  1. Now it comes out. I thought I sensed some sour grapes. I'm not a coach, just a supporter of what I feel is a fine school. I hope things work out well for you. Obviously you are at a place that is a much better fit for you!

Yeah, just watching the scores it looks like they are being inconsistent. This is normally the time of year that Pickle has them going well. I'm sure they'll get straightened out.

Columbia and Lincoln sweep while Coffee and Shelbyville split.

Franklin over Lawrence? WOW! Everyone has at least two losses, things get tighter.

What about Lawrence and Franklin? I'm not seeing anything anywhere.
  6. "Played against Keck?" Where are you playing now? Jilted? Fifth is definitely an improvement when comparing to previous seasons. Granted, 15 of Keck's 37 hits are HR, but those 37 hits have produced 50 RBIs with a batting average of .293. I think most would consider that a decent freshman season. I have heard that Keck is really enjoying his time at Bethel. If you have seen the field this season you would have noticed the tremendous changes/improvements to both the surroundings and the playing field itself.

Lawrence County finishes up with Lincoln County, Columbia, and Shelbyville. Interesting second half!!!!
  8. I think if you would do a little checking you would see differently. Up until 6-8 years ago Bethel did not have much of a program, but has shown steady improvement since. They are on pace this year to set a school record for victories and have already had two break the single season home run record this year. They are more competetive than ever this year, their first in the tougher Transouth Conference. They are currently in fifth place. I think they are on track!!
  9. Lincoln County's Cody Gaskill was an early signee with Calhoun (#5 in this week's NJCAA poll) and Shamichael Black has committed to Vol State.

In my years of watching 8AAA I think you would be hardpressed to find a more competetive district from top to bottom, year to year. Looks like '07 is shaping up to be another and arguments can be made for everyone. It has been a treat to watch. Thanks guys!

How does everyone stand now in the district? Lincoln County is 4-1 after last night's W.
  12. Hayes is playing. He is pitching in the Transouth Conference for Bethel. Not doing too bad, but surely not dominating. He pitched a three hitter and lost against Trevecca on Saturday.

Anyone know the district schedule for the week? Lincoln plays Coffee . . .

I'll second that last sentence. Two in a row that went down to the last out. Wouldn't be surprised if these two see each other again down the road. Lincoln County now gets to play Bartlett, Collierville, and Oakland before we load up for another round of district play. I guess if we don't sweep the "what's wrong with Lincoln County" questions will pop up again. I'll answer ahead of time . . . nothing. They have a group that enjoys each other and the game overall. They've lost only to quality teams so far this year. Split with Columbia in two of the most even, exciting, and for the most part well played high school games you will see. To me, that's what it's about. Enjoyed the Columbia series and now we've got Coffee County next week, tied with the Falcons at 3-1 in the district I believe. Keep on enjoying an interesting 8AAA season!
  15. I am going to put columbiaguy's own Mark Pickle in there. Year after year his team is better at the end than they were going in. Thay may not always have the best talent, but they know how to play the game and you know they will be tough at the end. Pickle is a class guy who does things the right way!

Saw on another thread where Lawrence beat Coffee. No undefeateds left. That is what makes 8AAA such a treat to be a part of. Has to be one of the most even and competetive districts around. We get the big rematch tonight at Columbia tonight, then everyone steps back, reloads, and gets ready for another "big" week next week. Health and good luck to every team, it is a blessing to be a part of it!! Thank you to all of the players.

Let me second that. Lincoln County's four losses have come to the #4 and #5 ranked teams in Florida, Beech, and Columbia. They have had double digit hit totals in all losses except Beech. They do have a few spots in the order that have not come through in clutch times. They are playing fine, playing hard, just don't have any shut down pitching. Baseball dropped a little in priority last night. Gaskill, their shortstop, was the tying run in the bottom of the seventh after an RBI double. He went to third on a pitch in the dirt, slid headfirst, the ball rolled into the corner, and he couldn't move. He laid on the ground for about 15 minutes unable to move or feel anything. His head jammed into the third baseman's thigh. Apparently an old fashioned "stinger". Doctors say his neck is sprained and he will likely miss some time. Let me again echo that Lincoln County will be fine, it is early, and the best is yet to come.

Yeah, this is what 8AAA baseball is about. Nothing but respect for Coach Pickle and his bunch. Looking for two exciting and hard played games.

They split 4 games in Florida. It was a wonderful trip, great teams, beautiful facilities . . . it was a real treat for the team. The two teams they lost to are ranked 4 and 5 in the state. One of these was Tallahassee Chiles which has a baseball budget of $250,000 with 5 coaches on the payroll. They also have the best overall high school facility that I have seen. It was a very enjoyable time, but it is good to be back in Tennessee and ready to crank it up.

Here is the correct info. Gaskill was pitching in this game during the district tournament and Black was playing shortstop. Black was ejected and he did sit out the first two games of this season. The Falcons opened their season in Florida during their spring break.
