  1. OK guys, this is my last thread of the year regarding football. Today, I was posting with Pepvol, and had a thought.......what if Maryville goes 60-0 in 5A? What will be the outcry of DI schools? What will the TSSAA member schools do to try and get them out of DI? Will they try to send them to their own league (by themselves)? Will they try to throw them to DII by saying they have kids going there out of zone and that they pay tuition to attend? This is a VERY serious topic. Let's hear some discussion.....

Going to the semifinals in 5a would be a much bigger jump then being undefeated in 4a.Taking on the big guys week in and out would have a huge effect by playoffs end. I think they could run the table as well as many of the big 5a teams,{ one time}.To do it several years in a roll ? I don't see it being done at the next level of play for the Rebs, even though they are a great program. If they are as good as the national ranking says,it would still be a very hard thing to do without a letdown game somewhere along the way.

  2. I look forward to seeing the new field and think it will be a great source of pride for Dobyns Bennett.Does anyone know how the off season workouts are going and if we are getting anything out of another expensive project from a couple years back, the field house.

  3. What is his last name, current year in school, and from what high school in NC?

Don't know his name for a fact, but was told he was a junior that was allready being looked at by some schools.Even if it isn't true,it may light a fire under some of our current players to work extra hard during the off season

  4. DB had 2 good athletes at last year's spring practice. They never made it to August. They had the size, speed and strength, just missing between the ears. Both would have made a difference if they could have stuck around.

I don't know what one of the kids did,but I heared some pretty bad stuff about Michael W.I don't know if it was true, but DB has let some kids with bad problems come back. This however does not make the new kid anything like those that have messed up.I'd take a great kid that is a good athlete over a problem kid that is a great athlete any day.The new player may be a great athlete that happens to be a great kid as well.

  5. I have been told that a big ,strong fast kid with Division 1 talent has transfered to DB.Has anybody heared about a 6'2'' 250 kid with 4.5 or so speed that will be a senior. The talk is that he plays anywhere on the field, including QB!.A giant of a kid has allso transfered to DB for next years line.Does anyone know who these kids are,and if it is true????

  6. Some changes need to be made in Kingsport just like in Knoxville. Kpt- a new offensive coach. DB had 2 different seasons in one because a coach would not make adjustments early on. Problems were showing up in August but no changes until they were 1-3. It has always been DB's style to allow 2 and 3 chances to the trouble makers. Good kids, they ride and ride hard with no 2nd chances! GC learned that under Wilson. The list is long and not worth mentioning names. DB had 2 kicked off this year for stilling and fighting...they will back this spring. DB does have some big guys returning, but just like this year, big and weak. Not all, but to be a good team, you cant have a couple of weak players in the line up. A good team will exploit it. GC said himself they need to hit the weight room, hard to do it with 140 players. Get rid of the jokers and let the real players work. Still think they need to have some players run track to work on speed. Look to see DB picked to win conference.

I wouldn't let a kid that stills or starts a lot of fights tarnish my football team. The name of the game is to win,but I would take the best {athletes + Best young men } to represent my school.Dobyns bennett's weight room is very nice but their weight training is horrible.140 kids can't jump around from one station to another for a few minutes and become 140 supermen. That's why we need to cut the team down and let some kids play tennis or run cross country, golf or whatever. You can't have 150lb kids falling off tackles like eight year old girls.I know we have some good athletes, but we get about one {Happy meal's worth } for every thousand dollars that weight room cost.I don't know who would be the offensive coach if GC wanted to give that to an asst.

  7. I am proud of this team and program, that is why I spend my time on here with my assessments. But as long as there is the mentality of "look at a much more talented team like Riverdale who didn't go far" as our reasoning for not getting it done then it will always be just that. We should be looking at teams such as Bearden and saying that team was even with DB early and have put it together to ride (in dominating fashion) into the semis and are favored over Smyrna and that is what DB should be doing. Like I said, I find it interesting that sandwiched between 7 conference titles were Sevier County (99 5A champs) and Bearden (07 semis at worst). Those are programs DB has basically dominated over the years. Riverdale may not have "went very far" this year but they have 4 playoff state titles that speak for themselves. I am trying to honestly assess the situation.

I'm not content by any means. We were to weak and lacked depth when the rubber met the road.I never liked the no huddle and got sick of counting the times a kid went the wrong way or penalties that it caused.Thank goodness we got under center more after a few hard games .Right now,it's time to look back and take the good with us while getting stronger and ready for next year.I wouldn't waste the next six months with those kids that are not going to give 100% to Dobyns Bennett football either. If they are trouble makers or just there for a football number ,say thanks but no thanks.

  8. Correct me if I'm wrong but the last 2 times DB has not won the conference title (1999 and 2007) the team that did has went very deep in the playoffs. In 1999, a 7-3 Sevier County team went on to win the 5A title and this year Bearden has made it to the final 4 (so far) with a team that is rolling on and has a great shot at playing for it all (and a team that took it to the Region 2 foes that DB struggled with...so much for the tough schedule paying off). And this Bearden program was 1-9 just 3 years ago. And after the 8-7 loss earlier in the year, I did not think there was much of a difference in talent between the two...but Bearden has stepped it up and is playing lights out while DB is watching from the outside. Not sure how that applies to this thread but it sure is something that made me think.

Bearden did play Farragut during the season and made the adjustments to win the playoff meeting,as we did against Oak Ridge.I thought we could have played a lot better against OR then we did,but a win is a win.We just did not match up with Farragut well. One play against Bearden could have made a big difference, and then again we might not have matched up against the four seed well.We just have to be proud of this team from where they were and look at more talented teams that have not went very far,say Riverdale for example.

  9. Does anybody know when Dobyns Bennett will have their spring practice this year? The cold of January may have seperated a few from the team last year, that's about it.You have a couple of sports going on nomatter when you hold spring drills,so I don't understand why we didn't wait until it warmed up a little.I'm sure there was a reason that makes sense.I think the number of players was around 140,give or take at that time.It was much closer to half that by the very end.

Why not do like every other sport and have a cut,if that was some of the purpose.Your going to have parents that get mad when little Johnie is not playing, one way or the other. If you make a cut to 85 during spring practice, your going to still have plenty of players to build depth and get more reps at all points going into the season, including weight training. The outcome would be a stronger team with your best players.

  10. Congrats to Region 1 5A!!! They split the 1st round (both 1 and 2 seeds advancing) and then both #1s advanced and now there is one team left. The team that is left has outscored their opponent 94-14 in three games and has yet to give up over 100 rushing. Congrats Bulldogs! 2 more games to make your dream season a reality

Bearden done the best job of getting better for the playoffs.I thought farragut would be a hard matchup for DB because of our size on deffense and lack of depth. One little play during a season can make a world of difference during the playoffs. DB matched up better against Bearden then they did with the teams in region two.The point is,Bearden got it done and has made the most of every chance this year. Just like the vols in 1998,you have to take atvantage of every little thing to become a champion.Good luck to the team that got it done

  11. I'm going with a split, two games for each region next friday. That is a far cry from those that say region 2 will take all four games.I'm one of a several people that heard a region 2 game on the radio a few weeks back, a sweep was predicted by the region two team radio broardcaster. He said he would be ''Shocked'' if it didn't happen. I don't think TVA will have anything on him after next friday night.

Well, hats off to Bearden and region 1. The last crow was just put on the train headed to region 2.Now, bring back some hardware to all of East Tennessee !!!!!!!

  12. Hey......The Village Idiot from Bristol is still trolling the DB threads. He's like a fan without a team. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I guess we will have to consider it like Jethro showing up for the family Thanksgiving dinner today. That is,feed him all we can /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> and hope he's not smart enough to find his way back. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  13. I too would hate it if Watson retired. His defense did a great job Friday. The offense was the problem - as usual. Improved, but no cigar. Need a new offensive coordinator. The head coach, needs to - head coach . Just my opinion .

I like Watson's energy and demeanor as the defensive coordinator.I don't know who would be an offensive coordinator on the staff if GC took a step back.Would coach be able to do that after so many years?Every coach has to question their own ability when things are not going smooth,I think Watson was even doing that the other night. It's important that our coaches keep their confidence up during the off season and get the team ready for the '08 season. We have a lot of good athletes coming back as well as some coming up. I look forward to seeing Jamie Crawford turn that big arm loose and run some option next year.Chris will know the offense much better next year.We will have some good skill people and big linemen.I hope we have learn something from not building depth this year.We have to be able to bring lots of players into the game and be fresh all over the field

  14. I'd just like to clear a few things up that bother me when i read these posts by people who obviously need to pay more attention to this team if their going to get on here and argue with people thinking that theyre right when neither of them are

#1-Jordan Lawson is not a Linebacker he is a defensive end on that side of the ball, but next year probably will exclusively be a fullback blowing up holes for big 32

#2-Will Bateman as much as you may be sure about yourself is a much better end than he ever wouldve been a linebacker, theres this thing called coverage that linebackers have to do every once in a while, him and Fleming will be one of the best DE duos to ever go through DB

I'm just saying if your going to talk about who needs to play, please watch a practice and maybe all players wont make fun of you for acting like you know whats going on

I think Will could have blitzed from the outside on every down. Not much in the way of pass protection,if that's what you were reffering to . Without anybody blocking him on the outside blitz {WOW},look how good he done with blockers in front of him.I've seen him play linebacker and there is no question he would have made a ton of plays, plus made the other team pay a much heavier price on straight up defensive sets.

  15. Easy enough, here is what I'd do. Starting at center will be the kid that can snap the ball the best and block the best until the ref blows the whistle. We will find out who can do that during spring and fall practice. If the kid doesn't get it done during the first game or at any time, make a change and compete for that position the next week while building depth during the year.Starting at guard, tackle, end and so on,each position should be earned and depth built all year long.Don't just put 15 kids out there that may be your best athletes or not and run them into the ground.Ok,that was to easy and I have an example. One of the best Linebackers we had on the team never played A down at linebacker. Can anyone name him? I'll give the answer later on today if nobody knows the 100 plus players that well.

OK it's been a good five hours and the player that was moved to the offensive line and was not even on a depth chart at linebacker or defensive end to start this year off is your answer. After asking to play anywhere on the defense he became one of the most valuable players on our defense this year and could have been making plays at one of our weakest points on the field. You might not have seen a lot of big write ups or heard his name on the radio with great excitment, but "Will Bateman" is your answer. Will Bateman is a warior and a great kid from a great family.

  16. Name your dream starting line up for next year (using only those kids who are actually on the team - no fantasy players). We'll see how well you do.

  17. Great job this year seniors! All year you showed class and the Indian tradition. Your heart and drive made this year succesful, hope to hear about some of you on Saturday's. Good luck in your future endeavors.

For next year, this goes against what everybody assumes, but from an adult insider who appears to be in the loop with the coaches and the Quarterback Club...Jordan Roop appears to be the quarterback for next year. I do not have much knowledge about players from the junior varsity, I know of a few players from the freshman team that might be included next year, but from last night's starting lineup, these are the positions to be filled:

    Offense

    QB

    RB #32 Chris Sensabaugh (Fr.)

    FB

    TE #9 James Templeton (Jr.)

    WR #10 Jamie Crawford (Jr.)

    WR

    RT

    RG

    C #67 Ryan Church (Jr.)

    LG

    LT

Included: #2 Justin Sylvester (Jr.), position for next year unknown, #45 Jordan Lawson (Jr.), will most likely be at fullback

    Defense

    DE #66 Zack Fleming (Jr.)

    N

    DE #65 Will Bateman (Jr.)

    LB

    LB

    LB #47 Jason Michael (So.)

    OLB

    OLB

    CB #2 Justin Sylvester (Jr.)

    FS

    CB

    Punter #28 Joe Doran (Jr.)

    Kicker #16 Craig Mitcham (Jr.)

Included: #45 Jordan Lawson (Jr.), #9 James Templeton (Jr.), and #8 Brad Hoover (Jr.) will most likely accompany Jason Michael in the linebacker spots.

    Any help is appreciated.

I wouldn't put any names in any position . We had some kids that were just to little and weak playing in spots and to slow in others.Forget the fact that some kids were penciled in before the last spring practice.Make them all earn each position this year.We got hamered by a more physical team last week.We kept playing hind and seek until somebody said,we will run straight over the little LB's after we get past the offensive tackles that are worn out.I preached getting some depth on the entire team.We had nearly 100 kids at the end of the year, tell me why we couldn't have rested some more of them on special teams.Number 30{Will Wagner,a senior} was the most upsetting to me. He was a kid with great speed and made plays every time he was in the game on offense or defense. Why couldn't he have rested some people and played every down on the special teams.I think when the coaches line the kids up in the spring time and a few of the ''penciled in kids'' get planted into the ground unless they are running around the back door,it should give a good ideal that we better learn some more names and build some more depth at every position on the field.

  18. Ya think /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I think there might be a little drinking going on at plowboy2's house tonight.

Waco, looking back on some earier post, someone said that we didn't even need a QB.Maybe next year the coaches will do as ''he'' wanted this year and just snap the ball to Chris. When you think about it,that will take the hardship out of having to make a pitch or keep it.Somebody may have solved the QB debate for the 2008 season.Wow,just put two tight ends in and some blocking backs .He may have solved the worry of having someone out wide to catch a pass as well.He said it,who needs a QB anyway, just snap it to Chris. It really doesn't sound like a bad ideal plowboy has.

  19. Thanks to the seniors for a great year and good luck to all of you guys. Many people didn't think DB would even get to the playoffs or even have more wins than defeats. You guys have a ton of heart and gave the fans a super year!!! I hope the underclassmen have been taught something by you guys. Now,thoughts about next year?

  20. I did not say you were classless and also my orignal post was aimed toward you either, maybe toward a couple of your fellow posters though(kloie03 and fhsfootball51), so if you took it personally I will apologize to you and you only! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

And yes if there is DB fans on here going on about how DB will destroy Farragut then by all means you have the right to tell them to eat all the crow they deserve. I myself see a close hard fought game, maybe with a few breaks the Tribe can pull off the upset, I hope!

I have enjoyed reading the inside info you provide. So good luck to your team and to my Indians, hoping for an injury free game! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    ROLL TRIBE ROLL!

I guess it's easy to see why the Oak Ridge kids wished DB all the luck and told them to kick these guys butts. It's allso easy to see why Farragut is so excited about their chances of going all the way.I don't have a clue about Farragut's pass championships and history, but this must be the best team they have ever had.Looking at the remaining four teams from our regions, this may very well be the most disliked bunch of them all. That's what happens when you have success.Dobyns Bennett is the most loved and hated school in upper east TN.This team from DB has had to earn everything they have got.Without the high ranking of teams past, the 2007 team has rolled into the second round and whatever happens tonight, they have ''Shut'' the people who were comparing them to last years team and those before them"UP".

  21. My apologies to those who started the other thread, however it is very evident that it has gone beyond ridiculous. Let's try to keep the talk til tomorrow night on this thread to game talk only.

I guess this thread was asimulated back into the original thread.Looks to be a pretty cold friday night,I call it football weather. Maybe the january spring practice will pay some dividends for Dobyns Bennett.
