Its a strange thing.I've been around the players and fans from both sides and there is a bitter hatred from the Cloudland side of things. Its sorta funny, the players or fans don't hate the Hampton kids, its just Hampton. The Hampton people for the most part likes Cloudland and wants to see them do well.Don't get me wrong, they want to beat Cloudland in a bad way,but they respect Cloudland. If Cloudland could get rid of the hatred and envy, they might do better, but I'm afraid its toooooo deeply ingrained to ever overcome.
Not fair to clump. I have always been close to both. Some of my best friends are from H town. Some also could say the same thing you are about some Hampton fans, but thats all in who is looking at the painting and what they think. I don't think its a major thing either way, but I have been wrong before

I understand getting ready for the post season, but is it really good practice for seniors and juniors to play and humiliate a bunch of freshmen and a handful of sophomores? Sorry, there's just no excuse in my opinion for what Cloudland did...is it really that important to humiliate others??? And if that's the way it goes this time of year, I haven't seen that before in high school basketball. Usually when one team pulls their starters, the other one does also.
The JV did the bulk of the scoring. If you call a stretched two three zone a press (which they went into with six minutes to go in 3rd) a press then.......... I don't know what to tell you. You need to check the boxscores because it was cloudland's sophmores and freshmen that did the scoring. I Cloudland was up big the night before and NG cut the score to within three I think.

Well, son....they might not have won state championships during those years but they did go to the state tourney at least twice during the eighties which meant they were more than above avg. I was told by one Unaka friend of mine that Unaka never lost to Cloudland in Varsity or JV during the eighties or most of the nineties? Told me that when Cloudland finally beat Unaka's JV that Unaka felt like they had lost the national championship even though Unaka had 2 freshmen playing on the Varsity only. Going to the state in the eighties was much harder than it is now. You saying that they "rarely" had any great teams shows how dumb you really are. As far as the 10 years you are talking about, Hampton never beat Unaka's eyes out during those years and they actually did get in on some of those 10 years when they moved down to single A and were part of the conference. Cloudland was definately down then but N. Greene and U. High were not. Espcially not UH.
I respect Hampton and Unaka a ton. Have lots of friends at both. Don't let an argument with the King get blown up. I played in that era and before I played there was The crew at Cloudland that had Bret R. and several others in the 80's (Very talented bunch). We weren't loaded or (great) or anything and I'm not sure about exact records, but that statement seems inacurate. I lost to Unaka a couple of times but I also remember putting it on them. Have tapes to prove that. Never beat Hampton though. They were loaded with Vines, Kates, Smith, Calhoun, and others. And yes I went to support them at the State Tourny. I also wouldn't say that Unaka was anybodys whipping post either. Just my opinion though mixed with what I know. Doesn't mean a hill of beans, cause today is what it is all about. The Dogs rolled our buts. oops ... butts lol

I didn't get to see your guys play but we are pretty darn good. Especially defensivly. They held a pretty good T.A.Dugger team to 4 or 6 points in the 1st half last night.pressure, pressure, pressure on the ball all the time. Got good depth too. All 5 starters and the 1st 3 or 4 off the bench can score the ball pretty well.
This is for uknoit. Not good at posting, so had wrong quote. Sorry off topic. just wanted to answer question.
Can't really tell. That is the only time I have seen the Jr. High play this year. Hampton looked like they had the horses and they really played hard. My opinion the playing hard is the difference in most teams in Jr. High. They should have a good season. Good Luck!

Didnt get to see my 2nd boy play last night. How did Hampton's Elem bunch look? Pujo did mine cut the mustard?
Not sure which is your boy, but I thought that Hampton looked pretty good. They have a good staff and players. They really play hard.

What was the score?
29 to 12. Very physical game. Anybody playing these two had better buckle up. Props to both squads.

I agree that there are some, but I think most will pull for Hampton. Some of my best friends came from that heated rivalry. I hope them well and root for them except when they play us. I do believe that this one will be tough. Excited to get to see it.
And if he messes with my wife..... well.......... LOL

You don't know Cloudland like I do. If Hampton was playing for the state title against a team they knew nothing about, many of them would be pulling for the other team. Its called envy. Its sort of funny, alot of Hampton people like Cloudland and wants them to do well. I have ties to both,so I have no problem wanting to see both do well. As far as that goes,I'd support any of our local teams.

Thats the reason Mikes a better coach than I would ever be, I'd expect my kids to give 100 percent ,but not other peoples kids. I love mine more.
You've earned the award, you see things better than most. I still don't want my kids playing in school or the ball field. They may not make the best gardes in the class and they might get dominated on the field, thats acceptable if they prepare like they should and give it their best.
Here is my two cents for what it is worth. Mike has been coaching for a long time. He knows that winning football games will keep the kids out. Sure people rumor and talk, but the fact remains he is one of the best motivation coaches in the business (Along with x's and o's). That is why he wins. He knows what buttons to push and not to push with most kids. The problem comes in when outsiders (people not in uniform, myself included) do not understand why things are done a certain way. They are offended by comments or actions of the coaching staff. If you don't like it, then ask him about it. I'm sure he could give you the reason for each situational comment. I say those comments are pure motivation. If you don't step up, you lose is the message. When you win those comments fade away. I could be wrong, but I know him pretty well. Not a comment to upset anybody. Just another viewpoint.

Hey Pujo! GP will definately be a test. Volunteer not so much, I think you guys will be a lot better than them. Still a good scrimmage though. Good Luck. See you around.

Oldschool...you have a LOT to learn...there are MANY people smarter than I...surprised that the job hunt has been as quiet as it has...for other schools too...If I am correct there are 5 or 6 girls jobs open and no one has been hired yet...definitely an interesting time in East Tenn. basketball...usually dont have many coaching changes but this year is the exception...I'm sure some of mine wish that I would go off into the sunset...
LOL Definately have a lot to learn, but not many smarter in bball than you , but thats another thread. I haven't heard any facts, just rumor like you have.

Any news since Coach Dugger opted to stay with the girls...a move that I applaud by the way...I have heard numerous rumors but would rather hear from someone smarter than I...
There is no such one!

Cloudland has never had more than 32 or 33 this year spring included. Had a couple sick friday is why we dressed 29.

Hey Pujo, I was just reading the soaps here and wanted to congragulate your boy on a great game. I heard after I left to take some boys home that Little man lit somebody up.
Thanks, I was really proud of the whole team. Great bunch of kids who come to work every day.Really proud of you for taking time to care for these kids. Not many are willing to go the extra mile.
The future they are. I enjoy the heck out of them. Can't wait till they get older. It will be fun to watch them. Hope they stay together, but you never know.

Pujo, before everyone jumps the gun, this antagonist is not me. I am done talking trash. I just wanted to set the record straight.
Whoever it is either has alot of faith or just likes to talk trash. You can't play but one game at a time.
They started a Cosby thread. Not sure, but they don't seem to be a highlander.

No predictions due to lack of knowledge of the other team. They must be good to be there. Good luck to the Hampton Bulldogs.
