  1. Rained out yesterday and rescheduled for 5 o'clock tomorrow (Monday). I wouldn't count on it though because the field wasn't tarped Friday night which is why it didn't get it Saturday and there has been little to no sunshine since then and it isn't in the forecast for tomorrow. The tournament is being held at Briarcrest who in my opinion was very irresponsible for not tarping Friday night. If you want to host a region tournament, be prepared to call the entire team up there even if you have been eliminated to tarp and work the field.

    Who is the 3 seed (becoming the 5 for East/Middle) from the middle?

    Pope John Paul beat Ryan today

    BA beat BGA today

    1 BA

    2 BGA

    3 JP2

  2. A great way of tearing a program down is to completely disregard the best choice for the kids, the school, the parents, and the community. Coach King! He wanted to be there in spite of everything that made the job undesirable to other experienced coaches. I think my attacks are warranted considering the means by which Coach Hughes has been elevated to his new found position.

    My predictions for the future are, you can reread my previous post, based on knowledge of the new coaches' inadequacy having never worked on a high school staff much less worked 'with' a high school staff. I do want what is best for the team, unfortunately the 'best' things keep walking out the door(or are being pushed out).

    I don't think Coach King wanting to be there was a problem. Not being able to coach his way out of a wet paper sack would be the problem.

  3. And I'm willing to bet that there is not one kid in BA whose parents make Minimum Wage. Therefore they do not come from all walks of life.

    I work in Brentwood and see all the Million dollar houses that surround the BA campus. (not that all of those people go to BA)

    And, it's the 66% of the families that do not need "financial aid" that can shell out unlimitless amounts of money for the football team and athletic facilities because they are the same people that live in all of those million dollar homes, just like some of the people that I work with in Brentwood.

    All I'm saying is; that make a world of difference in a place like BA vs. a place like Town Creek, Alabama (Hazlewood High School) where there are some people who live in homes that still have Dirt Floors. I know because I've been there and seen it with my own eyes.

    You would lose that bet. In fact I know of two single mothers without full time jobs. I know of another student without parents. She lives in a foster home. I should refine my statement to many walks of life. I do not know of any Muslims or Buddhists.

    Most of the inhabitants of the million dollar homes with high school kids go to Brentwood High School or Ravenwood (much larger schools). If the funds were "limitless" we would have an indoor facility, I bet. We do not have lights on our baseball or softball fields. There are no tax dollars what so ever. The latest fund drive went to our new Fine Arts Center that features one of two Black Box Theaters in the state and an actual Forensics arena (that stuff does not make the sports page).

    I would not begin to contrast Brentwood, TN with Town Creek, AL. Probably not the right message board for that sort of thing. The student bodies of Brentwood Academy have built several Habitats for Humanity Homes, however.

    LOL

    I must have combined unlimited with limitless.

    I got your meaning.

  4. I know what you meant by your comment but I have to disagree with one part. (Hear me out on this)

    They don't come from all walks of life because most of the D-II Schools cost thousands of dollars and therefore they all come from rich families. Example: Brentwood Academy cost $15,700 a year. That??™s more than most D-I Colleges cost.

    That is why the D-II Schools can have such great facilities, which attracts the best players.

    Although Prattville is not a private school, they do have an Indoor practice field. That's something you don't see at most high schools.

    I graduated from Brentwood Academy and I have two kids that currently attend. Therefore, I have a lot of specific first hand knowledge. I assure you that all income classes are represented. There is "need based financial aid" available. Here is the fact that many people will not comprehend. Approximately 33% of the student body receives some sort of aid. A firm in Pennsylvania reviews financial records and makes that determination. Most of the recipients of financial aid do not play football.

    None of the $15,700.00 goes to football or athletic facilities. All athletics are supported through donations, sponsors and alumni. I am pretty sure that Prattville did it the same way. I doubt any tax dollars went to the indoor facility.

  5. AL Schools are:

    * 6A - Schools with an enrollment of 682 and above

    * 5A - Schools with an enrollment of 411-682

    * 4A - Schools with an enrollment of 295-411

    * 3A - Schools with an enrollment of 222-295

    * 2A - Schools with an enrollment of 148-222

    * 1A - Schools with an enrollment of 148 and under

    This means that basically every 2A School and up in TN would be a 5A and up in Alabama.

    5A or 4A, you are right. I guess there are a lot of small community schools in Alabama. I wish it was still that way in Tennessee.

  6. All enrollments include boys and girls.

    According to the AHSAA the enrollment for Hazlewood is 105.

    According to the TSSAA the enrollment for Brentwood Academy is 446.

    And. according to the AHSAA the enrollment for Prattville is 1562.

    This mean that BA is 4.25 times the size of HHS and PHS is 3.5 times the size of BA.

    The difference between BA and the other two schools is the fact that they get some of the best players from all over the state of Tennessee to come play for them and from time to time even some kids from out of state.

    Can you imagine if you took the best players from Hazlewood, Prattville, and Hoover and put them on the same team?

    Then you could call them Brentwood Academy-Birmingham Campus.

    I guess at least the 2008 enrollments of Brentwood Academy and Prattville would be relevant....

    I think the odds are pretty good that many families, whom have promising young athletes in their family, move to the districts of Hoover and Prattville to participate in the great program that they have built. I am pretty sure some come from out of state, as well. That is a credit to the program, facilities, coaches and community.

  7. well IMO the problem at BA is the individuality on the team, the players are more worried about themselvs and whos watching them in the stands than they are about putting in work as a team, and trying to achieve the best and true satisfaction in playing highschool football in getting "THE RING"

    You could be right. There is something going on. I don't know how you could know, however. I don't know, so I can't disagree with you. I can only hope that they will right the ship.

    By the way, no matter what. I don't think anyone but Prattville could put a "good beating" on us. I think if we lose to MBA or Ensworth, it will be a hard fought close game as they usually are.

  8. well i have a friend who went to the hillsboro vs. ensworth scrimmage and he said that they looked very big and athletic up front as well as a very big back and speedy QB.while i dont remember the final score ensworth put a beating on hillsboro and BA lost in a scrimmage to hillsboro.

    i know that comparing a teams scrimmage to another teams scrimmage is not an accurate evaluation of who would win in an actual game but i just cant see BA pulling it out against what will be a very good Ensworth team.

    i dont know much about the MBA team but they seem to be a team with great unity and powerhouse standings as of late, what do you know about them?

    Well according to the experts and the college coaches, BA has the better players over Hillsboro, MBA or Ensworth. I believe them on this point. However, you touched on an important element: "heart". I believe that MBA will be loaded with that, as they always are. I just believe that it is not Ensworth's time, yet. I think they will lose to BA and MBA this year. If BA develops some "heart" and some leadership, they will fulfill their potential. I hate to say this, but it is tough for me to predict this will happen. BA may not even play Ensworth this year, anyway.

  9. well IMO i think BA is a team that lacks heart and is rather overrated.

    they are a good team, not a great team.

    i think ensworth and MBA will give them a nice beating this year and put them in check

    I think it is too early to accurately make that declaration. However, I can't blame you for making those assessments.

    I would not bet against you vs. MBA, but I think Ensworth will not pull of the upset.

  10. Hazlewood had way less than 330 students, guessing here, but I doubt it was much over 100. And while they were the "5 time defending champion" they were completely outmanned by a private school much larger than them. And in that scenario, 19-0 was a very close game.

    Wow, if Hazlewood had "way" less than 330 students, a 1A school in Alabama must have resembled the Walnut Grove school house on "Little House On the Prairie".

    They were obviously out manned! They lost 19-0 for goodness sake.

  11. It is possible to have an "educated" opinion without seeing both teams practice. I think you know this, but you're refusing to accept anyones opinion who thinks Prattville will win. I remember BA in their heyday, they were very good, but I also remember Hazlewood High School, a small school in Alabama playing them very close during that time. 19 to 0 in 1993. And Hazlewood was a 2A school, and not a big 2A school. Of course, years later, HHS was whipped by BA.. 2000 to be exact I believe.

    That was a match up between the 5 time defending Alabama 2A State Champion and the Tennessee 2A State Runner-up. I think Hazlewood had one first down the entire game and did not cross the 50. If 19-0 is close, it did not seem that way. In 1993 Brentwood Academy was not a state champion and had 330 students and was a 1A size school, who chose to play up. They were in between the "haydays" of the 80's and the mid-90's.

    A scarier precedent was in 1990 when they were dominated by Lanier (Bessemer). A large school with an army of athletes. BA was only 8-4 that year, however. In 1993 they were beaten by Lee out of Montgomery. They lost this game the same way they lost to Lanier. They were eventually worn down by the sheer number/depth of athletes that were sent against them. BA has some great athletes, but they only have about 220 boys in the school. So, they do not have the depth of a large school like Lanier, Lee or Prattville. This year, they have that problem and a struggling QB position to worry about to go along with that. Tough match-up for BA this year. Unless something can shake out at QB, they may lose up to 3 games this year.

  12. Stop whining about it being tough being BA....PLEASE. USA Today had BA at #12 in the country. I bet if you ask the IHS coaching staff it wasn't a moral victory. They're upset they lost. The only reason they "shut the run down" as you say is that Indy ean it what 6-7 times. I bet the teams BA plays will be beating down Coach Eubanks door to get a copy of the game to prepare for BA. Moral victories are losses. Please stop with the poor, poor BA crap. Your team and coaching staff are classier than that.

    You are right about Coach Eubanks. He did everything right. He even surprised BA with a defense that they were totally unprepared for and it caused major problems. I don't think you will get much argument from anyone about that point. However, you did not read the prior post. The whining started with the "everyone wearing red knows the best team didn't win...". That's one of those things that I don't say or post, even if I think it.

  13. so congrats he went to the naval academy and i am happy for him , but this is just one kid- tell me how did Jabaree decide to go to BA? Did he wake up one day and say hmmm i want to go to BA, did his parent(s) decide for him - Did BA accpet him becasue he could play football VERY WELL, becasue i could almost assure you they didnt take him becasue he could play the flute well - Look at the sports page today tennessean, the o and d line of BA is the size of most div one schools ( well heck it is they are all being recruited by DIV I team)

    Why dont all high schools drop zoning bylawys.

    I don't know the answers to any of those questions. He was president of the student body and played the trumpet in the band. I do my best to stick to what I know are facts. That practice and spell-check rock!!!

  14. Ok, tell me the local Brentwood area middle school scholars BA recruited because I cannot back it up that BA has not recruited local scholar students to attend this fine educational institution.

    It looks like getting beat by the same school year after year will end after this year due to realignment of the public schools and wild card system. BA will have to play all DII teams or out of state teams next year...have a nice road trip.

    Did you ever think of not playing local teams may have a negative effect on the school athletic programs? Lack of local teams not filling up BA football stadium will not only affect the revenue of the football but other non-revenue sports. It appears future cost of additional travel expenses to far off places and drop in revenue of paid football and concession attendance will have devastating effect unless the parents ante up the lost revenue. The net effect on revenue to the public schools will be minor if not increased because privates like BA and MBA don’t bring a very good crowd on away games. This is understandable because the population of BA or MBA is about the size of a public Class 1A or 2A.

    So tell me who is going to suffer on the final outcome.

    I did not assert that BA recruited anyone. Therefore, your question is not applicable.

    I did not consider any of those things that you mentioned. They are all good points. It would be terrible not having any money. Wait, it gets worse!!! You forgot that it would drastically harm our winning percentage, as well.

    I am not sure why you mention all of this. I was talking about MBA. They beat us year after year and I always end up accusing them of being a bunch of meanies. Who did you think I was talking about????

  15. You're correct...I’ve never known BA to recruit scholar students from the local middle schools.

    That works out ok, because I am pretty sure that you would not be able to back it up.

    I am surprised people have not accused BA of recruiting Jabaree Tuani out of the North Nashville area as a "scholar student". He received an appointment to the United State Naval Academy this year. I have noticed that success breeds accusations. That..and getting beat by the same school year after year.
