  1. oh yea that whole thing where he got outcoached by grace's and silverdale's coach in the district tourney was outstanding, and he was real good at yelling "WE NEED TO HIT GUYS"-but let's save baseball for baseball season

Yes, I think Coach Kirk's discipline and conditioning will ultimately serve DBCS's players better and put them in better position to win against good teams and allow them to continue their streak of wins against lesser quality teams

if this is who i think it is you didn't even play basketball. and furthermore do you think coach kidd didn't run those guys enough? they were out of shape? or unprepared? you have got to be kidding me. alot of talk from somebody that didn't even play.

  2. I think David Brainerd tops Silverdale, and the copper basin games have too much emotional significance for DBCS and their coach (seeing as he is from DBCS) has a tendency to blow up and lose it when things aren't going his way.

DB will be much improved with the new disciplinarian style of Coach Kirk

so you think coach kirk is better than coach kidd? Are you serious? here is a guy that took a team that won 3 games before he got there. they won 6 his first year, which i know is not saying a whole lot but comparing it to hat had been going on there before. Then he wins 11 or 12 games the next year? you guys should have been trying to keep him instead of trying to get "yes" men in there for the ol' doc. I'm not going to even mention what he did for baseball over there. So he was fiery and got some technicals every now and then, he was the ony one with emotion on the team and that is why DB will never get out of the bottom of that district. I wish them all the best because they have some good kids but if it comes down to coaching in a DB vs. CB game coach kidd would would make kirk look silly. No, disrespect to Mike cause he was at hixson for a while but being an assistant and being a head coach are 2 different things.

Also, no way DB beats Silverdale. SBA has too much size and talent for DB to stay with them.

  3. How are things looking in Region 3-A? We have been talking some on another thread about District 6-A but it always comes down to the Region Semi-Finals in this region between CSAS, Temple, Grace, and South Pittsburg. Will it be the same again this year? What do each of these teams have and what surprises are out there?

Tay, I think CSAS might be the only D6 team to make past the first round of the region tourney. Everybody else so weak in that district its almost unfair.

  4. Seriously?!! Is this even a question? It's obviously going to come down to Grace and Temple like the past five or six years. David Brainerd, Silverdale, Copper Basin?!! Not even remotely close to the Eagles and Crusaders. The matchups between these two this year should be as classic as ever. And they both will kill the other teams in the district. But since the question asked is "Who will win?", I'll say Temple. Again.

No Doubt it comes down to Temple and Grace in the end. I see Silverdale puttin a scare into one of those two at least once this year. I think Copper Basin will be the suprise team of the bottom three.

  5. I would probably agree with you on most of this, but time will tell. I heard that at tryouts yesterday CSAS had a couple of "surprises" with new guys trying out. They had a huge number at tryouts. What about other schools in 6-A and even 5-A. What were tryouts like? Has anyone heard anything?

what do you think about district 5? I think it goes something like this.

    1. Temple: everybody back and the Andrews kid is healthy. Depth could be a problem.

    2. Grace: I think probably better w/o Carter, but dont beat Temple.

    3. Silverdale: Got good size and good rotation of players

    4. Copper Basin: This is my surprise team this year. While they won't be close to the top three they have enough athletes and good coaching with David Brainerd coach moving over to beat the bottom two.

    5. David Brainerd: Max Archey is the most consistant player they have. Couple that they have a new coach, their 3rd in 4 years, and they lost alot of talent when some players transferd. I think all that spells trouble.

    6. 21st Century: one word, graduation. they literally have one player coming back, Jordan Stafford. While he is good he has no help.

  6. I think SP will surprise a lot of people this year.....

    1. SP

    2. CSAS

    3. Signal Mtn

    4. Sale Creek

    5. Whitwell

    6. Richard Hardy

    7. Lookout Valley

South Pitt too undisciplined to beat CSAS. I do agree that Signal Mtn will be third. Sale Creek has a new coach that knows only that a basketball is round so I think if Whitwell hired a decent coach hey could sneak up a spot. I don't know what RH has coming back but if they lost the Zinna kid and that Big Kid in the middle they will be bad. Ivan will need the paramedics there every night. Lookout Valley has got to be better than they were last year so I would move them ahead of RH

  7. I think Midten is getting ahead of themselves. We will be very young this year and as we all know with youth anything can happen and usually does. Some good some not so good. As for what Region 3A will be returning, well Temple will be one of the favorites to make it to the State Finals this year. They've got the Sexton kid coming back, he almost beat Union City by hisself last year in the opening round of the state tournament. They will be the odds on favorite to host the substate game down there and i'm sure you'll have the usual suspects as in Grace Baptist and CSAS to deal with if you host up here. Its extremely hard to go on the road and win a substate game but it can happen. Right now i think Clay Co. and either Gordonsville or FCS are the favorites to play in the finals of the region tourney but as we have all been witness too the past several years, sometimes the best team on "paper" doesn't win.

temple returns everybody. including a kid named brandon andrews who sat out all but like 3 games last year after injurying his shoulder. they will be the team to beat in region 3a. csas lost their whole team, they might have two guys coming back. grace will be the other team to watch out of region 3a they still have the shaughnessy kid as well as a kid named fuquan harper who became eligible at the end of the year. those two along with brandon herman will be very tough in single a.

  8. Why do you say that's not the case at DB? From what I've seen DB gets better every year in the main 3 sports and the future seems bright.

Well the same coach that coaches basketball also coaches baseball. I didnt say DB doesn't want to be succesful what I was trying to say is that if the head guy at DB would have stood behind his coach instead in front of him that coach would still be there. I mean why would that guy leave with all that he has coming back in basketball and in baseball

  9. Boys coach at David Brainerd takes job at Copper Basin. Most people might look at this as a step backwards but it really is more of a lateral move Because CB administration committed to trying to make their athletic program better which is not the case at DB

  10. Do not put David Brainerd up here with good teams.

Well I think it would be a safe bet to say that David Brainerd will be one of the better teams in the region next year and for years to come. While they have taken their lumps from Grace, Temple, and your Seahawks they have steadily become more and more competitive. David Brainerd is a team that you cannot take lightly because if you do they can sneak up on you. Last year they won 6 games, this year they went 15-12. Don't be surprised if David Brainerd is in the region tourney next year. So before you get on here and bad mouth DB you need to know where they are coming from.

  11. good teams dont miss lay ups nor 10 free throws in big games.

and david brainerd got a taste of CSAS in the jamboree.

that didnt go over well seeing that they won by like 35+ points in a jamboree.

True about the missed FT and layups. As far as the jamboree goes, we were not even supposed to play that night, CSAS was supposed to play Silverdale. So as far as that goes I think we did OK for 30 minutes notice.

  12. I'd like to know how CSAS (A self-proclaimed lock to make it to state) only beats South Pittsburg (A team that lost to David Brained) by 14 points? You CSAS people may not want to be too cocky going into region. There are 3 teams from the good district in the region that can beat you.

Congrats to Brian Ball for getting MVP. Maybe your critics will shut up now.

I hope that you are not implying that David Brainerd is a weak team. Granted we took some lumps from the big dogs in our district but we played your crusaders tough at your place and anyone that watched that game and knows anything about basketball knows that that game was alot closer than 60-44. DB missed 10 free throws and 3 or 4 layups. Not saying we should have won but I believe we are a better team than most people give us credit for. Also, We beat everybody in District 6 except for CSAS and Sale Creek because we did not play them. Not saying we would beat CSAS at all. Sale Creek beat our JV's by like 10 in our X-mas Tourney

  13. Anyone know anything about Webb of Bell Buckle? Any information would be appreciated.

They run a flex man to man offense. If you play zone they like to try work the ball to the elbow then to short corner. They also will try to move the ball on perimeter until low post gets a good seal on the block. Defensively, they half court trap the first half then full court press in the second. They have 3 main players #23 their PG very quick and handles the ball well, #12 plays PF very disciplined and very fundamental, he is a lefty. Then #24 is probably their best player, good shooter and very active on both ends of the floor. Hope this finds you in time to help

  14. The truth is that the gym will help a little, I think but you still have to have a change in the attitude of the players. From what I saw the other night on the court, this group is uncoachable. They don't listen to or have respect for what their coach is telling them. Another thing that is going to hurt is the gym size. there are what, 200 people in the school and not all of them come to the games. The size of the gym is going to swallow the fans. Not sure what it will hold, but probably in the neighborhood of 1500 to 2000. I think that will be a problem as well, but we will see. I can't wait to see it when it is finished though, should be nice for the school.

You got the uncoachable part right. They have alot of talent but alot more attitude. After the game tonight at David Bainerd one of their kids threw a punch at one of the DB kids. Don't know what happened to the kid after the police put him in handcuffs

  15. David Brainerd will win by 20+.

Well we appreciate the kind words. Richard Hardy lost everybody they had. The two 19 year olds, one of which I think was in jail the first time we played them last year. and the rest of their team was seniors too. They had nobody after that. I saw alittle of their scrimmage at DB against 21st Century and it was ugly. But you never know.... we thought we would beat St Andrews -Sewanee Friday but got absolutely hometowned to death. I guess its agood thing we play this one at home and not over there cause thats what happened to us over there last year.

  16. I have seen Temple play for years and I do not see them slowing down at all. Last year, about this time, we were having discussions about how much better CSAS and Grace were going to be than Temple. I remember quite well how right I was then, and now when I say that Temple will finish first in the region, CSAS second, and Grace will finish third. There is no other way to look at it.

Temple graduated three stud senior basketball players but are returning two starters from last year who were just sophomores. You guys may not have realized just how good Jeremy Sexton and Brandon Andrews really were and that is ok because you will get two more years (this one and the next one) to watch them do their thing. Along with them, you have a core group of players who played JV ball together the last two years who played JV as freshmen and on a separate ninth grade team and played together last year on the JV team. They only lost one game between the JV and the ninth grade team. Last year after pulling Jeremy and Brandon up to JV, they only lost about three games for the season.

Grace lacks leadership on the floor. The new tall kid from Berean impressed me more than Carter. He just seemed to work harder and have more heart. Carter looks lazy and he always looks like he is having a bad day. He does not seem to be having any fun.

I agree with someone said on a different thread about CSAS. They have some real talent on the court but they lack the coaching. Of course, that may be Temple's weak spot this year.

You have to remember Temple had two players transfer to Silverdale, although they are not eligible they are not playing at Temple. I don't see Temple doing that much this year. I think they will make the region tournament but their season ends there. I watched them play over the summer, maybe they had some players missing but they didn not look anywhere close to last year's team. Sexton and Andrews are good players no doubt about that, but They will need several unproven players to step up and I just don't see it this year.

  17. sounds like blackmail. he might have been lucky to be on the team but he was on it. these are kids. 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 years old. everyone plays with fire and gets burnt. burn him( suspend 4 a few game) and let it go. have faith in your players and they will have faith in you.

cobb may have accepted his role last year but he's a Sr with 3 less experianced Jrs starting infront of him. plus most colleges will overlook you if you dont start. why give a "super sub" a scholarship when you can get a super starter?

i should worry bout the riverside gym cause CSAS is my team. players have never been the problem there. the coaching staff has been. the grace, temple, mcminn central, and howard coaches have always out coached csas. with someone hard nosed and that can identify more with the kids CSAS should round the corner and wont loose athletes like they have in the past.

wildcat i would put 5 on every game hope you have money to give away

    MY CSAS STARTERS

1:daleon deere tough player that takes D serious and can handle the rock

2: Hassan cobb slasher with plenty of strength is more of a street player so have your ankel brace

3:Dontay hampton the glue to the team

4:terrell townsend or warren foster (speed or beef) townsend is the 3 point man and foster is the enforcer

    5:brian ball just plan tall

with Sr shooters mckoy and johnson on the bench points and quickness are not a problem

not a set up offense team but can do so if made to. run and gun till someone stops you

I wasnt talking about money. you say how easy this region is you make it sound like you could get five players and run right thru it undefeated.
