  1. It goes to show how sports crazy we get. It is all about being #1. If somebody stacked, or rigged, the all-tournament team it is wrong, and should be considered cheating. I have had to watch my daughter play her heart out and have everyone tell her that she was going to make an all-tournament team just to watch a child who is a coaches pet, and whos parents are politically connected win out. Say what you want, but that is wrong. Is the all-state tournament team already selected? If so why even play. Volleyball is a TEAM sport, way to many people get attention because they are big hitters. This whole situation is sad.
  2. It is hard when coaches play favorites, either to the parents that are constantly in their ear, or to the superstar. I appreciate the honesty of your post. I wish more parents (and coaches) would just let the girls play and have fun. It is difficult being a teenage girl. We have become a society that only focuses on number 1. I am sure this is not the first time (or the last) that politics have gotten an unearned or undeserved reward.
  3. Was the "Big Haired" lady the asst coach from last season? I must have misread this post earlier? If it was a parent from last years team this is even worse. Our school has the same problem with parents of recent graduates who try to stir stuff up. Let the girls play. All Tournament slections ARE important to the girls. They should be fair, and not based on political correctness. Catholic hosted the Regional Tournament Tuesday and of the four teams Stone Memorial had three people make the team, Anderson County had three, Seymour had 1 and Gibbs had zero. That was probably fair. Coaches need to be more worried about other stuff than making sure certain players make these teams.
  4. 5-Sport, I agree 100%. These all tournament teams are a joke. The "committee" is usually picked by the coach and told who to pick before the first ball is played. Head coaches make sure the "right" girls get picked as supposed to the ones that "deserve" to picked. Good luck tonight, but I doubt you will need any! Should be an easy ride.
  5. Hope all you want, now that Catholic is out there is no one standing in Greenbrier's way. It will be an all green halloween. 5-Sport Dad has predicited a repeat all season and he is going to get his wish. It will be a surprise if Greenbrier drops a game from here on out.
  6. Well said 5 sport. There is a huge bias on this web site. Fact: During the last 3 years, without question, the best two A/AA teams have been Catholic and Greenbrier. They should have met in the finals last year. Those two teams are driven by talent, not coaches. I am not saying the coaches do a bad job, in FACT they do a good job, but they would do a GREAT job if they gave the better athletes more freedom. I agree with catsfan, how hard is to coach two teams like this that have more talent then any other school. Catholic and Greenbrier are the top two schools because they have the best talent. I know it is not the political thing to say but does anybody really think that the finals this year is NOT going to be Catholic and Greenbrier. They have the most talent, and should win. That is no slam against Page. The coaches job is to let the talent play. If Greenbrier doesn't have Kayla Arnold, they don't win. It wouldn't matter how good their coach is. She doesn't hit the ball. This young lady is an awesome talent. She has solid teammates around her that know how to get her the ball. Same for us, take away the talent and Game Over. We lost the state championship last year and the year befoe because we were over coached. Look at the team we had and we play a new player at the state tournament, who had been ineligible all year? Sports are driven by the talent, at every level. At the end of the day Catholic and Greenbrier will be the best 2 teams just like it has been for the last three years.
  7. Great job! I thought all along that Greenbrier was the team to beat, this just proves it. I like what you said about the coach needs a little "tweaking." Great athletes really don't need that much coaching. I think the coach gets in the way. The better teams almost seem to "coach" themselves. Some of these high school coaches want all of the attention. How hard is it to set the ball to the best hitter and let her get a kill. I thought Greenbriers only mistake last year was not getting the better of the two sisters the ball MORE last year. She was unstoppable! Which of the Arnold sisters was the MVP? I could coach that girl. Lets see, hmmm....., okay here is our plan we are going to set her the ball and get out of the way. Catsfan, this may be the best post I have ever read. It is about time that the athletes get the credit, and not some of these "coaches." I wish it was more about the girls!!!
