  1. Hey BEARCLAW, several years ago, my team went 33-0 during the regular season, district and region tournaments, and sub-state....then we got to Murfreesboro and bounced in the first round by Livingston Academy. I thought my team was the best in the state that year too.....

Funny how these discussions always allow one team to trash talk another. Don't think I've hinted that the Lady Grizzlies were the best team in the state, although for my two cents they are. Knowing all the Lady Grizzlies and their coaches, I don't need a trip to Middle Tennessee nor a gold ball to make me more proud of them than ANY team in the state. It's tough to watch a great team get this close to state and have to go home, but it is what it is. In any game that is played one team wins and one looses. The good thing is there is always next year. I'm sure there are posters who will follow up with their childish comments, but that changes nothing. It does, however, show where the true class is.

  2. Not sure what went down at the EH/Grainger game but it sounds like their is a good rivalry there. Just wanted to say I was at the CAK game last night and thought the Grizzlies played a great game. They played with a ton of class and never played our girls dirty. As for the fans, they were great to. I never once heard them say any mean spirited words or comments to our girls or fans. It was a pleasure having them visit our gym. The Grizzlies have a super program and a great bunch of girls. Win or lose I hope we can play them again next year. It was great night for some east TN high school basketball.

Very true. Wish more hosts treated guests as well as CAK did last night. Thanks for opening the doors much earlier than you posted and planned. Truly a different atmosphere. Great game, the CAK ladies were ready to win and came out of the gates shooting. A rematch would be welcome! Hope that works out next year! Still proud of my Lady Grizzlies and coaching staff!

  3. yea right, you guys started it calling our coach every name in the book and bringing your cussing kids up to cheer on your team, saying we pull all the talent from the county schools yet three Carter County teams go to State....I guess you got time to wash their mouths out now..

Get off the computer and call mommie to come and change that dirty diaper on your head. Post on little wind.

  4. Well it looks like a Grainger County Elizabethton rematch is not to be. The Teddy Bears are 32 and two the house. And as for Elizabethton pulling all the talent from the county schools, how did Carter County Send 3 teams to State? Good luck with the summer camp basketball, I hope y'all win it all.

Why is no one surprised at YOUR poor sportsmanship. This post does not deserve a reply. You exemplify what is wrong with high school sports. Arrogance and name calling. Such a mature thing to do/be! I sincerely hope you are not truly representative of the Elizabethton High School fans.

Congratulations to the Lady Cyclones on your win tonight. Good luck at Murfreesboro.

  5. Ok - all teams have fans with different personalities who support them in different ways. Some support is good for teams and some may be embarrasing. I'm sure the Grainger players would agree. It is a really big deal that your team had a long stretch of being undefeated through the season and into the post season. We had a team not so long ago who was blessed and fortunate enough to do the same and yes, they lost in the first round of the state tournament. It broke their hearts as well as us parents/fans. Did it take away from their accomplishments in our eyes? Absolutely not - we were still just as proud of them. And I'm sure the Grainger parents/fans feel the same about their team.

Now please stop putting pressure on these teenagers by talking about how things would be different or the same at the next meeting and let them enjoy the experience of their success. Sometimes adults cause more hard feelings between the kids than would be there without these type remarks. I can tell you for sure that one particular girl that was on our undefeated team now goes to college with some of the very players who played for our biggest rivals and there certainly was no love lost between the players. Now they have good relationships and respect each other and what they all accomplished. They've even played some intramural ball together.

Elizabethton's players are some of the best kids with lots of heart and commitment to what they are working for that you'd ever meet and I'm sure the same could be said of Grainger's. Hopefully if they get to meet again each team will respect the other and not let the things talked about in this thread influence their opinions of the other.

I will have to agree with you 100%, but discussions like this one are NEVER one-sided. It takes two for an argument, so here's hoping the Elizabethton and Grainger posters/fans will follow your excellent advice. Guilty as charged, but, most doors I've seen swing both ways and not just one. I'll join you on the "high road" and clean it up a bit on my part. I won't even go back to the first posts and see who started the heckling and got all this started. Good luck tonight Lady Grizzlies....WIN BIG! Good luck tonight Lady Cyclones...WIN BIG! I do so hope we get to meet next Saturday night down in Murphy Center.

  6. I'd trade rankings and records for championship trophies any day. Keep your cupcake, trophyless, undefeated season...

Wow...you really told me on that one. I guess I'll cower under my bed for a while until I stop shaking! Why is it you Betsys can't stay on one line of talk for more than one post. No one has dissed Elizabethton's past record, but a lot of you Betsy's sure have tried to trash ours. I'll take the high road and be the mature one here and just let it go. I REALLY hope we meet again in Murfreesboro. How much do you want to put on our next meeting? Show us just how confident you are.

  7. I know all about the pgs and their injuries. I know those two girls and both are really nice and sweet little gals. But to say the cyclones are better off without the three they lost is not correct. Better off without McCurry - true, but Hodge was a force underneath and Depew is a true pg who can also score big points and was the team leader. She would have been great with the twins so don't begin to badmouth those two girls! EHS is better having the twins in the lineup, but not because of loving Depew and Hodge. They would have been awesome together!

Nope, you are wrong. Elizabethton led by 17 at one point....before all the intentional fouling began!

Since when did we go from the win to earlier in the game. My comments were at the end. Who led when is mute in the game. It's the final score only that matters. You can't dispute the FACT that the end score was inflated....AS ARE ALL END OF GAME SCORES...by intentional fouls to change possession or extend the game. You've done it, we've done it, common practice! All these posts from up there seem to be centered around ONE GAME ONLY. The Lady Grizzlies had, and still has, the better record. That is unless the Lady Cyclones have been undefeated all season and ranked number one in the state. Not throwing at you, but at all the posts in general.

  8. No, what is amazing is that you have gone off the deep end over our coach simply because on the floor Wednesday night, Elizabethton was the best team and outplayed Grainger from start to finish!

And 20 wins while going through one thing after another was fantastic for these girls. In the end, everyone knew 20 wins was an underachievement because he had the same starters then as this year! Same great team, just handed a tough hand to play with.

Just get over the fact that Grainger is not undefeated anymore.

I would like for the Lady Grizzlies to win over CAK Saturday -- for the girls, not for fans like you. Since you know so much about Elizabethton, I suppose you know we already played Alcoa in our gym once this season and won 82-61, but whatever the outcome, we are fine because we know we have had the best season possible. Losing two of our best players was hard to overcome, but we have and people like you will not change that.....nor will it change the fact that we won big Wednesday night!

Oh, one more thing ...... better luck next year if you make it to the regional final. Seems you guys have a problem with that.

Won big Wednesday night? Give me a break! Won by 15, but at lease 8 of those came from our intentional fouls at the end of the game giving scores from the bonus line...NOT from play on the court. You need to get YOUR facts straight. Not taking anything away from the Lady Cyclones, but your arrogance is only exceeded by .....................

  9. Well let’s see we have played Alcoa already this year and beat them by 21 points. They handed a loss to CAK a couple of times this year. Getting that Home Court Excuse ready again I see, Don't blame you.

Prider, you've ridden this home court garbage enough on here. Posting in other discussions on how you guys will have home court advantage over Alcoa tomorrow night. Get over it. You make all this garbage over winning one game. Shucks, Grainer has been #1 in the state for weeks, and undefeated until Wednesday night. If anyone has anything to crow about, it's Grainger, not Elizabethton. The only bragging on here is coming from you and a couple more from Elizabethton, and it comes from one game. It is certainly sad that your life has been so devoid of successes that you have to base everything on ONE game! Grow up kid. You aren't ready for the big boys yet.

  10. You know what's funny about this article....This Grainger team is nothing like last years team. The entire style of play is different....The mentality is different. They approach every game the same...WIN... They have played both Unicoi and Elizabethton this past summer and beat both handedly. I know the summer is different than tournament play but it does me something. Grainger has alot to prove.....

Did they prove anything with being #1 in the state, only one loss during the entire season? Better record than anyone else.

  11. Hopefully the Lady Cyclones can bring the same intensity and execution on Saturday as they did last night. Betsy got the better of Alcoa early in the season at Elizabethton. That was a long time ago and I'm sure both teams are better now. We'll find out which packs the biggest punch on Saturday, a Cyclone or a Tornado...

Both are big winds! Sorry etownsparky....I just had to. Couldn't pass that opportunity up. Good luck to all tomorrow night!

  12. Grainger played Elizabethton AT Elizabethton. That could have had an impact on the outcome. Could be an indicator of whether or not Grainger is ready to make the next step or not. My feeling is that it's an indictment of the postseason for hoops in general. Time to start having neutral sites for all the tournaments. Been that way for years. Goes back to all those years Hal Henard was the site for many tournaments that South Greene won. It's basically there home away from home. Rotation between districts is fine for the region, but playing at Milligan, the Mini Dome or somewhere else acceptable is preferred.

Right on Kev! I'm not going to get into the "home court advantages" over the years for everyone. But, playing at a neutral site would sure level the playing floor all the way around. More parking, larger facilities, and neutral mojo for both teams. I will say that Hal Henard and that cracker box down the hill were jokes...still are. It's time to take both of them out of the mix.

  13. Here are my picks. B)

Elizabethton. (Any one else notice that Grainger got destroyed by them tonight?)

CAK (going on a gut feeling here)

McMinn Central (will be a very close game. Cannon will not be able to handle the round house)

Livingston Academy (will be a 20+ point game)

Creek Wood ( just a guess)

    CPA ( just a guess)

Covington (won't be a close game)

Westview (know that they are always a tough team. Put my Chargerettes out at state a few years back)

Grainger got "destroyed". Give me a break. They got beat by 15. At least 8 of those 15 points came from intentional fouls at the end of the game and had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Elizabethton's abilities. I guess all the rest of you who didn't make it to #1 in the state have to do something to make yourself feel like you are our equals. Enjoy that warm fuzzy feeling it gives you. Maybe after you get your hats handed to you tomorrow night you can just live on those fuzzy feelings until next season. Maybe you can be us at some point in your hardwood career.

  14. Whoa. Didn't take long for someone to pull out the tradition card. Quit beating a dead horse, we've said many times that your team outplayed ours and that your girls deserve all the credit for that. I've never once blamed the refs. The refs were bad, but it was bad both ways. The refs did not create the outcome. But I don't see what Band, swimming and ACT scores have to do with a discussion about your coach. Like I said you can defend him all you want, spin it however you want, but you aren't going to make the rest of the world believe it. Outside of your little Elizabethton bubble, the rest of the world sees Dugger for what he really is. Dugger has been there way too long for anyone to call him in and tell him that he has to do anything. Lol. I don't care who your superintendent is or how much power he has or what the local newspaper says. Truth is Dugger went to the super when the boys job opened and said let me do it because he knew that he couldn't win with the girls last year. The poor AD was the one who had to fall on the sword for him. End of story. End of discussion. lol.

Well put hoopster, well put! It's time for this discussion to end. Way too many off the wall posts. Time to focus on Saturday night for both teams. It would be fantastic for the Lady Cyclones and the Lady Grizzlies to meet Saturday week in Murphy Center for the final game! Good luck to the Lady Cyclones, but Lady Grizzlies....take it all the way!

  15. No one made up anything, you guys said your coach should not shake hands. Maybe our coach saw your little Roly-polies needed a rest from trying to run up and down the court with the Cyclones. I guess they were not use to playing at that pase. With that mouth I guess the apple did not fall far from the tree, I bet you wrote the cheers for your student section last night.

We've all stood behind our teams throughout this discussion. Not one single word belittling the players on either/any team. Now you step in with this grade school-playground talk. I had my suspicions that you were not an adult from your previous posts, and now you provide the proof. What a joke. I'm sure your school and your community are proud to have people like you involved in a good basketball program like the Lady Cyclones have. Coach Combs, Coach K, Coach Roach, and EVERYONE on the bench walked through the line and shook EVERY hand on the Lady Cyclone's team. Let's talk about cheers. Our kids were moved from behind their team and placed in a corner at the end of the court UPSTAIRS for standing up. Your students were on their feet the entire game, and were in our girls ears on the sideline screaming everything imaginable to them. And you make your childish statements about our fans. Thankfully you ARE NOT typical of Elizabethton fans. Our girls have sought out "supposed" better teams all season to make them better. They went to Smith County looking for bigger and better. They found tough competition, and never backed down. That being said, post what you want. You don't deserve any more responses. You've taken this discussion to a level not deserving of notice. There's always one in the bunch! Good luck to the Lady Cyclones, but better luck to the Lady Grizzlies. I sincerely hope we have the opportunity of a face to face meeting some day so we can discuss all this further.

  16. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have just proved yourself to have absolutely no credibilty with this post. I stayed for the entirety of the post game and everyone of our coaches and players shook hands with every single member of the Elizabethton team and coaching staff after the game. You can have your opinions, but don't make up lies about someone. That's just stupid. How can you even get on here and try to pass that one off. And to answer an earlier post that said the timeout was during a player being trapped. WRONG AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! It was after and Elizabethton Free Throw and before Grainger could inbound the ball with 34 Seconds remaining and a 15 point lead. Total jerk move! You can defend him all you want. Fact is that you don't use that situation to teach anybody anything other than don't foul and hold the ball and run the clock. That was a hey look at me and look at us and let's rub it in their noses a little while longer. Classless. Don't care if he's a teacher, preacher, or what he is. Your players were great and very classy. They are credit to what they have to be coached by. He's an ####! And they're are many in the area who feel the same way. Trust me on that one!

You have to consider the source here. You can't argue with someone who has no problem making up what he wants. Coaches shook hands with everyone. I've not seen a single coach refuse to shake all season. The Boo Hoo Hoo goes to this "LITTLE PUFF OF WIND", not a Cyclone!

  17. Congratulations, records are great! BTW, check the records for Wins/Losses, District Championships, Regional Championships, substate championships and state appearances over the past 10-15 years and see how they compare. However, I would not trade places with Grainger right now, i.e. have the better record and be traveling to CAK or have the lesser record and host Alcoa. I'd pick the Lady Cyclones' position every time...

That's a pretty darn good record the Lady Cyclones have there over the last 10-15 years. Nothing to sneeze at. But as far as this season goes....and I thought that's what we were all discussing, they fall short of the Lady Grizzlies Yes, records are great!

  18. Nothing that happened prior to last night matters at all. Now , what happened last night doesn't matter. The only thing that matters now is the upcoming games for both teams

We'll disagree on all that happened before last night, and on what happened last night. Both are VERY important to BOTH teams. You can't weaken nor take away what got both teams to where they were/are. What we WILL agree on is the importance of the upcoming games both will face. I will end by saying Good Luck to BOTH the Lady Grizzlies and the Lady Cyclones.

  19. At this time of year , I am pretty sure that the score of the one game is really all that matters.

For the Lady Grizzlies, the loss last night only means two things. We lost one game all season, and we didn't bring home another plaque to hang in the trophy case. That's ALL we lost last night. Hopefully we'll meet again in Murfreesboro on a neutral floor and see if the Lady Cyclones can perform a "repeat" of last night.

  20. The Lady Grizzlies are to be commended for their great record. However, to say the Lady Cyclones record is "nowhere near" Grainger's is over-stated. If you want to look at the numbers, then look at all the numbers. First, if we look purely at wins and losses, then Grainger obviously gets the nod. But, what about out of conference competition? The two teams that Elizabethton lost to in SC would have beaten Grainger as well. These were teams that I'm sure will compete in their respective state tournaments. It's hard to compare conference schedules, but D2 was as weak overall as I've seen. D1 was not as strong at the top as sometimes in the past, but there was more parity than in a while. Consequently, I think the strength of schedule check goes to the Lady Cyclones. Betsy did lose two regular season games they shouldn't have. Regardless, I would conclude that both are quality teams with great records, that are having outstanding seasons and hopefully will have more than one game of basketball remaining. Peace...

While you are browsing all those wins and losses, what do you find from the Christmas Tournament in Smith County this year down in Middle Tennessee and the Lady Grizzlies performance? No losses until last night...lost to a well prepared and ready to play team...and let's see......how many weeks were you guys rated NUMBER ONE in the state? You are correct. The facts do speak for themselves.

  21. Well lets talk about the season and who you guys played. If you total up all the points Elizabethton in the four games Elizabethton lost it would not have been by 15. They were just a 2 point loss (48-46) to the number one team in SC. Dorman who is playing for the 4A state championship tomorrow night in the Colonial Life Arena.

    http://www.schsl.org...ackets/gbt4.pdf

Now, what was the Lady Cyclone's record up until last night as compared to the Lady Grizzlies? Take a look at what the Lady Grizzlies did to Middle Tennessee in the Christmas Tournament in Smith Co. Woo hoo! You played a good team in South Carolina. ONE GAME! The number of points anyone scores is mute compared to WHO GOT THE WIN! We have waaaaayyyyyy more of those than the Lady Cyclones. Check your records on that one!

  22. I gave the score and it was not to down anyone and its what happens now that matters not a week ago and that's not taking anything away from the great season Grainger has had they are a good team and good kids but don't try to read my mind when you have no clue what I'm thinking or saying just because I give a score.

Lawnman, my intention was NOT as you see it. I was merely pointing out that the score from ONE game does not define a great team. Lady Cyclones nor Lady Grizzlies.
