  1. Goodman, I think you are right. Those three plus Weatherspoon spell a nightmare for any team to defend. I think this team is very good. It is not the best team SP has had, but it ranks right up there with the best. The 98 and 99 teams were very good. Also, you can not forget the 94 team or the 85 and 86 teams. The type of football was different back then, but we had speed then as well. Overall, it is just hard to compare teams. They all had there strengths and weaknesses. The line play this year has really improved on both sides of the ball and that is the difference. I think you can give a little credit there to Coach Baxter who came out of retirement to help out. He coached me and I know I would have never been the player I was without his coaching. You either did what he told you or he would make you think he was going to kill you. He was just old school. Anyway, like I said in an earlier post, we should win out as long as we play like we have the last few games. That is not being cocky, just the facts.
  2. I just got a chance to get on the board this morning and wanted to put my two cents worth in on the next game. I don't know much about FCS, but they have to pretty good to get this far. South Pittsburg was really clicking on offense Friday night. The only back that really was never able to get loose was Jones. I love to see that kid run. Defensively, I thought we played pretty good. It looked like TC picked up a few plays from the Tyner film from what I read in the paper. I talked to one of the voices of the Pirates and was also told this. I am sure any coach that sees film on SP will try and use plays that we may have give up yards on, but to be honest, there were not many except for the Tyner game. A lot of that had to do with the players on that team rather than our boys not making plays. I think if we play our game and don't have any injuries, we will be a hard team to beat the rest of the way. By the way, Mike Pirate or Pirate Mike, what position did you play on the 98-99 teams? I am good friends with Mike Jackson and his brother Jeremy(who played on the 93 SP team). I was just curious. GO PIRATES!!!!
  3. Hey everyone! This is my first post on the board, but I have been reading your messages all night. The 4 games between these two powerhouses have all been great, whether you have been on the winning side or not. I will have to say when I noticed we were playing TC in the first round, I got a little nervous. My senior year, we played TC for the first time. I had never heard of TC, but once Detric Woodmore and the Valentine boys walked by me, I knew we were in for one heck of a game. We lost, but I felt good about the way we played them after the first quarter. The next year we had a little bit of MO and revenge on our side. It is funny how we play each other for two years just ever so often. Anyway, I will get to the predictions. The Pirates are a good team, but TC has so much tradition and a good coach. This should be another great game. I will have to say I will give the edge to the Pirates, but I think it will be a hard fought game. And by the way, someone was discussing the 1998 and 1999 SP teams. Eddie Moore was a senior on the 1998 team. I think if we had not abandoned the run that year, we might have had a chance. We had really not thrown the ball much that year, so I never figured out why we did that. The defense was also changed the week of the TC game and I think that definitely hurt us, but I am not taking anything away from TC. They were a great team and played a great game. I hope all of the TC fans have a safe trip and that we have a big crowd at Beene Stadium tomorrow night. One more thing. I think Scruggs from the 1998 team was definitely the MVP of the TC team against us. If you could watch the film from that game, you would see him blocking 2-3 guys on just about every Thomas Payne touchdown. GO PIRATES!!!!
