  1. They have big guys on the team but the"philosophy" of the Head Coach and his porous 4-3 D is speed vs. size. Got several 270, 280 and two 300 pound guys who never get to play D. DL coach has little or no knowledge of who to play where.

Just because they're big doesn't mean they're good. They have 1 guy who's 300 pounds and the closest is 270. Then they have a couple guys who hit around 240 so I don't know what team you're looking at. As for the DL coach not having any knowledge, I believe he had a handful of guys from Hunters Lane the past several years get scholarships for football and I'm sure they were great athletes, but there had to be some good coaching involved with that. Even if there wasn't he obviously knew how to plug him into their system.

The Burros will be fine and if they beat Centennial 2 Fridays from this Friday, they'll have another playoff berth and I wouldn't be surprised if they shocked some people in November through December. The talent and coaching is there, everyone just needs to get on the same page.

  2. It sounds like Blade and The new coach has different teaching styles

I kind of disagree. The papers have made it seem like Blade focused more on emotion and really didn't game plan and Moreno is the opposite of that. I agree with the fact that they are completely different on the emotion part, but Blade was a great strategist and had his guys prepared week in and week out.

I'm looking forward to Moreno getting Spring Ball started. It should be Friday, right? Hopefully he'll get the players pads and jerseys early this week and have them out on the field running drills and learning the playbook. Oh, and you can't forget getting a staff in place.

How likely is it that they scrimmage another team? I know they were suppose to scrimmage Wilson Central, but then Blade left so....?

  3. I think the easiest offense to defend is probably the I-Form. Most of the time it's gunna be given to the backfield and if it's not, it has a chance to go to the tight end.

Really though, all schemes just depend on your personnel. Like BurroBall kind of said, when the Burros had all their players ready to go, they were extremely balanced and hard to contain/stop. But if we had wideouts who ran 5.2's and lineman who couldn't get out of their stance, the spread wouldn't have worked at all.

  4. Why? The spread is the easiest offense to defend. Why not run something different that teams do not see each week and make them spend time preparing for it. Don't say because the team already runs the spread, because when Blade came they made the change to spread from the wing with little or no problem. Being that Moreno is a good defensive coach I would think he would run what causes him the most problems.

Blade ran the spread because that was the type of offense and plays he hated and gave him trouble as a defensive guy, so I think that spread's probably not the easiest offense to defend.

Moreno is going to have the Burros ready with whatever offense he plans to implement, but I heard he likes what Blade did with the O and plans to keep it that way for the most part.

  5. The same thing happened when Aydelott left. There was no weight lifting, no conditioning, no spring practice, and no spring game. Yet, the team went to the state championship. Not saying the new coach will pull off what Blade did, but it is possible for the team to recoup.

Exactly, I don't see the Burros having to big of a tree to climb if they work hard to make up for last time when they get this new coach (and he also knows what he's doing).

It took forever to get practice going with Blade because he was out of state and not from here and had to get situated. Most likely this head coach is going to be from here and could of been hired a while ago. It's probably just Metro once again dropping the ball and putting things off until they have to be dealt with.

  6. maybe i don't know much football but if a coach is able to install their entire offense, that means the players are picking it up pretty easy - that's a good thing - right?

That's true. It just depends on how complex certain aspects are and the time restraint. If the new coach was hired tomorrow and came in, the kids would be fine, but if the Burros' don't have a spring ball and no play book and get into the summer then it's going to be rough on them. I've heard Blade say his first year at Hillsboro coming in the summer, he didn't teach all of the plays he wanted and stuck to the more simple things, so they could know what they were doing and be able to concentrate on less plays (he probably runs one of the more complex/varied/detailed offenses in Tennessee though).

I just have a feeling this new coach won't be in till May and if that's the case, Hillsboro needs their guys who are actually going to contribute next year to work their butt's off not only in the weight room and on the field, but in the film room and on the board.

  7. I just think HHS needs to hire the very best possible candidate whether that be Coach Komisar or someone from another state. Whatever they do, I hope they don't settle for convenience!

It doesn't even look like they're going by convenience, because Coach K would easily be the most convenient canidate for the job. Whoever gets it I hope they don't come in and try to install every single play in their playbook with their new system, but instead just get the basic idea down, and some simple "bread and butter" plays and the Burros should be fine.

No easy Metro schedule this year, it's gunna be the best of the best week in, week out.

  8. Coach Fite and K are running the conditioning program, and the kids are still working hard. I have no idea about the coaching situation. I remember last year that Glencliff was kind of in the same position and they announced their head coach during spring break, so I suspect it to happen during that time period.

  9. Well, alrighty then. I am disappointed in not playing Hillwood or Overton. I wonder why Whites Creek would get the nod over either of those. I don't think many casual high school football fans will be interested in that one, but I could be wrong. I'm sure Cane Ridge is on there due to being the new high school in MNPS.

Whites Creek football is on the rise.

  10. Victor Clemons DE on 2003 State Championship team and Matt Arent QB for 2006 State Runner-Up team are the two MLK kids that started for HHS in the past that I know of. Not sure if there have been any from NSA though.

The kid who returned a fumble 50 yards for 6 a couple years ago against Straford started on the d-line and was a NSA kid. #50, I think and there were a couple of other lineman who at one point started on that line from MLK. And someone told me during the summer there was another lineman from NSA starting. 55, maybe? I guess he couldn't keep his job.

  11. Athletics are only offered through co-op programs with other schools. Football is not offered by MLK or Hume-Fogg. MLK has a co-op football arrangement with Pearl-Cohn and Hume-Fogg with someone else (I apologize I can't recall).

I believe Hume-Fogg plays with Hillwood and NSA plays with Hillsboro. I think there have been a couple of players from both NSA and MLK to start for Hillsboro.

  12. They will lose 3 of 4 DBs, 3 of 4 WRs, 2 of 3 LBs, 2 of 4 DLs, 4 of 5 OLs, both starting and back up RBs, both punter and kicker. Oh, by the way, all these kids should be able to play college ball at some level if they have that desire. After all those losses, they will be down a little, but will rebuild and be back to challenge for another championship.

They're actually returning 3 of 5 Offensive Lineman, but they are losing a lot of talent which just means other players are going to step up as they did before this season.

  13. speaking of qbs named young, has anyone heard any updates on greg young's status? i never really heard anything other than he was injured, showed up to the HC game a little late, and was puzzled by his absence. keith perry admirably led the team to victory, and im sure he'll be ready to go if GY cannot.

From what I heard is that he tore up his throwing hand with some torn ligaments or something like that and is going to be out for a while. So I think Perry will be the starting QB Saturday.

  14. Was at the game......Burros I am stunned, just ashamed by how classless you guys were!(Most of yall not all) I expect that from Melrose, but in the end, I think Melrose had CLASSY-ER fans. Constant taunting and even from the press box. My Lord, if Mr. Farmer had done or said anything close to that we would kindly ask for his resignation. Don't think I am just another por sport of some kind, because the loss still comes down on the whole team. Capitalizing on turnovers was our biggest weakness + lack of different plays. Plays were very predictable. In the end, our boys still triumphed in my opinion: We kept our respect intact and we left everything on the field. Pretty good for a bunch of boys from good Ole Henry County. Classiest Fans, Classiest Coaching Staff, and Classiest Team in the whole state. Thank you BIG RED for all that you do.

Wow.... I believe that there were classy HC fans present last night at the game, but most of the fans from HC that I heard were talking smack and very disrespectful. Heck, I heard some players after the game say that some of your own players were talking stuff BEFORE the game. Good game, Hillsboro, the better team pulled the win out.

  15. I know Henry County is a great team with great coaching and great athletes, but I just have this gut feeling that Hillsboro's going to have a big statement game tomorrow and come out with the win.

That's just my opinion and I'm not really basing that on much of anything. Good luck to both teams tomorrow night! Hope to see everybody out in Green Hills.
