  1. I understand Blackman supporters standing behind their former coach. However, at some point, you have to start thinking that you do not know the entire story. The principal and director of schools are educated people and have made their decisions based on the facts so far. This is not a witch hunt, there are legitimate findings that have brought them to this point. They are not required to publicly disclose all of the information that led them to the decisions they have made. It is probably in the best interest of Mr. Shadowens that the entire story is not detailed in a somewhat unreliable news source such as the DNJ. It is their job to do what is best for the school and your children. It is that simple. Based on the facts so far, it is best for everyone involved for him to look to another county for employment.

As far as the anonymous posters who use this forum as a way to publicly slander a coach, administrator, parent volunteer or even worse a player, you are nothing but a coward. The purpose of these message boards are to discuss sports and voice opinions, not slander someone's character.

  2. Siegel is just plain bad this season and Beech is just plain good. I see Beech mercy ruling Siegel 45-10.

Siegel is not bad, not as strong as in recent years, but look at their schedule. Every one of their losses is against an opponent ranked in the top 10 in the state in their class.
  3. More importantly than anything that has been said already on this post, why are you all still discussing this game? It had no impact on your playoff situation and the fact that you are STILL ranting over it has got to be a distraction to two playoff bound teams. Move on before this "meaningless" game becomes a season-ending issue for your teams when they are not focused on the game ahead of them.

  4. Alright, then you explain to me how the Norfleet kid is eligible when he played in the State Tournament last year for Riverdale? One calendar year would be the end of May.

All depends on when Riverdale says he played....if I'm not mistaken, he wasn't eligible to play varsity until mid to late April for Central.
  5. Actually harder to transfer there than anywhere else in Rutherford County. 1) You have to have the grades and get accepted and 2) because the entire county is the zone, you can't just move in the zone and play. If you played at another high school, TSSAA rules you would have to sit out a year until you're eligible.

  6. They absolutely deserve more credit than they are given. This is a great group of coaches and more importantly a great group of men. Coach Wyant has said that he wants to make his players into better men not just better players. This isn't just talk, its how they coach. They are respectful of each other and the players. After seeing the behavior of some of the other coaches nearby, I can honestly say I have never been prouder to be a Siegel Star!

  7. riverdaleman, some folks would condenm us if we had put a cheerleader and a couple members of the band in.

You train your TEAM to be agressive and play hard and to score, and when they do folks gripe. The only way that game would have been close is if we only started and played three girls from the third string from the start!

As to what Knoxville thinks......well just come on off your hill and lets PLAY!

Like I said, typical Riverdale. That IS how they train their teams, no sportsmanship. A good high school coach will train his team to be good winners and to respect all opponents. Its not that difficult, play your bench and don't risk a starter getting hurt against a team that is absolutely no threat. I'm sure there are upperclassmen on Riverdale's bench that put in a lot of practice time and never see any significant time in a game. A performance like this makes it really hard for people to respect your program, no matter how far you get.

  8. I agree that you cant tell your bench not to score when they finally get in a game. However, looking at the box score, Riverdale's starters scored at least 75% of the points. So those bench players didn't do all the damage or even very much of it. I doubt many people that saw the score were surprised, its just typical Riverdale. Sportsmanship isn't a high priority.

  9. Kelly played at Millington Central High School for current UT Martin Head Coach Kevin McMillan. She earned a scholly to the University of Memphis where she lettered for four years under current Southern Miss head coach Joy Lee McNelis. She knows the game and will do an exellent job. Congrats!

She may know the game, but there's a lot more to coaching than that. Her track record as a coach is the bigger question.

  10. Siegel beat Oakland in OT but it was ugly to watch. Siegel obviously had the most talent, but typically gets outcoached and barely gets a win. Siegel continues to take the outside shots and turn the ball over when they definitely have the inside advantage in height and athleticism. Siegel should have won by 20 but cant make free throws and arrogantly doesn't even put men in the lanes when shooting free throws. Im no coach, but if my team was missing that many free throws, I would definitely have my 6'+ guys in there for the rebound and put backs. Once again, they have some talent, but I predict their coaching might not even get them out of the district. Great win for the Siegel girls, good job by the players and coaches.

  11. Size does matter. Who would you rather face- a keeper thats 5'5" or a keeper thats 6'7"? You can have the best defender in the state, but if the opposing forward is a foot taller, that gives him a great advantage on headers alone. Sounds like the kid from Centennial is the real deal. The teams that win it all don't always look the best the entire game, but they find ways to finish and win.

  12. How is that not a bad idea? Thats the problem with so many players now. They are never taught the right way to play basketball until they get to high school. So basicly you waste a year or 2 of the players career fixing all of the bad habits they picked up in middle school. Ask any high school coach how frustrating freshmen are because they have never been taught anything. That is why I think Wright will love Decker being at Oakland Middle.

I don't disagree with you. The fundamentals of the sport should be taught at the middle school level. I was referring more to the manner in which they are coached at the middle school that discourages some players. They love basketball and they love AAU but the middle school experience is lacking. Oakland is lucky, they will get a quality coach at the middle school level.

  13. Robert Brandon, Tae Martin, Damien Clark all played freshmen ball at Siegel this year. They went to Central Middle. There is another player Simpson who is about 6'5 that I thought was the best player on that freshmen team. It will be interesting to see what Dotson does with the players he gets from Central next year. All of my little brother's friends tell me all they do at practice at Central with Hooper is play gotcha and have open gym. That might work in middle school when you are loaded with talent but it wont work in high school in this district!! Dotson will have to coach those guys up.

Maybe not such a bad idea...they probably all come to high school still loving basketball. One of the problems with Siegel High Basketball is Siegel Middle basketball, boys and girls. I wonder how many stop playing or lose their passion for the sport after that experience.

  14. Siegel should be the team to beat for the next 4 or 5 years with the talent they're gonna have. Two sets of brothers will be starting for Dotson in 2 years if they develop like they should. Here are some names that we'll be hearing about: Ryan Jones, Charles Clark, Robert Brandon, Tae Martin, and Damien Clark. Like I said that should be the starting 5 but...

So where are these phenomenal players this year? I don't remember hearing about them playing at Siegel Middle...unless theyre not currently zoned to play at Siegel High.

  15. I don't know digger or southpaw, but I can tell you this is definitely being discussed at baseball fields in Rutherford County. Players and parents are discussing the possibility of starting Oakland in the 9th grade "to participate in the IB program" and coincidentally to also play baseball. Since the serious IB classes don't start until junior year, the student/player establishes himself at Oakland and then quietly drops out of the IB program later. I definitely don't support this idea and I wouldn't do it, but it does bring up some valid questions.

  16. Im kinda surprised at all the talk the middle school coaching vacancies have gotten. I know it would be great to have a good middle school coach to help develop your players before high school, but there are some bad middle school coaches out there now feeding some good basketball schools.
