  1. Columbia has the toughest schedule they have ever had. Oakland, siegel, and Brentwood Academy in the pre-season. And in regular season they have Riverdale, BGA, Independence, Centennial, and Smyrna. After losing such strong players last year and having many freshmen this year, it will be interesting how this young team will stack up.

I think Columbia lost the Wilson girl and 4 other starters. It will be hard to replace her

  2. Only two teams have come into sub-state play with two straight shutouts, they are CAK and Giles County. No doubt that FRA is by far the best team that GC has faced, but I'm telling you that goals will not be that easy to come by. If CPA beat FRA then there is a chance for GC to beat them as well. I don't think it will happen, but they have a shot. GC has a couple of threats up top as well, one with speed and one with power, they will get a couple of good scoring chances. Also watch GC defender Aymett. She is a physical player who will initiate contact with the big three of FRA.

GC is slow in the midfield and that will be where FRA has a big upperhand. I believe that on paper FRA wins the game 3-1, but this game is played with heart, and I promise you that FRA will not play any harder than GC.

I am sure GC will play hard. One thing is if you go to Eurosport Scoreboard and look at the schedules. It will hurt GC playing the likes of Loretto, Wayne County, Forrest and Richland. FR plays a much tougher schedule than GC and it will show. Good luck to both teams

  3. If FRA can find the field, they'll win the contest. This will be a very interesting road trip for you!!!!

Well one of FRA's forwards is an Arkansas State signee The other is a junior and will be a college prospect. The midfielder is headed to Alabama to play soccer. They are very fast up top and in the midfield. It might even get worst than that.

  4. What tough luck for GC. Win a tough region only to have to face FRA. Oh well. On paper FRA has got to be the big favorites, they have more shutouts I think than GC has wins. What makes them so good? Do their forwards have great speed, is their defense solid and what kind of keeper do they have?

Don't count out GC. While they do not have the talent other teams may have from top to bottom they are playing well together. Defense has gone 200 + minutes without allowing a goal and just put up a brick wall vs CA tonight. GC will have a chance providing that the defense of FRA lacks speed and the forwards of FRA have speed. FRA may very well win the game but I believe it will be tougher than most on here predict.

I say 6-0. FRA will be steaming. GC has not faced anyone like FRA.

  5. Abigail Aymett. Senior Defender for Giles County. All-District, District 12 all-tourney, region 6 A-AA. District 12 tourney Defensive MVP.

Heather Holley. Jr Forward for Giles County.

The goal keeper for Columbia Academy, Brittain is her first name. One of the best keepers in the state in my opinion.

Britain is an ecellent gk. My daughters team scrimmaged Giles County and beat them 9=0. I didn't recall anyone on GC's team being all state calibar

  6. I'm not sure that I truly agree with that. MaGavock has 2,800 students, yet their not what I would call a soccer powerhouse. Norte Dame has a little over 500 students, yet they can kick alot of AAA schools butts. Why is CAK (408 Students) and ND so good.....Club players and quality club players plus an attitude and self confidence that they are going to win each time they take the field.

But Hey...I've not seen Tullahoma play....If it's because the other schools are larger and have more players to choose from, Well so be it.

I would prefer 15 club players over 30 in numbers

  7. she bumped heads with someone and was a little whoozy after it, but fine today.

I didnt say it was the clock operator's deal, i just wanted to know about the seconds that came off the clock when they shouldnt have

It was actually a mild concussion.

  8. The columbia player had time to get the shot off. I think it was amatter of getting to the spot on the field were the kick was going to take place. This was at the end of the game and she had to be really tired. She got the shot off and it went wide right.

She got it off after time had expired. It would have not counted if it had went in.

  9. Good for Cookeville. To clarify, revise and extend my remarks. I agree completely with the importance of club ball to a successful HS program. My point was that it seemed that folks were taking shots at Shelbyville and Tullahoma when they have had good club programs. As Cookeville can testify, there are cycles where numbers involved go up and then go down. It sounds like Cookeville is coming out of a down cycle. I thiink Columbia may be coming out of a down cycle as well. Good luck to all.

    Nice post Keeperfan. Well said

  10. haley sloan also is going to UTC and our goalie chelsea jackson went for a visit to UTC last weekend too

That is the point mjuhb. Tullahoma, Shelbyville and Columbia may have one or two, as the other distict has a roster full of club players and college prospects

  11. Vandy I wish more Middle school and High school coaches would recommend club ball during the off season. Regardless of whether it's a D-3 team or a D-1 team. I know it's got to make their job as coaches easier knowing that your team can go straight into teaching tactics and not skills.

Although I think "G" is the one to answner this one.

MVM, there is no other reason. We both said it at the same time. You are exactly right. It has to be started in the younger years and parents have to make that commitment. I know for a fact, it is very time consumng and expensive.

  12. He who has the most club players will win.

If both teams are loaded with club players (like Riverdale and Siegel are and other teams around the state) than it's just a plain ole dog fight and makes for great games and great soccer.

I think I read that somewhere

  13. Why is it that one district is so much better than the other. Is it enrollment, coaches, facilities what? Shelbyville has played Riverdale twice and it hasn't been close. What do they have that Shelbyville or Columbia doesn't? What can these teams do to pull off the upset? I had a guy come by my office today and say that it doesn't matter who wins the District 8AAA, they can't get out of the region. Comments?

One reason is that the other district has many Divison One Club players on it. Look at Riverdale. I believe it is the Smith girl is going to UTC. Shelbyville or Columbia has no players signed or committed. The difference between division one and two is tremendous.

  14. Yeah this is true. I won't give my thoughts on Columbia though this time. I will just say I hope Tullahoma can get through them to get to Shelbyville. I thought so too? You are right though, it's not listed....?

CChap, Please give us your thoughts on Columbia. I think the Tullahoma vs Columbia game will be hard fought just like the first one. It will be interesting

  15. That's not exactly the way it went down. Kayla did have 2 legitimate goals. She scored early when she slipped out of the middle of the field and had a breakaway. Her second goal she shot from way outside before anyone had a chance to converge on her and the keeper was unable to get a hand on it. Her fourth goal, she was offsides and it was not called. Goal number three can be attributed to the side judge which let the game get out of hand. She blatantly pushed down the fullback in the corner on the sideline then kicked across the front of the net and got a good bounce. Kayla appeared to be frustrated with the coverage she was getting and ended up finally getting a foul called on her after taking the fullback down on a later play. Unfortunately, it was out of hand by then. I heard after the game that the little Columbia fullback was running with a hip and ribs hurting from the takedowns, yet was still keeping up with Kayla. Just wanted a more complete representation other than just looking a box score. I'm not going to blame Kayla...I know she is a good player. It was more this one side judge in particular as most of these issues were happening in front of him.

It was a great game to watch, Shelbyville scored quickly. Columbia went up 2-1. Columbia apparently went up 3-1 on a header, but was called off sides. The ref's completely let this one get out of control. Great game Shelbyville and Columbia.

  16. well 1st of all i assume the jv game is at 5

i think it will be 4 to 3 or 2 shelbyville

the kayla's work to well together and kaitlin buchanan speed on the right flank will be to much for tullahoma

the only problem shelbyville will have is marking zoe johnson

columbia pretty much shut her down by pluging all gaps and playing good help defense thats something shelbyville doesn't do that well

    Mhuhb,

How do you think the Shelbyville vs. Columbia game will go this Saturday?

  17. I will make a prediction and say Shelbyville will surprise everyone and win the district. Lookin good in practice and they will have no pressure on them to win the district this year. Columbia no.2, Tullahoma no.3.

I agree. Kayla Warren and company will be strong. I would say Shelbyville is the favorite

  18. CHS is for Central high school aka columbia. the pre-season will have a little peek at 7 and 8 Columbia will play Riverdale. I know it is only pre-season but will be a peek. Columbia will find out fast what they are made of the first 10 days they play Independence then go to Oak Ridge and play some very tough teams. So we will have our answer quick. not to mention the other pre-esason game Brentwood academy.

I think beyond their first 6 or 7 players, they will be lacking.

  19. So we are going to penalize the schools that don't have a dedicated soccer field? It would certainly be nice if every field in the state was perfect in dimension and grass, but that's not realistic. If you earned your way to the playoffs, at any level, you played on varying fields. You can do the same through the playoffs, especially for the High Schools. This simply tries to take away the home field advantage for a team that earned it. Face it, not all schools have the funds, or even the land to make another field. As far as travel teams and the state tournament, there is much better control on where those games are played, and a mandated size for the field could be implemented.

Good point Bean. The high school my daughter plays for does not even have their own field. They have to use a field owned by the city.
