  1. I know this situation should be put to rest, but I can??™t help but to speak my piece??¦

As an alum of GHS, I am incredibly shocked at the way the game of volleyball has changed. I have never heard of such emphasis being place on the awards instead of the team as a whole or of such disrespect to the people in the community.

I??™m still a little confused about who the ???big-haired lady??? is??¦.the former coach or the mom of the girl that played last year.

As for the mom of the girl that played last year, I really don??™t have much to say about her??¦but I will gladly defend the former coach??¦

Anyone that would bad-mouth her should be ashamed! She has been nothing but great for the girls on the volleyball team, even after her daughter has graduated she continues to support these wonderful girls. She has cooked for them numerous times over the years, bought each and every one of them gifts??¦..and keep in mind did NOT HAVE TO do these things. She has been an excellent cheerleader and role model for these girls??¦I definitely don??™t see that as being shallow! And what in the world is there for her to be jealous about??? sorry but anyone that will do a cartwheel and the splits numerous times after winning games at her age I have to give props to??¦.I would LOVE to see you do that 5 sport! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

And as for those of you that are complaining about living in small towns??¦please MOVE if you hate it so much??¦..but please let your daughters stay I will gladly adopt each of them.

On a lighter note??¦.Good luck next week girls??¦.Each and every one of you is amazing!!! Bring home another championship!!

Everything said about the former coach is straight and true. She was not bad mouthed by me most of all. A questioned was asked, it was answered, and then reacted to. It was agreed to diasagree. Where all this comes from about bad mouthing, it wasn't done by me. I talked straight to the source not behind the back. There is nothing to defend. No one said anything contrary about such a great lady's legacy with this community. How this has gotten so out of hand by disagreeing is beyond me. This is not the stepford wives. We can have differences of opinion and still think highly of who we disagree with. No need to be insulting.

  2. With a daughter that graduated, yes, last year, she was an athlete who had a great attitude. Of the 4 years she played VB, there was only one occasion that I went to a coach. I never asked for more play time but simply stated that the coach could do anything she wanted but break her spirit. I never once had the coach's ear and never complained about who made the tournament teams and who didn't. Guess what? She ain't there no more! I can finally say the truth of what I see. Don't mean to offend and would not hurt a player's heart for anything. The only people I could possibly offend are you people all up in it. I love these girls and I love the parents, now lets put this to rest. I just spoke what everybody else has felt for a long time. GO LADY-CATS!! I for one will be cheering you on. Lets move on, I already have. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> See ya tonight.

  3. Congradulations Greenbrier girls! You make our community proud! There isn't anything standing in your way for a back2back state title. Your fan base is huge and supports you all the way! I agree with catsfan20 about the picks. Nina Dever should have taken home an award but who am I to say. She loves the game, loves her team mates, and always walks with her head high, no matter the circumstances. I know the lady that challenged the picks. She doesn't have a dog in the fight, but finds it nearly impossible not to speak up when an injustice is committed. Doesn't make her right; all through out life we are faced with this. I think she is in desperate need of a haircut. Know any good hairdressers Spikeit2?

  4. Kayla and Kaysi,

Love you girls! You have made the games and the team an exciting part of our years at Greenbrier. Your attitudes of selflessness when you could have reigned supreme attests to your generous spirits and competitive edge. I know you will go further and make every one of us in the 'Brier" proud. As to your parents, I'd say to you, JOB WELL DONE! You come from some great stock, truly the best kind of people. Stay true to yourselves, depend on God, and blow the socks right off of the next school you conquer!

P.S. I still remember the Barney Days! This growing up stuff takes too little time to get there. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  5. Item 1. I believe if you read the rules tuition is not to be paid for an athlete except parents and grandparents, no third parties. I will stand corrected if I am wrong.

Item 2: I have used my hometown as an example, no other part of the state. I thought that was pretty obvious.

Item 3: I have negotiated deals for 2 of my kids with them so I know a little about this. Deals would be a correct adjective among others.

Item 4: My son went to Norte Dame High School, played 3 sports, and enjoyed it. this is the way all education should be. the school is a MISSON for the church and staff. Every one at Notre Dame was great. They were above all honest, followed rules and conducted themselves as adults. I am very proud of them. The male role models were outstanding and will be with my son forever. The football team won 9 games in 4 years. I would let my son play for Coach White, Coach Bray, Coach Wiggins and coach Mullins anytime anywhere. I paid this tuition in full. If it matters we bleed Southern Baptist.

Let me try to get back to the topic. A great coach is a GREAT COACH no matter where they coach at, no matter what the conditions, or circumstances. You take all the so called great coaches in this state, take away the money, take away the suburbs, take away the private school advantages, take away the clubs and lets see who can coach.

How many so called great coaches are coaching without being surrounded by these perks now? The state Championships are won by the coaches with these perks. How many state championships have been won in the last 15-20 years. without these advantages. I know of 2. How many rural high schools have won state champioships in the last 15 years. They do not have these perks but they seem to be trying to catch up in some areas.

If i am ever wrong call me out, my phone number is in the book here in Chattanooga. I do not hide behind nicknames.

Mr. Brock, just to add a little something -something to the mix. I can honestly say that Greenbrier is a small rural school without the perks. In order for our team to compete in tournaments, our girls had fundraisers. We had carwashes, golf tournaments, womanless beauty pageants, all in order to play were there wasn't sufficient money to go around. The booster club mainly supports football. When we made it to state, I think they may have helped to secure buses for students to get to travel and cheer us on. I think that working hard together, even gave our team more chemistry. We as parents worked right along side of them. Pretty much our coach got great girls and no money, lol. What made them a great team is they played coming up together. I'm glad there was no one trying to encourage an athlete from another school to come to ours. In the end, that team that stayed together, played together, ultimately won together. My daughter played middle, she has now graduated. Those were some of the best memories of our lives

  6. It's volleyball time in Tennessee.

My daughter played in the game last year and since my wife is a real volleyball coach I can supply what little knowledge that I have on the subject.

To play in this game your H.S. Coach and/or school must be a member of the coaches association. Among the coaches/schools not members in Choo-Choo city are GPS, Baylor, Notre Dame. Last year they strickley enforced the rule.

You must be nominated and as usual its easy to pick most of the rosters but at the last spots its tough and some really great kids are not nominated.

The kids actually have to sign a contract that you are going to particpate and be at all of the practices, any events and the games. This can be a hardship because if I remember from last year it is a 2-3 day event for the girls. There were 3 practices plus a dinner. The great gift to the girls was the coaches association paid for rooms and meals so it did not cost the girls anything but their time. What is sad is that some kids break their pledge and contract and don't show up which happened to the A-AA West team last year. But as has been said there are a lot of summer plans and some cannot make it. It was a chance for my daughter to visit and make new friends and pal around with our arch enemies from years past.

As luck would have it the east A-AA team practiced hard and promply lost to a pick up west team beacause a lot of their players did not show up. They proved that you cannot develope teamwork in 2 days.

As for volleyball signees this was a very weak class and there is a shortage of them. I would say the number is down 65% this year.

The great players reported to school anywhere from early Jan (they graduated early to go though spring pratice with their new college team) up to offical start date of August 1st. Laura reported June 5th to MTSU and had to get excused to play in the all star game. It was really great when her new teammates from MTSU came to the game to watch her play. She enjoy that as much as anything.

A great time was had by all and I hope my youngest gets to play next summer. The expense for the parents living in the corners of the state to do this are very high and time consuming.

I hope to see everyone this year because it will be my last so yell at the guy in the bright blue MTSU hat.

  7. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> Ok! I'm in the stands...I have my popcorn or hotdog...the game begins. There probably aren't very many people who are as competitive as I am, but I have a sneaking suspicion most parents, that were athletes themselves, suffer from the same ailment that I do. We get it, know how to do it, got an opinion of it, can fix it, will win it and so on. As a senior mom, this is it for me so I have earned the right to heckle the ref, that's right, you heard me. I love to add my two cents(more like a dollar). I yell, clap, enjoy. I wouldn't want the ref's job. I like sitting in the stands letting him know how badly he is screwing up. It's the American way! (in Greenbrier)lol. My daughter's volleyball team won the state chamionship, basketball needs a little work, so until they win in b-ball like v-ball, my enjoyment comes in crying out from the stands in nicer terms, you stink! I already hear friday nights game calling to me, caallliinnnggg to me. So take up your stand in the seats, play ball, and stripes, look out! I am primed and ready to make you my target!!!!! /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  8. Yep, we missed some crucial free throws. From the moment the first whistle blew, our kids hands were tied. They couldn't make an aggressive play or even the look of about to do something aggressive without the whistle being blown. At first, it was every time we were making contact with the ball at the same time Jo Burns did, Heaven forbid! Every time we just tried to play the game as they were, we were called for the foul. Our starters were all in foul trouble in the first 3 minutes. The foul ratio at that time was 13 to 3. They stop at 10 on the scoreboard, I kept counting past it. I believe in getting in there and mixing it up, but only if both teams are given equal leeway. This was not the case last night. At times it was so flagrant, Jo Burns should have been embarrassed. Never fear, Being 10 points behind means nothing when the officials have their way of evening up the score, just long enough to help the team get caught up. Congradulations Jo Burns, nice win, NOT!!!!!!!

  9. It is true all three have players on the JBS team its the only way they could see them play this year. I talked with our coach this morning and I beleive the fouls were 28 GHS 20 JBS. As you stated you blew a 10 point haltime lead and missed Ft after Ft down the stretch.

Stop whining!!!!! Give the JBS girls credit they were outsized at ever position on the floor.

OK, I don't like whining. We like to be known as pretty good sports in competition. I want to make sure I have heard correctly. The officials had daughters playing on the court that they were officiating? All three?

  10. Congratulations to the Tennessean All- Midstate Volleyball team!!!

    Kayla Arnold

    Kaycee Green

    Becca Brewster

    Marie Mullins

    Nicole Smith

    Alison Woods

    Ellen Mullins

Amazing that the first team was an IMPACT VB Club sweep!!!! Also 9 of 16 on the 2nd and 3rd teams play or have played for Impact.

Conmgratulations to all 21 players on making this prestigous team.

These are absolutely great players! The selection for first team was right on, with the exception of Kaysi Arnold not being named. Oh, that's right, Third team? WHAT? That's like saying Hank Aaron is a bench player. HELLO! /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

  11. Very classy comments. Congratulations on a great season.

    Kelsey,

You played great in every match we played against your team. We truly recognize the strength of the Anderson county players. Your parents and fans, I know, are truly proud of you. We hope to be able to have as successful a program and long standing rep as you girls do. My daughter is Katie,#2, the tallest player on the team. It is her senior year and it has been a wonderful ride! Good luck to you and all your teamates. Thank you for your sincere congradulations and same goes to you!

  12. What a way to end a wonderful season! Ladycats, we love each and every one of you. We have so many wonderful memories to hold in our hearts and take with us. We have such a wonderful circle of parents too! Spikeit2 and 5-Sport dad and wifey, luv ya. Our girls are true champions in every sense of the word. They never gave up their dream, and they will still be dreaming next year too, with the goods to back it up. Even at times thru some ups and downs, you girls were solid, all the way. I will miss the cheering and the hugs and the hi-fives! Buford and wifey, class- act, your kind and gracious hearts have been an example to all of us. Mrs. Susan, thank you for the many times you seen to mine when I had to work and couldn't come. I never knew dynamite could come in such a petite package. Truly enjoyed your cheerleading, Green what? GREENBRIER! Shannon and Hubbey, love you and the twins. I am so very proud of how they represented us at every level. Katie, I love you. You have a great spirit and brought it at the tournament. We are the better for it having you in our lives. Good luck next year, have fun, dream BIG. and make it back for #2!

  13. Not to make anybody mad, but I don't see THREE D1s. I see 2...and for some reason they favor each other. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

On this team, I do see a larger number of lower echelon college players, if they chose to go that route. I also see three or four starters on the basketball team, and the starting 2nd base, SS and 3rd base on the softball team that went to State last year. We're loooa-ded with athletes! And some are very sholarly, too.

    hmmmm

  14. uh oh, momma aint happy /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

seriously, this is the part of the season i personally hate (can i say hate?)... its sad to see someone inferring, without having the guts to come out and say it, that the MVP (actually, its Player of the Year) selected for District 4 was somehow the wrong one.

The girl chosen at KC is a true leader, the court captain, and there is a reason for that! She has "given it up" all year on the court, played her heart out, played with multiple injuries ALL year, and led her teammates through another fine season for KC by her actions and vocally.

To even suggest through inference that the wrong player was selected is shameful and conceited. and it really shows how little one knows about team sports. Maybe you should take up tennis, its an individual sport and your child can take home some hardware and you will feel better.

i will paraphrase what i said last year (can i paraphrase myself?)... if a parent or player of ANY team sport expects accolades by receiving a piece of wood with some metal on it then you dont have a clue about the team concept and what it means to support others.

sad and unbelievable... sry i ranted, i'm gonna go throw up now

As a parent from Greenbrier, our selections have been right on the money. Every player on our team played great, including my daughter. She did not get an award. Had there been a couple of more pieces of metal to go around, she would have been recognized. The girls that did get them, DESERVED them. They played up and above, so our whole team was better for it. I am proud of each one of them. We are just excited to still be in the running for a state trip. There is no time for negative thoughts at this level of the game, just hold your head up high and play strong. You win as a team and lost that way too. Go Ladycats!

  15. I love Greebrier and all their fans and parents.....the only problem that I have with Greenbrier is the "flashing lights into the receiving teams eyes" I have heard that this has been a problem. Sportsmanship is key in High School Athletics. If the Flashing bulbs rumor is true I just hope that the officials take care of it.

Just to address the light bulb flashes in the face. We have parents, who have senior daughters on the team. It is their last year in high school. The only thing we are guilty of is trying to get pics of these precious times. We didn't realize at any time that it was having an effect on the other team. As soon as it was pointed out to us, the picture taking was stopped. This occured at Brentwood. I know we aren't the only team to use a camera, but it evidently caused temporary blindness /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Sorry folks, sometimes ya learn as ya go, can you say CHHEEEZZEE! Lame

  16. 5sportdad – If reading a post complimenting a great team on winning and wishing them a safe trip home then misspelling their name gets your underwear in a wad, then so be it. I was in the gym from 7:30 until late after the final match and tired, so if that is the only thing you can find to complain about we must have run a pretty good tournament. It was tough with a team dropping out and one not showing up at all I think the coaching staff did an outstanding job.

I did hear someone from Greenbrier say, AC coaches stacked the pools to make it easy for them to make the finals. Well for that person’s information (if they are on here) the final four were all from the same pool A. Stacked yes, but to make it easy NO.

I spoke to Greenbrier’s senior #16’s dad outside after the match (and by the way I want to thank him for the compliment of my daughter #5) telling them good luck the rest of the way and be safe going home, I hope I didn’t mess that up.

It is fun being the team everyone wants to beat, as AC has been for years and apparently still is. Games like these are just a means to an end; obviously they are fun to win. But just remember no one goes undefeated; good teams like AC learn from the losses and move on.

All yesterday was is two great volleyball teams splitting two great matches. AC 2-0 game one and Greenbrier 2-0 game two.

We had a great day at Anderson county Hopi. You were great hosts. All the teams here tried to step their game up. We got off to a slow start by losing our first match to you, but got our wake up call quick afterwards! It was a great feeling to come home with the title. I have a Sr. daughter on the team, so this was her last time to get to come. Thanks for playing us hard and being good sports. You have a great team and good reputation. Hope to see you in the finals.

  17. As I had stated in an earlier post, I do know we are all human. We enjoy being a part of good solid play with teams out of our division. I certainly for one do not want to appear as a sore loser. This was one game, out of one day, of an entire season. I do not want our team or our parents to come across as whiners. I think Greenbrier has been appreciated in all the venues it plays. We have good parental support and enjoy the other parents form regular season and travel ball. This is the final thing I have to say on the subject of the Father Ryan experience. I take back nothing from my original posts, understanding that it is appropriate to disagree at times, period, end of sentence as earlier expressed by another. I spoke generally and not personally. Good luck everyone /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  18. Calls are part of every sport and every game, and when they go against you, you must learn to play through them. Incompetence, on the other hand, shouldn't be allowed to be part of the game. The two guys that helped call our game with FR on Friday were in-com-pe-tent! Both of them jumped around like little girls when the ball came close to them. Watch game film and you'll see, since you obviously couldn't see it during the game, that the worst/blatant call was where your setter (#20 I believe?) managed to hit the ball so that it curved around the antenna from out-of-bounds on our side and fell fair. When the referee looked at both line judges, they indicated that it looked good to them. Of course it did! But, truthfully, it was either a miracle... /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> ...or geometrically impossible. Whatever. Play through it.

And I've got written proof that the tourney was changed, sir. My first clue is that our particular play times were changed from the first notice (we rec'd from your coach, I guess) until brochure-printing time. Initially, game times were 5 and 7 (also see play4keeps' schedule above, unless she made it all up /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> ). We actually played at 4 and 6. Also, the pools went from being called 'A,' 'B' and 'C' on Friday, to Pools 1, 2 and 3 on Saturday. That's not what the brochure says, though. The tourney set-up/schedule was changed. Period. End of sentence. Back atcha!

As far as your brochure, who knows. You probably got a 'special' one... /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> . With your attitude, you probably think you deserved it.

Good luck to your girls. They played hard and are very good. Especially #4. I saw her play a couple of years ago and she's improved...a lot. But, I don't think they'd want to play us again...with some good (i.e., competent) line judges. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

OOOUuccchhhh! ya need some aloe for that burn,bb?

  19. calls are part of the game sorry... the tourney set up never changed. period end of sentence. It was in the brochure I received on Friday when I got there. Good luck the rest of the year. You really do have a great team.

Thank you bb, for keeping me straight /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> there were changes made prior to the tourny, because your coach said she emailed the changes to our coach. That was one email our coach never received. We only found out about the changes on Saturday, so maybe that was our fault, not. I didn't mean to strike a nerve, we think your girls are a talented group of ball players, as are ours. Funny though, as we were leaving, we noticed the St. Benedict coach was eating your coach's lunch. Hmmm, maybe it's an epidemic. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  20. I could not agree with you more! I am very surprised to hear that Father Ryan beat them. Greenbrier could lose to an A/AA school, but I would be very surprised.

Katie Clinard missed being a part of a great tournament, just hoping she gets to finish her senior year out strong after a pretty significant ankle injury. Greenbrier has great players in their younger players. Sophomore Nina Dever came up strong in the game against Father Ryan Friday night as our other middle. She played outstanding with great defense and good kills. We have always tried to be good sports and ladies on the court. When we suffer a loss, we can generally look to ourselves for our own defeat, never blaming anything but our own play or another teams better play. We had an unusual night in calls on the line from parents who either didn't see a call or just made bad ones. We are only human, but it must be pretty blatant when the official walks to the score table and says she is truly troubled by the calls that were made or not made in such a close game of point for point. Followed up by the next day having the tourny play and set up changed overnight. What gives here. We like the fans and parents of Father Ryan, but had a real bad feeling about some of it.

  21. After a trip last year to state, we have high hopes for Greenbrier. After the tourney in Brentwood, we seen a great group of teams(Independence, Brentwood, Seigal), all of which showed an early strong start. We are in the process of regrouping players somewhat. We have heavy hitters in Kayla and Kaysi Arnold. We have height in one of our middles, Katie Clinard. We have a setter, Sara Fowler, that moves over the court well, and is making good use of her hitters. This year will not be about the hitting to make it to state. All of the teams have the hits. To me, it will be about the defense. Whomever can stop it at the net, shutting down the offense. Most of the heavy hitting teams have that in common. Who can stop it at the net? We'll have to slow it down at the net so the back row players aren't constantly trying to dig out these hard hits coming at them. Who wants it the most? So many teams match up the same, but who has the most heart? It may come down to that in the end

We will be at the Ravenwood tourneyat the end of August, at Anderson Co, at Hunstsville, at Father Ryan, I think, and we have picked up some play dates that haven't been officially scheduled yet
