this Moktani kid from Munford at 126 is on a freakin mission. took out Warnock and Sells back to back

Agreed, great tournament for Moktani.  Would have been nice to see Pullen from Collierville who beat him in region finals in this bracket as well.  Shame he had issues with first opponent, the scale.

  2. Going to be some very good finals this evening.  Not sure what others think but i know I look forward to the following in terms of match quality: 126, 152, 160, 182

Many kids I am excited to see close out their careers this evening.

Wells goes out and gets pinned in the first round

Yeah that was the biggest upset in R1 for sure.  Unfortunately a lot of this 220 group struggles to stay consistently on their offense.  I think whichever one stays offensive the most today will likely walk away on the top step.

  4. Rolling back to the streaming discussion on this.

Does anyone know if there is a good way to stream multiple matches at once?  I am not seeing a split screen option and if I bring the stream up in two browser tabs the NFHS feed tells me I can only stream in one place at a time.

Had really hoped to be able to have multiple mats up at one time.

  5. Working from memory but I think most of those dates are good with two exceptions.  The state tournament could change and Bluff City Brawl is March 27th (Sat) not the 24th.

The date for the state is current being evaluated by the board as it now conflicts with when Prep Nationals are scheduled.

I believe the TWF schedule should be formally posted by the start of the TSSAA state tournament.

I'm hearing some info that the ticketing system timed out parents before they could purchase tickets to see their own son or daughter wrestle for a state championship.

I realize there are Covid protocols in place but can TSSAA right this wrong so at least parents can get in?

If they will not do anything, can this message board group band together to make sure these parents are able to attend?

Pretty sure teams were told what the deadline was going to be before the TSSAA opened the tickets up to the public.  I know it was publicized for our parents.  If they didn't take care of getting their tickets before that point that is unfortunate, procrastination is a killer.

Don't know that there is anything this board could do unless they find someone on here who bought the publicly available tickets and is willing to give them up.

TSSAA website states "No tickets will be sold to the public." but then the Governor lifted attendance restrictions as of February 1st.

Does anyone have any inside info on if there will be tickets sold for spectators for Thursday, Friday or Saturday?

On top of that will this weather and subsequent school closings affect State competition?

My understanding is that teams have been given until a set date to have wrestler's families buy the two per athlete allotment.  If after that date there are still some tickets available then they are going to be opened up to the general public.

I don’t see 2 time defending state champ at 195 (now at 220) and 2 time defending 4A football champ Deuce Morton on this list? I can’t see leaving such a dominant wrestler off? I guess it’s because we are in East Tennessee. The land of no respect. If he can pull it off, he would leave school with 5 state titles. 3 wrestling and 2 football. As it stands now, not to shabby with 4. Your thoughts?

You are talking about an A/AA wrestler on a thread about DII... hence you won't see him on the list.  Not too many thoughts there.

  9. Probably also worth noting that just because the government lifts a regulation that it doesn't mean it is a good time to go back to doing things full bore.  It just indicates that the government doesn't feel things are at a point where they need to control it.  Local health departments actually overrode the governor in some areas already.  This would still come down to what local agencies and the state governing body think is right.

I could almost guarantee you that there is no way the TSSAA takes a step back from their current plans / protocols because that could in theory open them up to scrutiny / liability.

Yeah, the Tssaa waived the rule this year for all sports because of impact covid is having on the ability of schools to host competitions.  I think it’s just for this school year.

Its interesting as there are no such statements on a timeframe in the TSSAA Handbook.  I would have thought it to have been a little better publicized if they were doing it with that intention.

The rumor is that Blair is being forced to wrestle a schedule that stays within the borders of New Jersey and only a handful of NJ teams are willing to schedule Blair.  Most of the Blair wrestlers returned to their home states but they will be back at Blair next season.  The question that I have is how is he eligible at Cleveland High School after he just competed is an "All-Star" match against the kid from Oklahoma.  The TSSAA does not allow baseball, basketball or football players to do this until the official high school season is over.  Not trying to stir the pot but asking a legitimate question.

The TSSAA apparently changed that rule at some point.  There were also a couple of kids from Lakeway Christian Academy that competed in-season at an event not as part of their team that got me to looking at the handbook again.

Not going to go search through the handbook now but the gist of it was that they have removed the "all-star" event restriction from sports with an individual championship.  There is even a FAQ that covers that exact scenario for golf and then mentions it would be the same for other sports and names wrestling.

Certainly interesting to me because it seemed like that was the type of rule change that would have received a little more visibility in the past.

  12. Kaleb Baker also placed 2nd at Tulsa as well as an 8th grader, so likely 15U (I would have to go back and look).  You could say he didn't make the finals since he lost in quarters or semi's (I can't remember which) to eventual champ and wrestled back to true 2nd.

Always good to celebrate success, but hate to misrepresent the past with statements too broad.

Was good to see the success of the BoomRanch / Higher Calling guys this weekend.  Tulsa is a very tough event and certainly worth celebrating any level of success there.

Interesting weekend for national tournaments with several very good teams / kids ending up in Gattlinburg for the NUWAY events.  Hate to see those types of scheduling conflicts.  For example, I know some very tough PA kids ended up in Gattlinburg.

Alright, fooseball95, I'll bite.  You forget about the team across town as a normal top team?  BCHS is certainly one of the top teams in the state, year in and year out.  And the other teams you mentioned as well.  I'll admit though, Cleveland is primed and should win another two titles this year.  Everyone else is going for second.  Did Cleveland get a transfer that attended Blair Academy?

My understanding it that Cody Chittum will be wrestling for Cleveland this year and will not be back at Blair Academy for this year.

    1. Would National Preps let TN kids who didn’t wrestle in the state tournament in?  Yes, in a heartbeat.

    2. Are any of the TN Preps going to skip the TSSAA STATE tournament and go to National Prep instead?   Unfortunately, No.

    3. If I was given the option of skipping the TSSAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP for National Prep would we? Yes, in a Heartbeat

    4. Are we disappointed that TSSAA screwed the Preps out of National prep this year however unintentional it may have been?

Yes, it is the most asinine and ridiculous thing the TSSAA has ever done. I don’t care if it was accidental or not.  Take your job just a half bit serious TSSAA and consider the fact that you just cost about 25 Tn kids the opportunity to earn scholarships money at one of the top 5 national tournaments that is one of the most recruited tourneys out there. Seriously, how hard is it to look at a darn calendar and take into consideration a tournament the Prep schools have been going to continually for the last 30 years!  Absolutely PATHETIC TSSAA!!

You sure about those two statements?  I have no clue on first item but I know we had some kids who didn't get in because they missed the state tournament due to health reasons and would have gotten in otherwise.  I just have no clue what National Preps opinion would have been.  On the 2nd item, I have been around DII a pretty good while and don't think athletes from TSSAA schools have been attending continually for 30 years.  I can pretty distinctly remember the first few years in recent history when TN schools started getting approval to attend within the last 5-10 years.  There may have been some time in distant history when some schools sent guys, but I would be willing to bet you some food at the state tournament that TN hasn't sent kids for 30 continuous years.

Both The Baylor School & The McCallie School may end up at the National Preps instead of participating in the TSSAA State Wrestling Tournament but I seriously doubt that will happen.  Most of the time when something this significant happens "EVERYONE" knows well in advance.

I agree with this and unless the situation has changed, which it may have, TN teams needed to get approval to enter the National Preps.  That approval had recently adjusted so that state finalists were automatically in and other placers could petition to be let in and might get in based on other spots filled in the tournament, resume, etc.

I think that the relevant clause in that is the one that speaks to needing to participate in qualifying zone tournaments.

Perhaps something has changed as I am not that close to the process anymore and was never that close to begin with.  However, seems to me that thanks to the way the calendar falls this year, all TN private schools would miss the National Preps.

  16. Father Ryan is probably on a similar level to the team they had last year.  CBHS was a stronger team than Father Ryan last year.

CBHS will be without about 3 starters this weekend, at least one of which is a major contributor at this level as a 2x state finalist.  That said, they did just add a returning state champ back to their lineup for the first time this year.  I would expect them to be in the mix at this year’s event but may be tough to push for the top spot with a few of their guys out.

152 Evan Anthony Memphis, TN (Christian Brothers) MD Anthony Manella Chattanooga, TN (Baylor), 10-0

Evan was somehow ranked 3rd in the D2 rankings even though he is a 2 time state finalist and Manilla the freshman was ranked ahead of him at 2nd.

Evan Anthony is clearly the number one guy at 152 now.  Very impressive win for Evan and Christian Brothers!

You say Anthony was “somehow” ranked 3rd behind Manella but aren’t those your rankings?

Ghouse, seems that the good ol days were truly the good ol days. Anyone like Bayoubear, walkinvol, Harryt, and the legend Bucklateral, that has stepped up to carry the torch?

    Hope you are well,

    bcb iii:flower:

BCB, good to see an old face.  There are a few folks around who may carry some similar input on but no t truly like the group that used to be involved in the, as you say, good ole days.  Sad that I am speaking like that now too... been around too long.

Had a good laugh on your Marchetti comment.

Hope all is well old timer.
