  1. You got us confused with them McMinn Central folks, they're the ones with the goats right next to the football field...... or do they just put them there when Polk visits....??

Should be a good game tomorrow night. Charlie enjoys this game and hopes it continues to be on the schedule.

Since us Charger folks don't have the pristene stadiums that you Wildcats and Pirates do...we just decided to offer a "Petting Zoo" to our worthy visitors!! roflol.gif

  2. I am still trying to get a beat on Sweetwater. Seeing them play at the jamboree they just did not impress me. Again it could just be the fact they were mixed starters/non-starters. Could someone confince me why they are going to be good - and I am not saying they are not. I just don't know?

Just my humble opinion...they have a little size and some speed this year and more importantly, they have the best staff they have had up there in years. Getting the kids to believe after some down years is huge...as you have witnessed first hand...and their kids are starting to believe in themselves. I am waiting on the outcome of the Sweetwater - Polk game to get the proper read of what they really are this year. But as for now...4-0 against anybody ain't doing too bad!

  3. I am getting tired of the cracks on Derrick and having no discipline...people have no idea what went on with those kids, I can promise you they were disciplined, I know because I was part of the staff. We just handled issues internally, folks just guess about stuff instead of getting the facts. Decisions were ALWAYS a staff decision, keeping Jackson was something we all soul searched before we agreed and he met all of the requirements to return to the team we set forth. Yes, he did get kicked off during the season, but again it was a staff decision. We tried to help some of those so called problem kids get a chance to get to the next level so they could leave the inviornment they lived in...some worked out but some didn't...I have no regrets about what we did because I know we did it for the right reasons. Coach Wilkerson was huge with those kids and was probably the toughest on the kids of any of us. Like him or not, just don't make accusations about stuff you don't know is a fact.

  4. That was me and my oldest son Cody - moved from Etowah to Reliance in 2007 - and the paperwork was ridiculous. Freaking wannabe Derrick and McMinn Central even tried to challenge it! My oldest wasn't a even starter at either school. I gained custody of my younger twin boys before their eighth grade year and they play for Coach Davis now - not starting either lol...

The other subject was that Rayl kid Derrick imported from Meigs (Meigs was not happy about it either) - at one point MC's star player was in so much trouble, to keep him on the team, the kid's mother actually signed parental rights over to Derrick's father so the kid could continue to play for MC. Derrick left after it was found he liked his player's mothers too. Price is in the same league as Derrick, cut from the same mold IMO.

And it's not common in our district - we bitched and complained then too. You have no idea how glad I was to meet Coach Davis after our move to Reliance - play is based on merit, hard work, and no BS - I've seen Coach Davis cut AWESOME players from the team for lying or getting in trouble in town. Polk County players are expected to behave honorably on or off the field and it is enforced.

Unbelievable!! 4 years ago...and you are Still making up crap about Coach Derrick!! It must really keep you up at night, thinking what your weekly pot shot about Central and Coach D will be.... I am sorry you are such a bitter man about an issue that you have blown way out of porportion, Cody is such a great kid and sad he got caught in the middle of yourt feud with Coach Derrick....SAD!

  5. Most of the time when the label "choker" is used, it is done by someone with an axe to grind. Most of the time, a team does not choke, but is beaten by a better team. If you want to talk about choking, then I would refer you to the undefeated Patriots against the Giants, a wild card team. In HS sports, it would be Maryville's football team losing to Greenback in the first round. For a team to lose to the undefeated returning state champs, it is not choking. I also agree with the strategy of keeping th pedal to the metal when ahead. I seem to recall other teams in professional sports playing a "prevent" defense, only to see the lead vanish and their team lose. Given this history, I will never fault a coach for playing the way that is working, and making adjustments when the score is the opposite.

Even great players/teams/coaches choke from time to time. Take Peyton Manning for instance. He has choked in some of his playoff/championship games but is still one of the best QB's of all time. It just happens sometimes. It does not mean you are lousy or have some sort of character flaw.

Personally, I find it hard to defend a strategy that didn't work. Sometimes you have to change or adjust your strategy as the game unfolds before it is too late.

I am not sure you were there at the game...but I was. Basketball is a game of "runs" usually, and Central went on a run vs Westview of 30 to 6, I didn't feel Westview "choked" as you refer, Central just played flawless basketball. In the Championship game, Central went on a big run to get up by 19, I sure didn't see Gibson "choke" during that run. They did catch fire and went on a run of there own, hitting NBA threes and caught Central. The game ended as I felt the game would end, a less than 5 point difference between the two teams. I saw two teams leave it all on the floor with great effort and Both teams represented their schools and Districts with class, no choking, as you seem to feel. Gibson is a great team as is Central, which made for a fantastic Championship game.

  6. To the referees out there on this blog.... I have been a coach and was raised by a long time coach so I know several refs and officials personally. One of the traits of the good old school refs were they were more worried about being in the proper position to make the call than the proper mechanics or what was being said from the stands. I have never questioned a call IF the ref or official was hustling and in position, no matter if I thought different of the call. I assumed he saw what I did not... Now my problem with a lot of today's refs is the lack of hustle and making long distance calls overtop another official who was in position. I feel that the fans in the stands see the lack of effort and that is why some are very vocal during games. I am one who doesn't think the three officials in basketball has made it better, I see a lot more lazy efforts and missed calls than in the days of the two person teams. And by the way, I have had this discussion with several of my "Ref" friends and to the person, they agree.

  7. Congrats Obion Central on the #1 ranking....

I was surprised to see they had jumped over McMinn Co and Elizabethton who were #2 and # 3 respectively last week....I guess in the eyes of the voters a win on the road against a team with 3 DI signees that had won 55 straight games overall and 40 in a row on their home court AND that team being the defending state champion carried a whole lot of weight....

Not sure about all those Lake County comparisons though or what it matters....Lake County is a very good team..How they would stack up against Jackson Co, Middleton, Gleason, or Forrest THIS YEAR is yet to be seen...I think the #5 ranking for LC may be low...I might have them at least at #3...

That is McMinn CENTRAL... McMinn Co. is a AAA school and usually not very good... just sayin'

  8. Having played against Alcoa a couple of weeks ago and after watching Loudon dismantle a very good Polk Co team last week, here is my prediction. Alcoa will see a much better team than they did earlier, Loudon will match up pretty good up front IF they come to play like against Polk. Skill player edge goes to Alcoa. F5 continues its run to Cookeville, but it won't be a blowout against a very tough Loudon squad.
