I watched the longhorns play Cherokee tonight and although the horns took a close one winning 7 - 6 I left the game feeling good about Hampton’s chances next week against Johnson County. The longhorns are strong and physical upfront like always but the offense looked really one dimensional. The qb likes to keep it a lot and they had no success through the air I don’t recall Johnson Co completing a pass and if Cherokee doesn’t make a costly turnover inside their own five yard line who knows if the horns even get on the board. I like the dawgs in this one.

What a season it has been for the Lady Bulldogs. Conference co champions, district champs, regional champions, sub state champs, final four at state. Plus the Lady Dawgs beat a very talented Lady Highlander team three times. Simply a phenomenal season for this team, coach Tolley and his staff. I know those girls and those coaches were disappointed yesterday at the Murphy Center but I hope they woke up this morning with a lot of pride and holding their heads up high. These ladies should have a feeling of accomplishment. Girls basketball at Hampton is traditionally a pretty successful program and this group took it to a level that no other team has before and that??™s really something to be proud of. Coach Tolley and his staff have done a great job all year. Our girls got better all year long and they play very hard and to me that??™s a credit to the coach as well as our players. The underclassmen and girls in the 8th grade have a chance to make a pretty special run in the next few years. Don??™t be surprised if another trip to the Boro??™ is in store for this program in the near future

That really is a shame cloudland is getting in trouble for this. I don??™t think it??™s fair at all to ask a school to play a sub state game at another school. You play the regional tournament to try to get home court advantage to get to the big dance. Though the Landers would just have to take a small trip down the road to Hampton to play a sub state game it??™s still not the same as playing on your home floor in an atmosphere like that. I just don??™t understand what they want teams to do. I just don??™t think teams should be punished for having smaller facilities than other schools. I guess they expect them to pull the money out of the sky to build a bigger gym.

Congratulations to the dawgs on winning the district but its time to come back down and focus on the regional. I think this tournament was a huge confidence booster for us and we looked like we were really fired up for this stretch run. Logan Andrews is playing great basketball right now and if that continues we are going to be very very difficult to beat. A potential rematch with UH looms in the second round of the regional and a match up with either Cloudland or Unaka in the championship game and you never can tell what??™s going to happen when rivals are playing for the third or fourth time. Grace is a very good team but from what I hear they are not the juggernaut that I thought they were. Hampton is so tough to beat at home so I think if they take care of business in the regional we should be Murfreesboro bound!!!!!!

I have also heard through the vine that he quit so he could focus on baseball. He was injured most of last year, but he was a stud picher in 8th grade.

I don??™t see a player quitting on his team right at tournament time, when they need him the most, to focus on another sport. It had to be something else.

Great performance from the dawgs tonight. Logan Andrews played really well tonight and if he continues to provide that inside presence we are going to be very difficult to beat. I think we showed that we are a much better team than the crew from the creek. We played a horrible first half and Unaka got every single call they could have possibly gotten. Those horrible calls stopped our momentum and if those things didn??™t occur I think we would have run the Rangers right out of the gym. I think the coaches and players deserve a lot of credit for their performance tonight. This was a big confidence booster heading into the district championship game and the regional tournament.

I think your way off base with the Tim Andrews thing. I just don??™t understand why you would bash someone so badly and you??™re not even sure if you??™re actually talking to that person or not. That is uncalled for.

More importantly, I strongly agree with lord Vader. This has gotten way out of hand and needs to stop now. If you know of a better kid in that school than Dylan Hill go find him or her and bring them to me because I want to meet them. Sure, I??™m very disappointed that has not playing for Hampton anymore but I just think we need to let it go. Like I said before I think is an outstanding young man and he doesn??™t deserve this. The Hills are a great family and they have always been extremely nice to me and I know this situation hurts them more than a lot of people know. I really feel like they just want what they feel is best for Dylan and you can??™t blame them for that. The sister??™s situation has nothing to do with what happened and shouldn??™t have even been brought up. I think we need to just wish Dylan good luck in whatever he does, move on and leave this alone.

It should be a good night at Vanhuss White gymnasium. Its senior night and I look for the dawgs to come out and play well. Hopefully, we will gain some momentum heading into the district and regional tournaments. no one i trying to tear the hampton team apart. what happend friday night was simply one family of many family's sick hampton B.S., and oh yeah these coaches are legends. .. LOL!!!!!!!!

 

Last year before this season started, I over heard Mike M. asst. coach of hampton: Brag about how when the king coach called about J. Bentley he told him to go somewhere else and the Bentley was lazy and the exact word's were barely a basketball player. Yeah thats a great coach. LOL.

 

And no, I'm not out of my mind. People all year have said during the game and after, in the stands and in other places, whay can't they get Hill the ball. Instead of even trying or even looking they take it in and make one of the toughest shot there are to make with three people on them. All this while Hillhad been wide open, That is the truth. every thing I said in this post is the truth. And anybody who knows anything at all about the situation orhave bee to any of the games this year knows it is th TRUTH.

Please don??™t attend another Hampton Sporting event because you can??™t support what written across the front of the jersey and that??™s HAMPTON. You can??™t be for certain players and be against our coaches you have to be for the whole team and staff and you obviously don??™t understand that. You just get on here and try to tear certain players down and it??™s getting ridiculous. Be a real fan and support this team when they need it the most and that??™s down the stretch when they are trying to get to the state tournament. The Hill situation is over. Vader is right on the money. People from the Creek are reading this and laughing and are chomping at the bit to take advantage of the situation in the tournament. Don't get these boys unfocused!! I want to see the Rangers crying at the end of the tournament, not hoisting a trophy. Get it together!! The time has come to confront the challenge that faces us in this tournament!!

I couldn??™t agree with you more. Cloudland is doing the things that they need to do to get ready for the tourney and we need to do the same. It doesn??™t matter who is or is not out there we are still the conference champions, and we can still reach all of our goals, including reaching the state tournament. We really need to pull together and support these boys that have worked really hard for the success they have achieved this year and block out these people who are just on here trying to tear them apart. Come on boys it??™s time to step up make a statement and show people what Hampton Basketball is all about.

The biggest mistakes that have been made are the ones the coaches have made in the way they curse the players. These coaches should set good examples for these young men. The kids do deserve better.

We are not a youth club team here and if a kid can??™t handle language that??™s way more censored than what he uses himself he needs to change his diaper and head to the house. These kids have good coaches and they are having a great season. If this is all you have to complain about don??™t make everyone sit here and read this crap that isn??™t relevant. Instead, just pop in a Disney DVD (one with no cursing of course) and let us talk about big boy things that actually matter on here.

Going into the game last night at Cloudland I remembere telling a friend that I was afraid we might go to Cloudland and get shot out of a zone and that??™s exactly what happened early. The Landers came out on fire and forced us to go to a man to man. This hurt us in a number of ways because we are not used to running a man to man and it took our key post players out the game because Cloudland went to a five guard set. You cannot leave a post player out there to play man to man defense on a guard that??™s a defensive mismatch. Our coaches had to do go to the man to man, if not Cloudland would have kept shooting the lights out and we would have down by 30 so the coaches did what they had to do to put our team in position to win the game. As for what happened after the game, it??™s very unfortunate. Dylan Hill is one of the best kids you could ever meet. He??™s always really respectful and I??™ve never heard him say anything out of the way to anyone, seems like the kind of kid you want your daughter to date. His decision to leave the dawgs squad really hurts us but we have to move on and stay behind these boys and our coaching staff. Coach White has done so much for this program. He has taken Hampton Basketball to levels that most schools could only hope to reach. Coach White has made Hampton basketball something special. It really means something to put on that jersey with Hampton written across the chest and represent this school, community, and this tradition. I think our players understand that and are going to finish this season out on a strong note. Hill??™s absence is a huge opportunity for Logan Andrews and Billy Berry to step up and leave their mark on this season. As fans we need to pull together and get behind this team instead of trying to tear them apart.

I think the dawgs would definitely be able to compete with db and science hill when this years sophomores are seniors. I know for a fact that a lot of this group plays AAU ball against some really good out of state competition and has won a several tournaments. I would be willing to put any sophomore that science hill has up against hughes or ward any day of the week. We also have developing players in Hill and jones. The dawgs need to be in the Arby??™s in the 2010 ??“ 2011 season.

To be honest, it's the language that the coaches are using. Personally, I don't think it's right. It's not just basketball at Hampton that has this problem, it's all three boys' teams. If it's wrong it's wrong, winning or losing. My point is, I don't know if I ,as a parent, can let my son play for people or coaches like this.

I??™m not sure what??™s so bad about being called an ???all American??? that??™s not bad language at all. What people don??™t see is how the players back talk the coaches and think they know more about the game than the coaches do. Again, this is not youth club basketball and if a kid can??™t take a little chewing when they are on a high school varsity basketball or football team they don??™t need to be out there. Lord Vader makes a great point. I have spent some time in a high school class room setting observing teachers for an education class and the language that most kids use is a lot worse than anything the Hampton coaches have said to them I guarantee it.

The only thing wrong with Hampton basketball right now is our fans. People get on here and complain rather we win by fifty or lose by fifty and that??™s ridiculous. This isn??™t youth club basketball and our coaches are going to say some things to motivate a player from time to time and they should. People need to grow up and find something else to complain about. Even if you have a problem with our coaches personally that??™s no reason to bash them when they are winning games. We are having a great season and our coaches deserve a great deal of credit.

Heck, we may even discuss the Lady dogs over there.(the reason for their coaching turn over......they'll be some good ones there.....maybe even some things that were kept quite) As for the boy's board, let's inform some people and DIG into them Hampton athletics, shall we. You never know who might be reading!(parents/players/grandparents or someone trying to decide where to send their kid to school) Oh, or not to send their kid. Let's open it up, and we'll start with you answering my questions, "That was the only reason he was let go?" "What happened at the Hampton/Happy Valley football game?"(shove/push your self on this one)(could go to the FB board for this one, if you want to) " How's things going with your feeder schools?" I think you are leaving a FEW out(details AND Hampton coaches that is) but I won't "PUSH" that, for now. This is going to be a really entertaining game. It??™s a really good rivalry. I know most of us Hampton fans are always rooting for the Landers when we are not playing them and I think that goes both ways. Both schools and coaching staffs respect each other a lot. The Dawgs have a big advantage in size, hopefully we will be able to use that to our advantage and take this one out of what could turn into three or four meetings between these two teams this year. I agree with lord Vader, this would be a huge win for us. Going to Roan Mountain is going to be a tough task so we need this key home win early to get rolling in the conference.

Wasn't looking for a scholarship, had to go to work and earn a living. But I assure you that if I had the opportunity for a scholarship, I wouldn't have squandered it and QUIT! As far as sitting on the bench , been there and done that. I know when it's time to give it up and watch. And really "mom" your little boy is the one that got on here first and was bashing the team. Go back and read about it. And yes I will be talking to Jerry about a lot of things not only basketball and I am pleased to inform you that isn't any of your business either! I really don??™t think bigdawg3 squandered anything. He simply didn??™t like the situation he was in and decided to come home. What is the problem with that? I??™m pretty sure every coach started out where bigdawg3 is. I don??™t think there has ever been a coach that jumped right in and knew everything there was to know about basketball and teaching the game. It??™s a good experience for him to sit on the bench and learn how to handle players from Coach White. He is a very young coach and you seem to know a great deal about the game so why don??™t you help a young coach out and give him some suggestions in person. I??™m 100 % sure that it bigdawgs3??™s mother does not post on this web site. I know for a fact that his mother and father tried to talk him into staying at Bluefield but he made that decision on his own. Coach White has over 30 years experience and has been very successful so I really don??™t think he needs any suggestions on how to handle this team from anyone.

What kind of "legal" trouble was he in? How long was this going on? Is he the only one that has been fired from Hampton? Is there anyone in trouble at this time at Hampton or it's feeder schools? (I bet your post players are feeling left out, your welcome)

Haha I didn??™t expect you to actually talk about the thumpings the rangers are taking. I think everyone on this website seen the papers and seen the incident on the news so I really don??™t think there??™s a need to speculate on that. As far as the other trouble you??™re talking about at a feeder school, that incident is being working out and it was a result of a coach breaking up a fight between two players when an opposing coach and an official set back and did nothing. What did you want him to do? Sit back and just let the kids brawl? That??™s ridiculous and any coach with a back bone would have done the same. I guess misery loves company. The Rangers boys and girls teams are on the down slope right now so I guess the only thing you have to do is get on here and try to create problems at a rival school.
