  1. It seems there is present and past "Best Pure shooter in East TN."

Past Ron Widby Knox Fulton (UT SEC Champs player also)

Jimmy England Holston (A Vol also)

Billy Justice Fulton (Jersey Retired at Fulton and a Vol

Bill Armstrong Knox Central (60) 28 pts a game before 3 point)

    Eddie (pee wee)Chandler Knox Rule

A W Davis Rutledge (The Rifle) (UT)

    Jerry Cannon Powell (C.N)

Mike Ogan Powell (could flat shoot from anywhere)

Jay Cole Knox South (avg 40 a game from outside Sr. year)

    Pogue (last name) South Doyle

I am sure there are more from the past. Just the ones I saw.

I need to think about East TN now group of Best Pure Shooters.

I agree with a lot of your list. I saw England and Justice, Ogan, Widby and A. W. Davis all play. Was Coached by Davis at McMinn Central! I would also add Paul Webb from McMinn Central, he could flat shoot the lights out. Austin Clark from Kingston was also pretty darn good too. Kinda dates my age with these picks!

  2. We have added McMinn Central. We go to Athens this year. The game with Chatt Central is a home game for us this year and an away game next year.

Correction, McMinn Central is between Englewood and Etowah, McMinn Co. (AAAAA) is in Athens. The Chargers are looking forward to playing you folks. There is some history in basketball between us and our fans travel well so it should be a good gate for you when we come your way.

  3. Here is the 2009 schedule for the Chiefs next year:

    Aug 21 Scott County Away

    Aug 28 Tellico Plains Home

    Sept 4 Meigs County* Home

    Sept 11 Lenoir City Away

    Sept 18 OPEN

    Sept 25 CAK Away

    Oct 2 McMinn Central* Away

    Oct 9 Signal Mtn. Home

    Oct 16 Polk County* Home

    Oct 23 Loudon Home

    Oct 30 Sweetwater* Away

    * District Games

Actually compared to what I have seen of Polk and Central's Schedules, this one is a lot easier than theirs!

  4. O.K. here is the non region schedule for Polk next year;

Bradley,Walker Valley, South Pitt., Notre Dame and Chatt. Christian + looking for one more.

    Region is;

    Central, Sweetwater, Sequoyah, and Meigs.

Talk about a tough non region schedule. /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> I think this will help in the long run. Good job Coach Davis! Ok you Central folks can't say Polk has a weak schedule next year.

Heard also that Central has picked up Alcoa, Walker Valley and another big school.

Here is what I heard Central's pickups are: McMinn, Bradley, Walker Valley and Alcoa so far , probably Loudon and still looking for a game in week 10. Yep, definitely an upgrade for both Polk and Central!! I think Coach Davis and Coach Derrick have been hanging out together too much lately!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  5. I have heard he is having a hard time filling it, he has been turned down by 20-25 teams. IMO this speaks volumes about the program and the coach.

Yep on the following suit, Central has added, (from what I heard) McMinn, Bradley, Walker Valley, and ALCOA so far and probably Loudon. Still looking for another in week 10. That will get your attention!! Dist schedule is Polk, Sweetwater, Meigs and Sequoyah. Central and Sequoyah will be AAAA in playoffs.

  6. I continue to read on this thread of region3 teams lacking the number of athletes to defeat teams from region4, and I totally agree. We all thought Central would have the athletes to win a least 1 round. Maybe Central was not that athletic, its just that the rest of us are that bad. As 6+4+3=2 alluded to earlier, Polk had 1 kid who ran 4.6 to 4.7. I doubt Meigs had any and we played Region3 teams who were slower than us. Its easy to look fast when everyone else is so slow.

Now couple the lack of atheletes with no middle school programs and you see the end results. IMO we will never see middle school programs in our area because of a lack of funding.

Come on oldschoolcharger it hasnt been that long since we been to the playoffs. oh how soon we forget. lol

If you will read my post again I had you guys down for 3 trips in the last 4 years. I haven't forgot that string of losses we suffered through!! LOL, I don't know about the rest of you folks but we WERE that bad for a good while.

  7. Which two losses for ND? 2005 lost to region 2 Livingston and defeated 3 region 4 teams (macon, Pearl Cohn and White House). 2006 lost to White House. 2007 and 08 did not go to playoffs.

Sorry I thought they were in the 2007 playoffs. Who besides Central, Howard and Polk played in 2007? East Ridge?

  8. I know a lot of this discussion has been about Central partly because a lot of people thought the team this year had the players to win some in the playoffs, but keep in mind Region 3 has had only 1 win in 4 years against Region 4!! That folks is a 1 -15 record and Central has only had 2 of those losses. Yes, I have agreed that discipline has to improve at Central but the other 13 losses were by teams that have been the pinnacle of disciplined teams! 4 losses by Polk, 3 by Meigs, 2 by Notre Dame, etc. Seems that tallent, (very few players playing at the d-1 level) and schedule strength, along with a mental block about beating Reg. 4, to me are the main reasons for not advancing in the playoffs right now.

  9. I can agree with that for the most part and I see your point. The communtiy, administration and school board have to stand behind the coach and your right Coach Davis does have this support for the most part. We both have stomped on several toes in the past including each others. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

    I feel a group hug coming on!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Or at least a Stoney Dog lunch meeting!

  10. I believe Brandon has more discipline than most people on the outside realize, but less than some local "kool-aid" drinkers realize. In other words, the actual truth lies somewhere in-between.

You're preaching to the choir when you say the coach needs to be the boss. No one is more old school than I am. The high school coach I played for (yes, the one who practiced the wet hands/wet ball theory) was a former miltary man who had played football for the Army team in their heyday during the mid-to-late 40's. He took no crap from the players and let us know quickly from day one that playing football on HIS team was a privilege that you earned. He even went as far as making sure that we were clean shaven, and had our hair cut what he deemed properly. Sometimes we only dressed out 35 players, but that was the toughest, meanest 35 kids you'd ever seen. We were extremely well conditioned and several of us played on both sides of the ball. I never left the field for any reason unless I was hurt......and even then only if a broken bone was showing, or something to that effect. We beat many teams that dressed out 60-70 guys, but yet we were still in better shape than they were in the 4th quarter, even though many of us had never left the field. Gamenight was actually a relief for us compared to our grueling paractices.

If you recall, when I first started posting on here, I stepped on many toes of the Central fans because I didn't drink form the same proverbial kool-aid pitcher they did. I called Brandon out on several things, and was berated by many of the Charger fans as a know-it-all, or someone jealous of Brandon. Since I had shared many of my opinions with Brandon, I really shouldn't have been as "honest" with the information I had by posting it on a public forum. BUT, I knew there were a few players on the Charger team prior to the season who wouldn't have ever played for me just due to their general attitude observed by me in the preseason. Perhaps I'm too demanding, old fashioned, and hard core.....but it would have been my way or the highway, Brandon possibly overlooked some minor things from the players because he truly wanted to give these young men a chance. And even with some major issues from certain players, Brandon knew these guys had no one else who cared about them and loved them, and he kept thinking that he could help them by showing he cared about them. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Unfortunately, with our mamby-pamby society, things are a lot different now. Coaches can't make players to be clean shaven, or tell them to have their hair cut to look like a male, and they can't instill the discipline they may desire because of parental complaining and influence by the school administrations. I know this varies from school to school......especially with the social makeup differences of Englewood/Etowah, and Benton. Coach Davis has an ideal situation and probably has the full support of everyone in the community, and the administration when he disciplines his players. Coach Derrick isn't afforded that leniency, but I do think he wants it to be that way. However, the change can't always be made for these young men by the time they get in high school. Respect and discipline has to start at the home when their younger. Again, I believe in general Coach Davis has a better overall raised young man to deal with than "some" that Coach Derrick deals with.....thus making Brandon's position a tedious one to balance in knowing when to totally give up on helping.

My point is that although you or I may see something one way, there are other people working with these young men on a daily basis, and as their coach they have the right to do things their way. Again, bear in mind, that sometimes doing something different than you or I would do does change a young man's life sometimes. Coach Derrick's legacy will be determined by more things than wins and losses.

Well may lightening strike me down!! I think there is some common ground here between me, 6+4 and W C! There is a ton of truth in your post W C. For what it is worth, you are spot on about the situation that Coach D. has had to deal with at Central. I have talked to some of the kids that has left Central for Polk and they say it is way different in school. I really do feel it will continue to get better at Central as I know the kids that are coming back and what some of the leaders have told me how they want to be remembered, and being more disciplined is at the top of their list. Look out 6+4, if we have some tallent AND be disciplined it could be bad news for Polk next year!! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

  11. Discipline Discipline Discipline! Until Coach Derrick instills it on his team they will never make it. IMO this is Central's worst enemy and it shows every game that they face adversity. As tigerpride said in another thread HIS way is not working. Coach Derrick needs to make the rules not let the team vote on anything. Running a team should be a dictatorship from the Coaches down to the players not a democracy where the players get to decide. The only vote the team should have would be captains. Maybe Coach Derrick just can't handle the pressure of making those type of decisions involving discipline. BTW WreckingCrew, I was another one that said this region was weak. Dang it I have agreed with a few of your posts in the last two days whats going on! I must be sick! Nah I just think your coming around to my way of thinking. /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

I have no problem with your message but I really hate how you continue to take your shots a coach Derrick. He did tighten up on discipline this year as he is still learning himself about being a head coach. Granted it still needs to be better and I promise you it will be better. Some of the problems he has had has been because he really wanted to help some of the kids with behavorial issues. He knew, as did his staff, that these kids had no guidence from home and had a chance to get out of a bad enviornment with a chance at college. I commend him for taking that stance even though it has caused him to take shots from you outsiders. At least those kids had a chance given to them to be successful at life when others wanted them thrown under the bus. Sometimes there are success stories and last year there were some at risk kids that are in school now, but there also are some failures, but they still had a chance. And by the way, for the last time, no team member voted on keeping or dismissing a player this year!!

  12. Good post. Region 3 needs to pick up some Knoxville with some players that are being recruited. It appears Greenbrier has gone up against players that play on tv on Saturdays now, like Austin Rogers (David Lipscomb) and Golden Tate (Notre Dame). Schedule strength is the deal. Train against better teams to survive in the playoffs. Unforunately 3 3A never gets past one and done.

Many people have forgotten Central tried to see better teams this year by playing McMinn in the spring and Alcoa, So Pittsburg, and Coffee Co in the preseason scrimmages. They went 3-1 against these teams. I think over confidence was a problem after that success and being 9 -0 before the Howard game. There were still some ego issues on this team that will graduate this year. I am looking forward to next year already.

  13. We had one kid who lost his cool and a whole team who played their hearts out. Guess who gets all the discussion? Coach D has done a lot for that kid working on controling his emotions and he had done a good job until last night. Look how far Central has come in Coach's 3 years and who returns next year. I promise you now, Central will be back better, and more disciplined next year because the kids returning have a lot of character and are true leaders. We lose some great kids but the foundation is there to continue improving. Way to go this year and thanks Seniors for being a big part of turning this program around. You were 18 and 4 the last two years, be proud of that accomplishment.

  14. Where do you find that info? This would be very tough, but would benifit the program greatly.

The schedules are not set yet. Meeting next week, I think, to nail down who is actually in each region and set that schedule. All I understand that has happened is some coaches have talked to outside schools about possibly scheduling them.

  15. Your right we have a VIP section. It has heat and recliners not to mention the Double shots of Cognac

Hey T-Mac, the red Solo cups DIDN'T come from the concession stand!! Those 10 to 12 guys sitting in front of me sure weren't feeling no pain by the second half!! I thought the kids could trash talk but they don't have nothing on those same 50 to 65 year olds, man they were brutal!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  16. Smokey... WC,

You guys can't be serious. Granted, Central has had 2 very good seasons. But even drunk on your BLUE KOOL-AID, you surely can't truly believe that Central's program "blew right by Polk." The mark of a good program is longevity and 2 years certainly doesn't qualify. Polk ,on the other hand, hasn't lost fewer than 7 games since 2000. I would agree that Central has had a better team over the past 2 years, but to say that their program is better than Polk's is pushing it to say the least. I doubt Central will match Polk's feat of 8 straight playoff appearences (and counting) anytime soon.

Come on, get over yourselves too! Polk's playoff record is 7 - 16 and Central's is 9 -17 with one team in the finals! Polk hasn't won a region title in 20 years for sure and as far as I know, never since division play started. Talk about the Kool Aid drinkers! Step up to reality folks! We are not the enemy except for ONE week a year, I sincerely hope Polk wins this week as I do the Chargers.

  17. How much is Howard going to charge for tickets? It was 8 dollars for regular season and 3 dollars to park. I believe the other schools will charge 7 dollars for playoff tickets.

Depends on who you pull for!! Visitors were $8, Howard fans got a free pass..... along with the liquor bottles!! It got pretty rowdy by the second half last week in the stands!! /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

  18. You are right, Sequoyah was in complete controll of this game. Way to finish out the year Chiefs. Gonna miss this group of Seniors, its been a joy watching you guys. Through all that you have had to deal with, you guys have done a great job. I also agree that #23 had his best game of the year. The Defense played awesome, Meigs coundn't move the ball at all against the 1st unit. The offense was equally impressive. Breeden had his best game, I also thought that Moser had his best game, White had a great game also. Oline had a real good night. I also think that the Chiefs have found themselves a Reciever for the next couple of years, #2 (Bell) had a real good game. That was a heck of a catch he made on the sidelines. He has looked real good the last 2 games. Thank you Seniors & good luck in all that you guys go on to do. To the rest of the team, work hard and get better, get back in the weightroom don't let that slide. Next season will be here before you know it. GO CHIEFS!!!

Congrats to the Chiefs, great finish to a troubling start on the season. To the players, keep working hard and believing and the playoffs are very realistic next year. See you guys next fall!

  19. it's a long story, but I'll try and make it short. What came down thru the grape vine was that he and another player got mad. Because they were not put back into the game, I believe it was the Tellico game in the 4th quarter with a 42 to 0 lead. They took there pads and helmets off and left them on the field with about 3 to 4 minutes left in the game and went to the locker room. Coach called the seniors in sunday and they voted them off the team. That as much as I know and as short as I can put it.

I wanted to let this die but I can't left misinformation go. They did walk off the field against Notre Dame, BUT did not take anything off until the locker room. The players didn't vote them off either, it was a coaches decision and the Captains were called in inform them of the decision. End of story.
