1. QUOTE(tennesseelofton @ May 8 2007 - 07:51 PM) 826454776Wow sounds like a great game. Congrats to Coffee Co and goodluck to them tomorrow. Hopefully there wasn't any umpire errors to hear about.

Nothing but congrats to Coffee County. You knew early on that somebody was gonna be heartbroken. Heck of a game, just not ready for it to be over. Both teams played their hearts out. We hope that Lawrence and Coffee do 8AAA proud, good luck to both. Lincoln County loses 8 special seniors. 3 of those . . . Cody Gaskill, Brandon Netherland, and Shamichael Black have been playing together since they were 6 years old. They, along with William Merritt will be continuing their careers as all have signed baseball scholarships. To #'s 1, 2, and 3 . . . thanks for the wonderful ride for the past 11 years. We know that there will be many more memories to come, though it will be different seeing you on opposite sides! Again, great game, congratulations to Coffee County, and good luck to Lawrence and Coffee!

  2. QUOTE(pops7 @ May 8 2007 - 01:58 PM) 826454562I agree with your assessment. the quote below is my thoughts on the Lawrence County - Lincoln County game held on Monday in Tullahoma. All of the games have been great... I expect more great games as the tourney continues

"the guys playing deserve an "atta-boy" for the way in which they played. their was no "quit" for both teams. the players, played their hearts out and deserve to be noticed. I look for Lincoln County to be in the championship game, they were ready for the Lawrence County game and they will be ready to play tonight.

Which ever team wins to face Lawrence County in the championship game will be ready. Can't imagine a team playing for the championship NOT being ready.

Great baseball players playing great games...... that is what it is about!!!!!"

The tournament has been full of great games. Those who watched the district all year really expected nothing different. I'd say you would be hard pressed to find one better. Hopefully, there are still three to go and I am looking forward to watching. The three left were the top three finishers during the regular season, but they have all had to work their tails off to get where they are. It's another day, and it's a beautiful one!! That is what it is all about.

  3. QUOTE(CUBCADET @ May 8 2007 - 08:16 AM) 826454209Please read my post in response to ozzie smith's comments..The post could be in reply to this one also!!

I think if you would take the time to read before responding, you wouldn't have to waste your time writing. I have not seen anyone blame the outcome on the umpires. The only thing being mentioned is umpires not knowing the rules. No ifs, ands, or buts . . . that is not excusable. This ballgame was a very enjoyable game, with both teams playing well and playing their hearts out. Granted, a game is made up of numerable opportunities and you have to take advantage of them. When you've got two teams playing for a region berth you should have umpires that know the rules, bottom line. Hats off to Lawrenceburg, great win. Hopefully, Lincoln County will get another shot.

  4. QUOTE(riverdaleman @ May 8 2007 - 12:28 AM) 826454112WHAT HAPPENED and what was called

Don't want to get too long winded, but on the rules call, here was the play . . .

Runner on 2nd no outs. Grounder to shortstop, runner breaks, throw to third, rundown. Both runners are on second, no one passed and no tag, runner goes back to first. Throw to first gets away, lead runner goes to third. Runners on first and third (?). After conferring, umpires call runner on first out. After being questioned on the call, umpires determine that the lead runner is out and award the trailing runner second base. A tag was never made and the trailing runner never passed the lead runner. No rules were broken. Instead of having runners on first and third with no outs, the umpires DECIDED that there should be a runner on second with one out. They had no clue and it was obvious, especially when they awarded the trailing runner second base. Blown judgement calls are a part of baseball, but not knowing the rules in INEXCUSABLE. Go get Coffee County tonight Falcons. No excuses!

  5. QUOTE(binns37388 @ May 8 2007 - 01:26 AM) 826454122There was one missed call in the game that went against Lincoln Co, but one missed call isn't gonna cost someone a game. The umpires were man enough to admit they made a mistake and are just as sorry as anyone else, and maybe more so, that it happened. The two umpires are outstanding men with good character. I wish I could say I've never made a mistake in a baseball game. Give Lawrence Co some credit. They came from behind more than once in this game. I have a lot of respect for Coach Tate and Coach Reese who have done a wonderful job with the Lincoln Co High School baseball program. Other than that one missed call, it was a great game. The best thing to do now, is move on. Tomorrow is another day and another game. You better focus on Coffee Co, because they're playing well right now. The Red Raiders are averaging more than 8 runs a game in this tourney. That old saying is true. Don't cry over spilled milk. The coaches voted to use a 2 man crew for the first time in this tournament, instead of a 3 man crew to save a few dollars. The vote was 7-0. Maybe with that third umpire, they would have gotten the call right and maybe not, but I like the odds. Pickoff plays at first and the tail end of a double play, which is almost always a bang bang play, are just two of many reasons why 3 umpires should be used in District Tournament play. In those two situations, you would always have an umpire at first. Are district tournaments not as important as Region games and the State Tournament, where a 3 man crew is mandantory? Just my opinion, but I could be wrong.

This reaks of Binns making excuses for his guys. I've got no argument over a judgement call, and the "double play" was a judgement call. The other was a flat out rule call and the umpires DID NOT know the rules. Granted, he may have felt bad after the game, but I guarantee you that there were a lot of people with a lot riding on the game who felt worse. A game of this magnitude deserves umpires who know the rules. Umpires in a district tournament game should know the rules. The call that was made was wrong and the umpires not having a clue on the rules is INEXCUSABLE. The way that the umpires placed the runner after their decision simply proved that they didn't know what they were doing. Binns, I know you were at the game and with the obvious confusion of the umpires I would have expected better communication, even if it meant you getting involved. That play did not lose the game, but in a one-run game, and with the situation being what it was, man, it sure was critical. Congratulations to Lawrence County. Both teams played well, and yes, Lincoln County had better be ready to play tonight. Hope to see you again!

  6. QUOTE(columbiaguy @ May 7 2007 - 08:43 AM) 826453327Lincoln Co. will win. They are too athletic for Lawrence. If Lincoln isn't swinging it well theyb can always outrun you too. Lincoln has more pitching also.

Both teams look to be playing well and it is a beautiful day for baseball. This is what it's all about, hope to have a good crowd. These two have shown to be the two best in the district.

  8. QUOTE(baseball @ May 3 2007 - 07:18 AM) 826450624Matt Hartsfield and Holden Killen of Lawrence County have signed with Columbia ST

I know Matt is your centerfielder, what position does Holden play? Just trying to put faces with the names. On Lincoln County's bunch, Gaskill SS, Black 2B, Netherland CF, and Merrit RF.

  9. QUOTE(wingman10 @ May 3 2007 - 06:50 AM) 826450612motlow needs help

I am anxious to hear the replies on this topic. I am hearing that Motlow's coach has really been working 8AAA, trying to keep the good local players here. He has been to several of Lincoln County's games and I have been able to speak to him some. Seems like a good guy who is wanting to build Motlow back up. I have heard of several 8AAA players that he is targeting and if he can get a good percentage of them, Motlow could get back headed in the right direction.

  10. QUOTE(Legends @ May 2 2007 - 09:26 PM) 826450458District 8AAA has some really strong players. Who has signed and what college? Who are being looked at?

Lincoln County has four . . . Cody Gaskill was an early signee with Calhoun and yesterday morning Shamichael Black, Brandon Netherland, and William Merrit signed with Motlow.

  11. QUOTE(pedo_29 @ May 1 2007 - 10:11 AM) 826449024Yes I'm understanding that it will be totally different as well unless something crazy happens at the meeting today. 6 will play 7 in the play in game with 3 seeded Coffee County playing the winner of that game. 4 and 5 will play each other and 1 and 2 have a bye....

Heard that Lincoln County plays at 1:30 Saturday vs the winner of Coffee County/play in winner.

  12. QUOTE(bluecaptain @ May 1 2007 - 11:27 AM) 826449101Let's see, .254 batting average, from the great MTCS, and career highlight against Watertown? You are bad to the bone if that is you.

Would it be the same one that was pinch hit for in all 3 of the Bethel games? Is it starting to come out?

  13. QUOTE(homegrown @ May 1 2007 - 10:51 AM) 826449064walkoff 11 - what's your name and where do you play? I've been really curious the past few weeks. Reading all of your knowledgeable posts and words of wisdom to many baseball players. It would be a great honor for me to know who the face is behind the screenname.

I would just be thrilled if walkoff got a life! Get over it, and do us all a favor and get out of Coach T. I'm sure that a person of your knowledge could find a better use for it.

  14. QUOTE(ozzie smith @ Apr 29 2007 - 06:06 PM) 826447961Does anybody have a schedule for the tournament; as far as who plays who, dates and times? How did the seedings come out; heard Lawrence got 1 and LC got 2. What about everybody else?

Hopefully we'll know something this morning. I saw something in The Columbia Daily Herald this morning that I think was totally wrong. It listed 3 "play in" games to get to a 4 team double elimination. I'm understanding that it will be totally different.

  15. QUOTE(walkoff_11 @ Apr 17 2007 - 12:03 PM) 826439434Dont get mad! I am playin college baseball now at a better school than Bethel. well maybe not according to your webbsite, Idaho, haha I still laugh at that statement, uncharted waters hehee. a matter fact I think you will be playing us soon.... i will lend keck a boatpaddle and see if he can strike out with that too. well i will cya soon coach. hopefully you guys can get one from us but Idoubt it. thanks for wasting my time when you recruited me.

P.s. All of your players look the same, are they related or just inbreds??

Hello . . . Walkoff? You still there? Was Keck using your boatpaddle on his bomb? Luckily, Bethel got one from you . . . no, wait it was two wasn't it? Ironically, a first round matchup still to come. Should be interesting.

  16. QUOTE(confounded @ Apr 27 2007 - 10:10 PM) 826447213Who pitched for Columbia and Coffee County?

    Lincoln County and Tullahoma?

Brian Sharp (lefthander) pitched the shutout for Lincoln County.

  17. QUOTE(pops7 @ Apr 27 2007 - 08:59 PM) 826447168Lawrence County over Shelbyville 11 - 7. play in Lawrenceburg tomorrow.... any news about Lincoln County vs. Tullahoma

Coffee plays at 11, Lincoln plays at 1 . . . what time is Lawrenceburg's game? Also, we've been talking tiebreakers at the top, but it also looks like there could be a logjam at the bottom. A tense time for the play in game slots.

  18. QUOTE(pedo_29 @ Apr 27 2007 - 12:26 PM) 826446892First tiebreaker is obviously head-to-head....after that it goes to best record against the next highest seeded opponent....

Things could get interesting. Lincoln, Coffee, and Lawrence all split with each other. Going into this weekend's games Lincoln's other split was with Columbia, Lawrence split with Franklin Co, and Coffee split with Shelbyville. Depending on the outcomes this weekend, there could be ties all over the place.

  19. QUOTE(binns37388 @ Apr 24 2007 - 10:32 PM) 826444627Lincoln Co, Lawrence Co and Coffee Co are 7-3. Tullahoma and Shelbyville are 4-6. Franklin Co is 4-8 and Columbia is 3-7. If the season ended tonite, Franklin Co would host Columbia in the play-in game. Friday and Saturday, Lawrence Co plays Shelbyville, Tullahoma plays Lincoln Co and Coffee Co plays Columbia. Franklin Co is through with district play. Congrats to Coffee Co and Lawrence Co for sweeping their opponents and keeping pace with Lincoln Co. Its going down to the final games in the battle for the regular season championship. If the district were to end in a 3 way tie, I'm not sure what the tiebreaker rules are right now. I'll try to find out.

I know it's still early, but did you have any luck on finding out the tiebreaker rules?

  20. QUOTE(binns37388 @ Apr 18 2007 - 11:22 PM) 826440803Looks like we're back to a 3-way tie for first in District 8AAA, between Lincoln Co, Lawrence Co and Coffee Co. Lincoln Co is still the favorite because they have only 2 district games left with Tullahoma, while Lawrence Co and Coffee Co have 4 district games left. Lawrence Co has games left with Columbia and Shelbyville and Coffee has games with Franklin Co and Columbia. Franklin Co is hot right now having won at Lawrenceburg last week and sweeping Columbia this week. Tullahoma lost a non district game tonite against Marion Co 6-4. Shelbyville showed tonite that you can't look past the Golden Eagles. Tullahoma proved last week that they can't be taken lightly after scoring 5 runs in the 7th to beat Columbia. The regular season title, which includes a first round bye in the district tourney, probably will go down to the last day of the season.

WOW! This season is shaping up to be as good as it gets. Hats off to Lawrenceburg, for one game last night they were the best looking team in the district that we have faced here at Lincoln County. They smacked it around. I still like our chances due to the simple fact that we only have to play two more district games. Everyone is beating up on each other and it is survival of the fittest. The tournament is shaping up to be awesome! The two teams that come out of there will truly be survivors!

  21. QUOTE(ORANGEOWL @ Apr 18 2007 - 03:40 PM) 826440486He had 135 pitches for the 10 innings. He only had 1 inning where he faced 6 batters, the other 9 innings were fewer than 6 most being 4 batters an inning. He faced a total of 44 batters. I bet Scott Beasley would be ready to pitch today if they needed him.

Awesome! Thanks, we knew he threw a bunch. Somebody did tell us pretty much the same thing last night. "SUPERARM". He did a good job last night.

  22. QUOTE(pedo_29 @ Apr 18 2007 - 12:47 PM) 826440365I can't believe they would let their pitcher go to 160 pitches?.....

I don't want to throw stones, don't know how many for sure. Just a bunch of guys standing around and talking after the game. He did throw the entire 10 innings and Lincoln County had 15 hits, so he faced, what at least 45 batters or so plus any walks. Adds up to a bunch.

  23. QUOTE(ozzie smith @ Apr 18 2007 - 10:18 AM) 826440238Warhawk any details on the lincoln lawrence game; i didn`t get to make it . Sounds like it was a good one.

It was a very exciting high school game. Lincoln County did not play well at all, I have yet to see them play a good game at Lawrenceburg. They outhit Lawrence by like 15 to 5, just failed numerous times to get the big hit when they needed it. Also committed several errors. Lincoln scored one in the 7th to tie it, then in the 10th to win. I was disappointed in the umpiring as well. It's a shame that a key district game has to be umpired by guys who are not paying attention. The umpiring hurt both teams at key times. The Lawrence County pitcher had to throw at least 160 pitches. I think his name was Beasley and he pitched the whole game, gotta be wore out today. Just ready to reload and get back at it tonight. What happened in Columbia's game? I was surprised by that one!

  24. QUOTE(davidlimbaugh @ Apr 17 2007 - 11:05 PM) 826439994What are the current standings in 8AAA ???

Here are the current standings and remaining games . . .

    Lincoln County 7-2

    Lawrence Co (1) Tullahoma (2)

    Coffee County 5-2

    Shelbyville (1) Franklin Co (2) Columbia (2)

    Lawrence County 4-3

    Lincoln Co (1) Columbia (2) Shelbyville (2)

    Columbia 3-4

Franklin Co (1) Lawrence (2) Coffee Co (2)

    Shelbyville 3-4

Coffee Co (1) Tullahoma (2) Lawrence Co (2)

    Franklin County 3-6

    Columbia (1) Coffee Co (2)

    Tullahoma 2-6

    Shelbyville (2) Lincoln Co (2)

After head to head, does anyone know the tiebreakers in determining seeds for the tourney?

  25. QUOTE(E5 @ Apr 17 2007 - 01:25 PM) 826439485Make them forfeit all games played while scoreboard is in operation. Litigation will soon follow from several people, myself included. I think special rays or laser beams are coming out the board making my legs fall asleep and have made me shorter. I used to a strapping 5'8" and now I am barely taller than "backside bill."

This post is not meant to be taken seriously, I too think the "investigation" of the sign is crazy.

We have played at Oakland and I don't see anything wrong with the "sign". I would feel safe in saying that Oakland is like 99% of Tennessee's high school teams in that they have to get their money through booster clubs and advertisements. If high school teams in any sport relied only on the money that the school gave them, how much different would athletics be?
