  1. Always enjoy this time of the year. Decided to go to the CA/Culleoka game. WOW! I got my money's worth. The best team won tonight, but I don't think these teams will be able to handle West Tennessee basketball. I will probably wind up jinxing my Golden Tornadoes but oh well.

You are right, Culleoka was the best team on the floor last night. Game was a lot closer than it should have been. This Culleoka team is VERY DANGEROUS right now. Beat MTP in the regular season then knocked out CA early in the tournament. Not saying they will advance past region (make too many mental mistakes, foul too much and still recovering from Miller) but I wouldn't want to play them in an elimination game.

    1. Richland

    2. MTP

    3.Culleoka

    4.SF

  2. Even the level of talent on this board has declined. I remember now why I stopped getting on here. At least use proper grammar so someone doesn't need a translator. Sheesh! Good luck to all teams in the tournament. I hope whoever wins it beats the brakes off 12A. Cullypride...OUT!

  3. Just know that Mt P and CA are not top 10 teams in the state

Agree completely. These teams being ranked #1 is a joke. I think Richland is better than both these teams. Cully hung with MTP in MTP (with miller coaching) and beat them in Cully. CA struggled with Cully in both games....and Cully isn't near a state team. If these two teams are top 3 in the state of Tennessee, as the polls have indicated, the talent statewide is worse than I thought. Just my UNBIASED opinion. No personal connection to any of these teams.

  4. trying to figure out seeds for the tounament. MTP is obviously the 1 seed since they havent lost a district game. Culleoka finished 8-4 after taking 2 very close games from cornersville this week (both ended 3-2 in 8 innings). CA has at least 4 losses, Richland has 5 and cornersville has 6, with CA/Richland still having games left to play. So by my calculations....

    If CA beats Richland

    1. MTP (12-0)

    2. Culleoka/CA (8-4)

    3. Culleoka/CA (8-4)

    4. C'ville/Richland (6-6)

    5. Cville/Richland (6-6)

    6. Santa fe (2-10)

    7. Hampshire (0-12)

    If Richland beats CA

    1. MTP (12-0)

    2. Culleoka (8-4)

    3. CA/ Richland (7-5)

    4. CA/ Richland (7-5)

    5. Cornersville (6-6)

    6. Santa Fe (2-10)

    7. Hampshire (0-12)

A lot will be determined via coin flip since many teams split. Should make for a fun tourny either way.

  5. I wouldn't count Cully out just yet. They came out and punched MTP square in the teeth the other night in the first half. Refs let MTP back in after halftime (bogus walk calls and 5 fouls in the first 2.5 mins of the third). But give credit to Harlem, he knocked down 4 straight jump shots to pull them ahead. Culleoka could have easily walked out of the districts with a 1st place trophy, and they know it. Don't sleep on these guys just yet.

  6. Why is Mt Pleasant struggling so bad with Summertown this season? Of any year, this should have been the one where they dominated Summertown and they have a loss and a 1 pt win....not sure if it is the style of play or is it a lack of discipline on the part of Mt Pleasant?

Personally, I dont think they are really that good of a team. And surely not a top 5 state team. Looking at the records of the teams and all the hype with MTP, these games should have been blow outs. As well as the OT win against CA. If MTP runs into a set of refs that call a lot of "over the back", they will lose because half the team will foul out. They seem to have more discipline than years past, but still lack greatly in that area. I think all the hype surrounding MTP is due to a down year. Had this team been around a few years ago when the region was outstanding (Culleoka with Demario Williams, Moore Co with Tyler Jean and Summertown with Wes Long), MTP would lose by 15+ in the first round of the region. Maybe that isn't a fair comparison considering how dominant those teams were, but when you become a "top 5 team", thats the group that comes to mind. And this year's MTP team isn't even in the same sentence with those 3 teams.

That being said, MTP will most likely walk through districts unless Culleoka, Richland or CA (not sold on SF)can make a run. They might run into some trouble with PC or Loretto in region but will still probably go to substate and state. They should just be thankful that there is 0 chance of having to face Spring Hill again somewhere down the line.

  7. Cullypride doesn't seem to be complaining about what is written...just the size of the article in the paper.

It's more about the principle than anything. Even if CA gets beat the headline is usually something like "CA falls short" with a picture of a CA player shooting. The Culleoka/ SF games (girls and boys) are probably the best district matchups tonight. Ya'll be sure to have your magnifying glasses ready. The names and points scored by each player will be wrong, but at least the final score will be right. Maybe.

  8. Just would like to vent for a minute. How come is it when Culleoka, or any other team for that matter, beats CA there is only a 4 sentence paragraph on the third page of the sports section? But when CA beats someone, latest example was SF, they get a 8x10 picture and a novel on the front page. I just don't get what makes CA of all schools so much better than the rest of the area schools. They haven't won anything basketball wise, girls or boys, since like 2001. Both Culleoka teams went to the pit and won last week and if you didnt have a magnifying glass handy when looking at the paper, you wouldn't even have known the games took place. Just doesnt seem right.

  9. Guys, breaking news-Summertown is struggling badly right now....have lost 7 of 8 (the only win being over Mt Pleasant, go figure) and 5 in a row....included in the losses a 51 pter to Spring Hill they had already beaten, Santa Fe, Lawrence County (another team they had already beaten by 23 and is loaded with freshman), Cully (who they had already beaten by double digits)...we may be in the play in game at districts against Clifton if it dont get better

Beating Summertown in any sport is an accomplishment, no matter how they are playing. Cully has been struggling lately as well. They have been missing a lot of (mostly open) shots that they should make.

  10. not saying alot for your district when they are getting beat by 30 and 40 by Summertown if they are some of your better teams....not starting nothing, just an observation

A good observation at that. Summertown girls are a lock to make it to the Boro. They are head and shoulders better than any girls team I have seen in a long while.

  11. Could CA get in the mix after a big road win at Richland?

I believe so. Culleoka SHOULD BE leading or tied for the lead of the district right now, could EASILY be 3-1 right now and maybe 4-0 if not for being content with playing with SF for a half. They just need to focus more on winning instead of not hurting people's feelings.

  12. Culleoka look decent against Summertown. They went 3 minutes without scoring in the 3rd quarter and we all know you can't do that against a solid good team like Summertown. Summertown scored 3 straight 3 pointers during that time frame and Cully could never catch up. Cully plays Santa Fe tonight at Culleoka. I believe this game will be a tight game throughout with Culleoka pulling during 2nd half winning by 10. What about any other district games tonight??

I wasn't at the Summertown game but everything I've heard has been that Culleoka out played Summertown and should have won this game. You mentioned the 9 point swing in the 3rd and I hear Cully uncharacteristcally missed free throws in the 4th. I don't know if the pressure got to them or what but indications are the Warriors came away from this game knowing they should have gotten the W.

  13. I believe the district will end up like this:

    1. Mt Pleasant

    2. Culleoka

    3. Richland

    4. Columbia Academy

    5. Hampshire

    6. Cornersville

    1. MTP

    2. Culleoka

    3. Hampshire

    4. Richland/ SF

    5. SF/Richland

    6. CA

    7. Conersville

I think Cully will give MTP all they can handle. Definately will not be a cake walk for MTP to win district. The Warriors have looked extremely solid so far with a very deep bench.

  14. Better players set on bench get no credit for work or any accomplishments. If your not in click its to bad for you. Need a coach whos knows game and not biased. You have to change the way your team plays to the team your playing. Present coach has no clue! He has one play and thats it. It doesn't work against a bigger and faster team, you have to play to your strenghts. Not the other teams. Until Culleoka gets new unattached coach the region might as well be in Alaska. Thats about has close as they'll get.

Your telling me that CA, MTP and HAMPSHIRE girls are better than Culleoka girls? Coach or no coach. Personally, I dont see it. CA and Cully will battle for that 4th spot. Sounds to me that you are a bitter parent/grandparent/ect... of a girl that is sitting the bench (and rightfully so most likely). The bench did, however, play much better the other night against MM than they have so far this year. But thats not saying to much.

I agree, the offense is rather simple for the most part BUT it does play to the offensive strenghts of this team, which thus far has been Pipkin and Foster on the outside and Scott down low. Kolter has been battling injury and seems to be getting healthy enough to be back in as a starter, which will help out on both ends.

Couldn't help but notice your "unattached" comment and I assume you are talking about him having a daugther on the team? I can assure you that that plays no role in her playing time. If anything, he over-compensates and plays her less than he should. What I would call being "attached" would be playing the upper classmen just because they are upper classmen, rather than because of their ability. I'm not seeing the point behind your comment. Feel free to explain what you meant by "attached".

  15. Team is improving. Still need to work on the little things (limiting turnovers, staying out of foul trouble, ect..) and develop some sort of bench, which so far has been nonexistent. I think they have a good shot to make it into the region this year. A major achomplishment considering where the team was 3 years ago.

  16. Tell that to your beloved 11A poster that came on the 12A board yapping about how great CA was and how they were going to take care of Summertown last saturday.....Guess what?!!!??? Summertown owns 4 double digit wins over the top 2 in your district so go chew on that for a while!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CA ranked 7th in the state---biggest joke I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially when 2 of their 3 losses are DOUBLE DIGIT to a 12A team and the final scores didnt reflect how bad the blow outs really were. SEE YOU IN MT PLEASANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agee with you Vandychris. CA is not a top 10 team (and don't get me started on MTP). I have no idea how they are ranked above Summertown. Good thing rankings at this point in the season don't mean anything.

Santafebaby, you're sounding like your name suggests.....This is America. Stop crushing dreams. BLAH BALH BLAH. CA had their chance to prove they deserve to be called an elite team and what did they do? lost by double digits. I agree he should he should wait until tournament time to start talking, but he is right. And you know it. Give a little credit to someone other than SF. Cully or SF will most likely have to go to Summertown first round of region so keep your words soft and sweet because you might have to eat them later.

  17. I watched Culleoka/Mt. Pleasant last night. Arabica you were right about the outside shooting. However, the had it from Henson. The only problem was no one else could step up. Henson had 22 and the next closest was Jackson at 9. I can't believe this group isn't better. Most of these kids played middle school ball and played for two county championships. The only had trouble with Mt. Pleasant then. I know middle school doesn't necessarily roll over into high school but they to have peaked in 8th grade.

Culleoka should have won last night. Missed lay-ups and free throws killed them. The game plan was awesome. Lots of open looks around the basket that should have ended in points but didn't. I don't know if the threat of being blocked had anything to do with that or not. Zach Henson definately had the hot hand last night, on both ends. Which is really no surprise. The kid is lights out if left open. MTP really didn't impress me all that much. Same ole shoot, miss, jump over everybody, get the rebound, shoot, miss ect ect. They will get beat by somebody in the district this year. All it will take is the right group of ref's who call over-the-back fouls and the game will be over.

  18. Cullypride, I agree. They definitely showed their inexperience; However, it's not just that. They don't seem prepared. They have some good talent if they could only do the small things. Dribbling, passing, and positioning is such a big part of this game. Culleoka has some groups that work well together, but the groups don't seem to always mesh. I still don't think the work ethic is there. We'll see as the season progresses.

Alot of the not looking prepared last night was because coach sharp had a loss in the family and wasn't able to conduct a walk through or anything yesterday afternoon. In fact he wasn't back until right before gametime (resaon guys played first). Reguardless, frustration fouls, missed free throws and double dribbles in the back court with no press are uncalled for. Nobody stepped up last night in the 4th quarter or overtime, they were looking for someone else to do it. Culleoka is the better team no doubt. They just have to eliminate the stupid, lazy mistakes.
