Team 147 is a 12u/6th grade team from Nashville. Scott Oatsvall (FRA) is the coach. The team won last summer's YBOA National Championship in Orlando. All of the players are from middle TN. Team 147 gets it's name from, and uses basketball to raise awareness of, the 147 million orphans in the world today. Go to "www.147millionorphans.com" to learn more. The most recent edition of Tennessee Sports Magazine has an article on them. I don't know a whole lot about WACG. Some group (AAU, Recruiting Service, etc. ??) has ranked them the #1 11u/5th grade team in the country. (How that works, I don't know). I do know that there are recruiting services out there that rank players all the way down to 4th or 5th grade (maybe lower - seems kinda crazy - we've all seen kids that are absolute studs in 7th grade but that is also their absolute peak. Ahh, but I digress). Anyway, the best player on this team is the #1 "ranked" 5th grader in the country out of Chicago, I believe. Should be a fun game.

Now THAT would be a great district and I GUARANTEE you that district would lead the state in attendance.

FRA beat DL in OT. CPA beat FRA by 1. DL beat CPA by 2 in their first meeting. CPA won the last 2 meetings. If these 3 teams were in the same district it would be fun! I don't think any team would go undefeated. These are three really good teams and all three are really young. So, that means good games for a few years to come, even if they aren't in the same divisions - for now... Good luck to FRA in the D-II final 4. 8:00 Friday night at MBA. Should be really fun/interesting. Team 147 is all local middle TN. I hear WACG is flying in 5th graders from all over the country, although one of their players is from Nashville. Should be good...

Game 1 goes to David Lipscomb 61-41 over Sycamore. DL played perhaps it's most complete game of the season. A great team effort! Now waiting to see who wins between Macon County and CPA. Right now CPA is making a comeback but down 23-18 with 2:00 to go in the first half.

Great news - Coach Spann's surgery went well and doctors are optimistic for a full recovery!

The David Lipscomb vs. Goodpasture game that was suspended at halftime last night will be completed tomorrow, Sunday, February 27 at 3:00 at David Lipscomb. Most of you know, but the game was suspended when Goodpasture's coach, Joey Spann, suffered a heart attack just before the start of the second half. No admission will be charged tomorrow, but donations will be accepted for the Joey Spann Medical Fund. Coach Spann underwent bypass surgery this morning but I have not received an update on his status. I am told the doctors were optimistic. Our prayers continue to be lifted up on behalf of Coach Spann, his wife, his family and players and all of Goodpasture.

The people you mention who rushed to his aid were amazing. God bless them for their quick actions and heroic efforts. Amen to the AED. I believe having one there last night saved Coach Spann's life. Our prayers continue to be with him and his family as he undergoes surgery this morning.

Surgery is scheduled for the morning now. No word on when the game will be finished.

Right before the start of the second half of the Goodpasture/Lipscomb game Joey Spann had an apparent heart attack on the court. Medical personnel in the audience responded immediately until the ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital. Please pray for Coach Spann, his wife, his players and the entire Goodpasture family. Blessings on you all.

Macon County is usually very good. They have been ranked near the top 5 all season. And from what I remember they always bring lots of fans.

Exactly. And if you will remember, the LAST place team last year had the district MVP. Kind of makes you go hmmm......

Question: there were about 15 players on the 10aa All District Team. So, how in the world does the second place team, 14-2 in the district, 23-4 overall, #10 in both the state AA polls and the Coach T power rankings, only have ONE player on the all district team? Kelly Smith was Lipscomb's only - but well deserved - representative. CPA got 4 on the team - all well deserved. But, the 7th seed got 3 players on the team. Seriously? CPA's coach got Coach of the Year - Again, well deserved. But, if Lipscomb is so devoid of talent, shouldn't Lipscomb's coach get coach of the century for finishing second? All of the girls on the team deserve the recognition. But, what the heck were the other coaches thinking?

Congratulations to CPA on winning the District tournament tonight. Another great, hard fought game between these two teams. Good luck to DL and CPA in the Region tournament.

Wow! Can you say "upset?" Goodpasture over Westmoreland and then Sycamore over Macon County. If this is any indication, the Region 5 AA Tourney is gonna be a wild one!

Rubber match between DL and CPA tomorrow night! The season is ending the way it should - between the district's two best teams. This one has all the makings of another classic. The girls on both teams will be ready. The fans will be wound up. It's gonna be fun! See you at 6:00!

White's Creek beats East Lit by 2 tonight. Hume Fogg gets upset by MLK. Lipscomb snaps out of a funk and plays like they had most of the season instead of the previous 2 games and the subs were in early in the 4th against Pearl Cohn. So, Lipscomb plays White's Creek and CPA gets MLK on Friday. The second season is under way and it's gonna be fun!

Congratulations to DL Coach Ernie Smith on joining an exclusive club by getting his 800th win in the Lady Mustangs' 61-26 victory over Pearl Cohn. Coach Smith has led the Lady Mustangs for 33 years, averaging over 24 wins a season. Congratulations and GO LADY MUSTANGS!
