  1. What would be considered a TN state level time for the 100m and the 400m for the girls high school division..? My daughter is still in 8th grade this year but I was curious about how her times look compared to the rest of the State at the high school level..

    TN Girls Top 10 100m in 2010: 11.46, 11.57, 11.75, 11.86, 11.99, 12.00, 12.01, 12.03, 12.06, 12.08

    TN Girls Top 10 200m in 2010: 23.71, 24.03, 24.25, 24.64, 24.82, 25.00, 25.21, 25.26, 25.27, 25.30

    US Second Team Elite 100m = times at/below 12.25

    US Second Team Elite 200m = times at/below 25.00

  2. I was suggesting that you can go to the 2010 INDOOR rankings (not look at last year) to get a sense of what some of the track and field athletes who will be competing in the Spring already did in the just-ended indoor season. You have to go to Rankings and then select Indoor boys or girls TF. If you are a member of milesplit you can click on each event and do a drill down to see all of the indoor rankings - not just the top performer. May be information overload but good luck.

  3. The oversized guard is pretty good - a beast in fact. Good feet and balance. Not a pound over 360. Stone is good too. Better on offense than defense in my opinion. The team plays sloppy at times but has good overall speed. As far as the 'put nine in the box' theory, is the same strategy Ooltewah utilized against Oakland in the playoffs last year?

  4. I am in the process of putting historical All-American information on my site and need some help from the older fans out there (or anybody in the know for that matter).

The first widely-recognized All-American team came from a group called the Wigwam Wisemen of America (WWA) back in the late 1940s. For a few of these recognized players, there is city information available for the player but not the school name. Any information anybody has that can fill in the blanks would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the list of WWA All-Americans from 1947-1961: Wigwam Wisemen of America

    Thanks.

I would think there would be some players from Chattanooga Central on there -- especially since they were a force to be reckoned with from 1957-1959 and won some sort of mythical national championship (I think) one of those years. They were coached by the legendary Red Etter (who later coached the hannah boys and many other greats at Baylor).

  5. They now have 3 throwers over 50.Wade (10th grade) went 50.1 in shot and 144.6 discus at the Doug Hall relay

I do know that the other 2 throwers must have hit a wall and regressed. They went 44 and 41. That??™s a pretty big drop off but good for Wade. Let??™s hope he stays healthy and can trained hard for state and give it a run. He's got it in him but he's got to remember he's a soph. and he can't risk it if he's not ready. His dad is the throwers coach so I think he'll be smart about it.

As far as the new throwers coach question>>>>>not that I know of.

The BHS shot putter with the best distance so far this year did not throw at Doug Hall. The other 50+ thrower had a bad day. The 41+ footer from DH Relays is the #4 thrower (10th grader) and he threw the discus 128'. Wade (10th grade) threw for the first time since returning from an injury. 50'1.5" shot, 144'4" discus.

  6. Hamilton County facilities are some of the worst in my opinion. Ooltewah's weight room and locker room are horrible. They have one coaches office where all 6 coaches dress/work from. A huge school like Ooltewah should have much better facilities than what they have. I'm sure other schools around the area have the same problem...

Unfortunately, public schools depend heavily on funding from things like 12th Man Clubs and the like. You ought to see some of the track and field facilities. What a disgrace. There is no reason for this other than a bad combination of poor government funding and no or insufficient funding from supporters. I don't see why those HS sports fans with abundant resources don't make significant donations to needy school athletic programs so kids are able to improve their experiences. Schools like Ooltewah with the healthy surrounding demographics should be able to organize an internal fundraising effort to have decent facilities.

  7. My IQ is too high to be a "coach". Thank you though. If they have no excuse I would still give them a shot to prove themselves and if they don't prove themselves then I am sure you know the answer.Could not have said it better myself. Who did you play for in the SEC?

    Vanderbilt

  8. Often the weak minded result to insults and trying to compare those they feel intimidated by with those they don't. If I were Pacman I would have already pulled out a nine and blasted you fool which would be followed by a form of language I am sure you would be able to understand. Another thing when you are going to insult someone's intelligence, you could at least spell Dysfunctional correctly. Oh btw I look forward to hearing, "Do you want fries with that?", from you.

I see you are taking your advice well. Shoot down the competition and degrade them so you can have the spot even if you are clearly less talented!!! Once again I congratulate you.

In my opinion, each situation needs to be addressed on an individual basis by the coach. In some cases, players have single Moms who just are too naive to get their kids out there - and the kids MAY too naive (especially Freshmen or younger) to go out there. In a perfect world, the coach(es) would well publicize to kids/parents that multiple sport kids who will show up late should obtain special permission to do so. If the coach believes someone has been purposefully not come out early to avoid the hard work, then the coach should make a judgement call as far as how to handle the player's request. An interesting story, I started playing football in the 7th grade when I stupidly figured out my friends were not riding the bus home after school. One day, shortly after school started I just decided to go out to be one of the guys. I had never played football before and was in no kind of shape. Fortunately, in the 70s things were a bit more innocent and pure. The coach provided me with a uniform and let me come out. He didn't really seem to care that I had missed 2-a-days or that I never played. Eight years later I was 1st team All-SEC. Again - every case is special and the natural progression of things usually makes things even out. Ultimately, the coach has to do what he thinks will be most beneficial to the team performance and its cohesiveness. A tricky balance sometimes but, as someone said earlier, life is not fair.
