  1. I want to make a comment and please don't take this in the wrong way or that it is trash talking.

First, it is great to have confidence in your team(s). But, when it crosses the line, so to speak, it can come back and get you in trouble.

All week long, we all trash talked to a point on here about what each team was going to do to the other that Friday at noon.

I talked to our ( Union City ) coaches staffs a couple of days after the game. The coaches kinda laughed at the pregame show and had been told about it before but really didn't bother our team or coaches staff...just thought it is not the place for High School Football. The way S P did/do their thing in pregame, your coaches or your players really do not realize that basically it is bulletin board material right before the other teams very eyes. Union City team never really saw what little show the S P players were trying to put on for the fans during warm ups but basically it will and did burn you to a point when you play a team that is focused and ready to play.

We would have played just as good either way but that just adds a little fuel to the fire so to speak for the other team. Basically coming out and trying to show and intimidate the other team most of the time doesn't work and it was proven that day. .

Our coaches and players aren't and will not be like that. But from the Union City and other fans stand point, that is part of S P game plan and really doesn't work on your better teams. It probably does work on the weaker teams which were the ones you won. .

But over all, the little pregame walk from the endzone with the S P helments high in the air might be a tradition for your school and may not be but that really needs to be left in practice.

I have been saying all year long that Union City was on a mission and they were. They were prepared like no other Single A team in the state before each game by our GREAT coaching staff. They didn't really worry about what the other team did. we were going to play our style and if you stop us on the field then you win. Two teams were able to do that this year...really three counting our jamboree with McKenzie loosing by one point.

WE really could have gone undefeated if the flu bug and injuries had not hit us at the time it did but we were 100% come playoffs and that was when it counted. One of the teams that beat us didn't even make the playoff and the other one we knocked out in the 3rd round.

My point is, show just a little more class before the game to the other team and their fans. If so, when you do get beat the next time, it won't be so hard to come around folks and on chat boards to cover up you before damages.

I had fans walk up to me before the game telling me that we didn't have a chance. Not good. Everyone was nice but just the attitude that was shown.

It was one of if not the best high school games I had ever seen and I have seen several in my time.

I will have to say I was not a fan of the pregame show, but it is the team and the coaches that decide what they do before the game. I don't think it hurt our boys anymore than it helped UC. The fact of the matter is, two good teams played and one had to lose. Our boys played with class and left it all on the field. I am proud of our team. Look for our boys to be competing again next year for that gold ball!

  2. My point is, show just a little more class before the game to the other team and their fans. If so, when you do get beat the next time, it won't be so hard to come around folks and on chat boards to cover up you before damages.

This is where SP really struggles.......................... :roflol::wacko:

I can remember in the 90s when them Jasper folks ran their yappers at the South Pittsburg faithful.....looks like the tables have turned. What comes around goes around, huh??

  3. 94 Pirate you are wrong. If those boys at Jasper lift alot of weights and we dont, they will be able to knock a hole in our line for their runners to run through and probably beat us. I hope Grider has our boys lifting weights so they will be real big and strong for next year.

Ok Roy, don't get your undies in a wad. Jasper just does not have the players to compete with the Pirates right now.

For all you doubters out there.....the Pirates will be back next year. I have faith in our coaching staff to have our boys ready. If they get back to basics (conditioning, strength training) they will run it down anyone's throat next year and make them like it. This team will still be young but the talent is still there to compete for the region and another state title.

  4. If one thing is a blessing in disguise from our loss it is to hit the weights and get much stronger and back to old school pirate smash mouth football

Isnt this what you said after last year??? :popcorneater:

One thing about it TTP, no matter how much weights the Warriors lift, they won't beat the Pirates for several years to come.....and that will keep them from winning the region. :):):)

  5. I think Gordonsville will be the 1A team to beat next year on our side of the state. I don't know about the issues but I was impressed with the size of your team this year. SP and Gordonsville will square off for the next few years in the playoffs much like TC and SP faced each other in the last 10 years.

I met up with a few men from Gordonsville after the loss in the state...I think they were coaches for the Tigers but I did not ask. Anyway, they were nice guys and we both agreed that we will see a lot of each other during this newest playoff format. Good luck next year Tigers!

  6. The 2010 Pirates need to look at how the 2007 team approached each game 2 years ago. They did not overlook anyone and played hard whether it was a team they should beat or a team that was equally as good. Respecting your opponent is the key to playing hard each week. The 2009 team was talented but in my opinion listened to the blowhards too much. They underestimated two of the three teams that they lost to and both ran a style of offense very familiar to us older Pirates. I hope they learn from some of the mistakes made the last couple of years and get back to Pirate Football. There is plenty of talent coming back to have a good team next year.....just how good they will be is how hard they work in the off season and if they play as a team.

  7. Im begining tp think that the sore losers frm SP are nothing more than a few students or folks who graduated not to long ago. It an only be the immaturity of youth that causes these guys to say such stupid things. They can't help it. They just dont know how to deal with disapointment yet. So all they know to do is pout and whine and try to insult the person or thing that brings them pain. You can hear the pain in their posts. To bad the little rednecks were never taught to respect anything. Because ignorance is contageous.

First of all, let me say that I have no affiliation with either of these schools. In fact, I didn't see either of them play all season.

Congrats to Union City. A state championship is something no one can ever take from you, and you should be proud of your hard work. South Pitt, nothing is as hard as finishing as a runner up in a state championship game, but someday you will realize what an accomplishment it was and how privileged you were to play in that game. Great season for both teams.

Union City: I understand feeling some frustration with being disrespected throughout the week by south Pitt posters, but YOU WON. That fact alone should do all the talking that needs to be done.

As an unbiased observer, some of your posters reflect poorly on your school and city. "Win like a winner, Lose like a winner." A couple of you have mentioned players being on these boards and reading these posts. Why don't you try to show them what a winner acts like by enjoying your win, and not talking trash to the team you just beat. It makes you look like you have never been there before.

I certainly don't want all Union city posters to think I'm talking to them, because from what I can tell, most of you are a class act. Again, congrats to both teams, and to Union City for bringing home the gold ball.

This is the email I wanted to write a couple days ago, but all the bashing by the UC posters got my blood boiling and I just posted something I should have just kept to myself. This game could have gone either way. Turnovers and missed tackles doomed the Pirates. UC won the game playing their style of ball. I congratulate them on the win and apologize for the previous email.

  8. What a great game between two determined teams. Both left all the had on the field and unfortunately one had to lose. Union City has a very boring offense but it worked to perfection today. Big ole #27 gained 3-4 yards on just about every play. SP has struggled all year against physical teams. Congratulations to UC on a big win. The only thing I don't agree with is that UC dominated the game. If they did, they would not have given up 28 points. The Pirates beat themselves today with two turnovers and poor tackling. If Malcolm does not drop the pass in the endzone on the first series, the Pirates are up 21-7 at halftime.

The Pirates played their hearts out and have nothing to be ashamed of tonight. The seniors did a great job leading this team all year and will be missed. The underclassmen need to step up, work hard in the off season, and prepare for next season.

UC has a quality team. I know some of our SP faithful were predicting a blowout but don't bash the team. Anyone that gets on here and laughs at players being injured is a sick individual. Our boys played hard and just came up a little short this year. Anyone that is happy that they lost and bashs SP is just jealous...plain and simple. Very few 1A teams can graduate talented seniors like we have the last two years and be back in the State game.

One more thing....these fellars coming out of the woodworks saying that their team could handle SP are really funny. If they could handle SP, why were they not on the opposite side of the field??? Oh, yeah they were beaten by UC or by someone UC put out of the playoffs. Congrats UC...you earned the win today.

First bold comment: You personally blamed a SP player for possibly costing the team a state title then followed it up by saying they shouldn't be ashamed...seems like a pot calling the kettle black.

Second bold comment: I assume you're referring to Purple & Gold Standard's comment and I'm pretty sure he clarified the situation a few posts up.

Third bold comment: Who is really the jealous party? The ones being humble about an upset state title win, or the overcompensating fans that are trying to make excuses by blaming teenagers for dropping passes in the endzone?

Random thought: The fact that you say SP struggled against physical teams all year then go on to say that people saying other teams would have held their own against SP is contradicting. If a team that beat UC such as Huntingdon did it by being more physical than UC then by your own statement of SP having problems with physical teams seems to suggest that Huntingdon would have held their own or possibly beat SP.

Read the post again moron....I did not blame anything on #21. I was just putting in perspective what could have been if he caught that ball. There were more plays than that on that determined the game. Please don't think us Pirate fans are jealous of your team....if I had to watch that every week, I would go to sleep...boring!!!

  9. Let me just say this...I was at the game and my thoughts on South Pitt...kinda short....

You have 3 players...the rest average if that.

    #6, #21 and #11.

Now....I know one other team that would have spanked that butt tonight....Huntington. To me, South Pitt, your good but not as good as you thought you were. TCA and Huntingdon would beat you or have given you all you wanted.

    Now...

Two things I have a little problem with and now after the game a little better but not much.

First, I have seen the Youtube Video and "LIVE" today ( Friday ) of the little deal when you walk from the endzone with your helments "HIGH" in the air....NOT GOOD....Just a little to Cocky and was taken down a notch or two on that today by our Tornadoes.

    Problem Two...

Your sign......That just shows the kinda school you have by posting what you did. We could all see the sign with the "2009 Rign on the wrong finger" deal.

Now.....If I were you, I would have a little town hall meeting, fire your coaches and fire your administration for allowing that as well as your cheer leading sponsors.

Not good...not good at all...just a little to far.

But you know what....we WON that 2009 Ring......and we will wear it on the right finger.

Your team is good, but I have seen just as good or better this year. Us for one and Huntingdon and TCA from the West the others.

So, until the next time we meet, remember the little boy from Spain, 16, who has never played football, come into your minds along with the other players on our team and BEAT YOU!!

Each of you have this coming....

We do not give individual awards on our team...we are a team, play as a team and win as a team.

Great Year Union City...can't wait til the celebration day for showing the "GOLD"

You and your purple and gold friends are some of the poorest sports I have ever seen after a game....where you did not dominate....you won by 2 points with an exchange soccer student!! Look at the stats...we had 20-30 less plays than you did and still almost matched your yardage and points. I will never respect the Union team or school after the way you bunch of punks have gotten on here...downed our team, our town, and our community. You say that we had 3 players and that was it...what a joke!!! If you are going to go that route, then your team only had 1...#27. Take him off your team and we beat you handily. You can talk about other teams beating us until you are blue in the face. Yesterday was Union's day...everything in the game went your way. I agree with the poster earlier that mentioned if we played you 5 times, we would win 4 out of 5 times. Enjoy that Gold ball...probably will be the last one you get since you should be in 2A anyway.

  10. What a great game between two determined teams. Both left all the had on the field and unfortunately one had to lose. Union City has a very boring offense but it worked to perfection today. If they could handle SP, why were they not on the opposite side of the field??? Oh, yeah they were beaten by UC or by someone UC put out of the playoffs. Congrats UC...you earned the win today.

  11. A great game won by a great team. UC showed that it had the right stuff today. I'm at a loss for words. Our (SP) poster's should all take a lesson today. One of humility. Our team played their hearts out. But UC was the team of destiny today. What a contrasts of teams. Very well played,on both sides. The Pirates will be back. Congrats to the UC community and coaching staff. Maybe we will still respect our young men,win lose,or draw like we should. Hope we don't play the blame game this after this 1.

I hope there isn't any blame game being played either considering Robinson still hasn't scored on that first touchdown, that SP kid's knee was down on that pass play and a SP player tackled Jacob Worley (#11) on the two-point conversion...The only thing the Pirate fanbase can remotely argue is the personal foul penalty near the end of the game but the SP kid did push Bowling while he was on the ground but nobody heard what he said while he was pushing Bowling in the turf...

It was a great game...5 penalties in all called on both teams combined....

Union City ran 70 plays.....69 of those run plays...They lost 5 yards in 69 carries....Josh Nicks had 47 carries....Out of all those carries he only lost 1 yard....UC had 32 mins plus of TOP to SP's 15 mins plus...SP KNEW UC couldn't pass and they still couldn't stop the run....That vaunted SP defense we all kept hearing about got run over, around and thru.......That speedy SP defense couldn't catch that slow #28 for Union City on those speed sweep plays either ....There are no excuses when you get manhandled by a team's offensive line...

I don't remember you personally making all those crazy predictions but there were plenty of your fellow Pirate Nation brothers and maybe sisters that did....There is Crow Supper of huge proportions that will be served on here the next day or so and with good reason ....

I hope Roy Dillard got his answer about whether or not Union City lifted any weights and also hope the Tornadoes earned enough respect to be called by their actual name...Union City...Not just Union or Onion City....Cute but a complete lack of respect for the opponent...

If he would have read that Murphy Fair book a little closer he would have seen that the Tornadoes lift weights and alot of them.....I don't remember seeing one Union City player limp off the field...I saw numerous SP players sprawled out or limp off...Thank goodness all of them, that I remember, came back and played..Maybe THEY need to hit the weights a little more....Did anybody else hear that one of the coaches for SP said that the injury to #21 was more or less in his head ??..I :D at that....

What a classless post about #21...you lost all respect from me by bashing a player that played his heart out. Your great tornado team could not stop him or #6 so I see it as even between them and your big running back.

  12. I will say this now like I said it after the Boyd game....no way would they beat us if Terrell played...and if the field was dry it would be worse. They can puff their chests out and say they beat the Pirates but deep down they know they got lucky to play us in a monsoon and without our best player. I think Trousdale Co wins this games because they have battle tested players that were in this situation last year....plus they have a beast at running back/linebacker. TC, this is one Pirate fan that is rooting for you to win it Saturday!!! Go Jackets!!

  13. Alright...it is late Thursday night and Pirate fans are having a hard time sleeping dreaming of that gold ball. I expect this to be a very hard-nosed, hard-hitting ballgame. Both teams will bring their A game but the Pirates will prevail due to the tough schedule they played this year. I have to agree with Old Pirate when he said earlier this year that our offense should score at least 1 touchdown each quarter. With that said, I think we will score one more. Union City will play tough but will not have the horses to stay with the Pirates after the 3rd quarter. My prediction:

    Mighty Pirates: 35

    Gritty Tornados: 21

GO PIRATES!!!!!! BRING THAT GOLD BALL HOME!!!!!!!!!!

  14. My take on this game is that SP will get another gold ball. If and I say IF Union City runs the veer well then they can move the ball on the pirates. SP has an overly agressive defense and with the right reads the veer offense is the perfect offense against this type of team. In order for union city to have a chance they will have to rely on SP turning the ball over and will have to play nearly perfect. No one in single A can match the athletes of a South Pitt. They have the athlete facilities that can match many many big city areas :D Sp by four touchdowns. For some reason I think that union city will keep it close for a while, but some turnovers will start the landslide :D

From an inside source in that area....they may not "Recruit" but they do something. Anyone who knows anything about H S football will say that if a Single A team is that good with that little of a school....something fishy is going on here.

Union City....WILL PROVE that they can give the little old pirates all they want come noon Friday...just watch my friend.

And if your that good...why don' t you play up a class or two like Trousdale County did for a couple of years....couldn't hang I imagine!! That was proven this year!

What a bunch of garbage!! Everybody in our area knows that all our players are hometown boys. You are just plain jealous and trying to make excuses for losing before the game even starts. We will see if your Union City boys are up to the task tomorrow at 12:00. We played 2A, 3A, and 4A teams and won all but two of those games so that is not even a valid point there bud.

  15. peg and pirate2003, I hate to say it, but I can promise you that Robinson isn't the player of Washington. One of you made a comment about TCA not looking like a very good or strong team, however that team this year relied ALOT on Jabriel Washington because that's practically all they had. Jabriel is being recruited as an Athlete according to his rivals page. He'll probably wind up as a WR or DB. His offers alone tell you and me who is the better player. I mean Jabriel has 15-20 MAJOR D1 scholarships hanging in the air. According to Robinson's rivals page, he had 6 schools that showed INTEREST. None offered him a scholarship. That might explain why he winded up at UTC. There's no doubt in my mind that Jabriel is most likely the best overall Single A football player in all of Tennessee. Unfortunately, his team this year wasn't the greatest.

UC obviously had problems with Jabriel in that game against TCA. That's why I stated earlier in this thread that I think it's going to be very tough for UC to contain Terrell. If UC can keep them from turning the corners, they should be ok.

From what I have been told, Jabriel could not hold Terrell's jockstrap. Terrell is a stud on both sides of the ball. Jabriel may be the real deal, but I can guarantee if you saw Terrell play, you would not be doubting his ability....just ask all the teams we have played this year. UC will have trouble with Terrell...mark that down. No one we have played has shut him down....not even Polk County. Ask the Boyd fans if they would want to play us again with a healthy Terrell Robinson. My point is, many players are overlooked in 1A football. Terrell is not blinding fast, but has good speed, a great arm, and is a great leader on the field.

  16. One last note to you "Pirate" fans.....

In 2007....Michigan didn't think Appalachian State would come into their home and run the table...

Anything is possible, your team is human and the game will be played this Friday at noon.

I'm done, good luck come Friday and may the best team that day win.

Oh Yea......A Tornado Warning will be issed at Kickoff Friday 12 noon.

    Good Day.

The problem with this scenario is that UC would be Michigan and SP would be Appy State.....we have the speed demons, remember?? The tornado warning may be issued Friday but there will not be any "touchdowns" for the tornados. GO PIRATES!!!!!!!

  17. Well Ive sat back and read all this sports jargin all I can. I feel like POpeye the Sailor " Ive had all I can stands and I cant stands no more". One thing is for sure about The Championship Game ... we know who we are playing The Mighty Pirates. A program that is known for a rich tradition of champions. One that is steeped in honor and quality players. One that most people would brag saying "SP only beat us by 4 TDs. We must be pretty good to hold em under 50 pts." WE KNOW YOU ARE THE GIANTS OF 1A. I love people who support their kids and are confident in thier abilities. Confidence is intoxicating. Its also a poisonous pill. Having said that......... Im not so sure that you know who you are playing. Our boys are some of the best kids Ive ever known. Regaurdless of what some of the WC posters think. Our guys have also known ,from the begiing of summer camp that they would be facing SP if they got to the BIG SHOW. I like our position . Popular opinion says we dont stand a chance. Many are hoping for revenge of sorts because we spanked them. We respect you ...... but......WE ARE NOT IN AWE OF YOU. If we win if could be said that it was a Cinderella victory. We will be there on the field you know. Not in the locker room. We will have our pads strapped on Tight ready to Give you all you want. I hear all the talk about lifgting weights during the season. What? do yall think you invented that concept? Our boys lift every single day right after a 3 hour practise too. This team is poised and dont get easily disturbed. They will hit you in the mouth and help you up off the ground when you fall. We have great coaches who know how to win and have won championships. Hungry Hungry Hungry. That's what we are. "The one who is most greatful to sit at the table is the one who best remembers hunger pains"(Steven Curtis Chapman) We will not be your buffet. Your all you can eat lunch. Your 5 dollar footlongs or any other description you want to put out there. We will be the most starving, striving, relentless bunch of wolves you've met all year. A word to the wise. The better the competition the better we play. We know we are in for the game of our lives. Do you? Strap it on Tornadoes . BigSwo's got your back. Im not limpin away from this and niether will you. Grind em up. They are only human.

It is good to see that not all UC fans are like the last one that posted ignorant info. We do not recruit. Our players are from families that have lived in SP for generations....that is why we have had good teams for so many years. Many SP graduates have gone on to professional careers.

UC has been to the title game several times without winning it all. Pirate fans that have been around awhile know how that feels.....we were runner-ups in 85 and 86. Since then, SP has gotten over the hump with championships in 1994, 1999, and 2007. I know that UC is hungry, but these Pirates are too. We were picked to win it all last year and fell short. These boys are hungry and want to bring another championship home. I expect a hard-hitting, tough ballgame but my gut feeling is that SP is at least 2-3 tds better than UC.

  18. I garuntee you that this Robinson boy at SP is the best player in this 1A this year.

You wood b wrong this time,Roy.

I wish the best to all these young men,it's a shame all of them can't win it. I will say this much, whoever doesn't win has already done something that most of us can only dream of doing....just being nominated.

If you have not seen him play in person, you don't really know. Who is still leading his team to a possible state championship? I think that should be weighed in the voting but sadly, most of the time it is all about a player that has stats against weak competition.

  19. I will be surprised if Terrell Robinson wins the award this year since David Jones won it from SP last year. I really hope he does...he is well deserving. There have been years past where I thought a couple of other backs from SP should have won the award (Eddie Moore 1998, Robert Robinson 2007) but did not. It is all about voting and most of the voters never see the players...they just look at stats.

  20. Great win by the Pirates Friday night! I have been so tied up on things this weekend that I have not had time to post since I got back from the game. After we gave GCA two touchdowns, the Pirates totally dominated on both sides of the ball.

Union City I am sure is a good team. I have watched a few highlights of your games the last few weeks and they look solid on both sides of the ball. With that said, I don't think they have faced as fast an athletic team like the Pirates all year. They may have seen one or two good players on a team but not 11. Unless they can control the clock and keep the Pirate offense on the sidelines, the Pirates will add another gold ball to their trophy case. I think these folks that think that have seen the best back in 1A will notice that we have 3-4 great backs that would be superstars at any other high school. This bunch is talented and they play as a team.

  21. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Silver and Blue, we here at South Pittsburg are thankful for God's blessings, our small town family atmosphere, our families, and our PIRATES!!! I don't expect anything but a good game tomorrow. I just can't predict a blowout because I have never seen Grace play and the Pirates have lost two games this year. Most of us Pirates fans know we have weaknesses, but every team does to a point.....except that 2007 state team. I watched some of Zone's clips last night on youtube. That team was really good....but this team is in it's own way. Everyone have a great day and I will be back on here later tonight with my prediction for the game.

  22. I understand you guys have to be pretty solid to run up the record and scores the Pirates have had this year. As with any team, there's room for improvement. What areas do you guys struggle in? You were beat twice, I understand T. Robinson was sick in one of those games, what about the other game, what happened there?

GCA struggles from time to time with protection. I will say, Hopkins is pretty mobile. Our protection has been much better the 2nd half of the season.

It has been tough on teams to cover our receivers, they seem to find open spaces. GCA has been plaqued by the yellow hanky. We will have to cut that out this week in order to win.

What about #77 for you guys, I read that he was ejected, is that an automatic suspension for this game, and what effect will that play?

Boyd was the first loss and fans had to wait almost 3 hours for the start of that game due to heavy rain and a tornado warning. This game should have been postponed due to the weather BUT that is another story. Anyway, yes T. Robinson was sick with the flu. The Pirate D almost won this one. Our offense was slowed by several turnovers but all in all the Pirates played hard and just got beat. Most of us Pirate fans feel like we could have won that game with Robinson in the lineup, but you have to play with what you have at the time. The Polk loss was due to the Pirates taking them too lightly. Polk punched them in the mouth the first half and the Pirates evened the score in the second but came up short. I think they learned a lesson that night not to underestimate any team. I expect a hard hitting, high energy game Friday....if you get this far in the playoffs, you must be a good team. Here is looking for an injury free game. :flower:

  23. I guess I am like OP....I don't know much about this team at all. I know they throw the ball alot and are supposed to have a good offense. I hope they have a good defense or it will be a long night for the Rams. The Pirates played well and the coaches did a great job preparing them for Gordonsville. The only question I still have is why is Sellers and Hale not in the backfield together? I think both of them in the backfield make a dynamic pair and would make it tough to defend the Pirates. I ain't the coach, so I don't know the reasoning behind that....anyway, I have confidence that the Pirates will show up to play and will take a great effort by Grace to beat them.

  24. Can ya'll play this one on Saturday?? I can't miss my Pirates play Knox Grace or I would love to come watch this one. McKenzie will have to play their best game to win at the Creekbank....us South Pittsburg fans know that for a fact. Our record of 1-2 shows it is a tough place to play. Good luck to both teams. Whoever wins this one will probably be facing Boyd Buchanan in the state game.

  25. Great game by the Pirates tonight...they really played well. The first series by Gordonsville brought back memories of the Polk Co game, but our defense tightened up after that Wild Tiger formation gave us problems. The Pirates played like a team very focused and determined to win it all and if they play like they did tonight, they will be very hard to beat. Gordonsville fans, no hard feelings here. Emotions run high when it is your last game of the season or of your career. The only one I was not too crazy about was when Terrell was slammed out of bounds after a throw. Good luck to the Tigers next year and I am sure we will see you again in the playoffs.
