  1. Where is the media? It's no secret Alsup is the new coach. Would think they would at least announce it. I think it was admirable they didn't drag the previous coach through the mud when there was no arrest. However, you would think the school would at least announce the hiring.

  2. The Lincoln Co girls job was taken by the boys head coach at Lincoln Co, Chad Tipps. They now have a boys head basketball coaching job open.

You helped me out earlier with Tipps, so what happened with Herman? LC just decide he had been given long enough?

  3. It's bad all over. I was at a game 2 weeks ago and the police actually had to called in to calm some parents down.

Some Sunday afternoons you would think 10 yr olds were playing for a State Championship and not a $2 medal that no one outside of mamas Facebook followers will ever hear about.

You see it all at these tournaments. Teams that lose on Saturday show up with a kid with a full beard on Sunday just so they can win. Parents yelling at other teams players, freaking out on officials, getting thrown out, etc

Travel ball is meant to make kids better and of course to learn to compete. I think most kids get that. Some parents do not. Once or twice I've had to remind myself to calm down. I occasionally get lost in competition myself so I don't claim to be perfect. I get more rational by the year however.

As far as officials go, I wouldn't ref a travel tournament for anything. It is extremely difficult to officiate younger kids because of the constant fouling, jump balls, and travels. My only issue there is the lack of consistency. Some games kids are literally bleeding afterwards and in others the ref calls everything. Once you have made the rounds a few times, you know how to play based on the officials in that particular gym. No way to really fix that and the same applies most nights during HS season.

  4. Don't think Pats stated they were giving out championships tonight, but that tonight's games might be better than what we see next week. That is not an unreasonable statement. It is quite possible the games tonight will be much better than the mismatches we have seen at the ST in AAA. But, that's why they play the games. Most any team is capable of "laying an egg". I'm tired of hearing about good old 7AAA, but it's hard to argue their dominance over the past 5-6 years.

  5. I would love to see some sort of evaluation put in place for officials from the administrator level. I don't see all coaches being able to give an honest assessment of officials, but the school administrator SHOULD be able to look at the ref's performance somewhat objectively. I also agree that too many officials are now becoming or trying to become "part of the show". Strangely, I don't mind this if they are a good official. A couple of refs from the 80's were good officials who just happened to be somewhat comical and entertaining. I never minded them because they generally did a good job officiating the game.

I also don't believe it is that hard to evaluate officials. In many cases, both the home and away teams know who the bad refs are. I hear it the stands from both sides - "oh here comes so and so, he's terrible"... However, some of the blame comes from we the fans. Many capable officials just won't do it anymore because of the grief they receive night after night. Funny part is, the abuse officials think they receive today is nothing like it was 15 years ago. That's part of the reason the officiating has declined. There are kids officiating today that I would have thought were players had they not been in striped shirts.

  6. Very impressive young lady. Only saw her play 3 times, but she's good shooter with 2 more years to develop. Didn't know she was a MC transplant though. She could be dominant in A ball. Definitely a candidate for MVP, but the Clark girl at LC will get the nod IMO. Had no idea Mann was a sophomore. It will be interesting watching her grow over two more seasons. Finally, I don't think Herman does a bad job, but might agree MC coach is a little better.

  7. I don't know much about Baird, but I know he had a few quality wins while at WC. But with a school that size they should be getting more than a few quality wins here and there.. Panter may end up doing fine because she's going to be there as long as she wants to be. That's just the way Warren County works.

I don't have a dog in the race. I watched Panter coach in middle school and crossed paths with her in travel ball. I thought she was a rising coach who would do well at the HS level. My only concern was experience, but I suppose the only way to get experience is to jump in and do it.

I also watched Baird work very, very hard in the spring trying to develop a feeder program and he was committed to making his program better. I was a little surprised he was let go as his teams seemed to get a little better every season and he definitely put in the work. What's done is done and I hope Coach Panter turns it around. The freshman group has some potential IMO.

  8. That's a joke. Pulling for the Warriorettes, but we are about to get a couple of losses in the next two weeks im afraid. Hope im wrong !

WC has the record to back up the ranking currently even if the strength of the schedule is lacking. I'm curious if you think having a coach who has put teams in the state tournament on multiple occasions has any influence on the polls? One would think if the voters are paying attention and have analyzed the schedule, they must be counting on your coach to have the team playing really well in late February. Just curious if you think the coaches past performances might be getting WC the benefit of the doubt?

Also, I'm not disrespecting him by calling him coach, just too lazy to look up the proper spelling. If I tried to spell it I would leave out a "d" or "g" or get them backwards.

  9. Off topic, but I envy you fans. I'm a Coffee County guy and know your district well from our time in it. I wish there was this kind of discussion for our new/old district. I enjoy reading what everybody thinks day in and day out. Just wanted to tell you guys (and girls) that you are lucky to have other people who want to discuss girls basketball and your district.

CC is already having and probably will continue to have a rough, rough year, but the games are still being played and I will be there.

    Enjoy your year!

  10. Maryville isn't the type team that is going to run up a score to make their self's look good. I'm betting the first team just see's a few series in this game I believe 90% of our points are in the first half and the younger kids play most of the second half. In this game I look for that even earlier.

It will be ugly and yes, it is on the TSSAA. Ridiculous that everyone in the region makes the playoffs. This isn't a swipe at Warren County because they are simply outmanned at every position and I feel for them. Unless Maryville takes a knee for 3 quarters, they are going to run the score up whether they want to or not.

  11. King played his guts out. He's a nice player. I thought the game was going to be competitive initially. After the pick 6, WC seemed to give up. The CC TD drive right before half with less than a minute left in the half really showed it. CC probably had 45-50 yards worth of penalties in the last 40 seconds and still scored a TD.

This is one year where CC just has more speed and talent than WC. CC should have won and did. But, I thought it would be closer.

  12. After googling this and seeing how many national news outlets picked up this story, this is going to blow up in the RC Administrations face if they don't do something. I will be shocked if both aren't fired. Ask Ray Rice or Adrian Peterson or Joe Paterno (not comparing the acts- this was in no way criminal), but once these things get going, it is difficult to make it go away. I don't see a 2 game suspension cutting it.

  13. Knowing now, that we may not be in All Sports , in the new alignment ,It does, put a damper on my enthusiasm, however,I still love the football realignment. Time to hit the weight room ! Rhea County and Cookeville can compete, why can't we ? And by the way, the Boro has been relative in football for the last 35 years !

Again, I appreciate the enthusiasm and I hope all goes well. I wasn't trying to offend.

And, yes, Murfreesboro has been relevant a long time, but there are twice as many of them now...

  14. I ,for one , am thrilled to be back playing teams from the Boro again ! Some may say , we cannot compete, but how well do we compete in our district now ? If we have the number of students to play 6aaa , then by all means, that is where we should be. It will be SO NICE to see the talent brought in from the Boro into McMinnville once again, in Every Sport . It's. up to us, to belly up and compete

As a Coffee County fan who has no kids in HS ball, I hope your optimism about rising to the level of competition is valid. The flip side is the Boro schools have evolved a little since Warren was in that district. Warren (and Coffee) are going to be playing elite division I athletes on a weekly basis. Based on the results from playing in the worst district in the state the last few years, you might want to worry about your kids getting hurt. Playing elite teams might make you better, but the results are gonna be the same and much more painful. It hurts me to say that as CC is in the same boat, but this is gonna be like asking Chattanooga to play the SEC West week in and week out.
