  1. No kidding. I'm just glad to have no ejections from the Rhea sideline. Passing game really improved tonight. The receivers made some tough catches in traffic on those slant routes. I know it was a blowout, but they got in some third/fourth and long situations by abandoning the run early in the first half. Rhea has its best success running right at people, which proved true again tonight. All in all, good win. Number 48 was literally headhunting all night. He clearly dove at the Rhea QB's helmet well after he was down before he was finally thrown out for his other cheap shot. I may be wrong on this, but was that the same guy that Swafford upended on that punt return? Its no real surprise, because White County is always so well-mannered. You stay classy, White County.
  2. Size don't matter? Did you play this game... ever? Again, like I said, he's a great athlete to get the ball to in open space, but you need a big strong back to get the dirty yards between the tackles. I think they have some great running balance with Julian inside and Moffett in the flats. Pick your poison. As for your comment about #12 catching the ball, I'm with you on that. He made some great grabs last year and then this year they don't throw him the ball. He must not have dropped enough passes to get a look.
  3. I saw him take a quick pitch against Cleveland for some yardage. Smart play considering Cleveland had no OLBs out there in the flat. I also saw him take a jet sweep to the house against Walker Valley. Neither one of those plays are plays you can call with any regularity. You can run them a couple of times a week, tops. They were both gimmick plays. Besides, he's arguably the best wideout on the team. Why take away your #1 pass option from the team? The better Rhea runs the ball, the better chance Moffett has of getting open and catching passes, which best utilizes his ability.
  4. If those personal reasons include speed, durability and running north and south, then you might be right. As great an athlete as Moffett is, I'm not sure his talents are best used between the tackles when you've got a guy like Julian. This team gets in trouble when it gets away from running the ball. When the O.C. keeps calling dinky screens and long developing passes, bad things happen. Whether they like it or not, this team is a power running team. Cleveland didn't stop the run all night. The coaches were right to keep running sweeps and short passes to the flat to Moffett (who has scored nearly every game this year, m4rcut) because there were no LBs in the flat. It worked and they kept exploiting the weakness. The only time Rhea's running game has been slowed is when Red Bank put 8 in the box and Rhea used 5 to block them. Even then, Rhea was able to keep the ball for nearly a quarter and a half uninterrupted. So, guess what kept Rhea out of the end zone? They stopped running the ball when they get to the goal line. Don't misunderstand, I'm not bashing Rhea's QBs or WRs, but this team is a successful smash-mouth running team and whoever is calling the plays should accept that. I know its not saying much, but running the ball every play against Cleveland was the smartest thing the offensive coordinator has done all year.
  5. I think you have missed my point. Support the football team all you like, but don't act like you have more "fanhood" than anybody else just because you happen to know some players. Every point in your argument on here is somehow validated by the fact that you happen to know some players. Nobody cares who you know. I hope all the athletic teams do well. I also hope that when large donations are given by La-Z-Boy and other local donors summing to no less than $150,000, they are used appropriately. Its not like they're asking for an upgrade for their track, they're just asking for a track to run on. I think given the success of the team over the last few years, its a shame they can't even have a home meet to show their talent at home. In all likelihood, this year's senior runners will not have had a home meet during their 4 years of high school, and that's pretty sad.
  6. You two are pretty funny. I would suggest that you two meet up in a parking lot and slap, scratch and pull hair on each other until one of you starts crying, but I have a feeling that one of you is scared and the other is just glad of it. m4rcut is clearly a guy that never played, or was on the team but never got to play. How sad is it to watch a guy whose sole purpose in life is to bash high school kids. He just says stuff to get everybody all riled up. He's not worth it, so just ignore him. As bad as that is, its even funnier to watch "Rhea Co." (the poster, not the team) respond. He is either an overzealous coach, or worse yet, some clinger-on who didn't know what to do when he graduated. (My money is on the latter) News Flash: Nobody cares how many players or coaches you know or talk to on a daily basis. It doesn't make you the absolute moral authority on who can and cannot have an opinion about the football program. The glory and accolades recieved by the football team do not become your own just because you assume responsibility for defending their honor on a cheap message board or ride their coattails to the playoffs year after year. This thread was supposed to be about the Maryville/Rhea Co. matchup. Does anybody have anything worth conversation on this? I hope so, because I'm sick of the Rhea Co/m4rcut catfight week after week.
  7. Hate to break it to you, but most if not all high school golf programs play on courses off school grounds. Besides, there's not enough acreage on site at RCHS to do that. While Hunter Green's career has been phenomenal, the RCHS track team sends multiple athletes to the state championships every year. Contrary to popular belief, there are more sports than football. I am a RC football fan, but I think all sports at the high school should be supported adequately. Its a shame that these track kids work so hard, and are not able to host a home meet and generate their own revenue. Having this track would help kids increase speed, stay in shape during the off-season and yes, even make the football team better. Just because you hate the football team doesn't mean you should hate all other athletes.
  8. Yes, ugly. Worse than that, they don't match anything. It doesn't take a fashion expert (or 20/20 vision from the home stands) to figure out that dark green helmets, black jerseys with white numbers and pewter-gold pants don't match. Not to mention that black isn't a school color. You're the first I've met who liked them, so that makes you and whoever decided to order these things as the two people that actually thought this was a good idea. So, are the boys wearing them tonight, or is this a one-time thing? Are the green jerseys no more?
  9. The track team can't make anything at the gate because there hasn't been a home meet in nearly 4 years. The investment of a track would be good for the entire athletic department, football included. If they still want to run that 3-5-3 and spread offense, you'd better believe that having these kids work on sprinting and endurance would be beneficial. The football team would also be able to keep more gate money, as the track team would have a way to generate their own funds so they wouldn't have to beg the AD for bus money to travel. I know that La-Z-Boy and area businessmen have given rather large donations which total very close to that number quoted for the track. I have also heard that a local industry that makes field turf has been in talks to give the field turf to the school as a means of advertisement (this may or may not include the cost of installation). A new track is a win-win for the entire athletic department. The performance of these track kids in recent years has been pretty amazing given the fact that they don't even practice on a track at all. The football team has relatively new practice jerseys, so new ones aren't needed. Say what you will, but there's no denying that the purchase of the black jerseys was a total waste, especially given the fact that they were to be worn for ONE GAME, not to mention how dog-ugly they were. Not only could those funds have better been spent on other sports that could actually use new uniforms, they could have also been spent on better priorities for the football team.
  10. The black jerseys displeased the football gods. We should have a bonfire. Or we could use athletic funds for the track/cross country team (seeing how they actually go to state) Speaking of which, where's that rubber track we were promised last summer? Anybody?
