  1. I think Volunteer's Meyers would be a good choice for DB. Been to regionals, gone from bottom of Big 9 to middle of Big 7, lots of girls with college scholarships. Very impressive!
  2. Been out of the loop this summer, haven't heard anything about how teams did in camps, anybody?
  3. 4 losses in a row and probably 5 after friday. not trying to be negative. watch the team not just one or two players. that goes for all teams.
  4. I don't think it is as much as Volunteer's rise to significance as it is to the Big Eights demise. I am afraid after Lindholm and Anderson graduate this year it is over for Falcons for a while. Any team after Toppers can beat any other team on a given night. Even North at home just about beat DB, is North rising to significance? There are a lot of good players (boys and girls) wathching from bleachers that do not want to play for bad coaches.
  5. Hate to hear that, best to the Snyder girls, they will be greatly missed, may have to move Boone up a notch or two if both play. Definite blow to VHS, losing 2 quality players. Hard to imagine Rachael not playing, unless they just transferred and she is not eligible.
  6. After toppers rest really doesn't matter. Overall the Big 8 is weaker this year than last, should make it interesting for 2 - 8 since they are all about equal.
  7. Rumors are Myers at Volunteer is interested. Took Volunteer from bottom to AAA regionals in 3 short years and think he still lives in Greenville.
  8. I agree with most of your picks, except Myers. 5th or 6th on a coin toss in a weak conference from 3 down and only really winning 2 conference games against mediocre teams (Central and South). The others wins against Crockett and Boone were gimmmes. If Volunteer would have finished a solid 4Th I would have agreed.I would give coach of year to SH coach or maybe Crockett coach for keeping a team on floor during a tough season.
  9. Anderson? Where's Myers???? Was Anderson made assistant last year for a reason?
  10. Comp, I totally agree, if anyone can name 2 high school coaches in each division A, AA and AAA in upper NE TN that teach fundementals, the game and always put the best on the floor please list them. I sure a lot of good players would like to play for them. It is sad the state that so called ADs and coaches have let their programs sink to. The girls that work to get their skills to the next level are often resented by other teammates, parents and sometimes coaches because it makes them all work harder. I think it was posted somewhere earlier girls high school bball is becoming more irrevelvant to get to the next level with other options available to the ones willing to work.
  11. Everyone needs to quit ragging on Volunteer, they're like any other team, they play like they're coached.
  12. Over the top parents and kids usually quit or transfer and the disruption is gone without much consequence. Bad coaches can affect a kid for life.
  13. Define next level - College in general, DI, DII, DIII, NAIA?
  14. Commitments mean nothing, wait till roster comes out!
  15. I know several girls that are excellent ball players that quit playing. They were not burnt out on basketball. They were burnt out on bad coaches, drama and politics.
  16. Saw a post from momofafalcon on how good Volunteer will be by time season starts. Anyone know how Boone, Crockett and Volunteer did in camps?
  17. Thanks, sounds like same old thing. TN High, Science Hill, DB battling for top 3 spots, South and Central competing for middle and the rest is practice fodder trying not to be last.
  18. Still out of town, how about an update on camps for all the teams, anyone? Back in town, scanned board, not much info on camps except for Vikings and Toppers. How did everyone else do?
  19. Still out of town, how about an update on camps for all the teams, anyone?
  20. On the road again for next few weeks, some one going to post summer camp results?
  21. easttnboy During Myers’ first season he played 3 freshmen so everyone thought change was on the way. Last season he played 2 freshmen just to have nine on varsity. Not for sure but I don’t think anyone on previous years’ freshmen / JV moved up. I heard lot of girls have quit last 2 years, maybe this is why Anderson is back as assistant. Looks to me like one of 2 things, either the above is true or they’ve found one great middle school coach last couple of years that is doing better than their freshmen/jv coach.
  22. Hmmm, sounds like someone from Volunteer didn't quiet measure up.
  23. Hope this helps, we dealt with a lousy coach by using this. Do you have a lousy coach? March 25, 2010 by iathletes Let’s face it, there has been more than 1 player emailing me for advice on how to handle their lousy coach. I have seen the world of Jr High and HS school basketball and know 2 things about coaches: 1.) some are fantastic, energized, great teachers and positive role models 2.) Some are just lousy and do not embrace their leadership role and have other agenda’s. I understand coaches get complaints all the time from players/parents about playing time, I am not talking about lack of playing time, I am talking about the lack of structure, advice and genuine care for each player. If you’re that player stuck with a coach who is not willing to challenge you in a positive way, not willing to go the extra mile for you or your teammates, one that doesn’t even seem to care then here are my thoughts on what you can still think and do: 1.) Stay positive; believe strongly in your abilities no matter what. 2.) Your passion for the game is a reality, don’t ever lose that. 3.) Your goals are still achievable, even with a lousy coach. 4.) Resiliency in the face of a skeptical leader is a powerful ability. 5.) If you care enough about your personal work every day and always do the right thing then you can leave the gym with your head up high. 6.) Never talk back; even though you know they are not doing the right things, they are still your coach. 7.) Never stop working hard, there are many avenues for you to seek out to reach your goals Her high school coach said she was no good and refused to play her (fours years of his crap). She is being recruited by several colleges, received offers and will be playing at college level. It is due to her dedication, AAU Exposure Tournaments and skill camps. By the way she is an honors graduate, very active in church / community volunteer work and knows what her vocation will be. HIgh School basketball is 90% politics, 5% hype and 5% skill, it is irrelavant!
  24. Here’s an idea, let girls from NE TN and SW VA opt out of school ball to play for area AAU team. Each AAU team would be based on age/grade in school. This would take at most a couple of girls from any one school and probably none from a lot. Then let AAU teams play one game against 10 – 12 area teams in NE TN and 10 - 12 SW VA teams during regular season. This way AAU girls get about same number of games in as regular season schedule and would not effect school schedules. This would show mommy and daddy what basketball is and how good their little girls and coaches really are!
