  1. Oh Mr. Brock, I must have hit a sore spot! And this is the only name under which I have ever or will ever post young man. Comparing me to Cap1 is quite a compliment for I read on this board long before I ever posted and Cap1 seems to have a knowledge of basketball and the Big 9 that is very reasonable in my book. So thank you for the comparison. I take that as a compliment. Big9Bball stated it very well. I am entitled to my opinion and I stated it as such. Young Mr. Cross IS going to be a factor and will continue to be one for the next 4 years. It is unfortunate that you do not see that. When one underestimates one's opponent is when one gets his lunchmoney taken. Harrison was NOT one of the better players to come through this area. I would mention Baron Minor from Central or Steve Crowder. Now those boys were real players from your own school. Tommy Dalley was a standout at DB a few years ago. There have been many others whose abilities far surpassed your "best player" nominee. Omar was another outstanding player even though many were jealous of his abilities. He is a very nice kid who's now at Georgetown. Saw him on tv the other night. Your evaluation of Central at the end of your post was more mature and seems like you had settled down and made some good comments. Kaiko is good but I think DeVault and Albright are 2 kids who will be contributing a lot there as well. Your evaluation of my knowledge of basketball and the statements I made are amusing to me. Youth is such a trying time!

  2. Whats the deal Skunk. Are the Indians really that good this year or are the Cougars just that bad? Four points in the entire second half has to be some kind of record??¦for both teams.

    I guess we wont have to listen to all that Central crap on the boards this year??¦will we Hightop and Brock20, (aka - bballfan14). /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I think the Cougars are just THAT BAD. Not much talent or depth there this year. I think it was you Cap who said they're on the downhill slide after 04. I concur. Nothing coming from the middle schools either and the coaching at one of them is a joke. Fox is outstanding and an excellent basketball teacher. The other guy..............well...........no comment. I imagine Central will be much quieter this year. Give their fans time to "reflect". LOL

  3. Im sure the coaches in the "big"9 are outstanding men and excellent roll models. Im not so sure we have any coaches that I would call "good" when it comes to winning games during crunch time. Sure they can win games over other weak coaches and teams, but when they go up against the better programs they fold like a cheap tent. To say that Charlie Morgan is phenomenal is just plain "off the charts" crazy. I can't figure what you base that on. Are you Charlie's wife or maybe first cousin?

You have got to be kidding me! Wife or cousin? Get real. I'm not even a DB fan but if a man does a good job as does Morgan, he needs to get credit due. I'll let some of the DB faithful speak about his record. I hardly think that Coach Vaughn from Central folded like a cheap tent in some of his latest appearances. Pshhhhhhhhhht.

  4. Coach Witcher and Coach Whittmore are outstanding men and excellent role models as well as good Coaches. Coach Vaughn at Central is top notch but has less and less talent each year with which to work. Charlie Morgan at DB is phenomenal. I don't know that I would say the Coaching Staff is weak in the Big 9.

  5. The close games is where a good home court advantage should come into effect.Hear, Hear! and the court seems like an NBA court: it feels GIGANTIC

I concur Snowman. This gym looks like it flew in here from Atlanta and plopped down in the middle of Kingsport. Outstanding facility, vocal but respectful fans, tasty concessions. This arena has it all. AND Sylvester to boot!

  6. The question was what teams have the best home court advantage, not which teams have the "classiest" fans. If you are going on how much of an impact the fans play in the game then two of the top places that are tough to play are Science Hill and Sullivan Central, no place else really compares (last time Sullivan Central played at SH they actually did the "white out"). If you are talking about the gyms themselves making a difference then it is Sullivan East and TN High. East because there is so much room behind the baskets it makes it tough for visiting opponents to judge their shots and TN High because it is such a big place that it is hard to fill it up and it makes for almost a "scrimmage" type atmosphere if you are not used to it.

You mentioned Gate City and it is a tough place to play, but it is not in East TN. As for Boone, they don't have much of a fan section. Central has more students running around in the halls than Boone has in their entire student section.

Perhaps you overlooked the first 2 sentences in my post where I stated that either DB or Science Hill have the BEST student sections. I think that addressed your QUESTION as you stated it. I still say the impact of fans is minimal in most arenas in this area. Now if you do consider Cosby, the fans there DO impact the game due to the size of the facility. I think you are off the mark on the Boone student section. In my attendance of their games, the student section is full and very vocal. As teams win more games the student sections seem to increase which is a normal curve I would think. Coach Witcher at TN high definitely has his student section behind him. Those are the best in my book. Classy is just icing on the cake.

Anybody got any finals on this tourney? I am proud of Boone and East. I think both teams are underrated and get little respect. I sure got jumped on another thread for even mentioning East. But you mark my words boys, these 2 teams are going to COMMAND respect by the end of the season! Write it down that BlackJack told you today.

  8. Well who has the best home court advantage in east TN?

Interesting post. In my opinion either DB or Science Hill has the best student sections. Students are actually cheering along with whatever action is taking place on the court at the time. Not promoting one player over the entire team or acting like a bunch of rednecks. Both schools are class acts. Another close one would be TN High. Students get involved but don't insult the visiting team or parents. Other good choices are Daniel Boone and Gate City.

  9. [East will lose all their games in the Arby's Classic, is that a FORCE to be reckoned with?

Well, sir, perhaps you didn't understand my last post. I think they will be force to be reckoned with in the Big 9. Playing in the Arby's will give them the experience of playing against very, very outstanding teams. I think Coach Burns brings in top notch teams from outside which is a real treat. I'm just positive about the Pats this year. Obviously you disagree.

  10. My bad...I admit that I don??™t know much about Boone. Moncier...hummmmm...I don??™t believe I heard his name called out at the All Big 9 banquet last year but maybe I'm mistaken.

I was only able to get two county boys to participate in AAU (Austin Click and Mickey "uptown" Brown) and they both came under heavy pressure from the Central coaching staff not to participate, so they left the team (after 8th grade). Austin took in a couple of tournaments year before last but left to take part in Centrals summer program /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> , and Mickey came to tryouts that same year but never showed up after the tryouts. Last summer was the last year for (what you refer to as) the "Clown show"...time to start over with a new crop. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> But just in case you forgot, all of these players (15 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 1 senior) were all part of that AAU team at one time or the other.

    Corey Young (THS)

    Taylor Harmon (THS)

    Mason Canty (THS)

    Denzel Gilmore (THS)

    Trey Webb (THS)

    Matt McClellan (THS)

    Marvin Peirson (THS)

    Josh Odem (Science Hill)

    Spencer Bradley (Science Hill)

    Ashlon Adams (Science Hill)

    Larry Smith (Science Hill)

    Detrick Hancock (Science Hill)

    Mickey Brown (Sullivan Central)

    Austin Click (Daniel Boon)

Malcolm and Myron Pinkston (Powell Valley)

    Julian Smith (Elizabethton)

    Kendall Walsh (Elizabethton)

Now look at your program at these teams??™ starters??¦.NOT A BAD TESTIMONY FOR THE AAU EXPERIENCE is it!!!! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Can't believe someone called this list of young men "clowns." Canty is top notch! So is Young. Hmmmmmmm. Interesting.

  11. His name is Dylan Compton. He is only a soph. so he will be around for a few years.

That's a real plus for Boone. I watched this boy play in summer leagues and he is awesome! I think we'll be hearing that name called out a lot in the future. Boone is always a competitor. Thanks for the info.

  12. What games are you referring to? And please don’t say the jamboree or I will have to point you to post #135 again…Vikingfan33…I mean Brock20!! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Cap1, you seem to be very knowledgeable and a pretty mature poster. I'm new. Just wondering if you know who that point guard is at Boone might have played JV last year? He's not tall but can man-handle that ball. He's a player but I can't remember his name. If he's on Varisty, he's going to be tough to handle. Personally, I think East is the sleeper this year.

  13. Im not sure about all of East TN but i know the Big 9.

    1. Issac Snapp Sullivan East

    2. Odem from Science Hill

    3. Keith Cradic Volunteer

    4. Koree Deeb Sullivan East

    5. Rock from Central

Snapp is the best and can't be beat.

    McConnel at DB

    Halverson at DB

    Lambert at Maryville

    Odem at Science Hill

I think the Freshman at East , Jordan Cross, WILL compete this year. Lot of talent there and he'll catch on fast. Sharp kid and willing to work hard. Don't count him out.
