  1. As a WB fan, hoping Oak Ridge pulls this one out. You guys correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe this is for the region title. I believe it is for a share. William Blount only has one loss in region play, that was to Farragut. And Oak Ridge lost to WB. So, I believe WB would be region champs and no. 1 seed with an Oak Ridge victory on Friday night. Well, they would share the region title with Oak Ridge, but tie-breaker would make WB the no. 1 seed.
  2. Yeah, East having their struggles offensively this year, but...still have to give West a lot of credit on completely shutting down the Hurricanes. I mentioned earlier they held the Canes to 92 rushing yards...if you add in their passing stats...95 total yards of offense. That won't be many teams, if any. As far as officials...yeah, there is absolutely no truth to any of that. I do not have the total penalties in front of me, but we always get the final stats at the end of the night. The numbers were very close to each other. I think East fans are mainly upset with the two unsportsman-like penalties they got down on the goalline. That was instrumental in West's only touchdown drive. I tend to agree with your observations. I think if Boone can only line up and run between the tackles, West will be able to win this one. However, I do know they have an oustanding tailback that occasionally lines up under center. It will definitely be an interesting game.
  3. Morristown West played a very tough schedule in the first half. Got a little banged up by Catholic and Science Hill. Should have beaten Jefferson County (gotta hang on to the ball!). And had dominating wins over Cherokee, David Crockett, and Morristown East. I know the East score was 10-0, but there was never a threat from East. The Canes were held to 92 yds rushing and never once crossed the 50 into Trojan territory. I think this one will be another close, defensive battle. MWHS 20 DBHS 14
  4. Well, it will indeed be interesting to see. West has seen the wing-T run as smoothly and fluently as it can be when they played Catholic. They were able to shut down Catholic for the most part. Two big returns kept that game from being only 14-6. Having said that, I think Catholic is a better team than Fulton. So, that bolds well for East tomorrow night. Point I was making earlier was that West will be well rested and focused purely on East. East will have to quickly turn around from putting a lot of emotion and preparation into the Fulton game. So, that could favor possibly favor West. Either way, it will be a great game. We can talk about that more next week though. Good luck to the Hurricanes tomorrow night!
  5. "The plus side of this game is that we will see fulton speed and then see west. I would guess that west does not have fulton speed." You're right. I doubt West will have the speed of Fulton. But remember, West has faced Science Hill and Catholic. Catholic is just as good if not better than Fulton. They have seen the biggest running back they will see this year in Solomon Duanah of SHHS. You guys have Fulton to worry about, and I wish you all the best. But I can't help wonder...after absolutely dismantling David Crockett, and having the bye week before East... West is going to be well prepared and rested. Will all of these factors, along with having to poor everything into the Fulton game, be too much for East?
  6. TrojanOT50,I have seen every Morristown West game this year, and I can tell you the two biggest problems are mistakes and the competition. They have played 3 very strong teams in Catholic, Jefferson County, and Science Hill. Catholic is a huge power in class 3A, and with Jefferson County and Science Hill being 5A...its hard to classify those losses as upsets. Science Hill and Catholic are probably the strongest teams that West will see all year, short of Maryville (should they meet in the playoffs). As far as what can be handled on the field...turnovers and special teams have been the most problematic. In the 3 losses, they have given up a touchdown return on special teams. The Jefferson County game, it was turnovers that ultimately did in the Trojans. However, they played their best game of the season against David Crockett. It really looks like they have righted the ship, and I anticipate them improving in the 2nd half of the season. It all starts with the first game after the BYE week....MORRISTOWN EAST!
  7. Anybody have info on the starters for the Pioneers? Offense...defense...and special teams?
  8. Alright guys, two teams desperately needing a victory as the meet up in Jonesborough. Whats the popular opinion on this one? Also...DCHS folks...how is the stadium at Crockett? This will be my first trip there.
  9. Anybody out there got a report on the final score of the Volunteer v. Clintwood game up there in Church Hill? Folks around Morristown are just wondering. Thanks!
  10. Congratulations to Science Hill. You guys have some real talent and speed on that team. And from what I understand, the team will only get better the next couple of years. Duanah is one heckuva running back. Absolutely amazing, and fun to watch. Hill and Joslin had outstanding games as well. Again congratulations. I thought Morristown West played one of their gutsiest games of the season, but were just clearly out matched. Trojans had a couple of opportunities to tie up or keep the game close, but were turned away with turnovers inside the 10. And they were again burned on special teams with that punt return by Kinley. I am sure Coach Woods' team will learn from those mistakes, and they can only get better by playing a quality opponent like Science Hill. Good luck with the rest of the Toppers' season.
  11. Burke-Toney Stadium is probably the best facility in Region 2-4A. The visitor side bleachers, while not as high, are fantastic for watching a game. Don't over look Morristown West boys. Coach Don Woods' team may be a little down this year, but their defense plays hard to the ball, and their offense loves to chew up clock. They have a good senior QB who can quickly break a game open with a deep pass. He is very adept at running the option, executing a play action pass, and generally avoiding troublesome situations. They have a trio of running backs who will all see playing time. Defensively, they have a very experienced linebacking corps, and the OLBs can switch very quickly to DEs to make a five-down front. They base out of a 3-4...but sometimes they go to a 5-2 just before the snap, causing confusion for inexperienced QBs.
  12. wow, this is a very intriguing matchup. Mo. West played with a lot of emotion against Cherokee and the seniors stepped up to have a huge game. The Trojans defense completely shut down Cherokee's wing-T offense. If the Trojans can keep the mistakes to a minimum like they did last week, I like West to continue rolling up the momentum and take a close one over Science Hill late in the game.
  13. Haha, I understand. Like I said, I believe this region is wide open right now because it does appear West is down. If, at this point two weeks in, I would probably label Boone or Cherokee as the sleeper. I think the region will come down to East v. Greeneville. I think West will bounce back to be a playoff team, but from what I have seen...they may just be spoiler in the region this year. What is everyone's opinion on Volunteer's start to the season? I think a huge disappointment would be the case for their season opener.
  14. Haha! I like the enthusiam. The "sleeper" monacher on Greeneville is coming from all the preseason reads. I have seen Greeneville in action at the jamboree, and I have also followed them through local papers, and I can say that I am indeed impressed with Greeneville. I would venture to say they are number 1 right now in this region. But regardless of whether they are down or not...the road to the championship in region 2-4A still goes through Morristown, my friend. And I don't just mean West. East will be a tough team, as well.
  15. I am sorry if I cam across to anyone, JC fan, MWest fan, overall HS fan as believing that JC did nothing to earn that victory. Like I said before time and again....that was a huge win for Coach Anderson and his team fought hard to get him that victory. What I meant by saying "given a gift in the form of 4 turnovers and 28 points" is this....I honestly did not, and do not think JC wins that game without those momentum changing turnovers in the 4th qtr. Anyone who saw the game saw a Trojan team come out of the half strong and quickly take a 20-7 lead. I also saw JC respond with a beautiful drive, highlighted by the 75 pass play from Long to McFall. But I also felt that West's offense had established control at the line of scrimmage. The turnover by West at their own 30 yard line is ultimately what did the Trojans in. I give JC all the credit in the world. When the game appeared to be in control of West, JC kept their poise and their heads up. They played harder than the Trojans in the final minutes, and were rewarded for it. Look folks, I was not looking for trouble or trying to cause an argument on this thread here. I certainly meant no disrespect to JCHS. I apologize to anyone he felt I did cause them disrespect. Now, this thread was created to discuss how Morristown West will bounce back after starting 0-2. So, please, let's get back to the true topic of this thread.
  16. Alright, guys... First of all...I am William Blount HS, UT grad. I have no affiliation to Morristown West other than the fact that my job is to call their games. I try to be as impartial as possible. So don't YOU dare sit on that high horse and call me a homer or say I belittle a team's big win. Second of all...I was not belittling JC's victory nor whining. What I was referring to is the fact that West had the game in hand, until the 4 turnovers late in the game gave JC the ball in West territory on several occassions with all the momentum. That is what I was referring to. It was a great victory for Coach Anderson and his staff. JC is a much improved team from last year. Third...the play JCSPORTSBUD referred to....that play was, in fact, a close call. His knee appeared to touch down the same time as the ball came out. I do not argue referee's calls. I don't see any need for it. I was just observing the officiating for that evening. They seemed to lean on calls depending on where they were to the sidelines. Don't forget...West got a HUGE break themselves when Holton Goan, the punter, touched his knee down before getting the ball away. He was never ruled down. The officiating was a little off that game, and i was making an observation. Fourth...JC4Life...I don't wear crimson colored glasses. I wear Big Orange-tinted ones. I never said the pts. and turnovers weren't earned. Obviously, you have to play hard to make the breaks go your way. They outplayed the Trojans in the 4th qtr. No doubt. But...the point I was arguing was...West holds on to the football, the game goes a completely different direction. It was a game of turnovers and momentum shifts..and JC made their move at the right, and most crucial time. By the way...if you were listening to my broadcast, I would first like to thank you for that. And second, I did spend quite a bit of time in the 4th talking about what a huge victory for JC and Coach Anderson that was. I congratulated them on several occassions. And I still am.
  17. Yeah, I have heard that from others. But, based on overall talent, it seems that East is the best all-around team. Now, West played Jefferson County to the point, West was up by 13. But turnovers let the Pats back in the game with all momentum, and they rolled. If West cuts down on the mistakes and gets better on the offensive line, it could be another solid year for Coach Woods' squad. What is your opinion on Greeneville being a legitimate sleeper this year?
  18. I agree with your assessment. The Trojans appear to be getting better each week, and I see them having a strong finish. But I do believe that East will be the team to beat. And I am very excited, and look forward to calling the game. I am hoping we might work something out to simulcast with Mike Rypel, the Voice of the Hurricanes on WCRK, since both WMTN and WCRK are sister stations now under the Lakeway Publishers banner. It shall be a fun time!
  19. I attended the WB v. DB game, and I am very impressed with the Governors this year. Coach Meadows is slowly but surely building a third power in Blount County. I think WB better be ready and prepared to play this game, but I think WB has the coaches, the talent, and the motivation. Not to mention...the Govs have Kasey Whitehead, a playmaker at a key position. WB 31, SD 14
  20. Hello all, this is the Voice of the Morristown West Trojans on WMTN AM 1300, Darren Headrick. Sorry, had to drop in a plug for my station. We have bar none the best coverage of Trojan athletics! Whoops!..did it again. Anyway, as many know, the Trojans are off to a surprising 0-2 start after giving the Jefferson County Patriots a gift in the form of 4 turnovers and 28 points. Just wondering the popular opinions around the area...will West bounce back and still be a contender in Region 2-4A? How do you think they will fare against the Cherokee Chiefs? Let me know...maybe your comments or thoughts will be heard on the air Friday nights on WMTN AM 1300...your home for Morristown West football!!
