  1. Even the younger kids who don't see the field during the playoffs are critical. The Booger D and Booger O stepped it up yesterday and made the 1st string better. They are working hard to give the starters a good look at what they will face Friday night. It's a TEAM effort every day.

It is good to know that your kid is helping make the starters at South Pitt better, zone.

  2. Yes...I will say that if Joe transferrs, then everything in my previous post is pointless...I think Joe is the future Captain and leader of this team...he can shoulder the load!

So who in the world is talking transfer?? Where are any of them going to go? Joe Muir? South Pitt? He sure wouldn't see time in that crowded backfield. They have about 6 that run a 4.5 or better and I know of two that don't play much that could go to jasper and start. Those two being Bibbs and Mitchell. Joe is a fine ball player and an even better baseball player, but the best he could do is play defense for the pirates. The other players could go somewhere else, but any area teams besides SP are just the same as Marion is. If these kids that are talking about transfering play baseball, then why would they even think about it? Baseball is the sport at Marion now and if they left, they would be ruining their chances for a state title in baseball. Pretty soon, football may be the third sport behind baseball and basketball. The B-ball team has some really good young kids now if the coach has any idea about what to do. Last year was a train wreck for them. Again it is up to the administration to hire the coaches to lead these teams to the best of their ability, not just get someone who works at the school like girls basketball has done in the past and now it seems the boys have done. Sorry about a wide variety of rambling, but just my thoughts.

  3. Well, No and since you didn't ask ill tell you why i believe York just isnnt that strong. The undefeated York team rolled into Jasper and won 19 - 7 against a .500 team (at the time) that had the QB and leading WR out with injuries. Jasper is average at best in 2A when at full strength (they lost to Bledsoe at home for goodness sakes). There very young and have been struggling with problems for awhile. Judging by the final score (statistics right?) it looks like those boys gave York a pretty good game. IMO any 2A team capable of winning a state championship should be able to dominate a team like Jasper. York didnt dominate them and i personally dont believe they will friday night either. My Wallyworld source and Mrs Capones neighbor (a jasper fan) tells me that Jasper is playing much better now with the WR back healthy and the stand in QB getting some game time and more settled. Just seems to me that the pressure is all on York friday. Jasper has nothing to lose really and York has everything to lose. I believe those valley boys are going to drive up to that mountain and give your York Dragons more game than you fans expect. Whichever team wins the game I expect them to lose the next week. Neither team is state championship material IMO which isnt worth much i admit. Good luck to both teams but as a valley and Marion County resident im pulling for Jasper to get the upset in this game. I believe they are capable of pulling it out.

Well, let's have the truth on this board. The truth being told, York should win friday night. They are 10-0 and ranked number five in the state. Most of you guys on here are already talking about Alcoa, but isn't that until the semifinals, right? If York is able to get past Smith Co. in round two, they will definitely not make it past DCA in round three. They have had a fine season so far and I think there are some Owls that want another shot at the dragons. Personally, I hope it doesn't happen because I would like nothing more than to see the Warriors come home with a victory.

  4. Have u seen Martin play??

I have seen martin play. He is a little rough around the edges, but has the toughness that the old warrior quarterbacks had. He isn't afraid to lower his head and run over someone, and that is part of what it takes. It is funny how our fans are talking junk to a 10-0 team. Give them the respect they deserve. They are 10-0 and while they didn't dominate when they came to jasper, they did enough to win. I think the thing that killed our boys in that game was the playaction pass more than anything. Some of these warrior fans have been talking all year and I don't have rose colored glasses on so I think that i can say that the key to this game is for marion not to pack it in when they get down by one or two scores like they have a bunch this year. Keep fighting back and answering back, and remember seniors(six of them I think) this could be the last time you ever step on the football field for competition so let's leave it all on the field!!!!

  5. well marion fans might not have seen how good york is at home but you hadnt seen how good this marion team is when they are heathly

So what is the staus of QB Trey Thompson? Is he going to be back under center, or will it be the talented Chris Martin? To me, it seems that he is a better qb than trey anyway. He has a stronger arm, looks at his progressions better and runs harder and lowers his shoulder when he runs it. Trey has always shied away from contact, and wont throw the ball away when he is in trouble.

  6. ...The "RAMS" beat Colquette in Jasper 21-7 to start the 13-game winning streak!!!

IT would be very hard to bring back Ken when his x-wife is envolved in the school system. He wanted to come back last year, but as long as she is here, we can forget about that!!

  7. You are a freakin joker volhooker. I would really like to know who you are and why are you not helping the coaches. Yeah people notice what the problems are, but I say that none of the lineman are too good. It doesn't much matter who you put out there. All of them are about equal. And sure people disagree with some things that coaches do but they are doing the best with what they have out there. We also wouldn't be 3-1 if we had the lineman that you want in the games. The boys quit against Boyd and it just wasn't the line. Tyner and South Pitt are way above us in terms of talent, and when you have a quarterback that calls the play and locks on the one reciever that the play is called for, then you have a horrid offense. The middle of the field has been open all year, but rarely does it get thrown there. There are much more problems than the line, we have recievers that don't fire off the ball and don't run sharp crisp routes and we could go on and on and on.

  8. After watching the both SP and Tyner play, I will have to go with Sp big in this one also. Honestly, this is probably the weakest Tyner team in years. I don't think that the speed is equal either. The pirates going to dominate the game because there are more gamebreakers on there team. I said earlier in the year that I was worried about Tyner's physical line whipping SP up front, but after watching Marion's much smaller line dominate a majority of the time friday night, except on the counters, I think SP may breeze in this one. Tyner's defense is pretty good though so that may give SP some trouble.

As for mr all state, I think that 20 int's shouldn't warrant an all-state selection last year, and the thing with trey is that he doesn't get rid of the ball when he is in trouble and he locks on one reciever instead of going through his progressions.

  9. I agree with most on here, marion hasn't displayed the mental toughness that it takes in a tough game yet. They quit in games against SP and Boyd, tonight will be no different I am afraid. I hope they prove me wrong as I am about to head over there, but Tyner if not grundy that is for sure. My prediction is now Tyner 45-13. If Boyd's terrible offense scores 28, then tyner might get 50, especially if they get some easy ones off of turnovers.

  10. No, I don't think that Red Bank will use it as motivation, they will still win by about 49-7. They will stack the line and force boyd to pass the ball and it will be very ugly. Tim Daniels is an outstanding coach and it seems like he is taking that program to another level that hasn't been seen there. I know people always talk about Weathers this and weathers that, but other than when they had riggs, they were basically an underachieving team. Dade was terrible when he was there and so soddy hasn't done anything either.

As far as tyner and homecoming is concerned, it makes no difference. It is probably a good idea to have marion on homecoming considering all the teams on their schedule. It is definitely not a slap in the face, matter of fact we have been several people's homecoming in the last few years. It isn't going to make our boys run faster or not turn the ball over. Matter of fact I think in 95 we were Shelbyville's homecoming and also Soddy Daisy's. It should make our boys want to play harder to try and ruin Tyner's homecoming, but if they are playing with heart and drive anyway it doesn't matter whether it is homecoming or not!!!

  11. My take on the Tyner game is much like some of you guys. Marion can't go in there intimidated by Tyner. The way to have sucess agianst them is to smack them back in the mouth when they smack you. Don't tuck your tails and give up. I have seen it too much, even this year, get down by a couple of scores, and then give up instead of fighting back. It is very true what they say, you can't coach heart. Sorry, boyd fans, but this is probably yall's weakest team you have had in several years. A truly one demensional offense since the quaterback went down, and Marion's d-fense played pretty well to hold you to one offensive TD. I think Pele had 100 field goals against us. Marion showed no fight in that game once they were down a couple of scores. If Marion fumbles 4 times against Tyner, it will get very, very ugly. The way to beat tyner is to run right at them not try to throw all over them. With the speed they have, look for them to jam the recievers at the line and blitz Trey unmercifully. That spells doom everytime. The middle of the field should be wide open with the bump and run but we will see if we can get the ball out there. Truth is Tyner's athletes are no better now than they were in the mid nineties when we used to beat them 59-0. Our talent isn't what it used to be though, but we can definitely play with them if our boys don't quit. Prove me wrong guys, but I will say Tyner 41 Marion 13

  12. I think the facemask you were talking about actually wasn't a facemask if it was #70 doing the tackling. I saw it from the home side and it looked to me like it was a horse collar, grabbed the inside of his shoulder pads. Congrats to SP, Marion looked good in the first half, although a few breaks went against them and then it snowballed. Trey T has improved a bunch since last year. SP was the more physical team tonight for sure, but to me, they looked like maybe they have been listening to the supporters saying they were going to the state and maybe they haven't worked real hard with conditioning. I bet half the team had cramps out there while only a couple from marion did. I guess that is props to coach beck for running the boys. South Pitt still has a long season to get in shape I guess. Robinson and Jones were studs tonight for SP. I would think that MCHS should beat the Bucs next week, and who is SP's victim?

  13. Just wanted to let you know you were all about the P pansey beating Temple last year ,I don't think you guy can meet that margin from last year.Hope no one else come to Temple.Lookout! S.C. will knock your shox off as will #33.

Wow, did anyone understand what that post said. I bet your principal and school are very proud of you!!! You are showing off your education, I hope you don't have to pay for that!!

  14. Yeah guys, the game is about 29+ hours away. I feel the spread on the game may be getting closer with all the rain we have been having. I think we got 2.4 inches yesterday and another good rain today. Although Marion's field drains well, another good afternoon thunder boomer and that speed advantage may be knocked down a little bit, and then it will be a battle in the trenches. Start those Fire Engines and wet the field fire dept. God may be smiling down on the Warriors!!!

  15. Yeah, mr. Bill you are clever. I never said that I could coach, if I thought I could, then my life and career would have taken that route. I haven't been on here tooting my own horn, just making observations on how I see things. I think we all, at times do that. I guess you don't. I will be there Friday night supporting my boys and I hoping to see a great game. I have always tried to support the team in every sport and I will no matter who the coach or how bad the players are. The next couple of years, they have a chance to be special in several sports if they get dedicated and have the drive that they need. If they aren't, then they can be average and win 7 or 8 ballgames with the schedule.

Also, Huricane, I will respectfully disagree with you on the speed on the '94 team. You mentioned two power backs, Rayburn prince and Eric Westmorland and Lebron Pickett, Anthony Martin also. Prince was probably 4.7 if that and was a fullback type and Eric was 4.6 at best. Anthony Martin was our fastest player by far and Lebron didn't play that much that year. Two guys you failed to mention were Lenny Cookston and Travis Houston. I think that SP definitely had the speed factor that year with Macho, perry, cory, michael mccarver, ETC. Didn't the twins play for yall then, linebackers??? Man what a game that was!!!! I hope this years is that exciting. That is probably one of the top three games that I have ever seen in high school football.

  16. The truth is this is the best talent marion has had in a while. I will agree totally with that statement. I know teachers that weren't certified to teach that got coaching jobs. Janelle Carter, the girls basketball coach several years ago didn't have a teaching certificate, so maybe whoever said that may want to read up on their facts. Maybe it is too early to tell about Jason, I hope he takes them to a new level, I just know him from school, that is all. I kind of disagree about tyner. They are pretty consistant, but they have a huge disipline problem. Think about it, several years ago they had two SEC caliber lineman, and they made it to the second round of the playoffs. They are an underachieving team. The reason that we can't play with them is that our boys are intimidated by them every year and don't have the mental toughness they need to beat them. Tyner has always had the more skilled athletes, but I remember the days when they were intimidated by us. Those days are long gone now until these kids think they can play with them. As far as SP goes, I do think that they can play with Tyner, the only thing that concerns me is their line is huge. It will be tremendously hard for SP to match that. I was at the game last year, and I think that was probably the worst Tyner has been in a good while and Marion still was intimidated by them. IT IS TIME TO TOUGHEN UP BOYS!!!! QUIT BEING SCARED OF THE RAMS!!!!

  17. Thats a good post friend and a loooong one to. Im wondering about you being a marion fan though. its almost sound like you went to the SP/Gordonville game last year and not the jasper/westmoreland game. Just wondering why a jasper fan would do that. they were both palyoff games. Maybe you watched a gamefilm of the SP game and i just missed that. As for vic getting a job because of his daddy, maybe so, maybe not. So what. Most people get opportunties in life through family. Every TVA /Shaw/County worker who didn't have some family help in getting a job please raise your hand now. I see what maybe three or four hands. Welcome to life thats just how things go. I no your point was he was not the most qualified but most people would disagree with you about that. Your final prediction for fridays game is reasonable i guess. If the sp backs can crack through the jasper line scores will come quick. If the jasper line and linebackers do a good job the game could be won through the air and even then i have to give the advantage to SP. Good luck to both teams and i dont like the 8:00 starting time.

I did go to the South Pitt game last year because westmoreland is so far away and I didn't get off work in time to go to it. I am a huge marion fan and try to support them whenever I can, but that doesn't change the way I feel about the outcome. I hope the boys prove me wrong. I have been wrong before and probably will again. No one answered me about SP new defense, and because gordonsville is big and talented up front, shouldn't that ring a bell to try to spread them out and open the field up, not just between the tackles??

  18. TheTruthPrevails,

Old Pirate says it is great that you brought up items of interest I found your comments interesting.

    Key items of interest:

    1. Vic got the head coaching position because he was the best person for the job period. He had earned the chance to become a head coach with time as an assistant under quite possibly the best young coach around in Danny Wilson.

2.Ken's replacement search became limited when the MONEY boosters begin to fail to support their little supplimental coaching fund. This failure aided Ken's departure. Surely you know it is NOT as simple as you comments suggested on finding the BEST coach around. MONEY......... HONEY makes the world turn.

    3. Jasper folks blame the problems ALL on the coaches. Granted some blame falls on the coaching staffs.

However........ "thetruthprevails", jasper has not had the talent that was available to Ken. It takes more than putting on the purple/white to make good players.

    4. SP did have a problem with Gordonsville last year and will AGAIN this year. They were a good team that took it to the Pirates. Hopefully the Pirates will remember take it as a huge challange. ALL they can ask for is a chance to compete.

    5. SP really appreciates the support of the jasper fans when their team is sitting at home. The Pirates would certainly be better prepared to have more true all out wars on Friday nights, much like the good ole days in the SVC. You could just about count on a battle every week.

    6. Old Pirate respects the fact you didn't attempt to talk trash about the school. SP has a state wide good rep for its school and football program. Hopefully the bb and baseball programs will gain the same type of respect.

The truth is that there was a guy that coached the same offense of a good Carson Newman program that has wanted the job several times, but for some reason he keeps on getting overlooked. I don't think that money is the issue. The reason Pruitt came is because he got some incentitive to come. Talent is down, but the talent hasn't been down for all 12 years since the last title. There has probalby been 3 or 4 times that the team could have done something, maybe not a title but could have won several region titles.

  19. Okay guys, let's lay it all on the line. I will say that I am a Warrior fan and have been all of my life. I am also a realist. I have read all of this board and must say some of you don't know what you are talking about. This South pitt team is really really talented from what I hear. I haven't seen them at all but I know they have loads of speed, and Marion doesn't. I also hear that South Pitt is running a 3-5 defense. Someone please tell me why. I know that they haven't got a lot of lineman and they want to get their athletes on the field. Didn't they struggle stopping the run last year? I watched the Gordonsville game and they lined up and smacked SP in the mouth. Now Marion is no Gordonsville, but they do have good size on the line. The biggest reason for the decline in jasper is that they have no drive and work ethic. That goes for the administration also. Look at the coaches since Ken. Pickett, Taylor, Pruitt and Snobird. Pruitt was an excellent coach, but the other three??? I think that most of you will agree that when Ken left there should have been a search commitee formed and found the best coach available in the southeast. If the School doesn't care, how can the players?? Marion does have some good assitants now and that will help Evans, but if he was that good of a coach, Ken would have hired him at Grundy County. The same goes for South pitt. They will go as far as their coach will take them. Most pirate fans realize that Vic got the job because of his dad. He has a sparkling record, but it is in maybe the weakest regions in 1A. Minus Temple last year, since Boyd moved up that region is terrible so SP can set all kinds of offensive records year in and year out. That doen't help them in the playoffs. Props to them for picking up Tyner this year, and playing Boyd again. The Tyner game should be outstanding, maybe being won in the trenches. They are very similar to Gordonsville in their line play. Getting back to that playoff game last year and to the coach taking them as far as they can go. SP had the decided advantage in speed last year in that game and time and time again they ran dive plays instead of trying to stretch the field. It is hard to run up the middle when your line gets outweighed by 100 pounds. I heard lots of grumbling after that game about coaching and I think if there was a good coach down there, they would have at least 3 more State Champions in the last decade. As for the game Friday, South Pitt is way to tough for Marion with them running the spread. That is a mistake prone offense and it can snowball in a hurry and get out of hand with a couple of turnovers. If they line up and pound SP it might be a good game as a 3-5 defense can't stop dives and misdirection plays. Three of four yards a carry would keep the Pirate speed on the sidelines. If we have no turnovers and minimize big plays we can stay in the game, but I think SP wins 35-13, or at least I hope that is all it is.

    GO WARRIORS!!!!!

    THE TRUTH SHALL PREVAIL!!!
