  1. Sorry bout the weight room numbers but Independence first varsity season was 2005 and their first win was a againist Coulmbia Central, and they havent played Ensworth since then. I think maybe you were mistaken for a jv game because i know each year our jv plays Ensworth.

It must have been the year before, but their varsity players were out there: Scott Pettigrew, Chris Darnell, etc.

  2. I know someone posting on here has some knowledge of how the team is looking in the weight room. I, and others, would greatly appreciate someone passing along that info. Thanks. And Indy beat Ensworth the year Indy opened. I don't know if you can constitute that as a varsity game but it was Indy's best vs Ensworths best-all assuming.

  3. like you said springhill is returning 20 seniors and alot of them have game experience. they should be better than they have in recent years.

Marshall county lost their qb and all-region reciever/db and quite a bit more talent to graduation. They always have alot of talent so dont expect them to be a pushover or anything but i think they will be down.

Page on the other hand is going to be really down. they lost tons of 4 year starters including Neel and Lankford. they will have a tough road next year.

Small correction: Lankford was a 3 year starter. Josh McMurray started at RB Lankford's freshman yr.

  4. Interesting since they just went to the state championship two seasons ago! Totally discredits what you are saying. There are enough there to win. Best of luck to Indy except one week /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Competition was also down that season in the region. Which lead to an easy path through the playoffs, due to the fact the west side of the bracket is horrible outside of region 6 and the occasional Germantown.

  5. It is quite obvious that you have no concept of what a knowledgeable coach is looking for in terms of O & D Line strength. It is April and in terms of raising Juniors and Seniors all your interior starters should squat at least 400 lbs. and at the very least 50 % of them should bench 300 lbs. Unless your planning on being 4 & 6 again ! ! !

While the importance of the bench press and squat are extremely beneficial in off season weight lifting for football, some type of clean (power, hang, etc.) is just as vital if not more. That lift really teaches the youngsters explosiveness and power in the weight room that directly transpires on to the field in the fall. I hope the new Indy strength coach does not avoid this, sometimes unpopular, lift.

It is surprising that there are not more OL or DL that bench 300 pds. To date there is 1. But these next few months are extremely important in reaching maximal gains during the off season.

  6. Still have to play the same teams, just go 5A once playoffs start. Might give them a chance since Brentwood and Franklin are in 6A and the Rutherford County schools are all 6A.

Will be real TOUGH though! We will see what life without Scales is like! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

    Very true, very true. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  7. Your right man, my apologies. Coach T is about giving opinions and not aguring or ranting on about other than sports in schools.

But the only reason the bball coach got fired was that Indy never won a post season game. Now of course when your a coach and have not led a team to a post season victoryin 4-5 years it isnt very good, but all the players loved him as the coach and saw him as a role model in a way. Dr. C didnt understand the players loved him that much so i know he feels very sorry bout that, he is just trying to get a coach who knows how to win in the postseason and hopefully he will find one who will also be a good role model as well. And, like you said, hopefully the coach wont mind Drew Kelly playing DL and Forward for the next two years.

But on a positive note the Eagles new strengthing coach is also the student pastor at a local chruch, hes a real great guy and really strong. So you know Dr. C isnt hiring all ignorant bumbs or former Franklin coaches he knows.

Indy went to the region tourney back in 2006.

  8. It seems like at Indy no ones job is safe. Smith left because he knew the writing was on the wall that at some point it was Eubanks job. Eubanks has done well but has he done well enough? All you have to do is look at how the basketball coach was let go of his duties. He did well too and he was fired.

Smith left because he failed to make the playoffs (which would have been considered successful by the standards set) and from some internal pressure. If Smith made a run the year before they were runner-ups then you can bet he's still the Indy coach today.

  9. Hmmm. Whoever got their info is questionable, Alex does bench that much but i dont think a guy like him can out bench a guy like dalton burge, who by the way has been the varsity heavy weight wrestler since his freshmen year. My source, who is actually on the team, says Dalton can bench 300+ but besides him im sure the other OL/DL's who are not far from Dalton or Alex. There will be exprience on both sides of the line from this past year (Juniors and Sophs). The next season is still very far away, plus whats wrong with your QB having one of the highest bench press ont the team? I bet money Tim Tebow can out bench most of the other players at UF, just something to think about.

Not surprising that there's at least one OL that can bench 300. However bench is only one of the 3 crucial lifts for maximal off season gains in the weight room. The other two being squat and clean (power or hang). But this is not the first time Indy has had a QB at the front or towards the front of the team on the bench press-Emory Martin a few years back was a 300 pound bencher along with several other teammates at the time. I think I remember ole Smitty saying something to me about him having 5 or 6 300 pound benchers on the team back in 06.

  10. Maybe the poor soul just woke up to reality. It can be a shock, I'm sure.

Very true, so very true. But I would still like to know if Indy is progressing in the weight room this off season, or if they have taken another approach to their off season plans. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  11. Two things:

1)What is the bump reference all about? I'm new to the message board world.

2)Again if my source is accurate, this is the best weight lifting year Centennial has ever had. I'm not saying that there are several 300 pound benchers, but they have more guys with decent strength than they have ever had in the past.

Centennial could have a very interesting program the next few years since they have been placed in 5A and are now OPEN ZONED!

That's good to know they're hittin the weight room. It really does pay off come time fall. But the whole "bump" phrase just allows the topic to go back to the top of the list of topics in the thread, in other words the most recent topic someone has posted on. But it also years for more discussion about the topic at hand.
