  1. Lipscomb, Goodpasture, Boyd-Buchanan, Harding Academy (Memphis), Friendship, Jackson Christian: all programs who have enjoyed recent success and all staffed with members of the Church of Christ. I dare say there might be a good candidate on one of those staffs. Also, I happen to know several other coaches around the state at non-private schools that happen to be members of the Church of Christ. It doesn't limit the search as badly as people seem to think.

Just a note - Friendship has been non-denom for several years. Although, they've had very little turnover in their coaching ranks so I'd say most of the coaches are COC. Get the MTCS basketball coach to make a few calls. He's a Friendship alum.

  2. They were recruited plan and simple. Its not everyday a 6'7'' freshman basketball player up and moves. There is no other way to explain it. If they wanted in so badly, wouldn't he had applied as an 8th grader. Deny it all you want, but everyone knows what went on.

If I was a 6'7" frosh b-ball player, MBA wouldn't have made my top 5 places to transfer to for basketball only. Now considering getting a quality education rivaled by few in the state (perhaps the country) AND the opportunity to play basketball ... priceless. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Good move boys! And they did the move legally. Imagine if they were girls and they had transferred to Shelbyville. Would there be much of a fuss? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

  3. A-AA Girls Soccer State Tournament

8 teams, 6 private, 2 public and both public schools are over the limit for A-AA, now moved to AAA

There is no question that something is wrong with the system.

Why don't the private schools go to D2?

I'm not trying to be flip ... but the answer is because they don't have to. The accept the multiplier and the rule that they can not have athletes on scholarship.

  4. NO 1 kid every year or 2 (like most publics get) is called transferring , 5 kids or more every year is called recruiting!

Actually, I counted 6 "transfers" for my local public school team. And they made no bones about why they "transferred" either. And I'm dang glad to have them! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  5. Baldcoach I`d have to disagree with you to some extent but maybe you can clarify for me. If a girl in your school became pregnant would she be allowed to attend?

Not to answer for BC and Boyd, but I do know of 1 girl who became pregnant as a junior at a private I live near and she was allowed to continue attendance and graduate. She did have to go before the board since the act by which she got pregnant broke the student conduct code. I believe her appeal was "if God can forgive me, why can't you." No truer statement there - and she was allowed to stay.

  6. Anointed no more! Great job of smacking them in the mouth and pulling out the win!

I love it when self-anointed folks have to eat a little crow. Then they cry about it and say the refs were horrible or paid off. I guess good sportsmanship isn't taught down in them thar parts. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  7. So......you concede that all the rich boys at FCS are rich.

    I'm not from or affiliated with FCS. I'm just anti-redneck. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

    And yes, they are all rich. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

  8. i bet all that PBandJ makes you resemble ned beaty... /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> , i bet you got a purty mouth...somebody que the banjo's... /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

You do realize the implications of what you are wanting to do here, right? Logical reasoning is taught in Trousdale, right? I always thought folks from Trousdale were a little light in their loafers, but I believe all the rich boys of FCS are going to have to watch their tailpipes all night long! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  9. ...MAAAAAAAA-MA MY BUTT IS SO SORE...

What exactly are you planning on doing to them? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

    I'm envisioning "Deliverance". So appropriate for Trousdale! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  10. FC beat TC two years in a row. True! TC was in a down mode both years...struggled to make the

playoffs. Those two years have nothing to do with this year, in which TC has vastly improved.

I really don't see where FC has made that much improvement.

The past two years when you defeated a down TC, you won by a combined 9 points.

    2006: FC 14 TC 7

    2007: FC 9 TC 7

    Not really earth shattering! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    Ahem - earth shattering enough that Satterfield tucked and ran! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  11. What was that principal's name @ H2O that goes to all those UT games with the Mighty Mayor? Was it Martin? That's the guy that hates private schools.......

I know Coach Martin and he only hates privates schools on game day - just like he despises all his opponents on game day. He worked at Sports World in Lebanon on the side for years. Virtually every child and grandchild of the owners of Sports World/Lebanon Chemical attended FCS. He was living in the hornets nest if he hated them all. I can't say it enough, Coach Martin is very good people. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  12. This post is full of crap and you know it, Paul.

    Ha! That is rich! You think I'm the coach! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Read back over all of my past posts here on this board. Not just the ones you selectively read on the LCA threads. I'm far from being a coach by any means. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  13. Who are you a fan of? I have heard through the grapevine that you are VERY closely associated with MJCA. Any truth to that? If so, wouldn't you love for your team to be where LCA is?

Well, if you count attending church at MJ 1st Baptist as being "VERY closely associated with MJCA" - well then I'm guilty as charged. I have no kids that attend MJCA or will I ever. I do pull for their teams as I know many of the teachers and students from church though. Poor folks, the church/school admins can't seem to get it together. If they just built a real upper school campus and expanded, they would be in a great position to grow tremendously.

However, I am a rabid fan of the MJ Bears. We are young this year, taken a few lumps - but are still undefeated in region play. And I absolutely would NOT love for my team to be where LCA is. In fact, I would hate it very much. Especially, if folks were getting on boards and popping off about a stellar season when their team is far, far from being anything close to stellar.

I will say that I do believe that the LCA coaches are doing it right though. You have to build interest in the program and womping a bunch of lesser teams will definitely bring in some interest. Literally, you two guys are my only real world connections to LCA. My only other recollections are driving to the soccer fields in Smyrna by passing the school building and watching on the news about the school founders kid (or grandkid) putting a whoopin' on some poor kid and not getting punished at all for it.

  14. I'd like to see this 7-0 team get some more love!

I'm very glad that you are rabid about your team .... BBBBUUUUTTTT .... you aren't yet playing a TSSAA schedule and the schedule you are playing is unbelievably week. I'm sure you guys will be welcomed with open arms come next football season when you join the big boys. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  15. I guess they get what they wanted. The TSSAA has their enrollment at 454 which should be enough for Class A even if a few private schools go Division II. That was about the number the Chattanooga Free Press listed for them the other day, but it includes no senior class and what was called a very small junior class. They'll get to play A for two years regardless of how much their four-class enrollment is next year and the year after, a 20 percent+ change would move them up but not for two years. They should go on their projected enrollment in 2009.

For the purposes of classification, the TSSAA will take the average class size for the classes they do have and then project the total for a full high school. They have done that with a few of the other schools in the past - especially if the classes will be filled within the next period.

EDIT: I just saw the thread with the enrollment numbers and the TSSAA's extra considerations - of which, Signal Mtn. isn't listed (extra considerations that is). It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

  16. If a child comes to 1st grade and can't count to 10, say their ABC's, read or speak English in a reasonable manner all the research shows that unless that child is WAY above average in intelligence they are never going to catch up...

    Excellent post!

  17. Is it the schools/teachers or the parents/students? I saw an article about a month ago in the Chattanooga paper about a Howard graduate starting a career as a pharmacist, it was a regular feature about local job promotions, business news, etc. Howard has been among the lowest-performing high schools in the state but it didn't hold him back.

Now imagine that Howard was a well performing school that pushed all kids to excel. They might be running a story saying that class had 20 pharmacists now. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Why are we happy to say "look, they have one kid who was strong enough to forge ahead in a bad situation - so it can't be that bad" ?

  18. Like I said before...privates are all college prep kids. Publics are not...so the bottom line is skewed...somewhat.

You were talking about graduates of a certain private school excelling. When I was in high school here...I had 2 classes which had 10 students in each class. The classes were advanced math and physics. Out of those 10...all graduated from college. One is the rocket scientist...one graduated at the top of Vanderbilt's med school (heart surgeon). One got his masters from UT. One is a corporate lawyer that graduated with top honors from University of Virginia. One is doing medical research (a former brain surgeon). He graduated with top honors from UK med school. That's just in my class.

By the way...when one of your kids graduate college...give me a call if they are in any of these fields. If they excel enough...maybe I can put in a good word to help get them a top level job. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Of course...they may have to check their grammar school records.

Ah, thanks for the offer. You can never have enough connections. /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> (Although, you know me - you just don't know it.)
