  1. Oh I know you're yelling at the refs on ALL CALLS that go against CC, I see that, I was just pointing that little thing out because it was relative to my argument. Yeah refs just totally have something against Celina. Maybe they do, but so does every team's fans in this district, we all think that refs are against them. Listen, I get on here and I give my opinions on all players, PC, CC, anyone in the upper cumberland basically, and I don't do this to bash them, I do it to voice my opinion. As I've told many of the boys from PC, if you don't like what I'm writing, do something to make me think better. Like I told PC people, if you want me to stop telling you to start getting to the paint, then get Heath Elder in their at center and start driving to the basket. I agree we should get back to the next game coming up, but it wasn't me who brought this post back to life. Anyway, I'm done talking about Clay Co until PC is ready to play them again.
  2. I buried the hatchet with battlecatt a few posts ago, then she is the one who "went there" with the race card. I don't doubt his abilities at the high school level, I think he is really good at the high school level.
  3. Don't think for one min that I was picking on him for the color of his skin. I can pick on the Edwards boy or the Dale kid as well, but their game is a little more rounded, they can make the outside shot. But neither of them will play at the next level either. Let me just make this clear, PC doesn't have anyone on their team for the next few years that will play at the next level either. I've sat at games and seen the way you act battlecatt, every time your son is fouled or has a call go against him, you shout at the refs and act like the call was only made because of the color of his skin. You can say whatever you like about it, but I've set there and seen it at games. He is a fine high school player, who can get to the rim, but it doesn't translate to the next level. And just for the record, I'm not a racist, I can proudly say I voted for Obama in this past election.
  4. well last night they started 1 senior, 2 juniors, and 2 sophomores. Elder is gonna be a beast I think. He's tough as nails, and isn't afraid to get hit or give a few.
  5. Lyndsey Wright quit during the offseason. I'm not exactly sure why, I heard it was cause she just wasn't enjoying it anymore. Maybe so, I don't know so I won't comment on it. She was a Senior this year anyway so she wasn't that young last year. I think PC is gonna play better from here on out. They are going up to KY to play in a christmas tournament and I'm sure Coach Smith is gonna work on some things during that tournament were no one will see them. I think PC is better than Moneterey and RBS now that Garner is back, and considering the other night was her first game of the year, I'm sure she will propel this team past Clay Co. in their next game, and this team definitely has a shot at playing with JC and C'range if they put their minds to it. Their is still time for this for this team to turn the season around. District tournament is really all the matters anyway.
  6. A really ugly win for the Bobcats tonight, but a win, is a win, is a win. A couple of starters looked good tonight. Heath Elder dominates that post when he is in their and when he gets the ball in their. PC has to find a way to get this kid the ball more often, because he plays at a much bigger size than he is. He brings a toughness to this team, when another team brings the ball to the paint, he makes sure you feel it. Joe Dowdy played in his normal form, he was off just a little, but still pretty good. And he told my brother I better say about him on here, so here ya go Sam, heck of a game buddy. Keep driving in the paint. Keep making those lay ups when ya do, and kick it to someone else when its not there. Tough defense, keep bringing that passion man. It feels good to get a win once again, even if it was extremely ugly. Good luck to you guys up in Ky at the Christmas tournament, too bad I can't make it up there. Play tough, physical basketball, because that's how its played in KY.
  7. Several veterans? Jacob Brown and John Sells are a lot of verterans? 2 guys= a lot of verterans? I don't think so. This team would be better if they had more playing time. But PC hasn't just ran over teams by 30 points a whole lot over the last couple of years. Maybe 5 to 10 times in a two year stretch, and the second teams got to play in those games, I was at most of them. PC was winning games by 10 to 15 pts a game, and with that, you have to keep some, if not all, of your starters in til 1:30 or so. PC players weren't in padding their stats, they weren't beating too many teams by 30, so their for, most of the games where still within reach for their opponents. PC the last three years before this one, had one of the harder schedules in the single A, so their wasn't a ton of "easy" games on the schedule that you win by 30 pts. Lets look at PC's usual schedule over the last couple of years. You have your district games, which usually aren't easy and hard fought, and their is no Hermitage Springs anymore for an easy game in district. Then you look outside the regular district games, they've played Chattanooga teams consistently over the previous three years( CSAS, Grace Baptist, Temple) all tough, close games. Then PC plays four teams consistently over the last three years because of being geographical rivals (LA, York, Clinton Co, KY; and Van Buren Co.). All of those teams have been extremely good over the previous three years, and if we won the games, then it was usually by ten points or less. Their is 19 to 20 games a year, that not many of these players would have seen time in, and that doesn't include the really good teams they faced over the previous two Christmas's in tournaments. So teams have like 25 or 30 games a season I'm guessing, and 20 or so are so tough that the deep reserves don't play.
  8. I have heard that Van Buren lost a lot, anyone know? If so maybe this is a good game, since PC lost a lot as well. Also, PC's Jacob Brown did quit, so tonight's starting five is now John Sells, Joe Dowdy, Sam Cummings, Caleb Cummings, and Heath Elder. I like how Coach Bibb is giving his young guys a chance to start, that'll pay off next year, but will really pay off in two years.
  9. I think PC has the talent to be the #2 team in this district. But like a famous line from Bull Durham goes, "they got a world full of talent, but head's full of crap." These girls just aren't playing up to their abilities. I know its not the coaching, they have one of the better coaches in 7a. Its like they either think they should just be handed the district and don't have to go out and get it. Against the teams that where picked ahead of us in the Preseason (C'range and JC) we have started out good and played pretty well, but the teams we have played that ranked lower than them in the preseason (RBS, CC, and Monterey) they have came out flat, not putting it to these teams early on in the games and letting them hang around. This team is definately disappointing. We need to either be the #2 seed or the #4 seed going into region.
  10. I won't say I was attacking him. I call it tough love and I'm like that with many of these players and a the ones I know personally, know that I do it for the right reasons and some of them like me being honest with them. If I was too harsh that wasn't my intention. I know many of these boys personally, I go to church with three or four of these boys, when they do good, I tell them. When they stink it up I let them know about it. I'm straight forward to a T, I don't beat around the bush. Wouldn't you rather have someone be straight forward with you instead of feeling your head with bull? I think attacking a freshman is harsh, because they are very young, learning the waters of high school basketball and life, but a senior is fixing to be out of high school, fixing to hit the real world, where no one gives you anything. Basketball is kinda the same as the real world. No one gives you anything, especially just because you have Pickett Co on your chest. Now for a bit of news, I heard from a couple of sources, that Jacob Brown walked into practice today and told them he was quitting. I heard he had til tomorrow to decide but won't be playing in tomorrow nights game either way. I hate that for him, I wish he wouldn't have been scared out their on the court, because physically he had the abilities. This may be a rumor, but I'm pretty sure the source was reliable. Anyway, good luck tomorrow night guys.
  11. No hard feelings, I'm not trying to offend anyone or say anything inappropriate either, but it seems like a lot of times people take my words that way. So apologies from me as well. I am critical at times, of my players and other players as well. When you get a bunch of passionate fans on this website, that happens. Battlecatt should know that she is probably messing with the #1 PC fan as well. I've missed probably 10 games since I turned 16. I defend my guys at all cost, but I will be critical of them too.
  12. Lets start with this. Has the well run dry in PC? yep. They have some bright spots. This team has played a combined eleven games together, I don't expect them to be able to beat anyone. I'm looking to next year. As far as Clay Co goes, I don't see anything in their reserves that makes me think they are gonna be dominant in 7a for years to come. I can say that about a team like JC though, because they have some nice younger players. Now lets get to the 2nd thing. Can Garrett hit an occasional jump shot? sure, but anyone can hit a jumper or a three occasionally. The worst players PC has ever had could hit the occasional jumper. Now what he can do (make lay ups), he does very very well. Now how does that translate to the next level? not too good, I mean thats not too important, but if he has any plans to play beyond this year, he's in for a shocker. Because 6'3 post players are none existent at the college level. What I'm trying to say is his game needs to be more rounded. Now for the final things. 1st concerning "you take what they give you" quote, yes PC gave them that all night long, and they were right to take that. But if you think down the round against better teams, such as Manasass and Temple among others, they won't have the luxury of relying on the lay up. That's what I was talking about. And as for all the guys you say that can make an outside shot. Sure these guys can make "outside" shots, but none of them are what I call "shooters", they don't have someone like Joe Amonette, Nathan Aaron, Joe Bailey, or Jacob Wright, who can knock down the big shot, time in and time out, and make those shots consistently. Anyway, thats my 2 cents worth, oh and by the way, their where more PC fans than CC fans their the other night. Pc fans can one side 75% full, the end bleachers full, and then their is always a large section of people who like to set on the visitor side next to the doors, so you may think you had more fans than you actually did.
  13. I'm discussed with our girls this season. They under achieve every year, so maybe now they will understand why I don't get to their games until half time. This team was supposed to challenge Jackson Co. for the #2 spot in the district, Instead, they had to take RBS to over time to win, lost at an awful Monterey, played hard but lost big to JC and Clarkrange, and then come out and simply stink against Clay Co. Way too many three point attempts in the 1st half, way too many turnovers for a team that doesn't create a lot of them. This team had/has a chance to be a substate or state tournament team, but they are underachieving something awful. Lindsey Owen couldn't stand up tonight, everytime she got a rebound or a pass, she fell to her knees, she just has no strength what so ever. Garrett couldn't hit the broad side of the barn until the second half, and Gibson was in foul trouble. Good thing Garner was back because if she wasn't this one would have been even worse. These girls better wake up or they are gonna be hurting for wins going into district tournament play. Wake up girls! and congrats to Clay Co. for winning this one, ya did what ya had to.
  14. Was it as bad as the score indicates? It was worse. Am I ashamed to be a bobcat? Yeah. Is Clay Co. good? yeah. Is this team gonna win state? Not even close. Listen folks, all I've heard is how good Clay Co. is, how many players they have coming off the bench, how they will not only be good this year but next. Like a friend of mine said, Shawn Garrett can't hit a jump shot, or basically anything outside of 3 ft. And he is right, but PC didn't make him have to score any other way that on lay ups. Attention, Shawn Garrett is not the BEST player in 7a, Upchurch can Shoot circles around this kid. Garrett should not be the MVP after the season. The well hasn't run dry, this team and this year has been a rebuilding year all along, PC has some bright spots, with its juniors and its sophomores, but like many inexperienced players, they need time to mature, and thats what is happening now. This team isn't that good, because even against this awful PC squad, you all could only manage 49 points against them, and Garrett and Edwards and many other starters and regulars where still playing in the third quarter. Listen, Clay is the best team in probably the worst this district and region has been in a long time. Some team from chattanooga could easily come beat this team in substate. This team is no better than it was last year. No shooters really what-so-ever, this team relies on lay ups too much, if they make it to state and have to face Buckner and Manasass, that shot won't be there. And as for being ok for years to come? I sure didn't see it, I saw some good seniors, but not much else. So like I said in a previous post, Enjoy it now Clay Co, cause it's a long fall from the top.
  15. I think Pickett Co. makes this a more competitive game than many will think. I think PC could stick around for 3 quarters, and only losing this one by 10 pts or so. Listen, PC knows what everyone is saying about them. They may not be able to physically win this game, but these boys are gonna come out and fight, they aren't just gonna hand a 20 point win to Clay Co. PC is the toughest place to play in the district, even tougher than Jackson Co. I still say Clay Co. wins by 10 or 12 points, but I wanna see how our young guys play in this one.
  16. Well by 2 or by 5 points, there is one think we have to remember, they've been playing every game up to this point without Garner. She is extremely important to this team, her and Gibson are 1 and 1a to this team's success. You will see a big difference in this Lady Bobcat team in the next couple of months. Here's some reasoning for that: 1) Size. Garner gives Gibson another taller person @ the guard position, which to this point has been a problem. It gives them another taller guard to make those post entry passes and can see the floor better than the smaller guards we currently have. 2) Scoring. Up to this point, Kayla Gibson has had the scoring weight completely on her shoulders. By the fourth quarter you can see she is very tired. Garner has the ability to score 20-30 points a game, which will take a lot of pressure off of Kayla. 3) Defense. This defense has been a bright spot for the most part, but anytime you can get more size on defense you take it. Garner can defend the forwards or guards. I think this game can be 10 points or more if thats how PC wants to make it.
  17. Who wins this one? I haven't seen Clay Co. play this season? Are they similar to they were last year? I think this game is ultimately gonna come down to which PC team shows up. If the PC team that played against Clarkrange shows up, then this should be 10 or 15 points, if its the team that played Monterey, then it could be a 20 point swing the other way. I'm excited to watch this one. Also, Tarah Garner is gonna be back in her first game since breaking her wrist, this should give the Lady Cats a big boost, both offensively and defensively.
  18. Yeah I wish Bibb would kinda turn this team over to the sophomores and Juniors....Dowdy, Cummings, Elder and Aaron are gonna be the back bone of this team for the next two seasons. This season is basically a wash so lets get those guys some experience. As far as Sells, he is mostly a defensive player, he's not the same shooter he was in jr high. Bibb didn't even play Elder in the 4th quarter and I never understood that. When we got away from Dowdy and Elder last night is when we started slumping. Aaron is wide open a lot of the time, but his problem is that he's still young and hasn't learned to pull that trigger like he will eventually. As far as jr high team, Hughes will be good as like a junior, but thats four years away. He still needs to grow about 2 more inches to be dominant at the position he will be playing, but I do like his upside. My concern is that, will he have any help around him. I don't know what kinda players Peyton Garrett and Tanner Rich are gonna be, Its kinda hard to tell on all these guys because they are still only 7th graders. PC will continue to be good at home and bad on the road, like most young teams are.
  19. Could be 5, Could be 25, it depends on which PC team shows up. Right now, I'll say 15. Because Clay beat Clarkrange by 9 and Clarkrange beat PC by 8. So 15 to 18 points sounds about right. Clay Co. would be smart to remember how tough a place PC is to play, because Clarkrange almost learned that lesson the other night, everyone said 20 plus, and it turned into an 8 point ball game. All I can say from Clay Co. is enjoy it while it lasts, because its a long fall from the top, ask us PC fans this year.
  20. agreed, I would like to know how many teams around here have actually played in the TMSAA state tournament. I know that the year we won the 2A TNT, Allons won the 1A and Livingston Middle School won the 3A one. I mean like Play 4 Fun said, the James C. Haile and TNT are as real as anyone in the upper cumberland is ever gonna play in.
  21. Heath played really well, glad to see he got the start, but they got away from feeding him the ball after the first quarter. Dowdy played well as well. Aaron too, and Sam Cummings basically carried them for the third quarter. I think Bibb sticks with Jacob Brown for too long at times, if he doesn't start hot, then he isn't gonna get hot, there for he is use less, because his defense is suspect. PC played good defense tonight, but one aspect they must improve is getting back door laps on them. I'm not exactly sure what Bibb said either, I didn't see him do anything really. I think that short ref had little man syndrome. The turning point in this game, was when Clarkrange started the 2-3 zone, because PC doesn't know how to attack the 2-3. We don't drive to the basket, we just get complacent and start shooting threes. I think if PC plays like they did in the 1st quarter, it'll be a good game friday night.
  22. well overton co. schools play in the same tournaments, and they call them state titles, listen I'm not arguing with ya. I know their is a middle school state tournaments.
  23. Ok....I am going to calmly tell you to grow up big guy and stop criticizing people just because they have different opinions than yours. You have told both bobcat89 and myself that we don??™t know anything about Pickett County Basketball because we disagree with you??¦.that??™s childish! Second, flex was not a offensive set it was THE offensive set for half court. If we couldn??™t push the ball to run and gun then it was flex. There are so many different variations of flex that was all we needed. As far as you winning three ???junior high state championships?????¦.lol??¦.there is no such of a thing. The James C. Hail state tournament was by invitation only and was not a true state tournament. There are several junior high state tournaments all over the state so I wouldn??™t be telling people I won a junior high tournament unless you want people to think you are ignorant. I played basketball in Pickett County from third grade until I graduated and Steve Asberry never coached me??¦..that??™s all I??™m saying. I hope you are not trying to imply that Matt Walker should take over at the junior high level! Ok.....I'm gonna calmly tell you that you know very little about PC basketball, because you didn't know that Steve Asberry ever coached jr. high boys and bobcat89 thought that Chip Buck was the head coach at some point then you all don't know much about it. You would have to be an idiot to argue with me about if Steve coached or not since I played for him. Or I guess I should say you know nothing of the history of PC basketball. I won't argue with you that flex was the only offensive set we needed in elementary school or in AAU, I totally agree that it was a good first have court set for us to learn, but at the Jr. high and high school level you need just a few more plays. You wanna say we never won three junior high state titles? Go look in the trophy case at the Jr. High. 2 James C. Haile titles and a TNT State Tournament title, 1 James C. Haile in 7th grade and the other two in 8th grade. I won't argue with you that there isn't more state championships than that, because I know there is. As far as the James C. Haile being invatation only, don't you think that means that we had to be good enough to get into that tournament? Listen, my jr. high classmates and I lost 3 games in the two years we played, and all three of those were in 7th grade, we didn't lose a game our 8th grade year. You must be from LA cause they are the only ones who would say that the James C. Haile isn't a true state tournament, listen they are all Invitational tournaments. Steve may have never been your coach, I'm not saying he had always coached Jr. High, because for a while he only coached the girls team, but from about the time that his oldest son Andy got to Jr. high he coached it. No, I'm definately not trying to imply that Matt Walker should take over jr high, Matt Walker shouldn't be allowed near a basketball court. But I have heard that Bibb would like to take over the jr high boys, but doesn't want to step on any toes, so he's gonna wait until Coach Parris is ready to step down. All I'm trying say is that the game has sort of passed Coach Parris by, and maybe it is time for the torch to be passed, at the jr. high level. I think Coach Parris is great for the elementary level.
