  1. Same old orcat = K2ruth.  Makes outlandish claims not substantiated by facts just to stir the pot.  Nothing really wrong with it since this message board is dead, just surprised anyone still plays along although TT is a relative newbie.

Was that Hames beat down on the Maryville thread so bad that K2ruth is permanently retired?  Somehow I doubt it.  I always thought orcat served as the more rational & reasonable ego but roles appear to be blurred now.

City of Knoxville has 1 AA state title in last 4 years.  Not saying it will happen again this year but South has 3 out of 4.

  2. Regional winners (home teams) win 80-90% of these matchups for good reasons.  So, without seeing any of these teams I can easily pick at least 7 out of 8 sectional winners.

Let's go with Jackson South Side as the only road team to win AA sectionals.  Sounds like Knox Catholic has a good shot, too, but can't pick against the defending AA state champs to exit this early.

  3. So, the last time region 2AAA (Knoxville) sent TWO teams to state was NEVER.  Look it up on the TSSAA page if you don't believe it.

South moving down to AA helps region 2 but to predict DB won't get to 15 playing at home is a big stretch.

    TH will have 20 kills.

  4. State???  AC hasn't even made it to substate aka sectionals since moving to AAA 6 years ago.

Farragut is the measuring stick for AAA volleyball in Knoxville.  Half a coach and year-round/club players will beat 3 coaches and part-time/non-club players any day.

  5. Have to disagree. The Bearden coach is far superior. Look at what he has done the past two years. Third in the state. He turned Bearden into a power.

When was Bearden 3rd in the state?  They finished 4th in 2012 (behind Ravenwood, Brentwood, & Sullivan South) and didn't make it to state in 2013.

Shouldn't you be logging in as k2ruth soon to argue with yourself?

  6. orcat = k2ruth

    proof:

    for years orcat was reasonable

orcat was secretly jealous of AC success

orcat needed another personality to admit fondness for AC

k2ruth was born to expound on greatness of AC

AC has flopped in AAA so k2ruth seeks a new winner to follow

orcat comes back as unreasonable OR poster

k2ruth emerges as voice of Knox VB reason

PS - district ties are broken however the district agrees to do so - no TSSAA involvement

  7. Surely AC hasn't dropped so far that they measure success by winning districts.  I was referring to zero state tourney or even sectional appearances since moving to AAA.

Good coaches make something from nothing or at least don't mess up what you inherit from someone else.  With few or no club players, AC coaches must be at least good.  Great teams require both good players and coaches and playing club helps develop good players.

  8. Does AC's lack of success since moving up to AAA 5 years ago have anything to do with a lack of club players?  I'm afraid in today's kid-centric society we've gotten to the point that you have to specialize in one sport and play it year round to stand out.  And, even worse, kids are being forced to chose which sport at earlier and earlier ages.

Yes, there are still the occasional multi-sport athletes that manage to stand out without paying to play away from school, but they are getting rarer, especially in sports like volleyball and soccer that cost a lot to play in high-level clubs.

  9. Is DB still missing their setter AND middle?  Hard to win with just a libero.

With some decent seniors, Central really has a good shot of winning the district.  Think it is their coaches final year so maybe they'll toughen up.  Or, just as likely, pee their spandex when it really matters.

Even as poor as district 2AAA usually is, the Big 7 will have to do some serious growing up to send anyone past regionals.  Anyone making it to state is highly unlikely.

  10. PH, the problem has to do with great team, vs great player. Ravenwood has a GREAT TEAM. Top to bottom, They have no weaknesses. Karns had that the last 2 years. Sometimes people mistake great teams for great players.

Next year Knoxville will have 5 elite players that are Division 1 ready, 4 seniors and 1 junior. 1 at Karns, 1 at CAK 1 at HV and 2 at Anderson County. CAK will do well in small school with a great player. Karns probably won't make it out of district because they have to play AC and HV. Does that diminsh the Karns player?

Karns and AC offer better instruction than CAK does that diminsh the CAK player?

I don't think so. All 5 of those girls will deserve all-state.

K2 17's have FOUR all-state players, Kingsport 17's have ZERO all-state players. In K2's Elite Invitational last weekend, K2 17's went 1-4 finishing 11 out of 12 teams with only win over #12 team while KVC went 4-2 finishing 3 out of 12 with both loses coming to tourney champ NKYVC. Four different schools represented on KVC squad and no more than 3 of them had ever played club on the same team.

Don't understand how a team with 4 GREAT PLAYERS could perform so poorly relative to a team with NO great players. Perhaps K2's setter was in the hospital.
