  1. I been hearing rumors last few weeks, something must be going on. I think last years 6 wins and only 2 wins this year and not being competive is getting to everyone. After losing only 2 starters from last years team and only 1 or 2 from this years team their program is going to be weak for some time. Everyone is ready for a change.
  2. Buc, I got a phone call from a volunteer players parent last night saying its official that after this february anderson's is not caoching any more, this is third parent I have heard this from. Heard anything on your end.
  3. I agree with all your assements except DB / Volunteer. DB is a different team this time around, their defense is a lot better. Volunteer will collapse under pressure defense and their post is in for a lesson. This game will not be close.
  4. If we are talking about the same one player, you are right she was freshmenr/jv last year, but i have no doubt she would have beeen playing varsity at volunteer this year. She is a good little guard, I watched her play with my niece in rec, 2 years at middle school and last year on freshman/ jv. Any idea why she transferred? I heard it was not because of basketball.
  5. DB won FCB tourney in chattanooga. Upset 2 good teams. DB playing better defense and got some help from outside scoring. Tonight's game should be great, see you there!
  6. I did a little research and there was one varsity level girl that left and is playing at another school. But by being a transfer student and living outside of new school district according to TSSAA rules she has to sit out a year of varsity. I also found out there are two girls at another school that transferred between 8th and 9th grade that are now sophmores and play varsity at new school but still reside in Church Hill county. So my concern is not losing them from current team but why are we losing players the first year they are supposed to attend Volunteer? I saw the Leepers play at Church Hill Middle and they would have helped, but I also know three good middle school players, two from Church Hill and one from Surgoinsville whose parents say they are transferring next year. So there seems to be a deeper problem somewhere.
  7. I wouldn't count DB out yet, they just pulled off a couple of upsets in winning chattanooga tournament. They are playing better defense and a couple of girls on bench have stepped up and added some outside scoring which has been missing. Their confidence should be a lot better going into second half, I think there will be some suprises.
  8. I have a niece playing at volunteer and she and a couple of team mates are tired of losing all the time. I sit in the bleachers and hear parents, relatives and supporters complaining about losing. When I see girls in their third year of playing and their basic skills have not improved any I guess that's about as relaxed as you can get. I know there is a lot of pressure at high school level but again this is not rec league and it is not fair to the ones who put in the extra effort to improve their game to settle for less from their team mates. So if relax and have fun is volunteers attitude our best years are yet to come. I know when I played winning was more fun than losing!
  9. Two wins, best year ever? This says alot about team's or coach's expectations!
  10. buc, you seem to know a lot about what goes on in upper east tn girls bball. Heard anything about this being anderson's last year at volunteer? I've heard everything from he's giving it up to watch his daughter play next year to a lot of parents and kids are fed up with losing good players and not being competitive to he has had a lot of disciplenary problems he would not address. I also heard a former coach may come back or frye from gate city is being talked to. any thoughts anyone?
  11. Frolich got a lot of exposure last year because of her height and being a freshman, I think the osborne girl will be a more dominate player for db by mid season and next couple of years. She's just about as tall, stronger and more physically aggressive. Frolich is good, but she will have a tough time matching up physically with better posts. I still don't understand with as many girls db has why they don't have any good ball handlers or if they have them why they don't play.
  12. The only way our peremeter play will improve is either hit more threes or have someone tha can take advantage of quick openings down the lane for a shot or pass to post if that opens up. I am afraid we don't have anyone tht can consistently do that. Anyone can stand back and pass ball around perimeter and most teams will stand back and watch. If you don't have a guard or wing that can take advantage of lane openings to take a little pressure of posts high/low won't work. So far I have not seen anyone we have that can or will.
  13. I guess you saw "the bigs" trying to get the ball down the court during TN High game. The little head girl was schooled again both on offense and defense and committed lots of turnovers, 29 turnovers for team. We had very few inside points and a couple of threes. If it wasn't for france hitting 3 - 4 threes per game we wouldn't score 30 points a game. We don't have anyone who can or will step up as a team leader and make a few things happen on court. You also realize TN High played a lot without their staring guards and played lots of substitutes. I tired of us not being competitive with the talent we have. The high/low post is not going to beat anyone with a decent post and a defense that puts a little pressure on our guards and wings. So is it players or coaching?
  14. The reason we're impatient is because if the inside game is not working we have no game. Who is a threat to consistently score from outside or drive lane to pull defense off inside girls? I've seen all DB games this year including Chop House, if its not done inside its over. France has enough girls to go with a little speed and ball control and taking it to hole if necessary. Playing all game with a plan that is not working will kill us against any good team. Patience is good, but while your patiently waiting on plan to work game clock is ticking. If you saw jeff county game who do we have that can control the game like their little guard (no. 10) and their wing (no 12)? The 46 - 43 score was not indicative of the game, that was from finally playing a little defense and closing a 9 - 10 point defecit in last couple of minutes. I hope we win all our conference games but waiting on 2 - 3 posts to get down floor will not beat the good teams.
  15. Cook wouldn't be related to anderson at volunteer would she? he created a similiar mess there last year with several players not returning and probaly will have worst record in school history this year.
  16. I heard she was in hospital a few hours for observation and released. Don't know if will be back to playing soon or not, anyone else know anything?
  17. DB has two good sophmore guards coming up christian and huddle both are good ball handlers and strong defensively. They could make a strong combination next couple of years. DB also has a wing that transfered from NY or PA I think, she can play good aggressive ball. I am afraid as long as France has a little height to put on floor this season is a preview of next 2 to 3 and DB can not compete wil 2 -3 posts on floor.
  18. They only play the Head girl as guard, she is quick but , no defense, no offensive threat and can not physically match up with good aggressive guards in big nine. The little Jeff County guard ate her up. They also have no forwards that are an offensive threat unless they hit a few threes. DB has nobody that will drive the lane hard. Eveything designed to pass inside to post or around perimieter for a three. If you face up DBs two wings, deny them the ball and let Head handle the ball DB can't' compete. DB has a lot of height but no good ball handlers like TN High and South can step up and control the game. Give me one one two good ball handlers on the court that can make things happen anyday over two posts you have to wait on to get down the court. I am afraid this season is a preview of the next three and I don't think it will be good.
  19. I just got back from DB / Jefferson County games. DB is going to have a rough time winning big nine. JV girls were terrible one mistake after another, looked like they did not want to play. Varsity got beat by two jefferson county players, a great little point guard and a good solid wing, they looked like they were playing in their back yard with no one around. DB put no pressure on ball except last part of game of game. DB does not have a guard or wing that is an offensive threat by penetrating lane. At one time after Head fouled out they had two posts trying to get the ball down court. The little Head girl has a quick first step and can hit layups if she beats someone down court, but i never saw her drive the lane and she got ate up by jeff countie's guard. For DB everything is designed to pass inside to post or a three point attempt every now and then. Any team with a little speed and a couple of good ball handlers that can penetrate will give DB trouble. I am afraid TN High, South and Science Hill games will be ugly. On the bright side Frolich and Osborne had a great game.

  21. I was being sarcastic. I have been to all volunteer games and have been following a few posts with comments made by volunteer fans about how much better off they are without some of their players not returning from last year, how much chemistry they have and how close they played TN High and DB. I think now someone called the several players they lost defections and that losing them hurt, this a lot different than "we are better off without them" as quoted earlier. Someone posted how good are they are going to be when the gilliam girl returns, she can not compete with with any big nine post. Someone posted about a weak feeder system, it is weak but I personally know several parents with kids on the two middle school teams feeding volunteer that have already stated their kids will not be going to volunteer. The girls on the team deserve all the credit in the world for the effort they put out and I do wish we had a strong program, but truth is something must be going on when players defect and parents are reluctant to send their kids there. So what ever is in the water must be in the fountains at volunteer.
  22. How can you say SHHS just wins tonight? Crockett played Volunteer close and should be able to play with SHHS. Volunteer has lots of chemistry and is playing hard this year.
  23. Who are the defections that hurt them and where are they playing? Everyone keeps talking about how much better they are without them. The only injury they have is the gilliam girl and i don't think they will improve with her return, season will be over before she will be in shape to contribute.
  24. Anyone see Volunteer / DB game? Lots of talk about Volunteer playing great and being a spoiler this year. How did either team look?
