tournament, the talent, and in particular CBHS. Nothing out of line that I have seen. People can check out what they have to say at http://www.ncwrestlingscoutreport.com/f ... =7&t=11297.

Most have been very complimentary, however there are a few on two different threads making excuses and saying that Parkland would win comfortably in a dual meet. Hence you will see a long post from me there answering a few questions and stating an opinion on how the dual would have gone down hypothetically.

How about links to those forums. I'd like to read what they have to say too.

  4. Lou Hoban Morristown East held the most wins in Region 1 when he retired in late 90s. was passed by Coach Brimer before his retirement. Coach Price at SHHS is probably up there close to Coach Brimer if not more. Anybody have any actual states on this?

Jeff Price received his 400th win last night with his 61-10 win over Dobyns-Bennett.

  5. From what I understand Adam Mann is out with an injury. Austin sounds strong though.

The meet will be a tri on Thursday including South. This is the first of 3 days at Freedom Hall. Skip Friday for a moment...

The 10th Annual Fandetti-Richardson Brawl is on Saturday with 17 teams representing 6 states. There will be some very tough competition with a lot of state level wrestlers involved. The girls will be wrestling as well.

On Friday evening, there will be a quad with SH wrestling a tough Hewitt-Trussville (AL) and Greenback. Christian Brothers will wrestle them as well (not SH - they matched up at the Cleveland duals) These teams will be in town for the Brawl.

Also on Friday evening (there will be 5 mats out for the Brawl on Sat) there will be an AAU event for the younger wrestlers.

For more info go to http://www.ScienceHillSports.com and follow the links to the main wrestling area.

So if I read this right, everybody gets at least 4 matches... three in their pool plus one with another. One more if you're winning. Should be a good day!

Somebody may correct this but its is what I remember. My guess is some of the kids wrestled up a weight class.

Knowles finished 2nd and Elliott Vaughn finished 4th at 171. Also Wesley Vaughan finished 4th. A good day for SH wrestlers finishing with about 275 points vs 206 last year.

  8. Yeah I crawled up out of there after the first grade. It took a lot of years away from Slate Creek for my legs to get back to the same length.

There is a lot of story to tell about Grundy and the wrestling program ever since the wrestling facility was built up on the mountainside and they started bringing in talent to teach.

What did change 10 years ago?

For wrestlers not sleeping over, what time do they need to be there and where? I haven't been able to find any registration info on here or on your the KC website. Do the wrestling sessions start Sunday evening or Monday morning? Any forms required that the kids need when they get there?
