  1. Nothing but congrats to Coffee County. You knew early on that somebody was gonna be heartbroken. Heck of a game, just not ready for it to be over. Both teams played their hearts out. We hope that Lawrence and Coffee do 8AAA proud, good luck to both. Lincoln County loses 8 special seniors. 3 of those . . . Cody Gaskill, Brandon Netherland, and Shamichael Black have been playing together since they were 6 years old. They, along with William Merritt will be continuing their careers as all have signed baseball scholarships. To #'s 1, 2, and 3 . . . thanks for the wonderful ride for the past 11 years. We know that there will be many more memories to come, though it will be different seeing you on opposite sides! Again, great game, congratulations to Coffee County, and good luck to Lawrence and Coffee!
  2. The tournament has been full of great games. Those who watched the district all year really expected nothing different. I'd say you would be hard pressed to find one better. Hopefully, there are still three to go and I am looking forward to watching. The three left were the top three finishers during the regular season, but they have all had to work their tails off to get where they are. It's another day, and it's a beautiful one!! That is what it is all about.
  3. I think if you would take the time to read before responding, you wouldn't have to waste your time writing. I have not seen anyone blame the outcome on the umpires. The only thing being mentioned is umpires not knowing the rules. No ifs, ands, or buts . . . that is not excusable. This ballgame was a very enjoyable game, with both teams playing well and playing their hearts out. Granted, a game is made up of numerable opportunities and you have to take advantage of them. When you've got two teams playing for a region berth you should have umpires that know the rules, bottom line. Hats off to Lawrenceburg, great win. Hopefully, Lincoln County will get another shot.
  4. Don't want to get too long winded, but on the rules call, here was the play . . . Runner on 2nd no outs. Grounder to shortstop, runner breaks, throw to third, rundown. Both runners are on second, no one passed and no tag, runner goes back to first. Throw to first gets away, lead runner goes to third. Runners on first and third (?). After conferring, umpires call runner on first out. After being questioned on the call, umpires determine that the lead runner is out and award the trailing runner second base. A tag was never made and the trailing runner never passed the lead runner. No rules were broken. Instead of having runners on first and third with no outs, the umpires DECIDED that there should be a runner on second with one out. They had no clue and it was obvious, especially when they awarded the trailing runner second base. Blown judgement calls are a part of baseball, but not knowing the rules in INEXCUSABLE. Go get Coffee County tonight Falcons. No excuses!
  5. This reaks of Binns making excuses for his guys. I've got no argument over a judgement call, and the "double play" was a judgement call. The other was a flat out rule call and the umpires DID NOT know the rules. Granted, he may have felt bad after the game, but I guarantee you that there were a lot of people with a lot riding on the game who felt worse. A game of this magnitude deserves umpires who know the rules. Umpires in a district tournament game should know the rules. The call that was made was wrong and the umpires not having a clue on the rules is INEXCUSABLE. The way that the umpires placed the runner after their decision simply proved that they didn't know what they were doing. Binns, I know you were at the game and with the obvious confusion of the umpires I would have expected better communication, even if it meant you getting involved. That play did not lose the game, but in a one-run game, and with the situation being what it was, man, it sure was critical. Congratulations to Lawrence County. Both teams played well, and yes, Lincoln County had better be ready to play tonight. Hope to see you again!
  6. Both teams look to be playing well and it is a beautiful day for baseball. This is what it's all about, hope to have a good crowd. These two have shown to be the two best in the district.
  7. Thank you David! Your time and efforts are appreciated!
  8. I know Matt is your centerfielder, what position does Holden play? Just trying to put faces with the names. On Lincoln County's bunch, Gaskill SS, Black 2B, Netherland CF, and Merrit RF.
  9. I am anxious to hear the replies on this topic. I am hearing that Motlow's coach has really been working 8AAA, trying to keep the good local players here. He has been to several of Lincoln County's games and I have been able to speak to him some. Seems like a good guy who is wanting to build Motlow back up. I have heard of several 8AAA players that he is targeting and if he can get a good percentage of them, Motlow could get back headed in the right direction.
  10. Lincoln County has four . . . Cody Gaskill was an early signee with Calhoun and yesterday morning Shamichael Black, Brandon Netherland, and William Merrit signed with Motlow.
  11. Heard that Lincoln County plays at 1:30 Saturday vs the winner of Coffee County/play in winner.
  12. Would it be the same one that was pinch hit for in all 3 of the Bethel games? Is it starting to come out?
  13. I would just be thrilled if walkoff got a life! Get over it, and do us all a favor and get out of Coach T. I'm sure that a person of your knowledge could find a better use for it.
  14. Hopefully we'll know something this morning. I saw something in The Columbia Daily Herald this morning that I think was totally wrong. It listed 3 "play in" games to get to a 4 team double elimination. I'm understanding that it will be totally different.
  15. Hello . . . Walkoff? You still there? Was Keck using your boatpaddle on his bomb? Luckily, Bethel got one from you . . . no, wait it was two wasn't it? Ironically, a first round matchup still to come. Should be interesting.

Brian Sharp (lefthander) pitched the shutout for Lincoln County.

Coffee plays at 11, Lincoln plays at 1 . . . what time is Lawrenceburg's game? Also, we've been talking tiebreakers at the top, but it also looks like there could be a logjam at the bottom. A tense time for the play in game slots.

Things could get interesting. Lincoln, Coffee, and Lawrence all split with each other. Going into this weekend's games Lincoln's other split was with Columbia, Lawrence split with Franklin Co, and Coffee split with Shelbyville. Depending on the outcomes this weekend, there could be ties all over the place.

I know it's still early, but did you have any luck on finding out the tiebreaker rules?

WOW! This season is shaping up to be as good as it gets. Hats off to Lawrenceburg, for one game last night they were the best looking team in the district that we have faced here at Lincoln County. They smacked it around. I still like our chances due to the simple fact that we only have to play two more district games. Everyone is beating up on each other and it is survival of the fittest. The tournament is shaping up to be awesome! The two teams that come out of there will truly be survivors!

Awesome! Thanks, we knew he threw a bunch. Somebody did tell us pretty much the same thing last night. "SUPERARM". He did a good job last night.

I don't want to throw stones, don't know how many for sure. Just a bunch of guys standing around and talking after the game. He did throw the entire 10 innings and Lincoln County had 15 hits, so he faced, what at least 45 batters or so plus any walks. Adds up to a bunch.

It was a very exciting high school game. Lincoln County did not play well at all, I have yet to see them play a good game at Lawrenceburg. They outhit Lawrence by like 15 to 5, just failed numerous times to get the big hit when they needed it. Also committed several errors. Lincoln scored one in the 7th to tie it, then in the 10th to win. I was disappointed in the umpiring as well. It's a shame that a key district game has to be umpired by guys who are not paying attention. The umpiring hurt both teams at key times. The Lawrence County pitcher had to throw at least 160 pitches. I think his name was Beasley and he pitched the whole game, gotta be wore out today. Just ready to reload and get back at it tonight. What happened in Columbia's game? I was surprised by that one!

Here are the current standings and remaining games . . . Lincoln County 7-2 Lawrence Co (1) Tullahoma (2) Coffee County 5-2 Shelbyville (1) Franklin Co (2) Columbia (2) Lawrence County 4-3 Lincoln Co (1) Columbia (2) Shelbyville (2) Columbia 3-4 Franklin Co (1) Lawrence (2) Coffee Co (2) Shelbyville 3-4 Coffee Co (1) Tullahoma (2) Lawrence Co (2) Franklin County 3-6 Columbia (1) Coffee Co (2) Tullahoma 2-6 Shelbyville (2) Lincoln Co (2) After head to head, does anyone know the tiebreakers in determining seeds for the tourney?
  25. We have played at Oakland and I don't see anything wrong with the "sign". I would feel safe in saying that Oakland is like 99% of Tennessee's high school teams in that they have to get their money through booster clubs and advertisements. If high school teams in any sport relied only on the money that the school gave them, how much different would athletics be?
