  1. Nuggets for this game:

-McCallie's last win at Baylor's campus came 8 years ago

-Both Qb's making their first B/M start

    -70% chance of rain

-Contrary to what a cocky (yet very well done and creative) video may suggest- Baylor is 6-1 in the last 6 years including a playoff win over blue

Anywho, I'll echo what was said earlier- don't remember a Baylor McCallie matchup that was so close on paper in recent years. I think depth is going to be a huge key.  Baylor wins if the D stays off the field.  McCallie wins if they take care of the ball. HOT TAKE!

  2. Pulling hard for Baylor as always but realistic prediction:

    Baylor 14

    MBA    38

MBA is just rolling right now and the revenge aspect will add a little more to their steam.  That #44 kid looked solid against McCallie last week. Baylor will need some help via turnovers if they pull the upset.

Minus the McCallie game offensive no-show (can't beat em every year), solid season from Baylor with less talent and some key injuries.

  3. Owlbooster- My only point in saying that was that it's hard to win on the road in this league.  Nothing about refs, buses, crowd noise etc.  However I disagree that BA riding a bus vs MUS going to class is an advantage.  I think if you asked BA, they would go to class all day if it meant they get to play in Nashville. But hey, just my opinion.

  4. Semi's: Baylor @ MBA

                 BA      @ Ensworth

    Finals: BA over MBA

As good as Ensworth is, its hard to beat a team like BA twice.  (Not that it hasn't been done before). Baylor has some contributors back from injury and finished the season strong even in their losses.  If McCallie was better on defense I think they would be a good pick to host Baylor in the semis- a T$$AA dream scenario.

6 teams? No. Seems more like 3 though there has been more parity this year.

Father Ryan @ Baylor could be the most intriguing early matchup as I think either of those 2 could make a decent run.  BA being on the road at MUS could level that to a close game for at least a half.

  5. I agree with your playoff thoughts, I also think at a minimum they should seed d2AA 1-12 it is a joke that two teams in the west get a bye most years they dont deserve two byes.

also if things go as you say baylor and mccallie would both host in the first round and then travel in the second round.

all it would really take is for bga to upset mccallie and if everything else went as it should baylor would be 4 seed and mccallie 6 and they would meet at baylor in first round.

Ah thats right. For red, the last 3 first round opponents have either been bye's or lesser teams so I must have overlooked that. Thanks for pointing that out. Either way, looks like there are some great games to look forward to down the stretch

  6. Shakinthefat-I agree 100% on playoff opinion. Even if they just jumped straight to the semi-finals I would be alright with it as long as it meant there was a qualifying process. O well, thats the T$$AA for you. Anywho, as a red guy I really hope they dont have to see blue again in the playoffs. Fortunetly, the odds of that happening are so slim. Both teams will beat and lose to the same ones throughout the regular season DII schedule. Both have beaten Ryan, both have lost or will lose to BA, MBA, and Ensworth. One will travel to memphis the first round, the other to Nashville. They'd be on opposite sides of the bracket and wouldnt see each other until Cookeville. Which is a dream for both schools this year.

  7. Great game. I really want to commend both schools for their exemplary dedication to diversity in athletics. Few schools in our state can afford to assemble such an impressive number of students who, both large and small, can run the 40 in D1 completive times. It is truly an impressive and enviable accomplishment.

You can take that argument to another thread

  8. I've been reading a lot of posts regarding Ensworth's TD calls that put them up for good against BA and Baylor and how they were both blown calls by the officials. Under further review, I found that both may be completely justified.

While Cory Batey's foot DID come out of bounds, he was forced out by the DB. The force out rule still exists in high school and as I learned tonight, so do 5 yard face masks.

Here's a screen shot of the catch against BA, it look like #5 has made contact with the WR before he stepped out of bounds.

Regarding David Dingess' catch against Baylor in the back of the endzone, it appears like he had full possession and was in bounds. I don't have the highlights yet but I can post them tomorrow.

Here's a pic from highschoolsports.net, no feet but it sure looks like he has the ball. A friend who was watching the TV feed in the pressbox said the replay showed it as a catch. Duel possession goes to the offense.

    bilde.jpeg

It sure looks like he has the ball? Is that a joke? And I'm sure your friend in orange and black saw it as a catch as well. Post the highlights because everybody else on the other threads has said the kid was out.

  9. A great team, but sadly for both Ensworth and Baylor (and even Brentwood Academy) fans will always go back and look at the calls. Ensworth did what they needed to do tonight in the second half to make Baylor stumble, but people wont forget the calls last week or tonight. But make no mistake, no one can BLAME ensworth. Heck, I'd take those calls too. But I hope they realize that yes, as good a team as they were, they were very lucky.

  10. The TSSAA will be hearing about this one. From what a lot of people say, it shouldn't have even been Ensworth in the title game due to a horrible call last week, then, to decide the game like that tonight? What a joke. Someone wake these officials up and tell them its not Week 3. Let this one go into OT and see who wins, but dont call it like that. Highly frustrating. Yet, I do think Ensworth is the best team in the state, but both teams played well enough to win. Baylor should have put it away in the 3rd.

  11. I am not a BA fan, just someone who feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to see those young men play this year. I am also fortunate to have seen Baylor play and am looking forward to a great championship game in DII-AA. For that matter, I have also enjoyed watching the young men who represent both BGA and McCallie. To the extent that I overreacted, I apologize - I just have a real problem when someone sitting behind a keyboard publicly disrespects the efforts of any amateur athlete. Those kids could have spent last night playing video games rather than laying it on the line and I think they are all due a tremendous amount of respect, whatever school you cheer for. I accept that rollredraiders10 did not mean any disrespect in his/her post and will move on.

Red robin- no one said the BA kids aren't laying it on the line. But if you ask anybody not from BA, 9 times out of 10 they'll say BA didnt look like they had the fire at times this year. That team has too much talent and too good of a coach. Not saying all the time, but yes at times BA looked a little less motivated. Ya you guys got a bad draw thanks to the TSSAA but this doesnt have to do with the playoffs.

  12. Didnt get to catch the Baylor at BGA game earlier this year so I couldnt say much at BGA. Other than they turned the ball over 5 times and had a bit of a "garbage" score at the end. Defensvily for baylor, its the same- defend the pass, make them try and beat you running, because in that case its a win. They cant let BGA throw it around. Huesman put the team on his back against mccallie, look for others to have big games friday as well, including freshman george porter. Recievers Deosha McColley and Charbo Clark showed signs of greatness last game, hopefully all of this can continue. As a sidenote of trivia- does anyone know the last time baylor has hosted a semi final game? ( fyi, I dont know, thats why im asking)

  13. The Spirit God spoke to the Troll in the woods this mornin'. emoticon-char-045.gif

Said, "Region 3 shall rise again! The three privates, Baylor North, Baylor South, Boyd, and their little redneck buddies at South Pitt and Copper Basin is all movin' on to the Semi's!"

Well...recon for Baylor South that's the Finals. Troll sez, see you in CookeVegas!:thumb:

Mountain troll-Thank you? As a quick sidenote I think everyone from Baylor will be looking forward to a signal loss to trousdale but your thoughtful post is much appreciated and good luck to your players. As for BGA- like we saw with mccallie, its hard to be even a half-way decent team twice. But a less emontion-filled game as far as the rivalry aspect goes. Look for BGA to come out swinging.

  14. Hello Skin the fat. Dont count us out so fast. We lost to Baylor earlier at our house by 13 points, we had 5 turnover. Never underestimate heart and desire. We will for sure give it all we got next week in Chatt. Bring your popcorn because I have enjoyed mine all year. Come get you some. Go Wildcats.

You know that game was a lot worse than the score indicated. Defense caused those turnovers. Come to heywood...get YOU some....btw our popcorn is delicious

  15. Bluemom ya'll only have like a 20 minute trip tops. The dressing room has nothing to do with anything. If McCallie gets a new away dressing room maybe then they'll start hosting b/m? As a sidenote- lets hope we dont have the same crew that did this game in 2008 at baylor.

  16. You are right BigOwl it can be priceless to win at home or away against your rival. I know my son relishes the Blue victory in double OT there a few years ago. I did ask some of our boys about their preference last year and their response was anytime, anyplace, anywhere. Some did have concerns about family and friends being able to get tickets.

The amount of work is only one concern in my mind. I was simply bored and running the #'s as I was attempting to find out our ticket sales are to be handled. Most football programs would be hard pressed to walk away from the extra money.

Still looking for tickets. According to Baylor site, no gate sales so will try to get by their store today!

I think if you ask any of the kids in blue would rather play at baylor. Talk about quiet and a lot less intense- finley stadium. And its not like Baylor's got that small of a stadium. Your kids will get tickets for their families. In fact, I expect a smaller crowd than b/m last year. Anyways,- any chance lusk will start?

  17. #16 certainly had some impressive stats. He definitely brings a true option to the table. The Blue was able to rack up 404 yards in offense but more importantly protected the ball and limited penalties. We absolutely need a repeat.

I listened to the game on my handy dandy netbook and only suffered a major case of heartburn and a small amount of caffeine overload. I couldn't get to sleep until 1am and my golden now knows a few new words! It was awesome!

I feel we need to protect the ball and can best handle Huesman by running a very good option and let him occupy his sideline! Ball control and flawless execution are key.

Any hope of going to Finley?

    Go Blue!!!

Haha sorry blue mom, no hope on Finley. This game makes me more nervous than anything. In the first game I felt like Baylor didnt really open up their offense in the first b/m matchup- mostly because they didnt need to. But this is a whole new game, McCallie has nothing to lose. You can bet anything they wont be playing conservative and from baylor's standpoint its a scary thing. Lose this game and you dont live it down. Playoffs on the line and a rivalry game...everyone that shows up to that game will know who the better team is already. Just a matter of baylor's mental game that will decide this one.

  18. Sort of a pointless statement, harkening back to a "debate" we had on here several years back about how ridiculous it was that the D2 championships one year were held on the Tuesday night before Thanksgiving, and not televised, or even(if memory serves) available for streaming on the internet. One silly poster tried to argue that advertising decisions were the reason why the games weren't televised. We are all in the biggest markets, so (if advertising were somehow a factor here, which it isn't) we'd be the most desirable from among the various championship game options to sponsor/televise. So it must be something else.

Ah I see now, my apologies. And I agree I wish they would have the DII championship games on the weekends just like the public schools.

  19. Any chance coffee and doughnuts will be available also? Maybe just provide a styrofoam cup and have an honor system.

Maybe we can hear more of the "world according to Rick" and how advertisers across the globe have poured over our attendance figures at corporate headquarters and pressured the networks to move the game to Thursday. Even our Blount County friends can't top Rick's work.

Just to point out...major markets in Tennessee: Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga. Teams with the best shots at winning this thing: MBA, BA, EHS (Nashville); Baylor (Chattanooga); CBHS, MUS (Memphis).

I dont understand your point with major markets....all DII AA schools are right outside or in the middle of a big city. Also, I have no idea why anyone on Baylor's side would want to see another B/M matchup. You wanna talk about pressure? McCallie's got nothing to lose. A scary week for Baylor leading up to the game if it happens, which it probably will because the West is a joke this year especially. The best thing the TSSAA could do is combine the 2 and have them play in regular season.

Ps landro- your id isnt hard to figure out, but good job keeping your posts on the neutral side

  20. I think a lot of people are wondering if Baylor will snap out of some dream sequence they may be in. A loss before the playoffs could do wonders for a team and coming from a Baylor alum, I'd obviously rather seem them lose now rather than later. But at the same time, a lots at stake, #1 seed for the playoffs and home field, where Baylor has lost just one game in the last 2 seasons. We know Baylor's for real now, but I wonder if they can keep it going.
