  1. It was so great to see you, M! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> We need to get a reunion together!

It was GREAT getting to visit before the game!! You ain't changed a bit!! You know, we should!! Just a bunch of us long time friends!! Maybe in the spring... Stevarino's has good food and adult beverages, and you can't miss it in SP. I am in & out all the time in SP, and babysitters abound for me in Marion Co....

  2. Well, I made it to the game, and WHAT A GAME!! I am so glad I went!! Outstanding!! Congratulations to a GREAT team of young men. I didn't see any showboating or bragging or any poor sportsmanship on either side (except the penalty on MHS coach). GREAT game! Wonderful athletes- I wish them all the best for their college careers!

I have seen several other HS football teams in my time, and I must say I am so proud to be a SPHS alum!

To Pirate Tom- Saw you at the gaem but didn't get to come chat with you (sorry)... You're looking well! And I have read most of your posts, and you STILL are SUCH a class act! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  3. You are right to a point. It is the coaches job to get the kids in the program, but it is just different around here now. Kids would rather be out running the roads or making money than dedicating themselves to the football program and I guess some stability in coaching would help that. Another problem that I see is the offense that is now run is the spread, and in my opinion, there aren't enough athletes to run it. I am not saying to go back to the veer, but that was the beauty of that offense is that you didn't have to have great athletes. How do you think that we were able to compete with the Knoxville powers? We did have some great athletes, but not compared to them.

As for South Pitt, a lot of reason for their sucess is that they have a ton of athletes, and why is that??????????

It is just a shame that the good kids with work ethic are choosing to "run the roads or make money" rather than football. I do think coaching stability and a winning team would help that. I hope MCHS gets a coach everyone can support, and that that program gets back to its winning ways!

  4. I just gotta say, I grew up in MC, and now live in Blount Co., and I could not be prouder of both schools' traditions! Hope to get back down to the Sequatchie Valley some day, but Blount Co. is a great place to be, too! GO ALCOA, MARYVILLE, AND SOUTH PITTSBURG tomorrow in the playoffs!!

  5. I'm really sorry to disappoint some of you but KC hasnt even applied for the job! I asked him myself! It's all smoke and mirrors for the Assistant Principle to take the job people! Trying to find a coach for MC is like Alabama trying to replace Bear Bryant. We MC fans have got to be honest with ourselves, it is in no way going to be like it used to be in the 80s or 90s. Look around the neighber hoods, tell me where the kids are playing football in the backyards? How many basketball goals are there in driveways? Xbox, Playstations have taken the place of these. Sometimes the truth hurts.....

I am not trying to be argumentative, but if this is true, how do you explain the success of the SP program, just 15 minutes down the road?

I am by no means an expert, but shouldn't a larger school statistically have a higher number of talented individuals? I guess the trick is getting those kids with natural ability to go out for football, which is part of the coach's job. And these kids need a good coach in order to build good skills. Then success breeds more success. Every kid wants to play for a winning team, right?

  6. Yes, Ron Summey. He did coach at South Pittsburg around that time.

Cool- I didn't have him for a teacher or coach, but he did coach my brother, and he taught my husband.

Do the Sequoyah parents like him? Is he likely to hop on the coaching carousel? How is his record? How long has he been there?

    Thanks!

  7. Is this "Summey" ya'll refer to Coach Ron Summey?? I didn't see a first name in any post... The reason I ask is because Ron SUmmey coached at my alma mater, South Pittsburg, in the late 70s-early 80s. Just for the sake of curiosity, I would like to know if he ended up at Sequoyah. THanks!

  8. Yes you are able to be faster on truf. In some cases it will help to perpare for the game, maintenance is the big thing.......

I think I heard on Knoxville radio that artificial turf fields are not "crowned" for drainage like real turfgrass fields are. This would make a difference, especially when passing. So a little familiarity with a different type of surface would probably benefit any team planning to play a game on it.

  9.

Yes I was on that team. Who is this?? I have alot of memories from that game I would love to share.

PirateTom, I'm trying to figure out who you are. I was a cheerleader for SPHS during that 86 championship game. I was a freshman. What year were you?

PirateTom - Look at your friends list on Myspace, and find your friend named M who graduated with you. Love you 2-ball!! Please do share your memories with me either here or on myspace, or my email below...

Little23, do you have a myspace acct? My email is malhoward at aol dot com. I would also like to hear your memories of that game in the 'Boro, Little. Email me your address and I wil tell you about Pirate Tom, in case he treasures his anonymity on here.

Hope to see you both Friday!!

  10. Still bitter are we??? While we did give up some yardage and points, we still stuck it to you...and we will do the same again this week. Mckenzie will be a great test. Go Pirates, bring home the GOLD.

Hey there Pirate Tom- how are you?

I think you were on the 86 team that went to state championships, right? Tell me what you remember about that game? Did you get to play? IF this is not the place, maybe you can shoot me a message on myspace? I don't remember much about it, and you and I were on different buses... /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

    Hope I get to see you in the 'Boro!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  11. Great hearing from you, too, mhoward! Hope to see you in the Boro! I've already lined up a sub, the hubby is taking off half a day, & we're signing the kids out of school early! Man, it's like being back in high school again! (I've gotten out the old cheerleader jacket & dusted it off! I'll be wearing it with great pride!) I love it! As I said before, we don't get this much excitement in Livingston. I'm looking forward to getting back to how football ought to be. GO PIRATES!!!!!!!!!!!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I hope I can work it out & see you there... How is that sister of yours?? ANd your mama?? My old email address works, if you still have it...

As for the game, I have a pretty good feeling about it. WHen I have seen the Pirates, they looked really good. I say they get it done by 14. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  12. I had the pleasure of watching South Pittsburgh in 1999 during the State Title game. Those fans are very loud. The whole town of South Pittsburgh will be there.

You are probably right about that! SP is a Football-crazy town (in a GOOD way)!

RLH and Little23- it was good to catch up with you both on the boards last night. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> It was hard to post because of flood control (whatever that is)! I MIGHT make it to the 'Boro Friday... I'll let you know!

Good luck to both teams in Murfreesboro! Let's have a great, clean, hard hitting game with no injuries!
