  1. This quote was not referring to the QB who practiced in the spring with Temple while enrolled at both SE Whifield and Temple. Marcum was not at Temple at that time. There was no penalty for that. The quote above referred to the kids from CSAS who worked out with Temple in spring FB drills the following year. Caleb supposedly asked, and received permission for this in advance, but since nothing was official, Temple was penalized.
  2. Marcum would have been crazy to stick around his previous schools, coaching JV sports, when he could go to Temple and become the AD and coach for a state tournament level team. There's nothing wrong with opening the door when opportunity knocks. A side question DB. What happened to Meachem? I'm assuming he left because I don't see him in any box scores.
  3. He was pre-enrolled at Temple, and, if that was a violation, someone should have told Ronnie Carter, because he did not penalize them for it. That's a good point about the free advertisement. Maybe Mrs. Hamilton is more savy than people think.
  4. I obviously have no way of knowing what she is thinking. I have not ever even met her. But, I suspect, that she believes it is God's will for the school to be successful. And she probably knows that Temple's success will be limited without some sort of athletics program. So, my bet is that she does probably expect kids to enroll at Temple who want to play sports. Is there something wrong with that, in your opinion?
  5. Someone who thinks of Temple as a "villain" might translate her statement the way you did, others would not. I do agree with you though that her statement shouldn't have been made so closely after the football troubles. It's just more ammunition for the recruiting conspiracy theorists out there.
  6. Fortunatley, our Lord's power and attention isn't limited to just the big stuff. Temple's continuing sports program may or may not be part of His divine plan, but it's certainly not off his radar. But, Mrs. Hamilton probably shouldn't have made that statement in a newspaper where a lot of the readers don't understand or appreciate God's concern for the little things.
  7. Don't be so sensitive DB02. I was just asking TempleTrue who he would be giving his devotion to. You should feel honored that I listed your school as an option.
  8. So, since it is "over" for Temple, is it "over" for you too, or should we look forward to posts next year from DavidBrainerdTrue, or maybe SilverdaleTrue?
  9. Loved Coach Marcum's quote in the paper today. When asked about the rumors of Temple not having a team next year because of low enrollement he said "We're not going anywhere, the Temple dynasty will continue." Is he not the Lane Kiffin of Chattanooga basketball? He hasn't committed yet, but has several offers from mid-majors, including UT-Chattanooga, UT-Martin, and Charleston Southern.
  10. Temple lost 2 starters from last year, Peterson, a senior, and Rector transferred to Grace. I think Marcum is an outstanding defensive coach, but I wonder about his offensive prowess. Against really good defensive teams, his boys looked lost. But, in Marcum's defense, if Temple would have hit 40% of their open shots yesterday, and they had plenty of them, they would have won the game. The guys just shot worse in the championship than I've ever seen them shoot. And that's got nothing to do with Marcum's coaching. You're still bitter about the wupping your Pirates took from the football Crusaders 2 years ago, huh Pirate? That's shameful.
  11. And the Bulls would've never won their NBA championships without Michael Jordan. My point is, who really cares? The fact is, for a number of reasons, Temple has won several championships this decade, and has been to the boro more than any other team the last 10 years. It's been a great run.
  12. There are many reasons for Temple's success, and the Skogens arrival at Temple is certainly one of them. But the Skogens wouldn't have chosen Temple if they hadn't already had a reputation of having a great basketball program. TempleTrue has it right that Temple has been a dynasty in this decade, but his subtitle, "Most dominant team in the decade" isn't true, IMO. None of Temple's championship teams were dominant. They all were challenged for the gold ball. And, none of Temple's teams could be considered the best of the decade. This year's Manasses team may have a claim on that title, but not any of Temple's championship teams. That said, it has been an incredible run for Temple. Their teams have generally overachieved, and have represented the school very well. The cupboard will be bare at Temple for the next couple years. Hopefully they can rebuild and enjoy more success down the road.
  13. Does anyone know what Buckner did to get those 2 technicals?
  14. Good point about the free throws. Temple is horrible in that department. That's gonna have to change tommorrow. Since probably none of us have seen both Sexton and Buckner play more than a handful of games, we can't be objective in our judgement of which player is better. IMO, the player with the better scholarship offer is usually the better player, and in this case it's Buckner. I love my boy Sexton to death, but he's not quite in Buckner's league. Not yet anyway.
  15. CSS statewide. Channel 27 in Chattanooga.
  16. Congrats to Grace for a great season. You all became a team about halfway through the season and played some great basketball. Congrats especially to Hermann who, in my opinion, became more valuable to the team than ever by stepping up his defense and sacrificing his own points while making his teammates better. He should be a Mr. Basketball candidate next year. And congrats to Shaughnessy on a great season, and best wishes at CS. Finally, kudos to the coaching staff for a job well done. I expect ya'll to be back at state next year.
  17. I think this one will get ugly fast, unless Manasses can limit their turnovers. If Manasses plays sloppy like they did against Humbolt, it will be an easy gold ball for the Crusaders.
  18. Has anyone heard anything about Buckner, in regards to the fight after the game yesterday? Any truth to the rumor that he may have hurt his fist on that girl's head?
  19. Okay, I'm back. Losing is tough. And losing your last game like that is horrible. But I've seen plenty of athletes with much more on the line than that handle defeat with a whole lot more class.
  20. While we're on the subject of poor sports, how about the Humbolt kid who sat on the floor and cried after the game instead of shaking the hands of the Manasses players. Pitiful.
  21. Kind of reminds me of a certain 08 grad from Grace.
  22. I'm anxious to see how Shaughnessy does against Buckner. If I was Buckner's coach I would have him go right at him and get him in foul trouble. Once Shaughnessy's on the bench, game over. After hearing so much about Buckner the last couple years, I zeroed in on him in the game against Humbolt today, and wasn't that impressed. I thought he was lazy, and didn't have the offensive skills I expected. I'm sure he's a great player, he just didn't show me as much as I expected. Grace has better guards than Manasses. I really think this game will go down to how well Shaughnessy handles Buckner.
  23. Why wouldn't you want to see a Temple/GB final Mcpoff? GB has Temple's number. As a Temple fan GB is the only team I really don't want to see in the final.
  24. I think Grace Baptist has the ability to beat anyone, and watching them thrash my Crusaders in the postseason made me think they were on their way to doing it. But, I've seen Grace teams lose their intensity and focus over the years, and something tells me we'll see that again Wednesday.
  25. I'm picking an upset in this one, with Grace Knox. winning. They put up 82 in Chattanooga against a nomally stingy Cleveland defense. They've got state experience, and some hungry seniors who know this is their last chance. Grace Baptist has the tools to win state, IMO, but I'm not sure they've got the mental fortitude. They played great in the district and region championships, but it was against a rival team that they not only hated, but had figured out how to play. I think they'll come out flat, and go home early.
