You can go to www.tngirlsbasketball.org and click on the 2011 state tab and find out who won in all age groups, but I will give the ones I know. 5th grade D1: TN Trotters-1st, TN Team Pride-2nd, Nashville Select-3rd, TN Flight Select-4th. I am pretty sure that the Trotters also won the 4th Grade Division.
Thanks for the results - and yes, I'm familiar with the website. My post was more to point out that there was no mention at all of the State tournament - which is supposed to be a big deal. Normally there is some sort of chatter, updates, comments, SOMETHING. In the past there would be posts about standout players, coaches, programs - anymore this is just a message board to announce tryouts and tournaments. Maybe this is indicative of the general non-interest or decline in AAU girls basketball???

Tennessee Girls AAU State Tournament was this past weekend for the younger age groups and no chatter on CoachT? Sad day.

Jerry Codispoti, I don't know anything about him just got his name from
the Tn Girls Basketball website.
It is my understanding he is a coach in the Lady Trotters program

It is what it is - a single game to spotlight SOME of the state's best middle school football players. First off, college scouts aren't going to be sold on a kid who stands out on an 8th grade level. A kid may get noticed, may be put on a list to watch and see - but I seriously doubt this game is going to make or break an 8th grader's college career. If your child was selected, congratulations. Go play, have fun and represent. If your child wasn't selected, or didn't know about the tryouts, big deal. He will still go play in high school, and if he is good enough will pave his way from there. If the kid has talent, he will get noticed - regardless of whether or not he played in the "All-Star" game in 8th grade. The players chosen were the best of the kids who tried out. Period. No doubt that those kids are standouts. No doubt that there are players who are as good OR BETTER than the ones on the team but for whatever reason they didn't try out - didn't know about tryouts, committed to another sports team (baseball, basketball, track) or had another obligation during that time (vacations, camps) etc.
This is similar to exposure tournaments in basketball. Nowadays, kids have to be marketed to some degree to attract the attention of college scouts. This is just another vehicle to get noticed. Don't knock the organizers for providing an opportunity for these boys to showcase their talents, and don't be offended if your kid isn't on the team. It doesn't mean that your kid isn't good enough - (because, at the end of the day, don't we all think our kid is the best?) And remember, sports, like everything else, is political. The sooner you realize that and learn to navigate through it, the better advocate you will be for your kid. If they've got it, they've got it - the rest will take care of itself.

I think y'all have forgotten Lauren Avant. She's also one of the best in the country, let alone the state.
Is Lauren Avant a senior?

2008-2009 TSSAA Handbook
Article III Compliance (Page 17)
Enforcement:
Section 4: The Executive Director shall, in his discretion, determine whether information about any possible violation of the TSSAA Constitution or Bylaws is sufficiently reliable to justify "further" investigation. The Executive Director shall also, "in his discretion", determine whether to conduct any investigation of possible violations of the Constitution or Bylaws as well as the nature and extent of any investigation that may be conducted and the procedures to be used in any such investigation. Factors to be considered by the Executive Director in making these determinations may include, but are not limited to, the workload of the TSSAA office, the seriousness of the alleged violation, the availability of staff members to assist in any investigation, the cost of investigation, the time needed to conduct an investigation, and any other factor the Executive Director may deem releveant in making these decisions.
Many infractions are reported to the TSSAA probably on a weekly basis; however, you can submit tons of documents; photos, videos, receipts, emails, real estate documents, text messages, etc. but if "the Executive Director" chooses to not "investigate it".....it is a dead issue, no matter what the "proof" may be. A thorough and full investigation takes a LONG time to complete---it is not a "10-day process". The 10-day process involves a few phone calls to the utility boards, landlords, the principal--maybe a few meetings at the school involved or a couple of cigars over a drink or too; and then a decision is made. A "full investigation" would take a VERY LONG time. As you can read in the bylaws above--sometimes they choose NOT to take this route and therefore; the issue is dead. IMO, this does NOT mean that the incident did not take place or that the "proof" was not there---it just means that "for whatever reason---they may choose to look the other way" or the TSSAA "just cannot "afford" a lengthy investigation--it's not in the budget, etc.
Who knows what will happen regarding this particular MJ video--but 95% of coaches and school administration will tell you---that nothing will probably be done about it--regardless of whether the "rules" have been violated or what the video shows. One would believe that it is an "open and shut" case, but who knows? Stranger things have happened.
And that, my friends, is EXACTLY why the poster chose to break the news on here - so if there are no repercussions at least the coach in question will be exposed.

Elementary my dear Watson.
Puzzle solved. Case closed.

???A maximum of three (3) athletes from bordering Districts will be allowed on any team at the District, Regional or
National level.

Anyone know results from the Southeast Challenge this past weekend in Murfreesboro? I don't see results on the Team Pride website yet - I can only find the schedule.
-
So who will advance to Nationals? I know the top 4 advance, but I think some qualified by winning SRT tournaments. Do any of the 5th - 8th teams advance?
-
Just wondered if all of you in the know can tell us how you expect it to go this weekend?
Full of Pride. Team Pride & Lady Pride in the championships on Sunday. Not that I'm in the know - just my best guess.
-
I just viewed the state brackets at tngirlsbasketball.net. How are the overall seed #s determined? I don't see how you can say one team is seeded higher than another if the teams haven't played this year. And it doesn't look to be based on state results from last year. Maybe Nationals results ??? Can anyone shed some light?
-
If anyone knows any scores of the east substate in any age group, please share with us.
Were there any other substate tournaments played this past weekend?

QUOTE(dontusee91 @ Jun 7 2007 - 07:28 AM) 826472464[/snapback]Don't get me wrong BallerZ. I wish girls or boys couldn't play up at all. Maybe my wording was wrong, I was just saying that alot of talented boys and girls (and some that are not) feel the need to play in older age groups because they (or their parents) don't feel challenged. You are right about not standing out. I saw a couple of players this year that were dominant last year and decided to play up this year and they seemed to have taken a step back and didn't look like they had improved at all. Probably because as you say, their practice time as well as playing time was reduced because they were playing up. I didn't mean it to sound like there were no good ten year olds, but I guess that is how it sounded once I read my own post. Sorry.
Thanks for clarifying. I just wanted to make sure we didn't discount the girls who play in their own age groups - as statewide I have seen some really good teams and talented girls in the 10U program. As was said, there are some 10s who can more than hang with the 11s. And there are probably some who are playing up who shouldn't be there. I guess it will all sort out once they start playing school ball - where there are multiple grades on one team.
-
That's not necessarily true. There are a number of outstanding 10 year old girls who play in the 10U age group. Playing up doesn't automatically make someone a better athlete. You could argue that there is more competition (although I have seen 10 year old teams who beat 11 year old teams on a regular basis, and can compete with the 12s - where's the competition there?), but you also may sacrifice playing time by playing up an age group. I would also argue that a 10 year old playing up would find it more difficult to stand out. You can't make a generalization that "most" who would be considered play up. If we are naming a 10U "All-State" team, let's stick with those who play in the 10U age group.
