  1. I was shocked to see that Maryville had lost to Catholic after beating them during the reg. season and overall, having a very strong season. It all comes down to the play offs, and if you don't compete, you aren't gonna go far. It sounds like catholic showed they were more competitive than Maryville. I don't think Maryville should have played possession ball after going up just 1-0.

  2. On the general question of quality of refs my only observation would be that yes we seem to be seeing younger referees. I can't say if they are making better or worse calls. I don't envy them. It seems to me that both players and coaches talk back to referees a lot more today then they did even eight years ago.

I do respect and appreciate the ref's efforts even when I'm bemoaning the fact they just missed a call that was obvious to me cause I'm watching one thing and he was watching another.

    One question:

Is there a site to review what red or yellow cards were given in a particular game?

I wasn't able to attend the Bradley vs Ooltewah game on 5/4 at Bradley. Second hand I've heard that the Bradley coach was asked to leave the area of play and play did not resume until he had driven away. Does that mean he was given a red card?

I know in Alabama there is not a website where anyone can go and see what cards were given. The referees do report them in their game reports, especially red cards.

If the game did not resume until he was driven away, I would presume he got red carded.

  3. I readily concur with these previous assessments. We had a shot on goal directly deflected by the keeper straight over the nets and the keeper was awarded a goal kick - even with the linesman pointing directly to the corner! It has become increasingly more difficult to remain silent while on the sidelines watching very poor officiating. With that said, I do want to thank everyone who is trying to officiate this year in East Tennessee because you are doing something I do not want to do. So thank you. You have my appreciation and respect - even with the poor calling that has marked most of this season. I would like to give a shout out to one "young" official who I think works very hard and is improving every game - Bryan McCarter. Thanks BMAC for all you do! To all the other officials who have endured my displeasure from the sidelines please accept my humblest and most sincere apologies! Perhaps there are some other freshly graduated college students who can be successfully recruited to help sure up the ranks of the High School officials in East Tennessee.

Signed, Trying to be patient! - Luvdagame!

Seriously, you're complaining about a referee botching whether it was a corner kick or goal kick. That happens often in soccer, even if he was obviously wrong, there are bigger referee mistakes you should complain about. If this is it, then the referees are doing a fine job.

  4. Don't overlook DB. They played great against Bearden tonight and if they play like they did tonight, they can beat anybody. Ridgeway and Oak Ridge, however, I believe are the favorites to win it all this year. It should be a great tournament. Good luck to all of the teams.

I will have to put my money on Clarksville. They played Maryville tough last year and I dont think Oak Ridge will win (Maryville will be the next team from the east to win it).

  5. Having seen both of these teams play Maryville twice - it will all come down to how Bearden handles the press. Obviously Maryville had some problems - that led to about 20 turnovers and probably 20 points too. If Bearden cant handle the press, I expect OR to win. If Bearden can work their inside game with Simpson, then they have a chance to win. Should be a great game, I'm just bummed Maryville is out of it.

  6. Oak Ridge played full-court press the entire game and that is how they caused so many turnovers. The same thing happened in december the first time the two played - Oak Ridge caused many turnovers, so you can somewhat blame that on the coaches. Maryville either couldnt inbound the ball, or they could get it pass mid-court without some crazy pass (that went out a lot of times). OR also hit two or three key three-pointers to give them the lead for good, other than that, it was looking good for Maryville. A Sophmore for Maryville missed a super-wide open lay-up at the very end that could have given the rebels a chance. The refs werent that bad - a couple of questionable calls and missed calls but I didnt have a problem. Overall, Im glad to have seen that last Maryville game of the year - I loved to see Lambert, Damron, and A-Doug win a title and have great careers and I wish the best to them as they continue. Best of luck too to the teams in the East (Bearden, Farragut and Oak Ridge) and I hope they can bring another one home.

  7. West TN last year was sayin everything about how they will win the title and when they were all eliminated, they started saying it was a fluke. Well, I will say, west tennessee better have their guns ready because if they show-up thinking they will win it all easily, they've got somethin else coming for them. I getting my hotel room for 2 days!!!

  8. I really havent seen Powell play a whole, in matter of fact, not since last season when they clobbered Maryville in the regional finals. They have lost 8 games so I do expect Maryville to win but I think they game should be tough. What do you guys think? Especially those who have seen both teams play this season.

  9. Jordan Damron is a better ball handler than Lee Humphrey was. Him and Lee Humphrey can both shoot the lights out.

Lee Humphrey is taller, bigger and more athletic. What a lot of people don't realize is Lee Humphrey was a great athlete. Humphrey can do windmill dunks and two hand reverse dunks with ease. He also would have been starting quarterback had he stuck with football.

Lee Humphrey has that same look on his face at all times. He has that goofy little grin on his face. Jordan is more emotional. He is a fiery leader. Jordan is very intense and hates losing.

Travis Stinnett and Damron would probably be a better comparison. Stinnet was a much better ball handler. Stinnet was one of the best ball handlers I ever seen. If Lee Humphrey had Travis Stinnets ball handling skills he would be in the NBA.

Jordan Damron is not as tall as lee humphrey but can handle the ball better and shoot just as well. JD also isnt afriad to take it inside while lee humphrey was pretty much just mid and long range. Many think because of his size, it will keep him from going D1 but there might be one or two school s that offer him a scholarship. Do you think Maryville will beat Powell. I havent seen Powell play lately but they were the last team to beat us last year.

  10. Well, Bearden really out-played Maryville and found a way to contain Jordan Damron, although I think we could have shot more three's. The refs werent calling many over the backs but I'm gonna try to not blame the games on the refs. It seems if Bearden misses a shot inside, they always have another guy inside to put it back in on the jump. If you can shut that down, then you can gain about 10 to 15 points. Good thing the season isnt over though, I hope our guys just return to practice hungry to focus more and get better because tougher teams are coming. Congrats to Bearden, for Maryville, it is hard to beat a good Bearden team three times in a row. There might even be another match-up between us....who knows.

  11. The officiating was horrible in the fourth quarter and overtime. The refs called an intentional foul against Bearden that should have been only a regular foul, and, in the last play of the game, Blake Jenkins drove to the bucket and got hammered but no foul called. Maryville may still have won anyway, but I just hate to see the refs have such a negative influence in a well played and tough game. Also, Simpson was the best big guy on the court tonight. Rebelsfan, be careful what you say. Bearden is the most improved team in the district this year. They could easily become the team to beat as the teams go into the tournament.

That't it - blame it on the officiating. Look, the bottom line is there were many calls that could have gone either way. When it came down to it - Maryville hit the threes to win the game. Dont think I am doggin it down on Bearden. They are an excellent team with great players. I'm always worried when we play them because they are so good. We may meet again too in the district tournament.

  12. Ha, now who's playing the best basketball in TN? Maryville? I loved how DeMonte's mom was showing her muscles like her son had talent (not like he doesnt). Well, look who came out on top for the second time this year - The almighty Maryville Rebels! Let's see, Bearden WAS #2, now let's see your new rankings. By the way - I'm pretty sure Jordan Damaron (JD) is the best clutch player in TN. He hit 3 3-pointers in OT. WOW!!!

    1. Oak Ridge

    2. Maryville....

    ?. Bearden

  13. This is going to be a real good game. If Maryville wins they more than likely will be the number 1 seed out of the district. Bearden is probably playing the best ball of anyone in the area right now. I'm going to have to say Bearden wins a very close game by no more than 5 points. If it weren't for Tennessee/Kentucky I would be at this game.

Well, I guess you could say I'm picking MHS because that is who I am a fan of and your picking Bearden because that is who you're a fan of.

  14. Yea, WB was no match for Maryville. I was at the game. Jordan Damron got into Cochran's head and after that, Cochran maybe made one shot. Big Jay Renolds did an excellent job and the three's for us fell like nothing. I think Maryville is looking a lot better this year than last and we dont even have A-Doug yet - who can dunk and is a little more athletic than Reynolds. We have the great play where we lob the ball to Reynolds and he makes the easy lay-up - that killed WB, along with the threes. The Original Poster said this should be a great game but Maryville is always too much for WB.

About Maryville's losses - I cant really explain the AE loss, we might have been able to beat them with A-Doug but I dont want to use one guy as an excuse, I think the score was close though. The OR loss can be blamed on turnovers (25) that will always lose a game - Coach West (the AC) told me the next day he thought turnovers causes the loss. We did beat Bearden and Farragut who we usually play in districts so that is a good sign. That Bearden team is amazing but we should only get better.

BTW - the WB girls had only 8 points going into the third - OUCH!!!

  15. Going to the state Championship is a usual thing for Maryville, they won because they were very confident - not over confident. They executed well. Now that football season is over, I'm looking forward to Basketball, hopefully, we can bring another championship back in that sport as well. LOL at that guy that said this game isnt gonna be like the SC game from the past two years.
